Zenith Defy El Primero 21 Blue
The Zenith El Primero Chronograph is a classic model that helped define the standard by which all other automatic chronographs have been judged for decades. The recent Defy El Primero 21 Blue builds upon that history with a brand new modern movement, inspired by the legendary El Primero, consisting of double escapements that elevate it to a new level.

The first escapement is dedicated to regular timekeeping and maintains the watch’s 36,000 vph operating frequency, while the second escapement is dedicated solely to the chronograph function and runs at an astonishing 360,000 vph, rendering the watch capable of recording times to the nearest hundredth of a second. These dual escapements, combined with a skeletonized dial and a blue rubber strap with a titanium double folding buckle, give the Defy El Primero 21 Blue all the makings of a solid 21st-century timepiece while demonstrating Zenith’s technological edge and design for the most discerning watch lovers.

Mid-Century Modern Furniture
Save 15%: Design Within Reach is essentially a museum for the furniture that all other furniture rips off. This is to say the products it purveys are items you’re likely familiar with in shape (like the Tolix chair’s ubiquity in faux-industrial restaurants), but less so in regards to origin. What this means is the furniture and lighting options are original and premium and demand prices as such.

It also means they don’t go on sale all that often, hence the urgency of DWR’s Semiannual Sale, which offers a large swath of DWR’s stock for 15 percent off retail (Note: the sale page on the site is only a selection of what’s actually on sale, you’ll have to browse through the categories you’re interested in to spot more items).

Houseplants
Save Up to 30%: Costa Farms is the largest seller of houseplants in the US by a country mile. Today, almost 20 of its simplest, best-selling houseplants are on sale up to 30 percent off on Amazon of all places.

The lot includes all the hardy, beginner houseplants for those new to the game that is keeping another thing alive. Jade plants ($15), which are virtually immortal, do just fine in indirect light and with very little water (if the leaves start to turn red, move it further from direct light). Snake plants ($17), also unwilling to die despite your best efforts, require watering only when the soil is bone dry and don’t care much for sunlight (but generally aren’t hindered by it). Air plants ($15) don’t even need soil to live (just soak in water once a week).

On top of showing your friends and family you have your life somewhat together, plants in the home act as air recycling and purification centers (according to an old NASA report on the matter, Snake plants are pretty great in this regard).

The Amazon sale lasts until tomorrow afternoon. — Will Price

Insulated Jackets Sale
Save 50%: The beauty of an insulated down jacket is that it’s incredibly warm, yet stuffs up into a pocket and weighs practically nothing. This past week, our Outdoors and Fitness team hiked near Lake Placid in the Adirondacks in New York, and we were reminded of just how cozy a down jacket is. One of our team members wore his down jacket all week long, while I found it extremely beneficial to hike with since the weather was misty and dreary. If I got too hot, off came the puffer and into my hiking pack it went. While it certainly doesn’t feel like fall or winter in the city, the temperatures are changing rapidly. Stocking up on a down jacket — especially one on sale — is a good idea this Columbus Day.— Meg Lappe
