Among smartwatches, only a few brands are willing to take on the great outdoors. The Apple Watch Series 4 and Samsung Galaxy Watch rank might be more popular, but both are lacking durability. On the other hand, companies like Garmin, Casio, and Suunto offer durable wearables that are ready for adventure. For now, let’s focus on the new Suunto 5, GPS-ready smartwatch that will accompany you everywhere.
With a case measuring 46 mm, the Suunto 5 is noticeably smaller than the Suunto 9, which sports a 50 mm case. Buyers can choose from four colors: White, All Black, Graphite Copper, and Burgundy Copper. Personally, we found the Burgundy Copper colorway to be more attractive than the others.
The polished stainless steel bezel and the silicone rubber strap look stylish enough to match most of your wardrobe. The case is made of glass fiber-reinforced polycarbonate, while the display cover is mineral crystal. It’s safe to say that these combinations of materials should make for one sturdy smartwatch that weighs around 66 grams.
The Suunto 5 is being marketed as a GPS sports watch, so it should flexible enough to handle various activities. Moreover, the integrated optical heart rate sensor gives users an insight regarding their overall fitness. The smartwatch is water-resistant up to 50 meters allowing it to even track your swim. At the same time, the built-in GPS can track your location and guide you to where you need to go. Depending on the interval setting, this device can last anywhere from 20 to 40 hours. On the other hand, regular usage with mobile notifications will give you up to 7-day usage time
