The 2018 Volkswagen Arteon is not a car left wanting for style or design. When it debuted at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show, it stood out amongst the backdrop of the worlds most outrageous supercars — even in base trim. Volkswagen just announced it will debut the R-Line package next week at the New York International Auto Show, but when the Arteon goes on sale later this year, you should save your money and skip the R-Line option box.
Similar to Audi’s S-line, the only thing your money goes towards is visual upgrades, like a more sculpted front bumper, a sliver of a lip spoiler on the rear deck lid, gloss black wheels and ‘R-Line’ badging all over. Inside, the option package adds contrast stitching, paddle shifters and few other metallic accent pieces. No matter the trim level, all Arteon trim-levels get the same 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged engine and eight-speed automatic transmission with no extra power or performance. There’s no official word on pricing yet, but based on the Passat R-Line, the option package will probably run between $2,000-$3,000 extra — money better spent on options that actually change your driving experience for the better.
