I look forward each season to Todd Snyder’s Timex collaborations perhaps more so that most other watch releases — fun, affordable, and vintage-inspired, they’re a great way for someone new to the watch game to break into the scene, or for a dedicated collector to branch out into something less serious than the nuances of matte-dial Rolex.
Snyder’s newest watch doesn’t disappoint: Dubbed the Art Deco Milano XL (admittedly somewhat of a mouthful for something that doesn’t exactly scream “Art Deco” or “Milan,” though more on the Italian connection in a moment…), it’s got clear 1970s cues, from its 38mm tonneau-shaped steel case to its bold dial combining what appears to be an olive drab color (it’s tough to see clearly from the images) with red, green and sand-colored indices, as well as a white minute/second track. I, for one, am very psyched that they stuck with a vintage-inspired 38mm diameter, and with a case height of only 11mm, this thing should wear like a charm.

It seems clear that Snyder had the quarantined-based wearer in mind when designing the watch: the press release for the Art Deco Milano XL describes it as “the perfect accessory for The New Casual, aka the way men are dressing now.”
Said Snyder himself: “I saw the inspiration for this when I was meeting with Timex’s Milan-based design director Giorgio Galli. And we were working on ideas for a watch with retro elements that would resonate with the vintage details in our fall collection including retro sweater polos, bold patterned cardigans, and boucle wool topcoats.”
Rounding out the watch’s feature set is a quartz movement with date window, mineral crystal, lumed hands and indices, 50m of water resistance (do you really need more in quarantine? If so, we’re impressed) and a cool Red Wing leather strap with quick-release feature. All this comes in at just $128, making this another win for the Todd Snyder/Timex team and a cool watch to add to the collection — or better yet, to give as a gift.
