Top 20 Cycling Socks For Men

W

hether you’re a dude who dons your neon Lycra to commute to work or whether you prefer to hit the trails on two wheels at the weekend, it doesn’t matter. If you’re a smart guy upon your cycling steed, you’ll know the importance of finding the right pair of cycling socks for men.

You already know that getting the right cycling gear is pretty important. Almost certainly, you paid attention to getting the safest helmet, the most stylish jersey, and the most comfortable seat. You could be forgiven for overlooking what you wear on your feet, however.

Socks aren’t usually a high priority for cyclists, whether you’re a dedicated pro or just want to get more exercise without having to go for a jog.

While it might sound like an overstatement, many guys have suffered the irritation of sweating feet while riding. When you go through it, you’ll know just how essential it is to find the best cycling socks on the market. Cycling socks for men come in a host of colors, styles, and designs.

However, when you’re shopping around for a pair of socks that are comfortable, cool, and stylish, you’re going to need some expert advice.

If you ever thought that shopping for cycling socks was going to be a breeze, you’d be surprised. There’s so much choice out there today, that it can be easy to make a mistake. Those neon green funky cycling socks may make you stand out from the crowd. However, they could also make your feet smell like old cheese once you reach your destination.

We’re here to help you avoid making an embarrassing error. That’s why we’ve done all the hard work so you don’t have to – finding the top 20 best cycling socks for men.

What to think about when buying cycling socks online?

If you’re one of those guys who doesn’t want to pay too much time and effort to shopping for the essential gear, you probably won’t be reading this! However, if you’re in doubt about how to make the right choice, be reassured that buying the right cycling socks for men isn’t just about going online and choosing the first thing you see.

There’s a whole lot of things to consider. We know it might sound like overkill to have a checklist of points to keep in mind before you buy something that is essentially underwear. However, painful feet are no fun for anyone and if you’re entering a race you could find that the wrong socks seriously cramp your style. Let’s see what you need to think about:

Fit:

Your cycling socks need to have a smooth and snug fit without being too loose or too tight. This will stop any bunching up or rubbing around your toes and heels. Buying the right size for your foot is not just common sense, it’s essential. Loose material is just going to make your feet uncomfortable and cause pressure points.

At times, looseness can cause more sweat to build up as well. Even creating a pocket to catch all that come down your legs during a ride. Not good.

Length:

While we’re talking about fit, we need to consider length. Different cyclists have different preferences, so you need to choose the right length for you. Ankle socks are a popular choice with many casual cyclists, as most just like to ride for fun. However, for racing enthusiasts, long cycling compression socks are often seen as a better option.

Whether you prefer tall cycling socks or short ones is a matter of personal comfort. To us, it won’t really matter which you choose. Yet it may have more to do with what you’re wishing to do on your bike than anything.

Season:

It stands to reason that the socks you wear on a summer bike ride probably aren’t going to cut it in the winter. The same for winter gear in the summer. As a guy riding into the wind on a race or normal ride, you’re going to need cool cycling socks for men that allow air to circulate around your feet during the hot months.

Otherwise, your feet aren’t just going to smell terrible but they’re going to be at risk of blistering from rubbing.

On the other hand, winter cycling socks for men need to be thicker to insulate your feet from the chill. Waterproof cycling socks could also be a consideration during the winter months, especially if you’re into mountain biking. We cannot stress enough how important it is to keep seasons in mind.

This means putting the right clothing on for the right season. Don’t be that guy who wears next to nothing in a windy and below freezing climate.

Color:

It’s technically a minor consideration, but it might be the most important one to you if fashion is your main goal. In the old days, you had just one basic decision to make – would it be black cycling socks or white cycling socks? These days, you’ve got a world of options to pick from.

Do you want to make a statement in a pair of orange cycling socks? No problem! Do you want a funky pattern? Go for it!

You’ll easily be able to accommodate your requirements and express your unique and eclectic style. If you’re ready to take it up a gear and express your feminine side in pink cycling socks, go right ahead!

Fibers:

You can find cycling socks in a range of fibers. Cotton is the most common and most popular because it absorbs moisture well. However, it isn’t always the best choice for cycling. This is because it can expand as you sweat, leading to rubbing and blistering. You should consider a polyester or nylon sock instead.

These are woven closely allowing for a more snug fit, more effective moisture-removing, and reduce road dirt and grime working into the fibers.

Antimicrobial Fibers:

Some specialized cycling socks for men have integrated antimicrobial fibers. This will balance your bacteria levels to reduce the chance of irritation and, vitally, cut down on unwanted odors. Though not the biggest consideration to think about, it’s certainly useful to you to look into it.

If a sock already interests you and it has this, try it out and see how you like the fibers. If you do end up seeing a good result, perhaps all future athletic socks would need to include this for you.

Do I really need specialist cycling socks? Can’t I cycle in regular socks?

Although some cyclists don’t see why they should invest in specialized cycling socks, there are lots of good reasons to consider buying a pair. Regular socks might be okay for the occasional ride into the countryside. However, if you’re serious about your sport, or just want to look the part, cycling socks are essential.

If you wear socks designed for other sports you’ll find many have cushioning built in. This could affect how well your cycling shoes fit. Some general sports socks are also made of heavier fibers which not only cause your feet to sweat but also cause your shoes to feel too tight.

Another reason why specialized cycling socks are so important is to enhance your cycling performance. This may not be important to you if you’re only commuting to work or enjoying a family bike ride on the weekends. However, it could be a serious consideration if you’re a racing enthusiast.

Cycling compression socks are designed to help boost blood circulation to your muscles and help your calves to function more effectively as they work hard.

Specialist cycling socks are also designed to be extra comfortable by giving your foot better contact with the shoe and pedal below it. Thanks to their thinner weight, they enable you to “feel” your way on the road more effectively and save you energy by ensuring the most efficient pedal stroke.

As you can see, your cheap Walmart socks that you bought for work probably aren’t going to do the job. Not if you want to get the most out of cycling at least. We recommend that you definitely try a pair of good quality cycling socks to see the difference if you aren’t sure they’ll benefit you. We’re pretty sure that you’ll definitely feel the benefits.

What are the main brands of cycling socks?

A quick browse of the internet will reveal a surprisingly large number of cycling socks for men, and their several brands. However, as you might imagine, not all are equally good quality. With cycling socks, as with most things, you tend to get what you pay for.

If you’re paying just a few cents per pair you can’t really expect them to be up to the demanding task in hand.

If you choose one of the well-known brands, you’ll get a great pair of socks that should up performance on top of being comfortable. There are a number of leading brands in the cycling wear industry that are known for their high-quality materials and excellent manufacturing.

Looking for breathability, comfort, and long-lasting style? You might want to consider Defeet cycling socks, which are not only famous for their great quality but also their fantastic range of cool and funky designs.

Swiftwick cycling socks are also popular with professional cyclists thanks to their excellent quality and high performance. Top 10 Motorcycle Gloves For Men

T

here aren’t many better feelings than cruising down the side of a mountain on a Harley-Davidson as you take in some picturesque views or flying down a moonlit highway on an impressive Ducati. Whether you’re a Route 66 adventure seeker, a grey nomad, or just getting to the office and back in style. It simply does not matter, for every good male biker needs a solid pair of motorcycle gloves for men.

They can rely on them to keep safe and look as cool as their bike.

The only problem is there are many different types of motorcycle gloves to choose from. We want you to enjoy more time on your motorcycle and less time at the shops. This is why we’ve gone out of our way to find the best motorcycle gloves for men on the market today.

Our Men’s Gear motorheads and motorcycle enthusiasts got together and sourced the best gloves. We then locked ourselves in our tool shed and only came out after deciding which gloves make the cut and which need to stay on the shelves. They made their choices by ensuring there’s a pair for every biker among our readership.

Why should I buy specialist Motorcycle Gloves For Men?

The benefits of wearing motorcycling gloves for men are plentiful. Even if you’re a tough biker with bulging muscles and an arm full of tattoos, you’re going to want some degree of protection in case of falls and crashes. Accidents can happen all the time, even if you’re careful.

A surface in poor condition or a gust of wind can send you tumbling. If you do fall, most gloves are designed with materials to prevent severe injuries and scrapes. This is probably the biggest benefit in wearing them.

They also protect your whole body. Sounds strange? Well, remember as a kid when you fell over a lot. You’ll remember you broke the fall with your hands usually.

Naturally, if you keep your hands protected, you’ll help keep the rest of you protected too.

The best motorcycling gloves for men also prevent numbness. It’s crucial that you can feel the vibrations of the bike when riding because as it aids you in controlling it. Hands get extremely numb when riding your motorcycle for longer periods, these gloves significantly reduce this. That means added control for safety.

The best designs ensure better grip when you need it most. This is especially important when riding through heavy rain when handles become slippery. The methods of improving grip can differ and there are some really innovative ones out there today.

However, a lot of time they center around adding friction to the palm of the glove or at the fingertips.

We’re putting down our clipboard and taking our health and safety lanyard off for just a moment here. Another major benefit is that many of these gloves are made with leather. This is great for insulating your hands. Let’s be honest, they look really freaking cool as well!

Are motorcycle gloves touchscreen compatible?

If you’re enjoying a weekend ride through breathtaking scenery or tackling the confusing lanes downtown, you can easily get lost. You’ll pull over in a safe place, wrestle with your gloves to get them off, then pull out a GPS. You may even hit up Google Maps to get you back on track. Or maybe, you hear an important call or text and need to answer or reply to it quickly.

Either way, the rigmarole of this little side road dance is a bit inconvenient. Thankfully, motorcycle glove designers have come up with a solution to make us get a smile. We might even see those gold teeth of the most intimidating looking biker. Okay, not all of the best motorcycling gloves for men on the market will do this.

Many of these motorcycle gloves for men have touchscreen compatibility. This means you don’t have to take off your gloves to start operating devices, like your smartphone or GPS. Manufacturers usually make this possible at the tip of the index finger.

While you won’t be able to type and hit buttons with your thumbs in the usual manner, you’ll still be able to operate your phone without having to take off your gloves.

In fact, they only make it possible at the index finger so you still need both hands to use your device. This is put in play to prevent stupid people from trying to text or call while riding. You, the Men’s Gear readers, are smarter than this, of course. Don’t worry, more than half of our list of quality motorcycling gloves for men have this convenient feature.

What Features should I look for when buying Motorcycling Gloves for men?

One of the first things to consider is your budget. On our list, the price of these gloves can differ considerably. We have included a broad spectrum of motorcycle gloves for men that are cheap. However, some are a little pricier to make sure we cater to every motorcycle enthusiast and their expectations.

Consider the season you’ll be riding in. We added several summer gloves with exceptional breathability and winter gloves too. However, these are very different.

Some of the summer models we added come available in a winter edition. Check out the pros section to see if there’s a winter style on offer.

Some of these motorcycling gloves for men have been designed for off-road dirt biking. Meanwhile, the majority are made for everyday main road use. This is really a choice between materials but an important one nonetheless.

A major benefit in wearing motorcycle gloves for men is the protection provided. Safety features matter for these gloves. In each product description, we’ve gone into every nook and cranny to explain how they keep you safe. Be sure to expect different levels of protection from different brands and designs.

There’s also comfort and convenience to weigh into your decision. Manufacturers make gloves comfortable in several ways. That includes the addition of foam padding and even a pre-set curved finger design to reduce finger fatigue.

If your budget is limited, you may have to sacrifice some of these features for safety – but not always. Another important question to ask yourself is touchscreen compatibility. Lastly, if you’re a guy with bigger or smaller than average hands then you may be limited to what gloves are going to fit you. Though we added gloves with various sizes available.

1) Alpinestars Celer Men’s Leather Street Racing Motorcycle Gloves

This may be the same brand but they’re certainly considerably different. Alpinestars makes tremendous motorcycle gloves for men, and we cannot overlook that. These gloves are made with spandex, artificial leather, air mesh, and even some foam padding to provide exceptional comfort.

They’re abrasion-resistant through the inclusion of an artificial leather design on the palm and the thumb. That foam padding is found on the landing zone and will give you considerable comfort as you take the country bends or zoom down the highway.

These motorcycle gloves for men are a lightweight option perfect for the warmer months. If you’re looking for great men’s motorcycling gloves for the summer, we’d suggest adding a pair of these to your basket.

4) Alpinestars SMX-1 Air Men’s Motorcycle Gloves

Last one we promise. The Alpinestars gloves we’ve shown so far have varied in price. However, these are mostly in the middle of that price bracket. They are made of a combination of materials, including leather and mesh.

The mesh on the back of the hand makes them much more breathable. However, this also means they’re not really suitable for winter riding.

Some of the most notable features here are foam padding and knuckle protection. The embossed Alpinestars branding makes them extra stylish. In fact, they’re so cool you’ll still look good wearing them without a motorcycle. Last but not least, these motorcycle gloves for men also have touchscreen compatibility with the index finger.

Top 20 Tactical Gloves For Men

T

actical gloves are a type of glove designed to keep your hands protected during dangerous combat and other high-risk situations involving hazardous equipment. They’re usually worn by military personnel which warrants their second name as military gloves. However, it’s not just brave soldiers who wear them. Tactical gloves for men are quite common, as well as for women.

Yet people seem to not know the right brands or how to help you find a good pair.

They can also be sported by hunters, policemen, security doormen, climbers, tree surgeons, skydivers, paintballing enthusiasts, or even by men wanting to complete the look during their Nerf gun wars.

An individual requires tactical gloves for men in their line of work they’re not always supplied. This means they have to seek down their own tactical gloves. Being vital pieces of clothing during potentially intense situations, they’ll want to find some tactical gloves you can rely on.

To save you from hours of scrolling the internet looking at hundreds of tactical glove reviews, we’ve done some research on your behalf!

We believe these are the best tactical gloves for men on the market. We looked out for all the fundamental features you can’t go without. Also, we hunted down some tactical gloves that go the extra mile and provide you with features you wouldn’t expect, but can come in…handy!

Before we jump into it, we’ve answered some common tactical glove questions below. We believe these answers will help you narrow down your preferences.

What Do I Consider When Buying Tactical Gloves For Men?

When buying something of potentially such importance, you should look out for some key things. We feel the importance of these few areas can make or break a purchase. Why? The common mistake people make when buying anything is the lack of research put into it. They get an item they hate and thus, hate the entire genre at times.

When it comes to tactical gloves for men, we want you to enjoy their use. With that said, check out these important things to consider before buying.

Use:

The first thing you’ll need to do is consider your use for these now new tactical gloves for men. If you’re buying them to operate weaponry then you’ll want a specific type of tactical gloves. Some tactical gloves have been better designed to operate rifles and handguns than others.

The ones best for this purpose are those with heightened sensitivity at the index finger and exceptional grip on the palms. Look out for these if you’re a hunter or a military man. They’ll likely turn out to be pretty useful.

Type Of Knuckle Protection:

Another important consideration is the type of knuckle protection you want and how this will make your gloves bulkier. If you’re heading into battle or part of the police then you’ll need a pair with significant knuckle protection. Thet may be a priority in that situation.

One question you’ll need to ask yourself is if you’ll you put your hands in your pockets often. Do you need to access other equipment and items regularly? If so, you may want to look for compact knuckle protection that doesn’t overly protrude from the glove.

When you do have prominent knuckle protection on your tactical gloves, it can make dipping your hand in your pocket for equipment a chore.

Touchscreen Compatible & Loop Holder:

On top of this, you’ll need to consider touchscreen compatibility when looking for tactical gloves for men. Accessing electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and GPRS systems may be needed. If so, you’ll require touchscreen compatibility for convenience and to save time.

You may even need a loop holder on your tactical gloves. Some models provide a loop at the wrist where you can attach frequently needed equipment. You can secure small items to these gloves as another way to save time and make your job easier.

What Are The Main Benefits Of Tactical Gloves For Men?

There are lots of reasons why some men should be opting for tactical gloves over general gloves. The benefits of choosing protection-specific designs over your everyday gloves are extensive.

One of the biggest benefits is the protection they offer. These gloves have been designed in a specific way, with key materials that are going to protect you from a number of different hazards. They often include special hardened materials to protect vulnerable areas of your hand.

They will prevent you from damaging your knuckles and finger joints. However, they can also help in a less obvious way.

Some of the gloves have been made to withstand the extensive use of intense equipment and weaponry. Some equipment can cause numbness or significant vibrations that can be painful or have lasting effects on your health. The specific padding and thicknesses in specific areas of tactical gloves go a step further than ordinary gloves.

They help to prevent equipment from leaving lasting damage.

The other main benefit of tactical gloves for men is that they don’t hinder your use of weaponry and specific equipment. Some gloves are reinforced with more protection. Meanwhile, others differ in materials and thicknesses to give you full control and grip of your tools, equipment, and guns.

It’s these two benefits meshed together which make tactical gloves unique. They can look like a mismatch in materials and design. However, they’ve been carefully calculated and thought through.

It’s difficult for other gloves to combine the protective element of tactical gloves with the dexterity they also offer.

Are Tactical Gloves Usually Comfortable? Are They Usually Light?

The situations when you would wear normally use tactical gloves for men can be very unnerving and uncomfortable. That said, it’s important that you feel confident and comfortable with the equipment and clothing you have. The best tactical gloves are extremely comfortable and can be very light.

Naturally, there’s a bit of a trade-off between weight and protection considering the more protective materials usually weight more. This is not always the case but can happen more often than you might think.

The materials used can determine how comfortable your tactical gloves for men will be too. Sometimes the hardened knuckle protection can be an area of particular concern. These protective elements may not be kind to thin-skinned hands. This is especially true when you clench your fist.

To combat this, look out for gloves that have included softer materials around hardened areas.

You will also want to look out for more hugging materials such a spandex and thin leathers. These allow hands to breathe with added comfort despite the layers of protection.

A lot of these tactical gloves have adjustable wrist straps to help you make them fit a little looser or tighter. This is good for picking the right size as it gives you some leeway in some measurements.  Other ways they may be made more comfortable is through anatomically accurate designs.

This revolves around the shape of the glove as it’s curved to match the natural shape of your hand. It reduces rigidness and avoids needing a break-in period that can be uncomfortable.

One of Our Favorite Affordable Cashmere Brands Just Beefed up Its Winter Sweaters

Everlane produces some of the best affordable cashmere sweaters on the market while being radically transparent about the materials and processes. The company will happily tell you that its sweaters are knit in Dongguan, China and will even show you the factory on its website. Everlane is more than willing to share that they use Grade-A cashmere from Inner Mongolia, and that the fibers it uses are the longest (35 millimeters) and finest (15 micron) fibers, so that the sweaters are durable, pill less, and get softer with wear.

The brand has now beefed up its range of sweaters with two winter-weight knits: a ribbed sweater and a heavyweight sweater. The Cashmere Rib Raglan sweater comes in three colors and features a chunkier ribbed knit appropriate for the cooler months. The Heavyweight Cashmere Crew sweater is available in seven colors and is knit with a 7-gauge cashmere yarn, so it’s 86 percent heavier than Everlane’s popular $100 Cashmere Crew sweater.

The sweaters retail for $140 and $145 which, given the quality and weight, is quite the steal. If you’ve been looking for a warmer and softer knit for the winter months, these should be at the top of your list.

All Herschel’s products are aimed at 18-35-year-old men and women. Only recently had they opened their first actual retailing premises in June of this year.

Their design using convenience and style make them very popular. You always see their backpacks on the streets or flashing past your eyes at rush-hour transport hubs and well. There’s a reason for that. They’re what men want. Since their launch in 2009, these backpacks have shot to fame across the world.

Whatever type of guy you are and whatever your backpacking needs, they’ll have made one for you! Don’t believe us? Well, we’ll prove it with our list of the top 9 Herschel Backpacks for men. However, before we unpack all that, let’s tell you a bit more about Herschel and why they’re a strong force in the men’s backpack scene.

What Are The Main Benefits Of Buying Herschel Backpacks For Men?

The backpack market is flooded with brands trying to compete with one another. However, there are only a select few that stand out in terms of both functionality and aesthetics. Herschel backpacks for men is undoubtedly one of those brands. Their backpacks have excelled on the market and won over a large loyal fan base.

Why exactly do they outshine other brands?

There’s a lot of benefits to buying Herschel backpacks for men. First of all, they are a fashion statement. A lot of people are aware of Herschel and by wearing one of these backpacks you’re sending a message to those around you. It’s a message that screams you’re a stylish guy!

Herschel also manufactures many different models with various patterns and color combinations so it isn’t difficult to find one you’ll like. A classic monotone backpack that goes quietly under the radar but gets appreciation by those who see it, or colorful and stand-out design with different tones and accents to turn heads. You can get either with Herschel.

The features included with a Herschel backpack are really impressive. You get a great variety of open capacity bags where you can just throw in your gear without consideration. Then you have backpacks with specifically laid out compartments to help keep your business files, textbooks, and whatever else organized.

This includes protective sleeves for electronic devices such as iPad and laptops, even a media pocket with a headphone port.

Are Herschel Backpacks For Men Comfortable To Wear?

The Herschel backpacks for men make your life a bit easier while also being stylish. They’re known to be incredibly comfortable. A lot of their models are complemented with padded straps to ease the heavy load and pressure on your shoulders and shoulder joints.

However, you won’t get horrible chafing marks and sores with one of these. Many of their models have adjustable straps as well. That means you can lower your Herschel backpack when it’s getting a bit full and you need more body mass to carry the extra weight.

There’s one little problem that wearing a backpack can cause during summer. Have you ever been the guy that rocks up to work, the bar or even a date to whip off your backpack and reveal a sweat patch on your back? You can’t see it yourself, but you know it’s there.

The clammy skin gently sticking to your shirt and the thought that everyone in the room has noticed.

You won’t have to be the subject of other people’s internal monologues, eyebrow raises, and giggles with a Herschel backpack. This is due to many of their models having ventilation to help avoid those awkward sweaty moments. Not to mention, the ventilation also keeps your backpack’s contents smelling as fresh as you.

That’s not all. With weight distribution in mind, Herschel designed their bags dimensions and weight to encourage you to wear them over both shoulders. This is good for your posture and can help avoid back problems and muscular twinges. Need any more reasons why Herschel are one of the comfiest backpack suppliers around? We thought not!

What Warranty Do Herschel Backpacks Come With?

A lifetime warranty comes with all Herschel backpacks for men that sell new, licensed bags by the company. All their bags have it, truthfully. The warranty acts as a cover for everyday and common uses during the whole of the original buyer’s lifetime. This warranty will come into effect from the moment of purchase.

Herschel says they offer this lifetime warranty because they can guarantee that all of their backpacks go through rigorous quality testing and checks. This is done to pick up on manufacturing and material defects, so you never encounter them.

They also say we should check out their official website for more information. After a thorough read through their particulars, all you need to be aware of is that Herschel will decide if any claim should be accepted in accordance with local law.

Obviously, they will want proof of purchase with any claim – so keep your receipts!

There’s also a couple of things their warranty doesn’t cover. They won’t replace your backpack if you misuse it, neglected to care and maintain it, or attempted to modify it in any way. If you want to transform your backpack into a part-time jetpack go ahead, but just be aware you’re voiding your warranty.

They also won’t entertain your claims if you’re claiming for general wear such as fading colors, the wearing of materials, or if you’ve lost your backpack.

It’s all pretty standard really, if it’s faulty upon purchase and delivery you’ll get another one, but just take care of your backpack in general. If you do make your bag into a jetpack, let us know though.

6) Herschel Supply Co. Settlement Backpack

If you can’t decide between the vintage look and modern practicalities, you don’t have to. Herschel’s Settlement Backpack is a great compromise between the two. It has a small zip pocket to keep your keys at easy reach. Meanwhile, the interior has a slip compartment to fit a book, journal, or hiking trail guide.

Our researchers found out that it could hold a small laptop or iPad. However, it hasn’t been specifically made for this with secure padding. That said, it might not be the best for that job. Yet it is great for so much.

All in all, it’s one of the most practical backpacks you’ll find without looking like a spaceship. This is especially true considering the extra cushioning straps will make heavier loads remain a comfortable carry.

Herschel backpacks for men are known worldwide for putting comfort and ease of carrying at the top of their priority list. This means you’ll always have both in play for any backpack and the Settlement bag is just another in that line.

Nike SB Dunk High Pro

Nike has always been a champion when it comes to clean and simple styles. While the designers inside the company are cleverly crafty people and represent some of the most creative minds in the shoe industry, they know when form bleeds over function, and when style borders on cartoonish.

For the Dunk High Pro, Nike SB, the Swoosh brand’s skateboarding division, had to cut everything back and focus on cleaner trims and more understated colorways, which is why you’ll see that the new Nike SB Dunk High Pro looks somewhat plain but nondescript. It’s a disservice to describe it like that, however, since the company has done an excellent deconstruction job here, putting textured and tumbled leather throughout and contrasting it sharply with a brown sole unit, then adding gold stitching around the midsole. In effect, you get an almost rugged-looking pair of kicks, but not bordering on jarring or off-brand.

You’ll also love what Nike did with the tongue, throwing in an exposed foam on the upper that’s reminiscent of the Nike Blazer. Of note is the gold hits on the insoles and outsole, which matches perfectly with the similarly colored midsole. Nike was mum on details like pricing and release date, but it’s fair to expect they’ll arrive sometime this fall or winter. You’ll be able to purchase from select retailers or directly from Nike’s online store. Check out more photos of the kicks below, and make sure to check back with Men’s Gear as we get more details.

MB&F HM9 Flow Watch

As anticipated, Max Büsser has finally unveiled his latest horological machine, the MB&F HM9 Flow, a combination of elements taken directly from the ingenious mindscape of Büsser himself, drawing from vintage cars, aircraft, sci-fi comic books, films, and TV shows.

The $182,000 watch is the latest avant-garde design from the boutique shop. It was made possible thanks to the the brand’s past achievements with the HM4, HM6, and Legacy Machine No. 2, although apparently the HM9 Flow was years in the making.

“Because we spent so many years working on the LM2, which is one of the only movements with two balance wheels and a differential, we were able to take [the double flying balance wheel concept] into account,” according to Büsser.

What is this, exactly? Is it just a watch? Is it a retro-futuristic timepiece? Or is it an embodiment Büsser’s most precious sensibilities as a child, wrapped neatly on your wrist? It probably doesn’t matter in the end, though, because it’s just plain gorgeous and thought-provoking. It’s always nice when something comes out and reinvents everything that has come before it and will ever come afterwards, and this is one of those things.

More importantly, the HM9 Flow is an example of an impossible thing made possible. It features a multipart case that’s so complex thanks to its extreme angles and voluptuous curves that the experts MB&F collaborated with said it could not be made. But “impossible” simply won’t do for Büsser, so new manufacturing techniques were pursued to be able to develop what you see above.

But again, what is it? A fancy shmancy watch with an irregular shape? Or maybe an new kind of experience altogether? Who cares? Sometimes, experience defies description.

The Most Stylish Men We Know Share Their Favorite Boots

Much of the time, a quality pair of boots is both the literal and figurative foundation of any man’s wardrobe. Built to stand up to years of wear, they have the potential to outlast most of the other items in a guy’s closet. Because there are numerous brands making first-rate boots, one must make a conscious long-term decision when investing in a new pair. Over years of wear, these investments become highly personal, forming to the wearer’s feet, displaying well-earned creases and aged hues.

To hear the stories behind some well-loved boots, we reached out to some of the most stylish guys we know and asked them to share their favorite boots. The styles and stories vary as much as personalities we surveyed, but every pick exhibits top-tier features built to stand the test of time.

Todd Snyder, Designer

Vintage Red Wing 877 Irish Setter Boots: “I probably have over 15 pairs of boots, so it’s hard to pick just one. I guess my favorite boots are my Red Wing 877 Irish Setters circa 1970. I found them vintage in a RRL store approximately 15 years ago and they fit me perfectly. I have a size 13 foot and I can never find vintage anything that comes close to fitting me, so I jumped on them. They had the best patina and were in great condition so the $500 price tag seemed like a steal. They are totally worth it.

To me, Red Wing invented the work-boot and are still doing it the way they did back in the day — made in the USA with great quality and comfort. These boots are the reason that I wanted to collaborate with the brand in the first place. I get so many compliments from the Red Wing workers when I visit their factory in Minnesota. I travel there once a year to discuss the future collabs and work with their design team. Everyone there is very proud of what they do. I cherish these boots because they look cool, but they also are legit (looks like I wore the heck out them, but took very good care of them). I should give thanks to the guy who broke them in for all of those years! Thank you, sir.”

Antonio Ciongoli, Designer of 18 East

Clarks x Lemaire Redland Boots: “I’ve been wearing Clarks since I was a kid and I can’t think of boots that are more comfortable. I love these Redlands because while the crepe runner’s toe makes them look like a Wallabee/late-’90s skate shoe mash-up, they’re actually a discontinued silhouette from the ’60s. When Lemaire brought them back last winter, I bought two pairs just to be sure I was covered should the silhouette disappear again. Afterward, I was happy to discover that Padmore and Barnes — the original Clarks manufacturer in Ireland — never stopped making them. I’m glad to know they’ve got me for life.”

Jake Mueser, Owner of J. Mueser Bespoke

J.FitzPatrick Alki Chelsea Boot: “I’ve had these black Chelsea boots for years now. They were the first pair of shoes I got from my friend Justin Fitzpatrick, founder of J.FitzPatrick Footwear. My style has always been a mix of classic and more relaxed. I tend to wear jeans with a nice jacket so a pair of good Chelsea boots is perfect. Alternatively, they also work when I wear with a suit and tie. The construction on these is amazing, they are good year welted and hand finished. I am having a new pair made in espresso suede, probably less versatile but excited to add to the collection!”

Donnell Baldwin, Chief Stylist of Mr. Baldwin Style

RRL Engineer Boots: “I fell in love with these engineer boots while working at Ralph Lauren in the Vintage and Antiques Division years ago. My boss would wear engineer boots with army green cargo pants, a gray vintage tee and an assortment of silver and turquoise jewelry. There was something easy about it all — an effortless cool that was undeniable. I knew then that I had to get a pair of these boots and that they’d give me that effortless, authentic style I always admired. These boots have been with me for seven years now and keep getting better as time goes on.”

Formula One Racing Car Customized By BAPE

It’s not everyday you hear about an unusual collaboration between big companies. Even rarer is when the result of such a pairing is actually worthwhile. Here’s one for the books: Formula One and Japanese streetwear brand A Bathing Ape (BAPE) has now unveiled a special edition F1 car covered in the iconic camo print.

BAPE fans will know this isn’t the first of the brand’s collaborations with cars — it also came out with a camo-coated Mercedes vehicles in years past, giving the designs of the 300 SL, AMG GT S, and Benz G-Class extra sizzle. This time, it’s Formula One’s turn. It also just so happens that the car you see above also marks the 25th anniversary of the clothing powerhouse. BAPE, as you may know already, uses Shark hoodie and camouflage prints heavily. It had previously hinted at the F1 collab, and thus comes the BAPE Formula One race car.

Here’s Tanya Wilkinson, a marketing executive at Formula 1, on the momentous ride:

“Both brands have such a unique heritage and identity and we are excited to be collaborating with BAPE to celebrate their 25th anniversary. We have made a promise to our fans to bring them closer to the sport and this collaboration with BAPE acts as a vehicle to help us do that.”

The camo-decked BAPE Formula One race car is merely the beginning of a promising partnership, it should be noted. BAPE’s collaboration with the international auto racing league might also involve special edition capsules in the future. Nothing is set in stone, of course. However, Billy Choi, BAPE’s managing director, noted that “there are many possibilities to build on the partnership in the future.”

Longines Conquest V.H.P. GMT

Smartwatch adoption is steadily growing as manufacturers introduce new features and improve battery life. The number of functions, designs, and gimmicks are probably the biggest reasons why wearables slowly make their way into hearts. Yet, some of us remain steadfast and opt to go for the tried and true performance of analog watches. We have to realize that there just some conveniences that are included when using a smartwatch. The Longines Conquest V.H.P. GMT is a welcome and stylish compromise.

For example, as long as your device’s location services are active, adjusting the time zone is close to automatic. However, unless your regular wristwatch comes with a built-in time zone adjustment complication, you have to manually tweak it each time you travel. Longines understands that some individuals refuse to migrate over to wearables, so it came up with an innovative function to benefit its globe-trotting clientele. The advanced tech is integrated into the new Conquest V.H.P. GMT.

This elegant quartz movement timepiece keeps a special aperture on its dial that responds to the camera flash on your smartphone. Owners can download a companion app that triggers a sequence of flashes that instruct the wristwatch to make the necessary adjustments to match the location’s time zone. In essence, the Longines Conquest V.H.P. GMT is a contemporary timepiece that secretly uses some cutting-edge tech to make timekeeping during travel a breeze.

Montblanc Summit 2

We are finally about to see another big step for Wear OS-powered smartwatches as Qualcomm launches its Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset. It is meant to finally replace the older 2100 that runs the majority of Google-powered wearables in the market. One luxury marque teases a follow-up model to their first smartwatch. The upcoming Montblanc Summit 2 earns the distinction of being one of the first few products to integrate the chipmaker’s latest platform.

To set it apart from most of the entry-level and mid-tier wearables, the upscale brand uses top-shelf materials such as leather, sapphire lens, and PVD-coated stainless steel. We also spotted the oversized crown found on most analog wristwatches crafted by the Germany-based company. Sadly, it only works as a push button interface minus the scrolling function featured on some smartwatches from other labels. Meanwhile, you can also spot two extra buttons—Montblanc has yet to confirm what each one does.

The sapphire display cover now flaunts a contoured shape compared to the flat glass on its predecessor. With the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 on board, we can look forward to a much-improved performance across the board. We also learned that the new chip’s architecture delivers new power-saving features. The Montblanc Summit 2 might be among the first few Wear OS-running devices to enjoy remarkable battery life.

The Story Behind a New American-Made Boot Brand

The last century has registered the incredible rise and unfortunate decline of the footwear industry in Maine. Though the early decades of the 20th century were booming, many brands moved manufacturing overseas in the ‘80s and ‘90s, shuttering factories across the state. A large, skilled workforce became unemployed as the region’s signature style — hand-sewn moc-toe boots — were offshored. While the industry isn’t what it was 100 years ago, a handful of brands are keeping the domestic tradition of handsewn moccasin footwear alive.

One of the best examples is actually a new brand from the state, Maine Mountain Moccasin, which was founded in 2017. Its owner Dan Heselton had worked at Timberland before teaming up with designer Greg Cordeiro to found New England Outerwear in 2012. The duo enlisted the hand-sewing skills of Bill Herrick — who had perfected his craft for years at Warren Shoe and Quoddy — to create a line of traditional handsewn shoes and boots which quickly gained a well-earned reputation for their quality and style. After Cordeiro left the brand for a design job at Clarks, Heselton decided to further refine his vision and start Maine Moccasin Company.

The brand offers a range of hand-sewn boots and shoes utilizing local materials like Tazman leather and made-in-Maine threads. The company doesn’t cut corners when manufacturing the different styles and the boots feature Blake/McKay welting, true moccasin construction and true double-vamp mudguards. Vibram soles come standard and each style is available in sizes 7 to 13. Also impressive is the price-point, which is noticeably less than some other Made-in-Maine brands. The shoes start at $270 and boots top out at $399. For the attention to detail and level of craftsmanship, that’s quite a reasonable price.

While Maine Mountain Moccasin footwear is a shining example of what Made-in Maine can offer, it’s also a top contender for one of the best American-made boot brands. To learn about Heselton’s background, vision for the company and favorite styles, we caught up with him after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Q: What is your history in the footwear industry?
A: I spent a number of years working at a major footwear brand and during my time there, one of my coworkers was an engineer who held the belief that making shoes or boots had become too segmented. There’s designers, engineers, and supply chain people all working separately. Most people at this company didn’t know the entire process of constructing a shoe. So he started a class that would meet early morning a day or two each week and we would tape shoe lasts, learn construction processes and pattern making. We moved to the sample room and got to use some of the machines, which was an amazing thing to be part of. That was sort of my point of realization that I wanted to do something more, something my own.

Q: Did you always want to own a brand?
A: I’ve always wanted to be part of something DIY, that has a community around it and means something other than just the bottom line. I spent my early 20s touring with my punk/hardcore band, so that experience sort of instilled that in me. I had always dreamed of owning a brand and never really knew how to make it happen until that moment where I felt like it made sense to give it a try.

Q: What was the impetus for starting Maine Mountain Moccasin?
A: It was a very organic thing; once I took that class, I couldn’t stop thinking about doing it. I had become fascinated with hand-sewn moccasins specifically. So my wife bought me an industrial post bed for my birthday and when we met the seller to pick it up, he told me he was a technician in Maine who serviced some of the factories still there. He was shocked that we wanted a machine and were looking to sew moccasins, so he connected me with a couple of guys who were doing a very small scale production. This was under a different brand at the time, and we had our ups and downs trying to beat the insanely difficult task of making shoes in the US. Soon enough, I found myself holding the reins solo, and decided some huge changes were needed and it was time to let some old ways go.

With Maine Mountain Moccasin came a rebirth in our processes and methods for making shoes. Old styles were dropped because the pattern work on them didn’t meet our standards, so we focused on four to five patterns and perfected them. Our lasts are uniform and we’ve added several components to our shoes to increase their durability. I believe we are making one of the best made-in-the-USA shoes on the market right now.

Q: What is unique about how your boots are made? Can you talk about the process and materials?
A: We order a maximum of our materials from the last remaining tannery in Maine, which specialize in military compliant leathers but can tan really any leather. I feel like it’s vital to support them and they are down the road from where we make our shoes and boots. The workers are all interconnected and both businesses help feed the communities they’re in. We also still use a good amount of Horween‘s leather products as well, so between the excellent products of both Tazman and Horween we’ve found a balance that’s really working well.

For our shoes, we’ve chosen to mix in some more modern technology into our moccasins, like tucks and shanks. I used to be of the opinion that doing so took away from making them true handsewns, but I’ve realized it helps with retaining their shape and overall longevity. We also had some customers come to me saying they love their lined boots but they are too hot to wear often, so we started using some heavier weight leathers to avoid having to line them and remedy this problem. We’ve also started to use a welt on some pairs as well (starting this spring). It’s more of an aesthetic choice than anything, but it offers something new people aren’t used to seeing. All our shoes and boots are still 100 percent handsewn and hand cut, we still go through over 50 processes for each pair. I really feel happy with the direction we’ve taken.

Q: Where do you draw inspiration for your styles? How has your collection changed?
A: I think at this point in time the collection is at its most honest and “real” in terms of authenticity and uniqueness. There’s no one out there doing exactly what we do, materials, construction, and details all taken into account. I feel like in this industry there can be a need to chase or keep up with others in your realm. That’s sort of gone away for me, and now I’m just making a product I feel delivers a high value, looks great, and I can stand behind.

Inspiration can come from a number of places, it can be an old pair of moccasins I see online or in a second-hand shop, from technical fabrics on super expensive performance gear, or walking down the street and seeing someone who might not even be trying to have a unique style but something comes across as noticeable and attention-grabbing.

Q: What’s most important to you in a pair of shoes or boots?
A: Fit is huge: I tell people there is nothing worse than a pair of shoes or boots that stretch out too large. Get them super snug and allow for that natural stretch to occur. Materials are of course really important as well. I like earth tones and roughout leathers, a more minimal look is my speed.

Q: What style(s) are you most excited about from the current season?
A: The 7 Eyelet Field Boot came out really well, the make-up in the waterproof gunmetal might be my favorite. Next would be the Walk On Boot which was sort of a happy pattern-error-turned-new style. This fall so far I find myself wearing my Scout Boot in Chestnut Frontier the most — about to give them a treatment in prep for the coming snow.

Q: Tell me about Beaux Biens — how does the shop compliment the brand?
A: Beaux Biens started as a way to have my own outlet, to carry friend’s brands and others I really loved and felt strongly about. It’s more of a personal expression for me of what I’m about, and a place to be able to do some fun collaborations with Maine Mountain Moccasin and others as well. We’ve been adding to our team for both Maine Mountain Moccasin and the store which has already started to really free me up to plan what direction to go next with the store, hopefully opening a second location in Salem, Massachusetts or Beverly, Massachusetts and expanding to more brands as well as expanding the in-store brand. There are four new collaborative boots about to drop between the store and Maine Mountain Moccasin which are a bit more wild and fun — keep an eye out for that.

Ecco Exostrike Dyneema Boots

Every once in a while you need a good pair of boots, and if you’re a fan of Ecco’s, you’re in luck. The brand has finally updated its Exostrike range with Dyneema bonded leather uppers, making them more durable and robust.

Their build quality is so excellent, in fact, that the pair won the 2018 OutDoor Industry Award for performance and design. Apparently, Dyneema leather is stronger than steel, yet the textile is amazingly lightweight and tear-resistant, which is great if you’re going to use them while trudging rugged terrain. Another highlight of these boots are the midsoles, which are made of Phorene. It’s yet another fancy fabric Ecco threw in there to reduce the overall boot weight and enhance bounce-back and cushioning.

If you want boots made with toughness in mind, but you don’t want to sacrifice style, these are definitely for you. They’re tough enough to withstand even the harshest of trails, but also sleek and sophisticated enough for your streetwear getups. It’s the ideal balance between tough-as-nails quality and eye-catching aesthetics — you don’t want a rugged pair of boots that stick out like a sore a thumb, but especially not cool-looking kicks that wear out after a few uses.

In effect, you get a perfect blend between outdoors-ish shoes, but ones with an urban feel to them. That pretty much sells it, but there’s so much to love here, including the ultra-strong materials, the molded heel cup that gives it added stability, the chunky rubber outsole ready for all kinds of terrain. They’re available in gray or black.

Garmin Fenix 5X Plus

The likes of Apple and Samsung are currently dominating the smartwatch market. On the other hand, the fitness tracker segment is led by labels such as Fitbit, and a whole slew of other brands that recently joined the game. Meanwhile, one company has continuously produced high-end wearables that are feature-packed, durable, and stylish as well. The Garmin Fenix 5X Plus enters the fray with a premium cost that might be a little prohibitive for some.

It’s a little more expensive than your average smartwatch with prices starting at $800 up to $1,150. The range-topper touts a DLC titanium case and band that lends a lightweight but robust construction. It measures 51 mm in diameter with options for a smaller 47 mm or 42 mm version for those with smaller wrist sizes. The straps are likewise user-replaceable to match your mood or outfit.

When it comes to performance, GPS connectivity is its biggest advantage over other wearables. The manufacturer already has years of experience when it comes to its location tracking technology. This rugged top-grade fitness smartwatch sports a vibrant 1.2-inch 240 x 240-resolution transflective display—protected by a domed sapphire lens. Various sensors take care of its tracking functions to keep you updated regarding your workout or adventure.

Bluetooth connectivity allows you to pair the Garmin Fenix 5X Plus with your Apple or Android smartphone. The 16GB internal storage is plenty of space to save your music for wireless playback via Bluetooth headphones. Garmin Pay is also included for contactless payments.

2020 Kia Telluride By Brandon Maxwell

An unexpected guest just crashed a show during New York Fashion Week 2018. Attendees who looked forward to a catwalk lined with models dressed in the latest trends also caught a glimpse of something exciting. We are talking about the 2020 Kia Telluride that flaunted its wares on the runway. It only seems fitting that it made its debut during the event. That’s because this SUV just got a fresh coat of style courtesy of Brandon Maxwell.

According to sources, the Texas-born fashion designer claims that he always loved the brand. Therefore, he collaborated with Kia on a unique project. What we have is an exclusive variant of the eight-seater that any Texan would undoubtedly line up to own. Going with a theme that purposely reflects Maxwell’s state of origin, the SUV is adorned with a lot of materials that border on the impractical from a carmaker’s standpoint. However, when it comes to haute couture, practically anything goes.

Let’s start with the interior. The roomy cabin receives a healthy dose of natural wood trims that just looks perfect along with the liberal patches of leather all over. It doesn’t stop there—even the exterior components such as the side mirrors, grab handles, and the straps that hold the spare tire all feature brown double-stitched hide. This bespoke 2020 Kia Telluride definitely throws everything that Brandon Maxwell believes best showcases Texas. We hope it will be offered as an optional trim when the SUV officially arrives in showrooms next year.

Richard Mille Tourbillon Adventure Sylvester Stallone RM 25-01

The beauty of the craftsmanship featured by luxury watches is amazing to behold. Intricate inner workings intentionally exposed for the owner to marvel and enjoy. Normally, these models are for formal occasions—preferably with a matching attire to complete the ensemble. For those discerning few that are in the market for somewhat more rugged, maybe even better illustrated as something that Rambo might wear if he was going to an upscale event, the Richard Mille Tourbillon Adventure Sylvester Stallone RM 25-01 is the timepiece that you should own right now.

This horological beast is ready to accompany you to any adventure. The look itself automatically gives it away as a wristwatch for the outdoors. However, don’t let its roguishly-handsome aesthetics fool you, for underneath its military-inspired façade lies a luxury pedigree.

It is something apparently for the macho men (at least those with a cool $1 million to blow away). The wristwatch sports a 50.85 mm x 23.65 mm titanium and carbon TPT case, which also bears an elegant damascene pattern. You also get a removable bezel that can be interchanged from the default bidirectional option and a compass via a bayonet mount system.

Other notable features include a mounted spirit level and a hermetically-sealed compartment that holds around five water purification capsules. The Richard Mille Tourbillion Adventure Sylvester Stallone RM 25-01 will see a limited production run of 20 pieces.

Nike Air Jordan Proto-React

On the heels of the Jordan Apex-utility model, Nike’s Jordan Brand has officially unveiled another silhouette from its Flight Utility range. Called the Jordan Proto-React, they’re coming next year in several colorways. Choose between white, metallic silver, and neon-accented editions.

The kicks combines Nike React technology midsole with Air Jordan 1 codes, which means they’ll be one of the most comfortable shoes you’ll ever have the pleasure of wearing. They also feature adjustable heel straps for custom fit and Flight Utility graphic details on the tongue and heel tabs. The overall design is very understated, but still not too minimalist. You’ll see splashes of colors here and there. Enough to make them look interesting, but balanced and kept in check so as to not look too cartoonish or on-the-nose. The metallic silver edition is a particular highlight here, with a spread out ombre effect from the heel bleeding to the sides. It’s quite a sight.

The only difference between the Proto-React and the Apex-Utility is that the former does not come with a translucent upper, but instead appears to have more of a nylon or ripstop material. But they’re both lifestyle sneakers at the end of the day, so it’s up to you if that slight disparity bears any significance. Either way, you’ll look cool wearing one of them.

Nike has yet to reveal official pricing details for its new line of kicks, but expect them to hover near the traditional price of the company’s other Flight Utility models. Make sure to check Men’s Gear as we learn more.
