New Bugatti Chiron Sport “110 ans Bugatti” Celebrates 110th Anniversary

Bugatti have released a special edition version of the Bugatti Chiron named the Bugatti Chiron Sport “110 ans Bugatti”. Commemorating the company’s 110th anniversary, the special edition also pays tribute to the country where Bugatti was born, France.

The Bugatti Chiron Sport “110 ans Bugatti” is a special edition of the Chiron Sport limited to 20 cars. Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. said: “Molsheim in the Alsace region of France is an essential element in Bugatti’s brand history and this is also where we are planning our future.”

The special edition models use the colour scheme of the French tricolour “Le Bleu-Blanc-Rouge”, with its colours of blue, white and red. The theme can be seen across the Chiron from the bodywork right through to the interior.

The body of this Chiron is predominantly blue carbon fibre. Matt Steel Blue paintwork is used at the rear of the car using a complex painting process for a unique finish. The wheels are painted in “Nocturne” matt black and hide French Racing Blue brake callipers.

It is some of the small touches which make this Chiron Sport special though. The diffuser and bumper are finished in glossy Steel Blue Carbon. The matt black exhaust system sits in contrast. The underside of the rear spoiler is painted with the French flag. The 110 ans Bugatti even gets the Sky View roof as standard.

The interior is just as special. The high-quality embroidery applied to the headrest and the seat back feature the French flag in a vertical position. The sports steering wheel comes finished with a matt carbon fibre with a blue leather cover. The surfaces are either soft Deep Blue leather, Alcantara or blue carbon fibre. Finally, each car will get a specially crafted medallion in the central console stowage space, made of solid silver with enamel inserts.

Having taken a look at the photos, you are probably now wondering why the colours of the French flag are shown as a mirror image on the right-hand side of the vehicle. Bugatti explain that this is the arrangement adopted on French official vehicles, where the standard has the colour of liberty (blue) to the fore on both sides.

Pricing for the Bugatti Chiron Sport “110 ans Bugatti” has not been revealed. As for the availability of the 20 examples, Bugatti have not revealed how many have been sold.

Bugatti to Reveal New Models in 2019, Denies SUV Rumors

Bugatti chief executive Stephan Winkelmann recently took steps to curb rumours of that the company are working on a Bugatti SUV. He said that “an SUV would not do justice to the brand or its history”.

Winkelmann was speaking at Bugatti’s 110th anniversary celebrations. Despite the denial of the SUV rumours, Winkelmann did confirm that the company would release “further models” this year with a “few surprises”. Winkelmann also confirmed a celebratory tour to commemorate Bugatti’s founder, Ettore Bugatti.

Speculation is now rife for what the company might release at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show 2019. Bugatti had previously rule out a roadster version of the Chiron, however, thoughts on this may have changed since the question was first raised in 2016.

While the roadster remains the prime candidate, it is possible that Bugatti might choose to release a SuperSport version the Chiron. Given the relatively recent release of the Bugatti Divo and the lack of deliveries to date, we feel this is unlikely to happen this year.

It is possible that Bugatti could instead open up the books on special edition models. We saw plenty of those for the Bugatti Veyron. Cars like the Pur Sang and the Les Légendes de Bugatti.

All 40 Bugatti Divo special editions are sold out with Bugatti’s order books filled until the end of 2021. 76 Chirons were delivered to customers last year and Bugatti are expecting to deliver more this year.

MSO Creates Unique McLaren P1 GTR to Celebrate to Ayrton Senna

McLaren have taken the covers off of a brand new McLaren P1 GTR. Although the production run for the P1 came to an end years ago, McLaren have been convinced by one lucky individual to produce one last model, given the chassis designation 12. This particular P1 is very special. It has been designed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ayrton Senna’s first Formula 1 championship victory!

The bespoke McLaren P1 GTR is finished in the colours of Ayrton’s Marlboro sponsored McLaren MP4/4. It uses MSO’s McLaren Rocket Red and Anniversary White paint finish. The cigarette branding is gone, replaced by a barcode design. The car features further liveries including the Brazilian flag and Senna’s recognisable helmet design.

The owner, with the blessing of the Senna family, has named the bespoke P1 ‘Beco’, a reference to the family’s nickname for the legendary racing drive. The project has been three years in the making at an undisclosed cost.

What makes this P1 GTR so special are the unique touches applied to the aerodynamics. The car features new front dive planes, a wider front splitter and a rear a Gurney flap. New barge boards offer better channel airflow along the sides of the car and new endplates feature for the rear wing. A secondary wing element has also been added, the sum of these changes means that this P1 GTR generates 800 kg of downforce as against the 600 kg generated by standard GTR’s.

Other custom touches include lightweight racing seats lifted directly from the McLaren Senna, a 24ct gold heatshield, Lexan rear cover and modified engine bay shrouds. The McLaren press release also hints at increased power from the electric part of the hybrid drivetrain.

McLaren Speedtail Begins One Year Testing Ahead of 2020 Deliveries

McLaren have officially begun testing the Speedtail. Photos released this weekend show the first prototype, nicknamed ‘Albert’, which will commence testing at a closed-facility and on public roads from December 2018.

The Speedtail was officially unveiled last month. The third model in McLaren’s Ultimate series, it intends to capture some of the magic of the McLaren F1. The first prototype has been codenames ‘Albert’, named after Albert Drive, Woking, Surrey, the road where the McLaren F1 designs were originally sketched. Internally, the prototype gets the designation MVY02 combining McLaren’s usual MV project initials with the letters Y0 which signify the lateral central point in the XYZ axis for Computer Aided Design.

The Speedtail will be tested in Europe, North America and Africa on a mixture of bespoke automotive test facilities and on public roads. With the Speedtail, McLaren are promising customers the most aerodynamic and luxurious McLaren to date. Albert gets a production-specification chassis and an, as yet, unspecified petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain.

The Speedtail will prove unique with a three-seat cockpit and central driving position. Power output will be 1,050 PS with performance potential of up to 403 km/h. Replacing Chris Goodwin as McLaren Automotive’s Chief Test Driver, Kenny Bräck will take care of most of the high speed testing. Those with a keen eye for detail will notice that the front end of this particular Speedtail is that of a 720S.

5 McLaren Speedtail mules exist, Albert is the sixth. The existing mules will continue development alongside Albert until customers take first deliveries in early 2020. 106 cars will be made available at a cost of £1.75 million (plus local taxes). All examples are sold out.

Production Ready Aston Martin Valkyrie Revealed

Aston Martin have finally signed off the shape of the Valkyrie. That much we can deduce from the pictures Aston martin shared on tis official Instagram page earlier today. The photos show both the inside and the outside of the Valkyrie with a light to dark, fading blue colour scheme.

The car in the pictures looks distinctly different to the models we have seen at car shows worldwide. The design lines around the rear of the window appear to have been smoother over and the roof is now dominated by a small air intake. The side sills feature what look like gills and the front rear fender now features what looks like side lights.

Aston Martin Valkyrie

The design is still notable for its lack of side mirrors which perhaps suggests that the Valkyrie will use cameras, much like the recently announced McLaren Speedtail. The photos also show the massive cutaway front clam which is clearly visible from above.

The Valkyrie is expected to debut at some point next year. It has already been announced that the 6.5 litre V12 engine will be powered by a Cosworth engineered system. The total power output will be 1,130 hp when combined with a hybrid drive system. Weight will be just 1,030 kg.

Aston Martin hopes to have a road-going prototype by the end of the year with production scheduled to start in early 2019. 150 are planned for production at a cost of $3.2 million. Every single one is accounted for.

First Impression: Bugatti Divo

Less than a year since the charismatic ex-Lambo CEO Stephan Winkelmann took over at the helm of Bugatti we can witness his influence for the first time. At the heart of Paris surrounded by luxury hotels and upmarket boutiques Bugatti celebrated the European premiere of the Bugatti Divo. It is an extremely limited road legal new Bugatti model costing 5 million euros excluding tax.

The project was initiated by Winkelmann at the beginning of this year and aimed to create a more agile version of the Chiron. Hinted at the coachbuild history of Bugatti’s past its production is limited and comes on top of the 500 Chirons already being built over the course of eight years. The Divo shown to us in Paris is the first prototype. Production of the first customer Divo will begin late 2019 and all 40 will be delivered over the course of two years in 2020 and 2021.

The Divo has the same 8.0 liter W16 engine as the Chiron also producing 1,500hp. But the focus is on handling therefore the weight has been reduced by 35 kg and the downforce increased by 90 kg. The top speed is limited to 380 km/h compared to the 420 km/h of the Chiron. The removal of the top speed mode allowed Bugatti to increase the camber and lateral acceleration significantly up to 1.6 g. It is up to 8 seconds a lap faster on the handling track in Nardo.

The obvious changes include a radical new exterior styling moving away from Bugatti’s timeless elegance to a more Lamborghini-like appearance that expresses speed even when the Divo is standing still. The widened fixed rear wing and extended diffuser along with the unique three dimensional rear LED lights give the Divo a very different visual appearance.

Photos by David Kaiser

Inside the changes compared to the Chiron are not quite as significant as on the outside. But one great new option is the ability to create a real two-tone interior finishing the driver and co-driver side in different colors. True to the Veyron and Chiron interior designs the Divo interior is among the most timeless on the market today.

The new Bugatti is named after Albert Divo, a French racing driver who was a two-time winner of the famous Targa Florio race on the mountainous roads of Sicily with Bugatti in the late 1920s. Bugatti is blessed that many of it’s former employees and drivers had great names which can be used today.

Bugatti Divo Front View

The Bugatti Veyron was never keen on tight corners but with the arrival of the Chiron it already improved a lot and the Divo is promising to take the Bugatti brand to yet another level of driving dynamics. The only bad news is all have already been sold.

2021 Aston Martin Project 003 Hypercar Announced with Mid-Engine

Aston Martin have officially announced that they will produce a third hypercar. The project is currently under development and gets the internal code Aston Martin Project 003. Production will be limited to just 500 coupe’s and it should hit the market in late 2021.

What’s interesting about the Aston Martin Project 003 is that it promises to be a “revolutionary new mid-engined hypercar”. Aston Martin have never produced a mid-engine, sticking rigidly to the front-engine, rear wheel drive philosophy. The news coincides with the news that next month, 25 percent of Aston Martin’s stock will go on sale as part of an IPO.

The Aston Martin Project 003 will be the third hypercar to be developed internally, by Aston Martin following the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Valkyrie AMR Pro. Project 003 promises to use a lightweight structure with power from a turbocharged petrol-electric hybrid engine. Active aerodynamics, active suspension systems and practical concessions for luggage space are also being promised for both left and right and drive models.

Aston Martin Lagonda President and Group Chief Executive, Andy Palmer, said: “It was always the intention for the Aston Martin Valkyrie to be a once-in-a lifetime project, however, it was also vital to us that Valkyrie would create a legacy: a direct descendent that would also set new standards within its own area of the hypercar market, creating a bloodline of highly specialised, limited production machines that can exist in parallel with Aston Martin’s series production models. I’m thrilled to announce that this car is the Project ‘003’, and our next step into a dynamic and exacting arena.”

As you would expect, at this early stage, information is scarce. Aston Martin are continuing to develop the Valkyrie at this point in time and we are unlikely to hear much more until that project begins the deliveries stage. The news of Aston Martin’s mid-engine hypercar has likely been choreographed to boost the IPO which takes place at a difficult time for the UK economy.

Project 003 isn’t the only mid-engine model that Aston Martin have under development. If rumours are to be believed, the British company are set to launch a Ferrari 488 GTB rival some time after 2021. While Project 003 will tackle competition such as the McLaren Senna, the other mid-engine supercar will do battle against the McLaren 720S and the Lamborghini Huracan.

Aston Martin Valkyrie to Have Most Powerful Naturally Aspirated Engine – 1,130 bhp

A tweet by Cosworth (who evidently jumped the gun with this announcement) has confirmed that the Aston Martin Valkyrie is set to benefit from the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated road engine. The British engineering firm have confirmed, via social media, that the Valkyrie’s 6.5-litre V12 lump will get 1,130 bhp.

The (recently deleted) tweet read: “We’re famous for breaking records and our latest engine, the Aston Martin Valkyrie 6.5-litre V12, will be the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated road engine with 1,130bhp.” The tweet leaves plenty of questions as we had previously expected the Valkyrie to come equipped with a 1,130 bhp as the total of the V12 unit and electric power combined.

It remains a mystery as to what the exact output figures will be. One thing is for sure, the first Valkyries are set to hit the road next year so we won’t have long to wait until we find out!

The current record for a naturally aspirated road engine is the LaFerrari with its 789 hp, 6.3-liter V12. The list is dominated by Ferrari powerplants which occupy first, third and fourth positions. The Valkyrie AMR Pro track car is expected to exceed the standard version but should be more temperamental given its track-only application.

So what do we know about the Valkyrie already? The shape appears to be pretty much decided now. It was developed by Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing. It should produce around 4,000 lb’s of downforce under acceleration. The mechanics of the car have received widespread input from the likes of Cosworth, Ricardo, Rimac Automobili, Multimatic, Alcon, Bosch, Surface Transforms, Wipac, and Michelin.

Brabham BT62 Road Car is in the Works

Fresh off the back of last week’s successful unveil of its new hypercar, Brabham appears to have confirmed that it plans to offer a road legal version of the Brabham BT62. The BT62 is, for now, intended as an exclusive track-only hypercar. Take a closer look and it’s clear that the project was built around something that could one day transition onto the road.

The company is run by David Brabham, son of the legendary, Sir Jack Brabham. David has won at Le Mans before (in 2009 with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP). Various sources are confirming that he did not deny the company planned to develop a Le Mans 24 Hour challenger followed by a road-going hypercar based on the BT62 platform.

The prototype version of the Brabham BT62 carried many of the traits associated with a road car. It has headlights, taillights and a semi-acceptable ride height. Take away the extreme front facia, rear bumper, diffuser and rear spoiler, you have an almost ready to roll road legal hypercar!

The Brabham BT62 is rear-wheel-drive, powered by a 5.4-litre naturally aspirated V8 believed to have been sourced through Ford but with many bespoke components. With a 972 kg weight rating and 492 lb-ft of torque, it is expected to achieve a power-to-weight ratio of 720 bhp per tonne. Power is delivered through a six-speed Holinger sequential gearbox, with steering wheel-mounted paddles. The car sits on 18 inch wheels front and rear.

Brabham reckon it is already nearing completion on the production scale so, if you fancy a track car while you wait for the road car, it shouldn’t be too long before you take delivery!

Zenvo at the Geneva Motor Show 2018

Danish hypercar manufacturer Zenvo has presented a their model for its TS model range at the Geneva Motor Show 2018. The Danish manufacturer appears to be alive and kicking although we have to admit that we haven’t seen any customer cars on the road yet! We took a closer look and found out what differentiates the Zenvo TSR-S.

Zenvo TSR-S

The third model in the TS (Twin Supercharged) model lineup joins the TS1 GT and TSR track car. The headline figures are an increase in power. Zenvo’s 5.8 litre twin-supercharged V8 produces a staggering 1,177 bhp and 1,100 Nm of torque through a 7-speed transmission or a race gearbox. It allows a 100 km/h sprint of 2.8 seconds and 200 km/h sprint in 6.8 seconds.

The TSR-S is essentially a street-legal version of the TSR, track car announced last year. The Centripetal Wing is brand new with an active multi-axis design which acts as an air brake, rotating to generate inward force with the conventional downforce. It’s a bit like an aerodynamic gimbal.

Zenvo’s production of the TSR-S is apparently underway and will form part of Zenvo’s limited production of just five cars a year. We hope to see one on the road in the coming year!

Koenigsegg at the Geneva Motor Show 2018

Koenigsegg have a long history of presenting at the Geneva Motor Show. For the Geneva Motor Show 2018, the Swedish manufacturer brought a three-car display, comprising of two heavily customised Regera models and a further refitted Koenigsegg CCX. Alongside this, Christian von Koenigsegg confirmed that an Agera RS replacement would be presented at next year’s show. We took a closer look at the latest Koenigseeg had to offer.

Crystal White Koenigsegg Regera

Koenigsegg can’t be far off releasing the new Regera. With all the production slots accounted for and the engineering aspects of the car seemingly sorter, these two Regera’s provide an insight into the unique level of customisation that Koenigsegg offers for it’s customers.

The Crystal White Koenigsegg Regera gets a namesake body colour with a clear carbon central strip and cone orange highlights which match the tan leather interior. This car features Koenigseeg’s aerodynamic package named “Ghost” which adds the rear wings and front flics. It accounts for a 20% increase in downforce.

Koenigsegg Regera d’Elegance

The Regera d’Elegance gets a Swedish Blue finish with blue tinted carbon fibre and Ocean Green accents. It gets a unique interior in matching colours and constructed using Scandinavian material.

Of course, the highlight of both cars is the powertrain. It combines a twin-turbo V8 engine (1,100hp) with a battery pack producing 670 hp. The electrical component of the powertrain is channeled via the world’s first 800-volt automotive electrical architecture. Koenigsegg have also created the Koenigsegg Direct Drive system which does away with conventional gearing. From 0 to 400 km/h takes place in less than 20 seconds.

Koenigsegg CCX

Koenigsegg’s final display piece is the refitted Koenigsegg CCX. The 12 year old CCX features Koenigsegg’s 4.7 litre twin-supercharged V8, producing 806hp and driven by a 6-speed manual gearbox. It’s a right hand drive car which has been fully refitted through Koenigsegg’s Certified Legends program.
