Fluid Inside Impact Protection System

It’s been a while since we’ve seen any revolutionary upgrades to protective headgear. Aside from the introduction of lightweight but durable materials in newer models, the concept is pretty much the same. What we are referring to is the layer of foam that sits in between the outer shell and the inner lining. For the longest time, what keeps our head safe from extreme impacts is the combination of various shock-absorbing materials. However, new technology like the Fluid Inside impact protection system is about to change the game.

The company is taking 25 years of research data regarding head injuries to come up with a unique solution. Medical studies show that the human body already is already using a remarkable system to protect our brain from impacts. A layer of fluid surrounding the brain ideally keep it from getting thrown around our skulls. However, strong and sudden hits resulting from various factors can cause major damage and even death.

Drawing inspiration from our body’s natural defenses, the company hopes to introduce something different. Instead of regular foam layers, the Fluid Inside impact protection system will add Fluid Pods to the mix. Each of these pads will hold a special liquid akin in composition to that of our cerebrospinal fluids. Depending on the type and purpose of the helmet, the pads will be applied to specific areas that receive the most impact. This new technology will make protective headgear safer in the future. We are hoping that this concept will be making its way to other types of safety gear later on.

Fox Racing V3 Solids Helmet

Here comes Fox Racing with another cutting-edge addition to its motocross apparel lineup. The V3 Solids Helmet, which isn’t just a doddy rehash of its predecessor, but a complete overhaul.

The tech-rich update brings a handful of revolutionary features like Fluid Inside and MVRS. Since Fox Racing’s helmets are worn by professional racers all over the world, there really shouldn’t be any question about this new gear. But in case you’re aching for details, let’s get into it.

First off, safety. The Fox Racing V3 Solids Helmet sports a litany of new features to ensure the rider is always in tip-top shape. The aforementioned Fluid Inside will protect against strong impacts. Fox Racing claims that it’s the most reliable impact protection system to date. It’s engineered to enhance the rider’s safety by emulating the Cerebral Spinal Fluid. That’s the body’s natural protection, in case you didn’t know.

More specifically, it works with your CSF to improve the absorption of impact energy, reducing the potential of concussive brain injuries.

The helmet also brings second-generation Magnetic Visor Release System to the fold, otherwise known as MVRS. This time around it’s got more roost resistance and a refined release control. As a result, it can better mitigate external rotational forces at play when racing.

The fox Racing V3 Solids Helmet also features a dual-density Varizord EPS liner, which provides improved protection by spreading the forces of impact across a wider surface area.

The helmet will comes in a couple of colorways — white and black — and retails for $500. That’s a small price to pay for something so robust, well-designed, and feature-rich.

Berluti x Veldt Fashion Helmet

Consider us fans of this stylish and ultra-posh leather helmet. It’s the result of a collaboration between French luxury brand Berluti and helmet maker Veldt. Helmets are all about optimum protection these days (as they should be, of course), but sometimes aesthetic quality is compromised to prioritize robustness and protection.

That’s why we love the helmet you see above, because it elevates the helmet design not by adding unnecessary decor, but by using simple materials and creating a headgear that seems at once minimalist but not insufficient.

Part of Berluti’s Fall/Winter 2018 runway collection, the luxury brand takes carbon fiber and elevates it by adding leather accents, a Scritto graphic, and Coolmax padding. Add to that black galvanized metal hardware and perforated calfskin leather. The chin guard is removable, courtesy of Veldt’s modular design. Meaning, you can turn it into an open-face helmet if that’s more of your style.

Some riders refuse to wear helmets because most of the options available are lacking in style. As an argument against wearing proper headgear, that doesn’t make much sense, if we’re being honest. However, it’s easy to see where they’re coming from.

It goes without saying that you should always wear a helmet. It’s been proven time and time again doing so can potentially save your life in the event of an accident. But that doesn’t mean you have to wear a bland, uninspired one that doesn’t represent your personality. Berluti’s sophisticated revamp of Veldt’s high-performance helmet is one of the finest examples of combining craftsmanship and fashion, and if you wear it on the road, expect onlookers to wish they had one, too.

Alpinestars Supertech M10 Meta Helmet

The new Supertech M10 Meta Helmet is now on shelves, but Alpinestars had actually spent five years developing it. The goal was simple: create the most advanced, protective, and performance-enhancing helmet possible, and give it excellent ventilation, comfort, and reduced weight. In short, make something that prioritizes safety and comfort in equal measure.

The result is a helmet with a 3K high-density carbon outer layer that spreads energy upon impact, ensuring that the Supertech M10 protects the rider in the event of an accident. That’s thanks mainly to the surface curvature, which promotes reduced friction on impact and allows the helmet to efficiently transfer energy, insulating the rider’s head from direct force to the skull. It also boasts an Aramid fiber layer that prevents the user from critical penetration.

Ventilation was also a key priority for Alpinestars in designing the helmet, and it conducted heat mapping tests to come up with specifically designed ducting that produces a positive flow into the helmet over and around the rider’s head, which not only reduces heat stress, but also improves comfort. The Supertech M10’s visor design contributes to the overall ventilation system as well, acting as a channel to concentrate and smooth the flow into the shell.

The helmet also boasts a so-called A-Head Fitment System (which Alpinestars patented) that allows you to adjust the helmet in whichever way you see fit. There’s a micro-adjustable pad connect to the helmet’s inner shell that allows you to raise or lower the helmet fit, or tilt it forwards and backwards.

Ingenious design and unmatched protection come together in the Supertech M10 Meta, so if you’re looking for a helmet that not only will save your life but also make you look extremely cool, this is the one to get.
