When the Cole Haan innovation team set out to create a hiking boot, they first consulted professional alpine climber Freddie Wilkinson. The most important aspect of a boot, according to the respected mountaineer, is that it’s waterproof. Also essential is comfort, as blisters can be more than just an annoyance when making first ascents across the world.

Based in New Hampshire, Cole Haan’s innovation team set-out to produce a great casual hiker that would work in all conditions. The style, dubbed the Grand Explorer, features a one-piece upper crafted from Charles F. Stead waterproof suede that is seam sealed for added protection. For comfort, the boot has a custom felted quilted lining, a flexible sole and a cork midsole that will mold to the wearer’s foot.

Normally $350, the Grand Explorer is now 57 percent off at Nordstrom Rack and costs just $150. If you’re in need of a new boot that is both functional and good-looking, this is seriously worth considering.
