Jaeger-LeCoultre’s well-received Polaris collection — based on a ’60s diver — only debuted earlier this year, and now the watchmaker is adding a special edition to the ranks. The New Polaris Geographic WT retains the vintage-inspired aesthetic as the core Polaris collection, bet gets a new dial and better yet a new movement: JLC’s Calibre 936A/1, an in-house automatic with a world time, a complication built for avid travelers and “men of action,” according to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s press release.
Okay, goofy hyperbole aside, we kinda get what they’re going for. Often high-end mechanical complications like world timers feel somewhat precious, but the Polaris is billed as a tool watch. It’s water resistant to 100 meters and has a smattering of lume on the hands and numerals meaning it’s legible at night, making it a worthy companion for international adventures traveling off the beaten path. You know, if you’re actually doing that sort of thing while wearing a five-figure watch. There are still hallmarks of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s fine watchmaking prowess, though, notably a gorgeous “smoky” blue-and-black gradient dial and a beautifully-finished movement visible through the case back, finished with Geneva stripes and blued screws.
Only 250 pieces will be made, though, and will only be available in Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques (unfortunately not JLC’s new e-commerce platform). When it does go on sale, it’ll retail for around $16,535 (13,650 Euro).
