Gordan Murray’s T50 Hypercar to Take On Aston Martin’s Valkyrie

A Successor to the Iconic McLaren F1

Designer Gordan Murray is reportedly working on a car that will be more advanced than Aston Martin’s Valkyrie hypercar. It will be the spiritual successor to the McLaren F1. According to The Supercar Blog, Gordan Murray has quietly been working on a project called codenamed the T50 while everyone around the world discusses the Mercedes-AMG One and the Aston Martin Valkyrie.

According to the publication, a person intimate with Murray was able to see the car. That person said it looks like a modern-day McLaren F1. “Think of a Mclaren F1, but 30 years later,” this unnamed source told the publication. Gordan Murray worked on the original McLaren F1 among other great hyper and supercars.

The source also told the publication that the car will feature a new and totally unique naturally aspirated V12. That comes as a surprise considering all of the hybrid, turbocharged, and supercharged vehicles out there today, especially in the hypercar and supercar space.

What’s most interesting, though, is that the engine in the T50 is said to be lighter weight and smaller than the one in Aston Martin’s Valkyrie. The publication reported the entire car will weigh less than 1,000 kg (about 2,200 pounds). The model will be produced in “ultra limited” numbers.

Feast Your Eyes on the Pagani Huayra Dragon

The Most Extreme Huayra

There were some spy shots and videos floating around the web of a new version of the Huayra from Pagani, but now there are some exclusive images of the upcoming car. The Pagani Huayra Dragon is the most advanced version of the car yet and has all of the features spied on the car in the spy shots. This is the next big thing for the company.

GT Spirit first shared the images of the Huayra Dragon, which we’ve included above and below. The car looks amazing with all kinds of special aerodynamic elements including a massive rear diffuser, a huge carbon fiber wing, and a flatter front splitter.

There are various vents and air outlets on the car that are not on previous versions of the Huayra. According to reports, Pagani will begin producing the Huayra Dragon once it is done building the 100 Huayra Roadsters. TopCar Design commissioned the Dragon from Pagani.

Official details for this car are scarce. However, you can bet the vehicle will have the twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 engine that the company sources from AMG. In Huayra BC form, that engine made 754 hp. It would make sense for Pagani to work on upgrading the engine in this model to produce more horsepower than that.

We’d love to see the car produce over 800 hp, but as of yet, there is no indication that is the case. Until official details come to light, enjoy the images included.

Ares Design Panther Project Spyder Confirmed

A Modern Day De Tomaso Pantera Spyder

We’ve always loved the De Tomaso Pantera, and we’re thrilled to see Ares Design come out with a car that was heavily inspired by the vehicle. It’s like the modern-day car that we thought we’d never get. Now Ares Design has confirmed that it will build a Spyder variant of the car.

In an interview with Top Gear, Dany Bahar, who is the company’s boss, said that the deliveries for the coupe version of the car will begin getting to customers by the end of April. Then he said, “a few months later, [Ares] will present the Spyder version.”

The Panter Project is a car built on the Lamborghini Huracan. Lamborghini also has a Spyder version of the car, so Ares Design will likely use this version of the car to make the Spyder. According to Top Gear, only 70 Panter Project cars will be built. This includes both the coupe and Spyder.

As far as the performance numbers go, we’d expect them to be essentially the same as the coupe version of the car. It will be interesting to see how Ares Design manages with the styling of the car. The coupe version looks fantastic, so we’d imagine the convertible one will too, but you never know. Full details will be released at a later date when the company shows off the car. As Bahar said, that will occur a few months later. Until then, we’ll keep you posted on any new developments.

The Aston Martin Vantage Roadster Should Come Soon

The Drop Top Vantage Can’t Come Soon Enough

We love the Aston Martin Vantage and the upcoming Vantage Roadster should be just as awesome. It’s still unclear when exactly the Vantage Roadster will break cover, but according to the chief creative officer, Marek Reichman, all the work on the car is done. That means it will come very soon, indeed.

Reichman sat down with Car Advice to chat about the car and let slip that all the work on the vehicle is already done. “They’re going through some of the final testing, [but] the car’s all done,” he told the publication. He also said that Aston Martin would debut the car later this year, specifically late in the year.

The Vantage Roadster will be more or less the same to the coupe but obviously with a drop top. The powertrain and most of the car’s performance bits will likely be the same. Reichman didn’t say much more about the car other than the fact that it was finished and more or less ready to go.

Car Advice asked him about whether or not a V12 would be added to the Vantage lineup with the addition of the roadster. He did not say whether or not Aston had plans to add a 12-cylinder engine. That would mean the Vantage Roadster would get the 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 that’s currently in the car. That would make the most sense for the company, too because it has the powertrain already installed on the coupe model.

Watch Chris Harris Hustle the Porsche 919 Around a Racetrack

Harris Looks Genuinely Amazed

The Porsche 919 is the amazing hybrid Le Mans-winning car that the company recently retired from racing. Top Gear’s Chris Harris was lucky enough to have a chance to take the car for a spin around Cuidad Del Motor De Aragon in Spain. He also took a look behind the scenes of the car to see the nitty-gritty details, too.

The Porsche 919 Hybrid is an amazing vehicle. It pairs a 2.0-liter V4 engine that makes 500 hp with an electric motor that adds another 400 hp. Add to all that some serious aerodynamic treatment, computer power management systems that help with power assist and torque vectoring, and you’ve got one of the most amazing cars ever built.

Before Harris was allowed to drive the 919 on the Spanish racetrack, he had to spend some time in a simulator. The simulator looks like an awesome giant video game. Most car enthusiasts dream video game. However, Harris claims it isn’t a fun place to be. The simulator looks amazingly real, though.

After that, Harris goes over the 919 EVO, which Porsche is using to try to beat track lap times around the world. The EVO is a souped-up version of the regular 919 and roughly makes an amazing 1,200 hp in a car that weighs about 1,940 pounds. That’s an insane power-to-weight ratio.

Then Harris gets out on the racetrack. The 919 looks like a true force. You can tell in the video that the electronics are picking up the slack and allowing for faster speeds. Harris says it feels like the car is “doing more thinking around the lap than me.”

The advanced electronics systems make adjustments to the car to compensate for the driver. This allows corners to be taken faster and boost applied when necessary. It’s a lot of fun to watch. Check out the video below.

What the Lotus Hypercar Could Be

Lotus and Williams Advanced Engineering Team Up

Recent rumors and reports indicate that Lotus will build a hypercar with the help of Williams Advanced Engineering that will challenge the likes of Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG’s hypercars. According to Carscoops, the car that got people excited about future possibilities is called the Lotus Evil Vision GT concept that was a design concept created by Antonio Paglia.

The car looks like its straight out of a future F1 race. It has huge air intakes up front, a rear-mid-engine overall design, and some of the most aerodynamic-looking elements we’ve seen on any hypercar. There is not a central part of the front bumper. Instead, there’s a large expanse that helps direct air in the right ways.

The concept is striking and would definitely put Lotus on the hypercar map. However, there’s no true indicator that this will be anything like the actual Lotus car that’s likely in development. With that said, we’d love to see it become that.

Lotus is known for its sports cars, but it hasn’t dived into the hypercar and supercar markets. With the help of Williams Advanced Engineering, the company could probably pull it off. We’re all for more high-performing cars in the world, and something from Lotus would scratch us right where we itch. We’ll be keeping an eye out for future developments.

The Lister Knobbly Sports Car Looks Absolutely Amazing

What We Were Hoping For

The original Lister Knobbly sports car from the 1950s were serious racing machines of the time. Their prowess on the racetrack was known internationally. Now the company has a new Knobbly. A teaser was released on Twitter and now we have an even better shot of the new car.

Lister did the old one justice, giving the new car some sensuous curves and a large mouth not unlike the original car. Is it as beautiful as the Knobbly’s of old? No, but it’s pretty close. For a modern car, it does a good job of translating that unique 1950s racecar style.

This new shot in conjunction with the image Tweeted out by the company’s boss sent out previously gives us a pretty good idea of what the new Lister will be. It’s a low-slung speedster with a hood that goes on for days. It’s a unique and absolutely gorgeous car.

The vehicle, like the Ferrari Monza SP, has an open cockpit with a tiny windscreen and side mirrors. It’s a throwback and a big move forward all at once. The company released the new image and confirmed officially that the car will be built. However, there’s not much known about the vehicle in terms of engine or performance. Speculation is that it will come with a Jaguar-derived engine, either a V6 or V8. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for the Jaguar’s 5.0-liter supercharged V8.

Ferrari Wants to Keep the V12 Naturally Aspirated

Let the Glorious V12 Roar On

Nothing says Ferrari like a V12. The 12-cylinder engine has been one of the hallmarks of the top-of-the-line Prancing Horse models for a long time. The engine in a Ferrari car is an iconic feature. That’s why the company says it wants to keep the V12 in its lineup without having to mess with it.

That means no turbochargers and no hybridization. The Italian automaker wants to continue with the naturally aspirated version of the engine in its lineup. It would make sense for the company to do so. There will likely always be a certain group of folks who want a Ferrari with a V12.

When discussing hybridization with Top Gear, Ferrari technical chief Michael Leiters said that you have to downsize the gasoline engine, and the V12 is not a downsized engine.

A naturally aspirated V12 engine is not a downsized engine, and for me it doesn’t make sense as a hybrid. We will fight for the V12, of course. We will do everything we can to keep it as it is core to our brand. But a real hybridization of the V12? I don’t see it.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see how the company moves forward with the V12. Leiters told Top Gear that he and the rest of Ferrari will have to look at emissions moving forward. That could make a V12 more difficult to produce than ever before.

Ares Design Panther Project 1 Is Styled After the De Tomaso Pantera

Underneath This Beauty Lurks a Lamborghini Huracan

The vehicle you see before you is the Ares Design Panther Project 1, but it’s actually a Lamborghini Huracan underneath. The design house too the 5.2-liter V10 supercar and added a retro looking body to it that was inspired by the De Tomaso Pantera. Ares Design hasn’t just left the Huracan underpinnings and powertrain alone, though. The company made the car and its engine its own.

The Panther Project 1 makes a strong 641 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. It achieved this through an ECU tune and a new exhaust system. The company didn’t touch the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or the all-wheel-drive system. It’s actually slower than the Huracan to 60 mph, but it has the same top speed. Despite this slight decline in acceleration, the car should still be a true performer both on the road and on the racetrack.

All the body panels of the car are made of carbon fiber, and the car has some unique flip-up headlights you won’t find anywhere else. The interior of the car has been completely restyled. It has tons of carbon fiber, Alcantara, and Nappa leather. The only thing that’s obviously Lamborghini here are the electronics.

The company can build one of these beautiful De Tomaso Pantera lookalikes in about three months. If you want one, you’ll have to wait that long and be willing to fork over $695,000.

Ferrari’s New V6 Hybrid Could Make 723 HP

For the New Dino, Perhaps?

We’ve known for a while that Ferrari is working on a new V6 hybrid powertrain for some of its future vehicles. What exactly those vehicles are is yet to be seen. UK publication CAR Magazine recently reported that the new powertrain could make as much as 723 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque.

That’s quite a lot of power and would be perfect for a new Ferrari Dino that has been rumored for some time. CAR reports that the Dino has been an on again, off again project for the company for some time now. Several people high up with the company liked the idea of a new Dino, especially the late Sergio Marchionne. However, as of yet, nothing has come.

Could a new Dino get a V6 hybrid?

There’s also the chance that a future Ferrari SUV could have the powertrain. That would make it a serious contender with the other SUVs on the market from Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Lamborghini. Ferrari has not said yet what will power its upcoming SUV, though it has said the name will be Purosangue.

It will be interesting to see where the V6 hybrid powertrain lands in the Ferrari lineup. It would make sense for the company to use the powertrain in multiple models, so there’s a chance that it could end up in the Dino and the Purosangue. Only time will tell.

Could Aston Martin’s AM-RB 003 Hypercar Get the Name Valhalla?

Continuing the Norse Mythology With Its Names

The Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer had an interview with Automotive News Europe and said, “Valhalla is a name we have registered in our naming book.” Due to the fact that the AM-RB 003 Hypercar is currently without a name, it would make sense for the car to receive Valhalla as its name.

The use of the name Valhalla isn’t honestly too surprising. Valkyrie, which is the car that slots above the AM-RB 003, is a name from Norse mythology, so why not name the car that slots under it something in the same pantheon? The Valhalla name even works from an alliteration standpoint.

The production version of the AM-RB 003 is still under development, but when it arrives it will be a force to be reckoned with. The car should have a V6 hybrid powertrain. The specifics for the powertrain’s output is not yet known. Aston hasn’t shared the information publicly.

Aston plans to build 500 of the model, and the car will cost over $1.3 million, according to Carscoops. The car’s release date is set for sometime in 2021, so Aston still has some time to finish making tweaks with the car, though 2021 is just around the corner.

If You Beat This Drift in a 2JZ Converted New Supra, We’ll Pay You $500

Can You Do It?

With all the new Supra news and multiple people putting the 2JZ engine in the new car, the Supercars.net team thought it best to get involved. We don’t have our hands on the new Supra yet. If we did, it’d be hard for us to not want to pull out the BMW-sourced engine and drop in the 2JZ engine that made the Supra so legendary.

To that end, we want to offer to you some incentive to make the conversion and then use it exactly how you should. If you can beat the righteous drift seen in the gif below in a new 2020 Supra that’s undergone the 2JZ engine conversion, then we’ll give you $500.

The $500 will go to the first person who pulls this off. If you can provide us photographic evidence of the 2JZ engine in your new Supra and video evidence of you performing a drift that beats the one above, then the money is yours.

The new 2020 Supra has spurred some vitriol from many enthusiasts due to the fact that it borrows so much from BMW. Despite this, it’s a killer car, and the fact that people are removing the BMW engine and putting in the 2jZ straight-six engine is amazing and hilarious. It’s a clear indicator of how important the Supra has become, and we want to be a part of that rich legacy if only peripherally. $500 is yours for the taking. Go smoke some tires and get back to us.

You can watch the whole video of the Supra doing its thing on the track below. The drift begins at the 2:40 mark.

Lamborghini To Introduce Fourth Model to Lineup?

A 2+2 GT Could be Coming

In a recent interview, Lamborghini’s CEO Stefano Domenicali said that a fourth model could be coming in the future. He spoke with Autocar recently and said that once the automaker can increase volume and then stabilize that volume that a fourth Lambo model would make sense.

He did not say how long this would take. “But we are not strong or stable enough to invest in a fourth model right now,” Domenicali told Autocar.

The company things volume with its current lineup could go as high as 8,000 units per year. This last year, the company sold a record-high 5750 vehicles, so there’s still a ways to go before they reach the point where a fourth vehicle could enter the lineup. When that does happen, though, the vehicle would likely be a 2+2 GT car.

“The idea is for a grand tourer, a 2+2,” Domenicali said. “That is something we are working on already.” What exactly that car will be like is yet to be determined. Lamborghini obviously knows, but it’s keeping the details of that development close to its vest at this point in the game.

Carscoops suggests it could be like the Lamborghini Estoque concept from a decade ago. That car would fit the profile for what Domenicali is talking about. It would likely be seriously updated from the original concept, though in many ways, including powertrain, technology, and styling. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Lamborghini make a hybrid variant of the car, too. By the time it comes out, hybrid and electric vehicle technology will have likely progressed considerably.

Porsche to Celebrate the 917 Turning 50 With Concept

Porsche Says it’s Purely a Concept Study

The Porsche 917 was a dominant force in motorsports in the 70s, and now it turns 50. As it does, the company thought the best way to honor the car was to create the 917 concept car you see shown above. It also decided to restore some 917s and showcase them at the celebration ceremony at the Porsche Museum in Germany.

The museum will hold a special exhibition titled “Colours of Speed – 50 Years of the 917.” It will showcase the historic car in all its glory as well as the new concept. The company has put together 14 different exhibits as part of the museum’s showcase. Of those exhibits, 10 of them will be of restored 917s, including the very first one ever to be built.

The red and white 917 concept car will be on display next to the historic cars. Porsche insists it is solely a concept study, but it looks too good to just be a concept. We’d love to see the car as a competition model. That, however, is doubtful. In addition to the concept car and the historic, restored cars, Porsche has many different items that will help demonstrate the impact of the 917 on the motorsport world, including some technical exhibits and several posters and products for sale.

We’re glad to see Porsche going to such lengths to honor one of its most amazing cars of all time. However, we’d love to see the concept move beyond this simple presentation. We want to see it become a real car due to the fact that it’s absolutely amazing to look at, and we imagine if Porsche finished it, it would be amazing to drive, too.

Top Gear’s Matt LeBlanc Drives the Ferrari 812 Superfast

He Says the Superfast is Too Fast for the Road

How much horsepower and speed do we really need on the road? That’s a question Top Gear’s Matt LeBlanc essentially asks while driving the Ferrari 812 Superfast. He said the 789 hp machine doesn’t really make that great of a grand touring car because it has too much power and too much of a penchant for the racetrack.

To be fair, he makes a good point. A good grand touring car should be fast and fun, but it should also be supremely comfortable and lovely to drive. While the 812 Superfast appears to check most of those boxes, according to LeBlanc, it’s too hopped-up and race-ready for you to drive comfortably.

The car keeps you on your toes, which is an appealing feature in many cases, but if you were on a long road trip, it’d be the last thing you’d want. Your nerves would be shot after only traveling for a portion of your journey. Of course, you could drive the 812 Superfast like a grandma, but that’s not what this car is about.

LeBlanc also takes the 812 Superfast to the racetrack to prove its prowess there. It’s a killer car, but it’s not truly designed for the racetrack either. That begs the question, where does it really belong? There’s no denying the 812 Superfast is one of the best Ferrari cars yet, but it brings up some fair questions about horsepower, speed, and the true purpose of the grand touring car.

Hispano Suiza Automobilmanufaktur AG Unveiled the Maguari HS1 GTC

The Other Hispano Suiza Car

There’s two company’s using the Hispano Suiza name right now, but they’ve both brought cars to the Geneva Motor Show. Those cars are dramatically different. The Maguari HS1 GTC built by Hispano Suiza Automobilmanufaktur AG is almost the opposite from the retro-inspired Hispano Suiza Cars Carmen supercar. The Maguari HS1 GTC offers more of a futuristic design and styling.

We reported on the Maguri HS1 GTC not too long ago. It’s an interesting car, and now that the company has fully debuted the vehicle in Geneva we’ve got all the details we didn’t have before. The car gets an aluminum space frame chassis. The body is all carbon fiber.

The power for the vehicle comes from a monster of an internal combustion engine. It gets a twin-turbo 5.2-liter V10 engine that makes 1,070 hp and 774 lb-ft of torque. That engine connects to a seven-speed automatic transmission which filters power to the rear wheels. That amount of power going to the rear wheels makes the Maguri HS1 GTC good for a 0 to 62 mph time of just 2.8 seconds. It has a top speed of 236 mph, which is more than most of the other high-speed cars at the Geneva Motor Show.

The company plans to limit production to 300 units. The first ten cars will be special edition versions with some extra Hispano Suiza swag included. Buyers of those 10 cars will get gloves, shoes, luggage, and a handbag. At $2.5 million, the company better throw in some extras.

Puritalia Berlinetta Is a 965 Horsepower Italian Land Rocket

Beauty and Power Go Well Together

The Geneva Motor Show has been full of crazy supercars and sports cars. Ferrari, Italdesign, Pininfarina, and Lamborghini might be bigger names that Puritalia, but that doesn’t mean the company’s Berlinetta should be overlooked. It’s just as sleek, sexy, and as Italian as any of the others.

The car features a beautiful body obviously influenced heavily from the Puritalia 427 roadster that broke cover a while back. The Berlinetta is arguably the more beautiful of the two cars, though. It’s sleek and takes cues from other popular, beautiful coupes. Pair the styling with a carbon and aluminum chassis and a 50:50 weight distribution with the super powerful hybrid powertrain and you have a recipe for one of the best sports cars out there.

The Puritalia Berlinetta comes with a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 up front paired with an electric motor. It’s a hybrid system that produces a whopping 965 hp and 920 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain connects to a seven-speed sequential gearbox that pushes all the power to the rear wheels.

With the powertrain and transmission combo, Puritailia is looking at a 2.7-second 0 to 62 mph time and a top speed of 208 mph. An artificial intelligence system manages the electronics, vehicle dynamics, and power. Puritalia will build only 150 of its Berlinetta. The price for the model is set at $627,000.

Morgan Plus Six Debuts in Geneva

A Morgan With a Straight Six

Morgan is best known for the fact that it still uses wood on the frame of its cars. The company hasn’t debuted a new car in a long time now, but the Plus Six is one of its coolest yet. The car gets the BMW’s B58 turbocharged engine. That’s the same that’s in the new Supra.

In the Morgan, the engine makes a strong 335 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Mated to the engine is a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle can do a 0 to 62 mph run in a sprite 4.2 seconds and tops out at 166 mph. While some of the methods Morgan uses to build its cars are antiquated, those performance numbers certainly are not.

The car does utilize some modern design technology outside of its straight-six engine. The car uses aluminum which helps keep weight down. If you’re thinking aluminum is sacrilegious for a company that’s known for wooden frames, don’t worry. There’s still plenty of wood here. The wooden and aluminum structure of the car is what keeps it to a healthy 2,369 lbs. Morgan calls this new architecture the CX.

On top of that architecture, rests a body with all the vintage styling you could ever want. I’m not sure why more car companies don’t adopt this type of styling because it looks fantastic. The interior is also styled like you’d expect a Morgan to be, though it does feature an obvious BMW gear selector pulled straight out of the company’s parts bin. That’s the only major disappointment we see.

Morgan will build somewhere around 300 of the Plus Six each year. If this car scratches you right where you itch, it’ll cost you $102,668, which sounds reasonable for something so unique.

BAIC’s Arcfox GT Comes in a Track Version and a Street Version

Made in China to Go Really Fast

BAIC’s Arcfox GT is no joke of an electric supercar. It’s one of many supercars at the Geneva Motor Show, but the company has big plans for its electric beast. The company sells both a street and track version of the car and wants to expand globally with the vehicle. The Arcfox GT and another vehicle were showed off at the Geneva Motor Show, and it looks like a winner.

Both versions of the car are crazy fast and both versions get an all-electric powertrain. The street version provides 1,005 hp via four electric motors. It also features a super lightweight construction and can do a 0-62 mph run in just 2.59 seconds.

The track version? Yep, it’s even more powerful and faster. It makes a whopping 1,609 hp from a similar setup. We couldn’t find a 0 to 62 mph time on the company’s website, but we assume with that much more power, it’d have to be faster than the street version of the car.

BIAC Arcfox

BIAC Arcfox

“Arcfox is a beam of light that the BAIC Group presents to the world with its innovation and this beam of light is illuminating the way for us to move forward,” said company chairman Mr. Heyi Xu.

The company also debuted a crossover SUV vehicle at the show, so we assume BAIC Group plans to expand to regular consumer vehicle’s, too. It will be interesting to see how this vehicle and BIAC Group progresses and if it can successfully break out of China and onto the world stage.

Zenvo Automotive Brings the TSR-S Hypercar to Geneva

The Danish Car Company Returns With a Winner

Zenvo Automotive brought its car called the TSR-S to the Geneva Motor Show to be showcased alongside all of the other jaw-dropping reveals that have happened over the last day or so. The track-focused car was showcased in a Grotta Azzura blue livery. It’s a seriously beautiful machine and packs plenty of power to back it up.

The TSR-S comes with a twin-supercharged 5.8-liter V8 engine that produces a whopping 1,177 hp and a neck-wrenching 811 lb-ft of torque. Mated to that insane engine is a seven-speed transmission with paddle shifters. That combination is good for a 0 to 60 mph time of just 2.8 seconds. The car can make it to 124 mph in just 6.8 seconds. Zenvo thought it best to electronically limit the car’s top speed to 202 mph.

[embedded content]

The engine isn’t the only thing about this car worth taking note. The hypercar also has what’s called a Zentripetal Wing. The wing can act as an air brake, and it can also help in the corners thanks to its multi-axis function. “Like all our cars, the Zenvo TSR-S is 100% Danish-designed and hand-built in an extremely limited number,” said marketing director Peter van Rooy.

Production of the car is currently underway. Unfortunately, Zenvo only plans to build five models per year. The company did not name the price for this car, but we expect it to be quite expensive.
