Rimac still looking to buy Bugatti?

We first heard about a Bugatti takeover back in September 2020, the German Manager Magazin published an article about Rimac making an announcement within weeks of them taking over Bugatti … but that didn’t materialize apparently, neither did the bid of $11.5 billion on Automobili Lamborghini SpA a while ago by a Swiss investment group.

In March 2021 Mate Rimac, CEO of his own, Croatian carmaker, confirmed he was working closely together with Porsche to obtain a strategic investment from Porsche into Rimac, up to $181,000,000, which might mean Porsche obtains a large part of Rimac, but Mate Rimac emphasizes that his company will remain independent, and Porsche will never own 50% of the company … the rumor now is that Mate Rimac holds onto 55% of the shares, while Porsche might obtain the remaining 45%.

But today the same German Manager Magazin once again publishes a report that states Rimac is ready to take over Bugatti from the VW group, with the help of Porsche, and that’s not even the entire story this time … renowned Reuters actually cites Manager Magazin in saying Rimac has plans to go public next year, putting shares on the stock market in an attempt to reach a massive $6 billion valuation.

Now, once again it seems things are being stirred up in the hypercar market, not only does Mate Rimac have the ultimate all-electric hypercar in the new Nevera, but that car seems to be setting the benchmark for all the other hypercar builders out there …

Record setting Porsche Cayenne

The official unveiling hasn’t happened yet, but Porsche has been developing a high-performance version of their successful Porsche Cayenne SUV over the last months, and the engineers took a slightly camouflaged development prototype to the famous ‘Green Hell’, also known as the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany … to set a record.

And they achieved just that, the new 2022 Porsche Performance Cayenne managed to set the world record in the “SUV, off-road vehicle, van, pick-up” category with an amazing time of 7:38.925 minutes to complete an entire 20.832 km lap on this famous German track, behind the wheel was official Porsche test driver Lars Kern.

“Over the first few meters of the Nordschleife in this Cayenne, you’re tempted to turn around to make sure that you’re really sitting in a spacious SUV. Its high steering precision and stoically stable rear axle gave me a lot of confidence in the Hatzenbach section,” said Lars Kern, who accompanied long periods of the car’s development.

“This Cayenne model is a top performer. During its development, we focused on exceptional on-road performance. Our record-breaking Cayenne is based on the Cayenne Turbo Coupé, though more systematically designed for maximum longitudinal and lateral dynamics” according to Stefan Weckbach, Vice President Product Line Cayenne. “Its record time on the Nordschleife confirms the dynamic capabilities of our new performance SUV. Furthermore, it’s a typical Cayenne all-rounder, providing a high degree of driving comfort and everyday utility.”

The record attempt at the Nürburgring Nordschleife has been ‘notarized’, the notary public also confirmed this to be a series production model with only minor changes, and those have been installed to protect the driver, like a roll cage and a racing seat, for the record-setting lap the lightly camouflaged Porsche SUV had 22-inch Pirelli P Zero Cora tires fitted that have been developed specifically for this Cayenne version, and these will also be fitted as standard on the production car that will be unveiled soon.

Remember the spy shots of a Lamborghini Hurácan STO on the same track a few weeks ago that caused controversy because onlookers deemed it a Super Trofeo race car with an STO body instead, but if you look closer at the video Lamborghini published, they also had a Urus on the track at that time … will Lamborghini try to set an even better record in the “SUV, off-road vehicle, van, pick-up” category? Only time will tell.

For now, take a look at the official video posted by Porsche on ‘New Performance Cayenne Sets Nürburgring Record’ below:

Brabus Rocket 900: A $600k G63 AMG Limited to 25 Cars Worldwide

Brabus has officially unveiled a new Brabus 900 Rocket Edition this time based on the 2021 Mercedes-AMG G63 – the first G-wagon based Brabus Rocket.

The Brabus 900 Rocket edition is powered by a V8 twin-turbo engine that produces 300hp than the stock engine thanks to a myriad of changes that include increased engine displacement. The new powerplant was enlarged from 4.0 liters to 4.5 liters, the V8 twin-turbo now produces 900hp at a low 6,200rpm and 1,250 Nm at a low 2,900 rpm. In the Brabus 900 Rocket Edition, the peak torque is electronically limited to 1,050 Nm.

Additionally, the new Brabus 900 Rocket Edition weighs more than 2.5 tons but the acceleration from 0-100km/h is easily achieved in just 3.7 seconds while the top speed is limited to 280km/h to protect the tires from wearing out. The speedometer scale of the vehicle is 300km/h.

Additionally, the new turbocharging system also increases the power of the engine, the special turbochargers with large compressor unit and core assembly with reinforced axial bearings deliver a maximum boost pressure of 1.4 bar. When lifting off the throttle, the two Brabus BoostXtra valves produce a blow-off noise.

The vehicle has been equipped with a RAM-AIR intake system integrated into the exposed carbon radiator grille to ensure sufficient air is distributed into the engine. The fuel supply has also been adapted with special high-pressure pumps. The Brabus engine cover has been finished in red carbon fibre.

In addition, the new Brabus 900 Rocket Edition also features larger downpipes and metal catalysts, high-performance exhaust system with actively controlled exhaust valves for changing the exhaust note and two side pipes at the front of the rear wheels on each side of the car for a sporty appearance.

A Brabus Widestar widebody version has been developed exclusively for the Brabus 900 Rocket Edition, the version adds sporty highlights with additional exposed carbon elements that include; a front spoiler with side flaps on both side, a radiator grille with RAM-AIR intakes, Rocket Startup Glow and an illuminated Rocket logo. Furthermore, the carbon fibre trim elements for the Widestart widebody, the fender flares on the front and rear axle, the sporty rear wing and the Brabus diffuser on the rear fascia are also new.

The widebody conversion makes the vehicle appear massive and increases the size by 10cm wider compared to the production car. The air intakes, the outlets on the rear of all flares, the top piece of the hood and the trim panels on the rear panels are all made from carbon fibre elements and have been finished in a glossy coating. A high-tech compound has also been used on the side mirror housing, the trim strips and the door handle. The interior also features a Brabus Light carpet on both sides of the vehicle to illuminate the ground for safe entry and exit when its dark.

The vehicle has been fitted with a set of 24 inch Monoblock Z ‘Platinum Edition’ alloy wheels combined with high-tech street tires. The front axle consists of 10Jx24 wheels with 295/30 ZR 24 tires whereas the rear axle uses 12Jx24 with 355/25 ZR 24 tires.

The interior features an overhead console with time, temperature and speed to keep the rear passengers informed, the two bucket seats in the rear feature various comfort functions including adjustments, memory, seat ventilation and heating to replace the bench seating. The center console at the rear is finished in leather to match the interior and also features a refrigerator compartment, two cup holders for warming or cooling the drinks and also serves as a comfortable armrest.

In addition, the interior of the Brabus 900 Rocket Edition features a black leather design finish, crest-shaped quilting on the seats, trim elements and footwells in leather and top stitchings finished in red yarns. The cockpit features 206 elements and all of them feature ‘Rocket Red’ glazing. Ambient lighting for the air vents is also an available option offered by Brabus.

The Brabus 900 Rocket edition is limited to just 25 units, the first 10 units are to be delivered before the end of year and the price starts at 480, 059 euros.

Rimac reportedly planning stock IPO as it draws closer to Bugatti

FRANKFURT — Croatian electric hypercar maker Rimac is exploring several options for its future, a spokesperson for the group said in response to a report outlining plans for an initial public offering next year.

Germany’s Manager Magazin reported that Rimac, in which Volkswagen’s Porsche unit owns a 24% stake, was planning an IPO in 2022 at a valuation of 5 billion euros ($6.1 billion), without disclosing where it obtained the information.

“As for going public, we’re considering different options, but it hasn’t been decided which direction we’ll go in,” the Rimac spokesperson said.

Rimac has developed an electric supercar platform which it supplies to other carmakers, including Automobili Pininfarina.

It is currently working on a strategic partnership with Volkswagen unit Bugatti, which will likely result in a joint venture between Porsche and Rimac, with Porsche as a minority partner, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess said in March.

“The future of Bugatti is an issue that will be decided on a group level,” Porsche said in a statement, declining to comment further.

Porsche boss Oliver Blume earlier this year said intense discussions on Bugatti’s future were ongoing and that Rimac could play a role as the brands were a good technological fit, adding that a decision was expected in the first half of 2021.

Earlier this month, Rimac revealed the 1,914-horsepower Rimac Nevera.

A new Bianco Fuji Ferrari LaFerrari has been listed for sale by a German tuning company known as Keyvany. The car still has the factory mileage it had when it was delivered new in Germany.

Finished in a unique Bianco Fuji exterior (white) over black alcantara interior and red seams, the hypercar comes with a checkbook that has been maintained since its delivery. Meaning service was done regardless of its undriven status during its life in storage. The LaFerrari coupe production ended in 2016 just before the Aperta production commenced. This particular car has only had one owner and has remained in Germany ever since it was delivered. Only 500 LaFerrari coupes were made between 2014 and 2016, and only a handful of them were finished in Bianco Fuji, with most buyers opting for the regular Rosso Corsa finish.

The Touring Package is back at Porsche

A lot of people love a supercar with an impressive stance, and preferably one or more wing, the bigger the better, they create downforce at speed, and let’s face it, they look cool, even standing still … but some clients want to buy a car with the utmost performance, but don’t want to attract too much attention … so Porsche came up with their ‘Touring Package’, an option that delivers a top of the line supercar, but with a more subdued exterior, perfect for those that love understatement, but still want all the power possible.

The seventh edition of the famous Porsche 911 GT3 can now be ordered with the subtle Touring Package option, and while the car comes with the six-speed GT sports manual gearbox as standard, there is a no-cost option to have the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission for the first time in combination with the Touring Package.

At first glance, you might think the only difference between a Porsche 911 GT3 and a GT3 Touring is that massive rear wing that’s been removed on the latter, and that is surely the first thing you notice, but the Touring Package is a little more elaborate than that.

To offer the required downforce at speed Porsche integrated an adjustable rear wing in the Touring Package, that extends when required, with 510 PS (375 kW) and an overall weight of only 1,418 kgs, you’ll need all the downforce you can get at the speeds these Porsche 911 GT3 can reach.

But that’s not all, with the Touring Package you also get high gloss aluminum window trim on the sides, and silver exhaust tips, whereas those on the regular GT3 are finished in black, while the entire front bumper is color-coded to the rest of the car when you opt for the ‘Touring’, which she will proudly but discretely show at the rear.

On the inside, there are some bespoke options only available with the Touring Package too, like extended black leather that makes the cabin very elegant, while the front of the dashboard and the upper side sections of the doors come with a special embossing exclusive to the Touring Package.
Porsche already had a Touring option back in 1973, on the famous 911 Carrera RS, one of the most highly sought-after Porsche today, it would take Porsche until 2017 to revive this option on the 911 GT3 Type 991 … and clients loved it so much, they have kept it on the options list ever since.

2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring Revealed – PDK Now Available

The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring has been revealed officially, like the previous GT3 Touring the model comes with a rear wing delete to reduce drag while emphasizing on GT comfort. The necessary downforce is now generated by an extending rear spoiler that retracts automatically.

The new Porsche 992 GT3 Touring will share the same price tag with its winged counterpart, meaning the Touring Package is a no cost option. Prices start at 170,969 euros including VAT in Germany, and for the first time ever the Touring Package will now offer PDK – also as a no cost option. A six speed manual transmission will be offered as standard.

The 4.0L flat six engine was lifted from the GT3 R race car, here it produces 510hp and 470nm of torque. Multiple other parts were taken from Porsche’s GT racing cars including the double-wishbone front suspension and the rear diffuser. Buyers of the new GT3 Touring will get a unique logo on the rear lid grille that covers the engine and a chronograph that uses the flyback function movement. The winding rotors on this new chronograph are identical to the wheels of the car.

Thanks to the extensive use of lightweight materials, the new GT3 Touring only weighs 1,418 kg with the manual transmission and 1,435 kg with the optional PDK gearbox. The hood is made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastics while forged alloy wheels and lightweight windows help keep the weight down further.

Inside the cabin, a track screen has been incorporated for the first time ever. It will only display key information at the touch of a button, this info includes tire and oil pressure, oil and coolant temperature and fuel tank level. This is especially useful to drivers who take part in track days regularly.

Two unique Bugatti EB110s

Back in the early 90s, the Bugatti EB110 was the supercar to get, debuted specifically on September 15th, 1991 which happens to be company founder Ettore Bugatti’s 110th birthday, but it would take until the 1992 Geneva Motor Show to get the complete view of what this car was all about:  a quad-turbocharged 3.5-liter V12 with 603 hp (449-kilowatt) called the EB110 Super Sport (or, SS) was unveiled.

Compared to the Bugatti EB110 GT the Super Sport evolution was 150 kg lighter and packed 60 more horsepower which resulted in a top speed of 216 mph in 1992, one of the most famous cars ever was a yellow Bugatti EB110 SS purchased by Formula One legend Michael Schumacher in 1992, and while only 39 EB110 SS were built (of a rumored 150 total EB110), it isn’t the rarest version in the world of this Nineties supercar.

That honor goes to a blue EB110S LM and a silver EB110S SC GTS-1 … two bespoke race cars built by Bugatti and based on the EB110 SS, only one of each was ever made, making each one unique on her own because they were built with a different purpose in mind. The blue car was specifically built for Le Mans, hence the EB110 LM naming, and she did enter the 1994 edition of the 24h of Le Mans, with a rumored power output of more than 700 Ps.

The EB110S LM was a strong competitor during the 1994 24h of Le Mans, which happened to mark the 55th anniversary of the last time Bugatti took the win at this famous endurance race, it wasn’t an effortless race, a total of five turbos had to be replaced, and they even had to cope with a fuel leak, but towards the end of the 24 hours it looked like this traditional Bugatti Blue race car would reach a top-five spot … until 4 minutes before the chequered flag a blown tire decided otherwise and the EB110S LM had to retire.

Still, the car drew the attention of Gildo Pallanca-Pastor who ordered three race cars from Bugatti for his Monaco Racing Team,  this became the Bugatti EB110 Sport Competizione, or EB110S SC GTS-1 as it was officially called, the race car was built over a period of six months in 1995, initial plans were to build three units, but due to financial difficulties and supplier issues only one of these lightweight, reconceptualized, and stupendously fast EB110 race cars was built for entry into IMSA racing and the BPR Global GT Series on special order by Gildo Pallanca-Pastor.

From mid-1995 Gildo Pallanca-Pastor entered official races with his bespoke EB110 SC, and the car performed well, fifth-place at Watkins Glen and sixth-in-class at Sears Point before a promising Daytona 24 Hours race turned into a nightmare due to transmission issues, then an issue with spare parts started to creep up, the supercar market started falling apart in 1995, and demand for new Bugatti EB110 GT or SS swindled, eventually to such a degree, Artioli could no longer sustain the losses and Bugatti was declared bankrupt in September 1995, at that time this silver EB110 SC was located at the factory for service, and it got confiscated as an asset by the curators handling the bankruptcy.

Fortunately, Gildo Pallanca-Pastor managed to get his car back and took it to Daytona in January 1996, but his intention was Le Mans, so prepared by entering a race in Dijon, France, on June 8 and 9 where he managed an impressive fourth place during training while for his first race in the EB110 SC, Pallanca-Pastor reached third place overall. But his luck ran out in the second race, a crash meant the Bugatti EB110 SC had to retire the race, they didn’t have enough spare parts to repair the car, even to the point he couldn’t qualify for the 1995 24h of Le Mans a week later, supply of Bugatti parts simply dried up completely at that point.

The last official, factory-built EB110 race car wouldn’t compete again for the next 25 years, but the car was maintained all the time, and when Gildo Pallanca-Pastor sold her a few years after her retirement to a Bugatti enthusiast, the latter kept the car in good condition, but away from the race track … only to return to Dyon in 2021 for a photo shoot of this unique Sport Competizione version of the Bugatti EB110.

Recently these two legendary Bugatti race cars were side by side for the first time in many years, both were taken to H.R.Owen Bugatti for their annual maintenance, the EB110S LM still in her 1994 Le Mans 24 Hours livery sits alongside the silver EB110S SC GTS-1 that competed in the North American WSC GT races … these are the only factory official Bugatti EB110 race cars that competed in 1994, 1995 and 1996, truly a piece of automotive history, both of which are priceless collection items today.

Rarest ABT ever sold out

We’ve only published the article on the release of the limited edition Johann Abt Signature Edition a few days ago, the car is based on the amazing Audi RS6, of which only 64 units would be built to celebrate the 125th anniversary of ABT Sportsline GmbH, and today the CEO Hans-Jürgen Abt already announces this celebration model is already sold out, all of the 64 units are spoken for in a matter of days.

Today ABT Sportsline GmbH is a globally recognized tuning company, but it all started back in 1896 when Johann Abt laid the foundation for the success, and as an homage, each of the 64 units of the 800 hp Johann Abt Signature Edition will come with a small part of the actual anvil Johann used to form metal on back in 1896 and the years after that before machines took over this method, keeping in mind many artisans still use what is known as the ‘English wheel’ to form metal parts to this date.

The first customer will be receiving his (or her) Johann Abt Signature Edition in July already, the car seen on these photos is the production prototype and comes with a plaque stating ‘0 of 64’, over the next ten months or so ABT will be building 6 of these individual conversions per month due to the extreme level of complexity needed to put together these high-power ‘wagons’, one motorsport mechanic will oversee the process from start to finish.

Land Rover Defender Gets New Look from Startech

Startech has redesigned the new Land Rover Defender with a sporty bodywork developed for on-road driving, 23 inch tailor-made wheels and an exclusive refined interior. All the bodywork elements have been manufactured in OEM quality from ABS plastics.

The company upgraded the front bumper of the Defender with a three-piece front spoiler whose center section takes visual cues from a skid plate with two vertical ribs. The two side sections have been shaped to ensure the front-axle lift force is reduced when the vehicle is at high speeds. The rear spoiler extending from the roof to the rear is their aerodynamic counterpart.

A Startech tailor-made cover for the rear door is available to customers who do not like the externally mounted spare at the back. The accessory conceals the mounting points when the spare together with the brackets have been removed. Additionally, the Startech trim panel features the contour of the Union Jack, the British national flag. The accessory is also available in the colors of the flag as an option.

The new Defender has been fitted with king-sized Monostar E wheels of size 10.5Jx22 at the front and rear axle combined with the largest TUV-certified YOKOHAMA street tires of size 305/35 R 23. The hub covers of the wheels have been designed like a centre lock to emphasize the sporty appearance of the alloys and the 10 pairs of spokes.

The Chassis of the new Defender has been upgraded to further boost the handling qualities of the tires. Startech engineers devised a special control module for the standard air suspension, the control module enables the driver to lower the ride height of the vehicle up to 35mm (lower than standard configurations) when on-road mode is activated from the cockpit.

The company also offers exclusive interior options ranging from red, blue or black anodized sets of bolts to replace the standard bolts and high-quality paint finish in various colors to replace the standard silver aluminium panels on the door trims, dashboard and the centre console. A list of exclusive accessories ranges from floor mats to aluminium pedals and footrest.

Startech also offers three tailor-made interior packages consisting of the finest leather and Alcantara in many colors, patterns and design to further enhance the interior as well as high-quality painting of all ex-factory silver or matt black bodywork components.

Super Hatch Territory: 2022 Audi RS3 to Launch in July, Rivals A45 S AMG

During a briefing on the company’s R and RS models, Audi released images of the upcoming Audi RS3 Sportback and Sedan. The official launch will take place in July and while no information on the cars was dished out, we expect the new model to usher in a new level of performance while retaining the popular 5-cylinder engine.

The outgoing RS3 model stood out as the most powerful hothatch on the market up until the launch of AMG’s A45 S. The 2017 facelift brought increased power to the 5 pot engine, a total of 395hp and 480nm of torque. This was a significant increase from the pre-facelift models that had an output of 362hp and 465nm of torque.

With the super hatch market leveling around the 400hp mark, we expect the new RS3 Sportback and Sedan to have an output within that range. 400hp on the lower end and 430hp on the higher end, 480-500nm of torque is expected.

An ultra-rare Ferrari J50 is for sale for $3.6 million

One of the rarest modern Ferraris is now up for sale for a cool $3.6 million. The J50, as the name implies, is one of just 10 built to commemorate Ferrari’s 50th anniversary in Japan. Though based on the 488 Spider, the J50 boasts unique styling and extra horsepower.

The J50 debuted in 2016 to mark 50 years since the first Ferrari made landfall in Japan, a privately imported 275 GTB. Needless to say, all 10 examples of the J50 were spoken for by the time the car made its official debut at the National Art Center in Tokyo. Each one was finished in the exterior and interior color choices of their respective owners.

The car was the first of the Ferrari Fuoriserie (Italian for “custom-built”), which includes limited-run cars like the F60 America. Beneath the stunning bespoke bodywork lies a 488 Spider with an almost 20-horsepower bump from its 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8, for a total of 681 horsepower. The transmission remains a seven-speed DCT.

The bodywork has unique features such as two carbon fiber air channels on the hood, a polycarbonate clear engine cover, and a rear diffuser design inspired by a jet engine afterburner. The sleek design is at once futuristic and traditional, a contrast to the curvy 488 that it’s based on. It’s said to have been inspired by 1970s and 1980s Ferrari road cars, emphasizing lowness and highlighting qualities prized by Japanese clientele — nimbleness and handling — over outright horsepower. It won Germany’s coveted Red Dot design award upon launch.

After the clients finalized their personalization options, the cars were built in Maranello, and deliveries began in 2017. The particular example is listed for sale at Tokyo’s official Ferrari dealer, is being listed as a 2019 model and is offered at $3.6 million, a slight bump over the $2.7 to $3.3 million cost, depending on customization level, when new. It’s almost like new, too, having clocked just 430 miles.

Though the black-on-black example does not do the design justice, with so few examples made, this just might be the only opportunity to buy one in the foreseeable future.

At this moment there is an auction running on BringATrailer for a 2019 Ford GT, and with six days still remaining on the auction, the current bid is already a healthy $1,000,000 … this black Ford GT is a seven-figure car, and this price might still go up over the next six days … it is clear the supercar market is still on a high, and prices for special, desirable cars are going strong.

On the other hand, this isn’t just another 2019 Ford GT, chassis 2FAGP9CW3KH200017 has covered only 500 miles since the owner acquired her brand new from Kalispell Ford of Kalispell, Montana, where she was configured as a ‘special-order’, $40,000 paint option of matte black paint with alloy overtop stripes, for the interior the owner went with a combination of black and orange for the ‘Launch Control’ interior.

Power comes from the 3.5-Liter EcoBoost V6 with twin-turbochargers with an output of 647 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque going to the rear wheels only through a Getrag seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle to a $15,000 set of carbon fiber 20-inch wheels that even come with titanium lug nuts and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, 245/35 at the front and 325/30 at the rear, covering orange-finished, six-piston Brembo calipers with 15.5” carbon-ceramic discs up front, and four-piston rear calipers with 14.1” discs.

Additional specifications on this specific Ford GT include a lightweight Gorilla Glass windshield, butterfly doors, the retractable active rear wing, matte carbon-fiber exterior trim, and a rear diffuser. The entire matte black paint has been wrapped in Xpel paint protection film to keep that non-gloss paint in perfect condition for years.

The window sticker is still with this rare supercar, and it clearly shows the factory colors, options, and standard equipment. It also shows delivery to Kalispell Ford in Montana and a total MSRP of $612,695, in six days we’ll be able to see how much this low-mileage example of the impressive Ford GT will change owners for.
