Verdict: Mido has made some form of the Commander continuously from 1959, and this year to celebrate the brand’s 100th anniversary, it’s digging into its archives and bringing back a version of the watch from 1979. The new Commander Shade is unapologetically a tribute to some of the bold watch design from the era, and an overall accurate reinterpretation of the original. At 37mm in diameter, it’s on par with the watch sizes of the time, and an integrated Milanese mesh bracelet is both comfortable and a solid ’70s throwback. The brushed, gradient dial is also an incredible addition as well.

Who It’s For: You have to really appreciate the styling of watches from the ’70s to really “get” the design choices here, so while most enthusiasts will find the watch to be divisive, we’re sure it’ll find a niche audience of enthusiasts who love that sort of thing.
