That status quo in the world of spirits is releases upon releases upon releases — there’s new bottles from small and big brands releasing on a near-daily clip. Some are so limited you’re better off rolling your eyes and moving on, some are so, well, boring, you’re better off reaching for old faithful at the liquor store instead of trying something new. All made available this summer, here are three whiskeys we’re actually excited about drinking.
Basil Hayden’s Two by Two Rye
Basil Hayden’s latest is a blend of two Kentucky straight bourbons and two Kentucky straight rye whiskies. The brand hopes drinkers more wary of rye (or bourbon, I guess) see it as a gateway bottle to enjoying either. The bottle is available as of today nationwide at an SRP of $45.
Nikka From the Barrel
Nikka Whisky Distilling Company’s From the Barrel bottle has been a smash hit in Japan and Europe for years but, until June of this year, was unavailable in the U.S. The Whiskey Wash reported the bottle is the best-selling Japanese whisky outside of Japan. It’s a high ABV (51 percent), wildly popular, relatively affordable whisky from one of the two biggest names in Japanese spirits.
The Macallan Edition No. 4
In short, the Macallan Edition series of bottles is the distiller showing off how good its whisky makers are. As it turns out, they’re pretty good. The fourth installment was released in celebration of the famed Scotch maker’s tricked-out new distillery and spent time in seven different barrels from Spain, the U.S. and Scotland.
