Upshot: The Mad River TR is a brand new sneaker for Saucony that comes with a build-it-yourself element. The sneaker itself features an Everun midsole and sleek-looking upper with a fast lacing Boa-system, but the actual standout feature is the outsole. In pictures, the side of the outsole looks different, and when you zoom in on the base, you can make out marked circles with drill bit numbers, so that you can take your DIY habit to the roads. You can add metal stud, open up holes for drainage or even push in some spikes. Trails across the country vary, so it makes sense that Saucony wants to help runners create their own rides.
Who It’s For: Trail runners who would like to modify their outsoles and athletes who love DIY projects should check these out.
Insight: When we first saw this trail running beast back at The Running Event, it was one of the strongest standouts from the show. While Saucony is also updating its popular Liberty ISO 2 and Hurricane ISO 5 sneakers, the new pacemaker will be the Mad River. Whether the trails near you end up extremely muddy in the summer or dusty during the winter or anything in between, there’s an option for you mold the Mad River TR into a shoe that can tackle all those elements. Trail runners will find this shoe will fulfill all their needs.
