Nowadays, the Porsche 911 is virtually universal in its appeal. However, that wasn’t always the case.

In fact, when Porsche first introduced the model as a replacement for its aging 356, it was so concerned about turning away customers because of the price tag that it cooked up a more affordable alternative powered by a 1.6-liter flat-four.

It’s called the 912, and though it went largely overlooked for many years — even among the Porsche crowd — it’s now finally getting the attention it deserves thanks to restomods like this sleek example from Kamm Manufaktur.

One for the road

Now, this isn’t Kamm’s first rodeo. The Hungarian outfit specializes in restomodding the 912, and it has previously transformed the classic Porsche into a modern performance car à la Singer by way of upgrades such as carbon fiber body panels and extra horsepower under the hood.

However, the latest release — the 912T — is one that prioritizes long-distance enjoyment over all-out performance. Or, as Kamm puts it, “timeless touring with spirit.”
