Remo+, a smart security startup, just announced a new video doorbell with a really attractive price tag. The RemoBell S costs just $99, which undercuts most other video doorbells on the market by some margin. For example, the Nest Hello costs $199. And the Ring Video Doorbell 2 and the Ring Video Doorbell Pro cost $169 and $200, respectively.
It’s not just about price with the RemoBell S. The video doorbell comes with another super unique feature: free video storage for three days. Most other smart security cameras and video doorbells require you to pay for cloud storage longer than 24 hours — Ring’s cloud storage starts at $3/month and Nest starts at $5/month — so the fact that Remo+’s newest video doorbell will store up to 72 hours of footage for free is a big deal.
The RemoBell S is decked out with a lot of the same features that other smart doorbells have, too, including the ability to record 1080p HD video, two-way talk, 24/7 live streaming via a companion app, push notifications and night vision. Up to five people can have access to the RemoBell S video doorbell and check in on its live feed. It’s also compatible with Alexa, Google Home and IFTTT, so you shouldn’t have an issue integrating into your existing smart home.
As for trade-offs? There are two that jump out, which may or may not make a difference to some homeowners. First, the RemoBell S relies on a hardwire connection (no batteries) and uses your existing doorbell’s wires. It won’t be difficult to install, but there’s wire work involved. Remo+ is a startup company and there’s a risk that the devices you buy won’t be supported for long; for example, Lighthouse went bankrupt and its smart cameras don’t work anymore.
The RemoBell S is available now on the company’s website.
