While providing no functional value (much like many watch complications, if we’re being honest), the Earth phase depicts the view of our planet’s surface as seen from the Moon. It is essentially a moon phase from the reverse perspective.

Snoopy and his level-headed sidekick, Woodstock, gaze up at the novel complication while sitting on the lunar surface in space suits. This image is pulled from a 1969 comic strip in which Snoopy imagines himself beating NASA, the Russians and the cat next door to the moon.

The image features a hidden message written in lume that only appears in the dark. It is a thought bubble exclaiming, “I beat everybody,” floating in the blank space between the friends and the Earth phase window. The same message appears on the caseback underneath the battery panel.

Snoopy’s brag glows in the same blue lume as the Earth in the window, while the central hands and hour markers glow green.

Admittedly, the difference between each entry in the Mission to Earthphase Moonshine Gold series is even less significant than the Mission to Moonshine Gold references.

However, this ongoing series, with potentially nine more releases to come, is making it easier for fans to access one of Swatch’s coolest complications, which no other watchmaker has duplicated.
