Jaguar claims its XE SV Project 8 crushed a Nürburgring sedan lap record. The time? A blistering 7:21.23. Reaching that speed is certifiably quick, to be sure — it beats the beastly Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio by 11 seconds. And some of our favorite track weapons are only slightly quicker. A Corvette Z06, for instance, does the job in 7:13. But there’s an asterisk to this record because the Project 8 is a production intent spec vehicle — not a production car. Will the production model be any slower? Jaguar isn’t saying.

Regardless, once this monster hits the streets, it’ll still be plenty quick. Jaguar says its mission was to create the most track-focused car in the company’s history. The production model will deliver 592 hp, reach 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and top out at 200 mph.

The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 will be available next year in the U.S., and we’ll get just 300 of them. The bad news? It’ll retail for an eye-watering $187,500.
