Konami TurboGrafx-16 Mini Game System

As it stands right now, the retro gaming scene has no shortage of classic home consoles available from various brands. Nintendo is credited for kick-starting the trend of recreating iconic game systems of our childhood. The craze all started with the NES Classic Edition, which was then shortly followed by Super Nintendo Classic Edition. Likewise, Sony is in the game with the PlayStation Classic, while Sega offers the Genesis Mini. SNK, on the other hand, is going the arcade route with the NEOGEO Mini. Now the stage is open for another brand to join in on the fun with the Konami TurboGrafx-16 Mini console.

It looks like all the major players in the gaming industry are resurrecting their vintage game systems in style. We believe that the old-school gamers want a break from all the cutting-edge graphics and gameplay of current-generation systems. Konami gives us a chance to take people on a nostalgia trip to the 1980s with the TurboGrafx-16 Mini.

To make sure that this retro game system is compatible with modern technology, it features an HDMI port. To make it look even more authentic, users can tweak the settings to change to display aspect ratio and even replicate the scanlines of a CRT TV. Moreover, with the optional multitap, you can play with up to five players simultaneously. Don’t let interruptions spoil your progress, because the Quick Save function lets you pick up where you left off. The Konami TurboGrafx-16 Mini launches soon with six games on board and more on the way.

Get Cranking With The Panic Playdate Handheld Game System

Right now, portable gaming is available on a bunch of devices. You have smartphones, tablets, the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 3DS. While the Sony PlayStation Vita is making its exit, another one is rising up to take its place. The Panic Playdate is one interesting gadget that strangely looks like the first-generation Nintendo Game Boy. However, look closely and you’ll notice that it comes with a built-in hand crank on one side.

Some of you might recognize the brand as the publisher of a few indie games. Their collaboration with Campo Santo gave us Firewatch, which won various awards for different categories. Now, it is working with House House on Untilted Goose Game, an upcoming puzzle game for Windows, Mac, and the Nintendo Switch.

The bright yellow color of the Playdate immediately draws your attention. It bears a resemblance to the third-generation Apple iPod Nano but is slightly bigger. It sports 2.7-inch monochromatic screen, a d-pad, two face buttons, and the hand crank that slots into the side. We also noticed a single front-firing speaker on the right side of its display.

Other notable features include a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a custom operating system. As for the software, the Panic Playdate will be relying on a subscription service, which they’re calling a season of games. The only one on preview is Crankin’s Time Travel Adventure, which lets you control the flow of time using the hand crank. Keita Takahashi, the creator of the super-popular Katamari Damacy, is helming the development. We can’t wait to see how future games will integrate this quirky control system into their games.

Love Hulten PYUA retro console

Now is a great time to be a gamer—especially with the vast number of platforms that are currently available. Yet, some of us yearn to experience the games that we’ve played while growing up. Video game companies understand that there’s a wave of nostalgia floating around and plan to capitalize on the demand. Nothing beats being able to play some of the older games again, so if you’re feeling the urge to revisit your childhood, the Love Hulten PYUA retro console is a cool way to do so.

We know that Nintendo already released the NES Classic Edition and SNES Classic Edition mini consoles. Meanwhile, SNK has the NEOGEO mini and Sony also plans to release the PlayStation Classic soon. These are all great alternatives, but the pre-installed games are somewhat limited. The Love Hulten PYUA lets us play our NES and Famicom cartridges—provided you still have some lying around. It’s a perfect device for collectors who want to take their old software for a spin.

The design of the Love Hulten PYUA is certainly a throwback to the good old days. The package includes the console with two slots to accommodate both NES and Famicom cartridges. It comes with a glass dome that turns the device into a display case. The old-school experience is completed by a pair of 8bitdo wireless NES controllers. It even includes a wooden storage case that holds up to 20 cartridges. It looks like the perfect time to dust off our collection in storage.
