The A7C Is Sony’s Smallest Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera

Sony just announced the A7C, its newest compact full-frame mirrorless camera and a direct successor to 2018’s Sony A7III. The most notable thing about the Sony A7C is its size — it’s really small.

According to Sony, the A7C is the smallest and lightest full-frame interchangeable lens cameras that the company has ever created. Combined with its big 24-megapixel full-frame sensor, the Sony A7C looks poised to put some real pressure on the APS-C compact cameras (including Sony’s own A6400).

sony a7c

Despite its small size, the A7C comes with a similar features and specs that you’d expect in a Sony full-frame mirrorless camera. It has the same Bionz X processor as the A7III and the company’s ‘real-time tracking’ AF system. It can shoot 4K video up to 30fps. It also has a rangefinger-style body with an electronic viewfinder, just like Sony’s APS-C compact cameras.

Overall, the Sony A7C looks to be a smart repackaging of the A7III. Although you’re most likely going to need a lens like f/2.8 or faster to that full frame advantage. Pair it with a 50mm f/1.4, and it A7C could make an awesome travel camera.

The Sony A7C will cost $1,799 (body-only) or $2,099 with the collapsible 28-60mm F4-5.6 zoom lens, and it will be available this October. Maybe most excitingly, this could also drive down price of the A7III.

4 Files App Features You Should Be Using, But Aren’t

The Files app was introduced with iOS 11 in late 2017 and it has been available on every iPhone and iPad since. It lets you access and organize the various files that you have saved on your iPhone or iPad, in the cloud, or on various external devices, such as a USB flash drives or a portable SSD. That’s right, all your files saved in one convenient app.

The other great thing about the Files app is that it’s compatible with most of the third-party services, like Dropbox, Box, Google Drive and iCloud Drive. This means that if you’ve been using a cloud storage service other than iCloud, you can quickly sync that service and access those various saved files from directly within the Files app on your iPhone. There’s no arduous transition process.

That said, there’s good chance you don’t use the Files app because, well, change is difficult. I promise that if you start using the the Files app, it will help make your digital life a lot more organized.

To use the Files app, first download it from the App Store. Also make sure that your iPhone or iPad is running iOS 13 or iPadOS 13 or higher, respectively.

Learn to use tags — they’re super helpful.

One of the Files app’s best organization tools is its tagging system. You can add a tag to any file and then the Files app with automatically group files that share the same tag. This is ideal for grouping pictures, folders or other documents that share something in common.

The easiest way to add a tag to a file is to long-press on the file until you see a pop-up menu, then select “Tags.” From here you can select one of your existing tags or you can create a new tag. Select “Done” to complete the tagging.

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Connect your most-used services to the Files app.

If you use a third-party service like Dropbox or Google Drive, you’re going to need to give the Files app access to use it. To do this, open the Files app, select the three-dot icon in the top-right corner of your screen, and then select the “Edit.” You should see the various online services that you currently use on your iPhone or iPad. Turn on the service that you want synced.

Once synced, you can move files between your various services within the Files app in a couple ways. The easiest is using the drag-and-drop method — simply long-press on a file and drag — but not every third-party service supports it. You can also long-press a file or folder and then select “Move” or “Copy,” the later of which is a pretty straightforward copy-and-paste method.

Connect an external device.

A new feature coming to the Files app with iOS 13 and iPad 13 is the ability to easily connect and upload files from an external drive, like a USB flash drive, an SD card or an external hard drive, to your Files app. The catch is that you’ll need a dongle, like a Lightning to USB adapter ($29) or Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader ($29).

Once you have the external drive connected to your iPhone or iPad via the adapter, the device should appear in the Files app. You’ll then be able to add, move and organize those files with the other files in your Files app.

Add the Files app widget to your iPhone’s “Today View.”

If you’re just getting started with the Files app, one way to encourage you to use it more — that way you can get more proficient using the app — is for you to add it as a widget to your iPhone’s Today View. The Today View is the screen where all your app shortcuts live, and you can by swiping all the way right from your iPhone’s lock screen (or the first page or your home screen).

To add the Files app to your Today View widget, swipe right to get to your Today View and scroll all the way down and select the “Edit” button at the button. Find the Files app widget and select the plus (+) icon adjacent to it, and then drag the Files app widget to the top of your Today View (using the stacked horizontal line icon). This will allow you to see the most recent accessed files when you’re in the Today View.

The 5 Best New Features Coming to Your Apple Watch

Apple is expected to roll out watchOS 7, the next big software update to the Apple Watch, real soon. (In fact, they might roll it out as soon as tomorrow when the Apple Watch Series 6 is expected to be officially announced.) It’s going to bring new features to existing Apple Watch models, including the Series 3, Series 4, Series 5 and the Series 6(?).

If you have an older Apple Watch model, either a Series 2 or Series 1, it won’t be compatible with watchOS 7. But if you’re envious, this might be the perfect excuse to actually upgrade to a newer Apple Watch.

An all-new Sleep app.

watchos 7

Apple

Sleep tracking has probably the most-requested feature for the Apple Watch and now it’s here. It work basically the same as the third-party sleep tracking apps that have already been available for the Apple Watch, showing you your sleep data for each night, as well as compare it to other nights. The data it collects will integrate with Apple’s Heath app.

Naturally, using sleep tracking is going to drain the battery of your Apple Watch much quicker (which is the biggest reason why Apple hadn’t added it before watchOS 7). To combat this, your Apple Watch will notify you if its battery is below 30 percent and its getting close to your normal bedtime; this will remind put it on the charger so it doesn’t die while you’re sleeping.

More watch faces, more customization.

watchos 7

Apple

Just like how iOS 14 is bringing some radically new customization features to the iPhone, in the form of widgets and the ability to hide Home screen pages, watchOS 7 will bring similar features to the Apple Watch. For the first time on the Apple Watch, watchOS 7 is going to allow you to customize your watch faces — at least a little bit.

There will be a new Photos watch face where you make one of your photos as your default watch face, as well as a Chronograph Pro watch face that has an integrated tachymeter and also gives you the ability to add more complications. WatchOS 7 is going to allow you to quickly access to your most-used Apple Watch apps right from the watch face, too.

Finally, watchOS 7 is going to make it easy for you to share your watch faces with friends and family. Apple claims that you’ll be able to share watch faces via iMessage, email and posting a link online. You’ll also be able to find and download new creative watch faces on the App Store.

A (sort-of) new Fitness app.

watchos 7

Apple

Apple is doing a bit of house keeping and, with iOS 14 and watchOS 7, it is officially renaming the Activity app — from here on out, it’s going to be known as the Fitness app. The new Fitness app will still be the place to go to keep track of your health, fitness and overall wellness, but Apple is giving it a fresh redesign and interface.

Maybe most significantly, the Fitness app is going to add a total of four new workouts. There will be workout options for “Functional Strength Training” and “Core Training,” as well as “Cooldown” workout for right after you finish with your actual workout. Lastly, there will be a “Dance” option to track your dance class workout.

An improved cycling companion.

watchos 7

Apple

The Apple Watch has been able to track your cycling workouts for some time, but watchOS 7 is making the smartwatch an even better companion for cyclists. It’s adding cycling routes and directions to the Maps app on the Apple Watch. Cyclists will be able to search a route and get a reliable cycling route, as well as information like distance and elevation, or if there are bike lanes to use. There’s also the option to add stops along the way, with Maps gaining the ability to add helpful and intuitive detours, in case you want to break up your ride by stopping for coffee or at a friend’s house.

The improved cycling routes and directions feature on the Maps app will be available in “select cities” once watchOS 7 rolls out.

Hand washing advice.

watchos7

Apple

Your Apple Watch will now be able to detect when you’re washing your heads, and it’ll let you know if you’re doing so properly. It’ll be able to detect if you’re washing your hands listening for the sound of a sink or running water. Once it hears it, the Apple Watch will start a timer for 20 second just so you know that you’ve done it for long enough. If you don’t want your Apple Watch telling you to wash your hands (understandably), then you’ll be able to turn off the feature.

Can a Headphone Amp Make Cheap Earbuds Sound Better? An Expert Explains

If you’re wondering if an external headphone amp can make your cheap earbuds, like Apple’s EarPods ($29) or Panasonic RP-TCM125 ErgoFit ($20), sound better — the answer is: probably not. Here’s why:

The job of a headphone amplifier is to “amplify” the normally weak audio signal produced by the source — which in a desktop audio setup, is a laptop of computer — into one that the headphone’s drivers get more out of. Without an amp or a DAC, the headphones wouldn’t be able to play your computer’s audio.

(The digital-to-analog converter, or DAC, is the other vital component that’s usually built into most headphone amps. It converts the digital signal sent from the computer into an analog signal that the headphone amp can actually use. A DAC is only necessary when you have a digital source like a computer or smartphone, as opposed to an analog source like a turntable or CD player.)

However, the headphone amp is just one link in the audio chain and according to Dave Evans, the co-founder of Audioengine, a high-quality amp isn’t going to be able to improve cheap earphones. “You can only improve to the limits of the weakest link in the chain,” Evans explained “If the headphones (or earbuds) have more to give, [a headphone] amp will ‘let them’ give it. But if there’s no more to give, there’s no more to be had.”

If you have a nicer pair of headphones whose been plugging it into your laptop or computer, that’s a different story. Your laptop or desktop already has a built-in headphone amp/DAC, of course, otherwise your headphones wouldn’t work with it — but it’s not every good. “Most built-in amp/DAC combos are inferior simply because of space and cost constraints,” says Evans. “[It’s] not always [the case], but it’s a good rule of thumb.”

The great thing is that if you’re looking for an external headphones amp to upgrade your desktop audio setup, there are a lot of relatively affordable options. There’s the Schiit Audio Magni ($99), Audioengine D1 ($169) or Audioengine N22 ($199), all of which are great headphones amp that cost under $200.

If you’re going to invest in a higher-quality headphone amp to replace the one built into your smartphone or computer, then you’d better wise up and invest in some higher-end headphones or IEMs, as well.

How to Start a Social Media Project from Scratch

Can you imagine modern life without social networking websites? Seems like we all are addicted to social media in some way. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram – all these platforms share the best ideas and have a substantial impact on business, culture, and society. Statistically, Facebook has 2.7 billion active users. But this doesn’t mean this social networking site will last forever.

You still can build a social media platform that will be a strong competitor to modern social media giants. But do you know how you can do that? Can you imagine how to create a social media website that will be popular among users? In this comprehensive post, we’ll share some ideas that might help you organize your thoughts and enter the social media industry with a new solution.

Determine What Type of Social Networking Sites You Need

This industry is trendy and quite promising today. Here are the most popular solutions:

  • Entertaining sites. People like these comic communities where they can find like-minded users and share jokes with each other.
  • Social networks. This is the most popular solution that offers a friendly format of communication. People can find each other, share messages, posts, images, or even call each other.
  • Educational platforms where the main connecting element is the learning process.
  • Scientific communities where scientists share their knowledge and experience with each other.
  • Dating platforms that help users find soulmates.
  • Media platforms for exchanging media content. The best examples are Instagram and YouTube.
A Step-by-Step Guide on How to Make a Social Network Website

First, you need to have experience in the area of development. If not, you can hire a team of professional programmers that can help bring your idea into life. Here’s a list of the main steps to follow.

Know your targeted audience

Define what type of social network platform you wish to build. Analyze your targeted audience and try to understand what kind of people will be interested in using it. Do thorough online research, analyze the demographics and behavioral habits of users. In doing so, you’ll understand what people need.

Think about your growth strategy

The modern market is overloaded with social media networks; it is hard to win where there are so many competitors. However, this doesn’t mean a mission is impossible. Think about your growth strategy, define your core audience, and analyze the most exciting concepts. Remember that the future success of your project depends on this.

Always begin small and gradually grow your database. Every platform starts as a local service and then grows internationally. When you see that the number of users is growing progressively, you can go big and focus on larger demographics.

Overview of compulsory features social media network platforms must have

Remember, modern users are a demanding. If your platform is overloaded with an abundance of useless options, people will go to your competitors. Here’s a list of the main features your social media website need to have:

  • Registration (simple, reliable and offering a few options).
  • Profile creation should be simple and hassle-free.
  • The ability to make, comment, and share posts.
  • Search option.
  • The ability to send friend requests and follow other accounts.
  • The wall. It should be customizable, and users should be allowed to post articles, like them, create video and photo galleries.
  • User Status.
  • Analytical tools are always needed for promoting the products and services through this website.
Use minimal design

Colors that are too bright won’t attract users. So keep it simple! The user experience is the question of major concern for any entrepreneur. Show that you care about their journey. Flashy designs aren’t the right solution because they only distract the user’s attention. Your design should be focused on users’ needs and preferences. Analyze the design of your competitors, see what colors they use and follow their example.

The UX design can’t be too complicated. Remember that the overriding purpose of any social networking platform is to entertain users. Simply put, it should give an enjoyable experience. Consistency is a must. Think about the architecture of your app in advance.

What technology to choose?

It’s a delicate question where you need to make the right choice. Remember that you have two solutions:

  • Use a ready-made template, but in this case, there’s no way to make it unique.
  • Build a platform from scratch. When choosing this solution, you need to hire a qualified and experienced team of developers that will help bring your idea into life. This solution has more advantages in the long run.
Stabilization of the project

When your product is finally ready, it is time to move on to stabilization. The main goal of this stage is to make sure the code doesn’t include bugs or any failures that prevent smooth running.

The main purposes of this stage are as follows:

  • Rigorous testing of the project;
  • Creating a list of enhancements (if there are any bugs);
  • Beta testing (when your project is tested in practice);
  • Finalizing your project.

Overall, these are the main aspects that need to be considered by entrepreneurs. Besides, you should also think about project support and create a powerful marketing strategy that will bring your product to the market. The promotion also requires investments.

When you have a detailed business plan, you only need to find experts that are ready to help you implement it. You’ll discuss time for app development, the number of features, a marketing strategy and much more! Remember that in hiring professionals in this field, you’ll manage to build a powerful product that will definitely be appreciated by its future users. Always keep in mind the needs of your targeted audience, and you’ll create a robust product they will love using in the long run!

What to Expect From Apple’s Big Event

September is here and that means so too is Apple’s next big hardware event. The Cupertino giant has already given us a glimpse of the new software updates — specifically iOS 14, iPadOS 14 and watchOS 7 — coming Tuesday 9/15/2020, and now it’s time for it to announced the next-generation hardware that’s going to take full advantage of it all.

Traditionally, this is is time of year when Apple announces new iPhones, new AirPods and a new Apple Watch. You can expect some Apple TV and Apple TV+ news, as well. This year because of the pandemic, things are shaping up a little differently — at least in terms of timing.

It’s rumored that Apple is working on over-ear headphones, Tile-like trackers called “AirTags,” a HomePod mini and even a new affordable iPad, but it may be too soon for all those. Same too with Apple’s impending Arm-based Macs, too. (The latest reports suggest these Macs won’t come until the second half of 2021.) Instead, this fall will likely be dedicated to new iPhones and the next-generation Apple Watch.

Here’s what you can expect.

Apple won’t have one big event. There will be staggered announcements throughout the fall.

It’s been widely reported that Apple is expected to delay the release of its next-generation iPhones, but it’s looking more and more likely that Apple is also going to delay their announcement, too. In a recent Twitter thread, Jon Prosser, a reliable tech leaker, suggested that Apple would be staggering its product announcements. The first will come during the week of September 7, and it will be dedicated to the next-generation Apple Watch (the Series 6) and iPads. These announcements are rumored to come via a press release — so no big event — just like Apple has recently done with the releases of the recent iPhone SE and 2. The big event dedicated to the iPhone 12 (in its various forms) is expected to be over a month later, during the week of October 12.

The Series 6 will have one game-changing feature.

The Series 6 isn’t expected to have a radical redesign — it won’t have a rounded bezel, for example — and will most likely look very similar to the Series 5 and the Series 4 before it. The Series 6 will undoubtedly have a few new features and abilities. The Series 5, for example, had an always-on display, a built-in compass, a dedicated ECG sensor and new higher-end finishes. But while the Series 6 will undoubtedly have a new chipset and hopefully an improved battery life (it’s going to need it for people to take advantage of its new sleep-tracking app), the big new feature is rumored to be a dedicated sensor for blood oxygen monitoring. This will be beneficial for athletes and people serious about working out.

A big question is whether or not Apple will kill the Series 5 after the Series 6 is announced. That’s what it did last year to the Series 4 after the Series 5 was announced, after all.

Separately, Apple is also supposedly working on a cheaper Apple Watch that could take the place of the Series 3. It is expected to be named the Apple Watch SE and compared to the Series 3, the new SE is expected to have an updated processor and chipset, Bluetooth 5.0, and it only be available in an aluminum 42mm model. That said, don’t expect it to be released (or even announced) this fall — you’ll likely have to wait until March 2021.

There will be four different iPhone 12s, two Pro and two affordable.

There is a lot to expect from the Phone 12 — and you can hear about it all right herebut the bottom line is that is expected to be four total iPhones: two Pro, two affordable. According to the rumors, there will be a 5.4-inch iPhone (smaller than the 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro) and a 6.7-inch iPhone (larger than the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max), along with two 6.1-inch iPhones (the same size as the vanilla iPhone 11). The large 6.7-inch iPhone and one of the 6.1-inch iPhones will both be Pros, with better OLED displays and better camera systems. While the 5.4-inch and the other 6.1-inch iPhones will both be more baseline, with two-camera systems and LCD displays.

Huawei’s Watch GT 2 Pro boasts a titanium case with sapphire glass and more

Apple is gearing up for a big announcement next week according to their recent press release. Despite talks of the iPhone 12 taking center stage, multiple sources are saying otherwise. It seems the Cupertino-based tech titan is ready to finally debut the Apple Watch Series 6. It’s probably why Samsung is aggressively promoting the Galaxy Watch 3. Meanwhile, despite its trade restriction woes in the United States, Huawei is ready to take on the new wearable with its Watch GT 2 Pro.

This is the latest follow-up to its popular Watch GT 2 and Watch GT 2e. Unlike the other models before it, there are a host of new elements that you should consider. First off is the premium build quality and design. The Watch GT 2 Pro drops the stainless-steel case in favor of titanium. The lightweight-yet-durable metal is paired with a sapphire glass lens.

The Watch GT 2 Pro sports a round 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a 454 x 454 HD resolution. It uses a HiSilcon Kirin A1 + STL4R9 chipset with a 32 MB RAM and 4 GB internal storage. The device runs on Huawei’s proprietary LiteOS platform which allows it last longer than other smartwatches. Equipped with a 455 mAh battery, normal usage should let it last up to 14 days on a single charge.

Huawei is offering two color options: Night Black and Nebula Gray. Owners can also choose between a black flouroelastomer or a gray/brown leather strap. Another interesting improvement over its regular versions is the support for wireless charging. Finally, the Watch GT 2 Pro is only available in one size — 46 mm.

Bose’s Audio Sunglasses for Runners Actually Seem Pretty Great

Bose’s audio sunglasses, the Bose Frames, were released in early 2019 and frankly I was surprised how good they were. They sounded great and looked almost like regular sunglasses despite having pretty niche appeal and being kind of expensive. When I reviewed the original Bose Frames, I remember thinking they would make a great running companion if they had a more athletic design. Well, that’s exactly what Bose has done.

The company just announced the Bose Frames Tempo, which are sport-focused versions of the Bose Frames. They work the exact same way as the original Frames — they connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth and play music — but have a more aerodynamic and rugged design. Plus, Bose gave them polarized lenses which were the original Bose Frames were lacking. According to Bose, the Frames Tempo are specifically engineered for outdoor workouts like biking, running and climbing. The catch is that the Tempo cost $250, which is $50 more the original Frames.

bose frames tempo

Bose

A lot of runners and bikers already wear performance sunglasses while they workout, and the Frames Tempo kills two birds — music and shades — with one stone. Like previous Bose Frames, the Tempo has built-in microphones and intuitive touch controls that allow you to seamlessly answer calls without disrupting your workout. Plus, as a runner, the most annoying thing with sport earbuds is worrying about them falling out during your workout. With audio sunglasses, you obviously don’t have worry about that.

Bose announced two other designs for the Bose Frames in addition to the Tempo. There’s the Frames Tenor, which have a square frame design similar to many surf/skate sunglasses. And there’s the Frames Soprano, which are cat eat sunglasses. Both the Tenor and the Soprano designs have polarized lenses and cost the same as the Tempo.

If you don’t care for the new sport designs and polarized lenses, and you’re looking to save a little dough, Bose is still selling the two original designs for the Frames, the Alto and Rondo, for $200.

7 Reasons why you need a VPN

If are reading this, it is extremely likely that you are either on your computer, smartphone, tablet, or any other device that is connected to the internet. A lot of us rely on it for entertainment, information, for work, and so much more. In fact, there are currently more than 4 billion active users globally, with about 57 percent of the total population with access to it. However, only a few bother to consider a virtual private network (VPN) service.

In the past, staying anonymous online was barely an afterthought for individuals. These days, on the other hand, privacy has become a huge concern. Most internet service providers (ISP) only offer basic forms of protection for its subscribers. Hence, it’s up to us to take action and keep our data private. After all, companies that do business online would normally pay others to supply them with user data for marketing purposes.

Meanwhile, there are others who seek to use it for malicious reasons, which is definitely not something anyone would want. Thankfully, the solution to this dilemma is easier than you think. All you need to do is to keep your IP address hidden from prying eyes everywhere.

For example, you can download PureVPN, which is available for almost every platform you can think off. It lets you safely enjoy whatever you want to do online without the risk of exposing your data. For those who are still not convinced, we’re happy to give you 7 of the best reasons to sign up for one.

Bypassing geoblocking in different countries

A lot of folks are unaware that websites, streaming programs, and others like it can determine the user’s location via their IP address. As such, certain types of content or services may be geo-blocked by default depending on where you connect to the internet.

For folks who regularly travel, some countries may block access to a specific website. With a VPN, you can practically trick the ISP to allow your connection. There are governments that are more oppressive than others and control what the public sees online. Therefore, you are free to surf and communicate over the web without any restrictions.

Protect personal information while gaming online

Playing multiplayer titles online can be a fun experience, but there is a real risk of being hacked by those with criminal intent. Some may argue that using a VPN is counterintuitive when gamers want to have the best connection quality available. Given that data is bounced on different servers instead of directly, some types of games might be affected.

On the flip side, a VPN service can prevent DDoS attacks from other players who might not be happy about their loss. Believe us when we tell you that there are people who can really hold a grudge and take it to a whole different level.

Then there’s something similar to what we noted above, which is geoblocked services. As long as you have an active subscription to a reliable service, you should be able to play anywhere you might be at the time.

Enjoy better pricing when shopping online

You’re probably beginning to notice a trend wherein VPN services primarily put users at an advantage by tweaking their IP address relative to location. From a consumer’s perspective, this would be a great boon for users who regularly purchase their goods over the internet.

Depending on the location gleaned from your system online retailers may charge a different price based on taxes or other regulatory fees. A simple solution would be to set it accordingly through your VPN and enjoy the savings each time you check out.

Stop unwanted tracking from websites

Despite what they claim, Google tracks essentially everything you do online. In fact, the internet search company has been in hot water for alleged privacy violations. Don’t even believe the Incognito Mode is enough to keep their eyes away from your web-based activities. The tech outfit does this in order to improve its algorithm that handles target ads.

With our dependence on its suite of services and features available on almost every device, we definitely need a way to end this unwanted practice. Fortunately, it’s as easy as activating your VPN service. This effectively blocks their systems from gathering what they need to sell to companies that would use it for marketing.

Security for public Wi-Fi connections

Everybody loves free internet connections provided by various establishments. Although this means you can stay connected almost everywhere, hackers are known to take advantage of this situation. While you might be saving money on your mobile data plan, cybercriminals can also benefit from your connectivity.

These include packet sniffing, malware distribution, and even phishing scams. Some people even intentionally set up a fake open network wherein anybody who connects will have the device’s contents compromised. Lesson learned, get a solid VPN service to take advantage of the encryption protocols it comes with.

Stop others from listening to your calls

Aside from traditional telecommunications, faster internet speeds have allowed people like you and me to chat and call online. We each have our own favorite platform but the technology behind it is similar. Voice over internet protocol (popularly known as VOIP in techspeak) lets us call anyone their friends and loved ones anywhere around the world for free.

No more international chargers, taxes, and other fees charged to your monthly bill. Without a VPN, whatever your talk about can be listened to by those with the right equipment. The encryption provided by secure servers makes it impossible to spy anything that relies on VOIP.

Staying anonymous

As we detailed above, ISPs don’t really do a good job of protecting your privacy. In fact, if your internet provider assigns a static IP for your subscription, it makes it even easier to build a profile. Hackers that specialize in identity theft specifically want to learn everything they can about their victims. However, these can easily be thwarted by VPN services. Moreover, it also lets users remain unidentified across the web.

Key takeaways

We have just provided a comprehensive article on why it is important for tech-savvy people to use a VPN service. Bose QuietComfort Earbuds Are Here: Can They Take on the AirPods Pro?

Bose has finally released the next-generation wireless earbuds that they were first announced in May 2019. There are two different wireless earbud models to choose from: the Bose Sport Earbuds and the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds.

First, the Bose Sport Earbuds (previously called the “Bose Earbuds 500”) are wireless sport earbuds that are smaller and sleeker versions of Bose’s previous SoundSport Free earbuds. Each earbud has up to five hours of battery life, with a charging case that provides up to 10 extra hours. They cost $179 and will be available starting on September 29, but you can preorder them today. They will be available in three different colors: Triple Black, Baltic Blue, and Glacier White.

Second and more excitingly, there’s the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds (previously called the “Bose Noise Cancelling Earbuds 700”), which are the company’s first pair of wireless earbuds with active noise-cancellation. Each earbud will have six hours of battery life, with the charging case adding an extra 12 hours total (enough to charge each earbud once fully). The QuietComfort Earbuds cost $280 and will be available starting on September 29, but you can preorder them today. They will be available in two colors: Triple Black and Soapstone.

It’s a little bit crazy that it’s taken Bose, the industry leading in active noise-cancellation, this long to release its first pair of noise-canceling wireless earbuds, but alas they are finally here. And by the looks like they’re primed to take the fight to Apple’s AirPods Pro.

What’s also interesting is Bose’s naming convention. The QuietComfort Earbuds have adopted the “QuietComfort” name, but share many features from the flagship noise-canceling headphones, the Bose Headphones 700, such as 11 different levels of noise control and improved microphones for superior call clarity. People obviously have a strong love and familiarity to Bose’s famed “QuietComfort” line, and it seems that Bose is trying to capitalize on that.

We’ll be able to tell you more once we review both of Bose’s new wireless earbuds in the near future.

Jabra’s $120 Wireless Earbuds Are Just $40 Today

Right now, you can buy refurbished Jabra Elite 65t, which are still one of the best AirPod alternatives you can buy, for just $40. That’s $80 off what they’re going for at Best Buy right now.

The Jabra Elite 65t are wireless earbuds that were released about two years ago. Since then, Jabra released the Elite 75t ($179), which are wireless earbuds that are smaller and have a little better battery life (plus, they charge via USB-C) — but they’re also more expensive. Jabra also makes the Elite Active 65t (read our review, here), which are essentially sweatproof and slightly more expensive versions of the Jabra Elite 65t wireless earbuds.

As for the Elite 65t, they sound good, fit snug, and have a four-mic array so they have better call quality than most alternative true wireless earbuds; for more information, you can read our full review of the Jabra Elite 65t, here.

Worried about buying refurbished? Fair enough. But these earbuds have been refurbished from Jabra themselves, so they know what they’re doing. Also, eBay has a 30-day return policy — if you’re at all not happy with your purchase, you can send them back.

Is Bose’s Answer to AirPods Finally Here?

It looks like Bose is finally gearing up to release its highly anticipated next-generation wireless earbuds. According to CNET, a launch video was leaked by an Australian retailer — and then subsequently deleted — showing the new wireless earbuds. The video didn’t share when the new earbuds were going to be released, but it did reveal that the name of the new wireless earbuds is going to be the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds, which is different than what Bose had previously announced.

Here’s a bit of background: In May 2019, Bose officially announced two new wireless earbuds. The Bose Earbuds 500 were going to be a smaller and sleeker version of the company’s current true wireless earbuds, the SoundSport Free earbuds ($200 $149), and they were expected to be released by the end of 2019. While the Bose Noise Cancelling Earbuds 700 were going to be a high-end version with powerful noise-cancellation. The Earbuds 700 were expected to be released “sometime in 2020.”

Of course, it’s late 2020 and neither of Bose’s new earbuds have been released yet. This has obviously frustrated people given that the popularity of the category has exploded and Bose, one of the most-loved audio companies, still sells two-year-old wireless earbuds.

Now, it looks like we’re about to finally get what we’ve been waiting for. It’s unclear if Bose is gearing up to release one or both of its new wireless earbuds, but the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds are likely a renamed versions of Bose Noise Cancelling Earbuds 700; the name “QuietComfort” is synonymous with the company’s noise-cancellation, after all. Plus, the Bose Noise Cancelling Earbuds 700 is a mouthful.

Hopefully this leaked video means that the release of Bose’s new wireless earbuds is imminent. But giving the history of these wireless earbuds, nothing is certain.

Caviar reworks Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with marble via its Eternity Collection

To think that Apple is supposedly overpricing its products. Last week, Samsung – competing against its rival – was recently launching a $1,999 smartphone. While regular people like us would find it too expensive for our tastes and budget, there are those who seek even more. Its exactly for that reason why companies such as Caviar Royal Gift exist in the first place. The Russian jeweler has been offering exclusive versions of popular handsets and the latest to get the luxury treatment is the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

Samsung is already selling an unlocked Galaxy Note 20 Ultra for $1,299.99 and $1,499.99 depending on the internal storage size. However, Caviar kicks it up a notch with its Eternity Collection that replaces the already premium construction with pricier alternatives. The material of choice is marble and is available in four exclusive variants each limited to only 99 examples globally:

Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus makes its debut on the back panel of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Nevertheless, it’s not stopping Caviar craftsmen from replacing it with the metamorphic rock. The models get their names from iconic structures around the world. These include the Forbidden City, St. Basil’s Cathedral, the Parthenon, and the Hagia Sophia.

To make it even more special, each one showcases engravings one can immediately associate with each respective heritage sites. All of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra units from Caviar tout metal frameworks with rose gold electroplating. Samsung delivers cinema-grade entertainment via The Premiere 4K laser projector

Among the business greatly affected by the pandemic lockdowns are the movie theaters and the studios that make the films. In order to adapt, many of the biggest entertainment companies have shifted their efforts to pay-per-view or streaming platforms. Therefore, those who crave the cinema vibe are likely in the market for devices that can emulate it. Thankfully, there’s no shortage of options available. For example, The Premiere from Samsung takes into account homes with limited spaces and still deliver an immersive experience.

The problem with most types of high-end projectors is the distance it needs to properly display the images on the screen or wall. If it’s positioned too closely, the size will be affected. Therefore, users who do not have an adequate area cannot enjoy its full potential.

Samsung, on the other hand, provides a simple solution that does not compromise visual quality. The Premiere is actually a short-throw model that can be set closer to the projector screen or surface. The Premiere is part of Samsung’s Lifestyle catalog of premium entertainment hardware.

So far, the South Korean outfit is giving us the picture frame-esque The Serif, the rotating The Sero, and the outdoor-ready The Terrace. These lineup of products sports features and looks that will blend with your home’s décor. In short, these are pricey pieces of consumer electronics.

Samsung is offering two variants of The Premiere: LSP9T and LSP7T. The Premiere is capable of up to a 130-inch projection and is apparently the world’s first HDR10+ certified projector with triple laser technology. Meanwhile, the latter is still impressive nonetheless with a projection size of up to 120 inches minus the brightness levels of the range-topping version.

What’s the Difference Between $99 and $250 Noise-Canceling Earbuds?

If you’re in the market for noise-canceling wireless earbuds, you’ve got options. In the past year or more, Apple, Sony, Sennheiser, Samsung and Master & Dynamic, have all released their own noise-canceling wireless earbuds. The problem? They’re all pretty expensive. The two most popular options, Apple’s AirPods Pro ($249) and the Sony WF-1000XM3 ($228), for example, both cost well-over $200.

Early this year, the relatively unknown audio company JLab Audio made waves when it released the Go Air, a pair of $29 wireless earbuds that, for the price, were surprisingly good. Fast forward just a few months and JLab Audio has a number of affordable wireless earbuds in various different fits. They also released the Epic Air ANC, its first pair of noise-canceling wireless earbuds — and they cost just $99.

When comparing a pair of $99 wireless earbuds, like the Epic Air ANC, to a pair that costs $249, like the AirPods Pro, you naturally expect there to be some tradeoffs — and there definitely are some with the Epic Air ANC. But the tradeoffs may very well be worth it for you.

JLab Audio Epic Air ANC True Wireless Earbuds

Jlab Audio

Even at a cheaper price, you still get good audio quality and great battery life.

The Epic Air ANC are actually pretty solid wireless earbuds. I ran with them. I worked out with them. I listened to them during the day while I worked. And they worked just great. The sound is good, with pretty clear mid-range and highs, and it’s not overly bass-heavy like you normally get with other cheap earbuds.

The battery life of the Epic Air ANC is one of its most defining features, with each earbud getting about 12 hours of playtime on a single charge and the case providing an additional two charges to each earbud. Plus, if you’re in a pinch, a quick 15-minute charge will get you about an hour of playtime. JLab Audio claims they support wireless charging, too, although I didn’t have a wireless charger to test them on.

Don’t expect best-in-class noise-cancellation.

The Epic Air ANC are actually pretty intuitive to use and they come with a lot similar features found in premium wireless earbuds, such as optical sensors in each earbud as well as capacitive touch controls, the latter of which allows you to toggle between three different settings: ANC on, ANC off and an ambient sound mode. There’s also a companion app — the JLab Air ANC app — that will allow you to adjust EQ settings, however at the time of my review it hadn’t launched yet so I wasn’t able to play around with it.

Even though JLab Audio’s wireless earbuds have a number of premium features, not all of them are pulled off. Most notably, the noise cancellation. When I had the noise-canceling turned on, there was this effect that made it sound like I was in a wind tunnel or driving in a car with a window down — which wasn’t great. JLab Audio is working to improve the quality of its ANC in software updates but advanced noise-cancellation requires both sophisticated hardware and software and it’s hard to imagine they could ever punch at a premium weight.

You’ll forfeit other features, like wireless charging.

The look and feel of the earbuds themselves isn’t bad, though. In fact, they fit every similar to Apple’s AirPods (non-noise-canceling), but they also come with a number of silicon eartips to ensure that they’ll fit snug in your ears.

Its case however, is clearly a place where JLab is saving money on production, It’s missing features like wireless charging, and instead of coming with a wall adapter and a charging cable, there’s an integrated charging cord build right into the case. It’s convenient in some respects, since it means the case is an all-in-one package, but that integrated cable is really short — like two inches in length — and causes the charging case to dangle from the wall if plugged into a wall outlet.

It’s time to replace several of your tools with the awesome xDrill

Perhaps we have all gotten used to the convenience brought about by the tools we use in the shop or home. In fact, anybody who uses one can easily switch between various brands and models and operate it without any problems. Unfortunately, this means manufacturers are afraid to make drastic changes which can alienate users. Thankfully, the folks from Robbox are willing to take the risk and deliver an innovative piece of equipment. Those with a penchant for DIY projects will find the xDrill one versatile piece of gear.

What looks like your average high-torque tool is actually an all-in-one affair that could be groundbreaking. Just like how we love certain EDCs that includes almost anything we might need at a moments notice, the xDrill embodies a similar approach. As the name already hints at, this primarily functions as indicated. However, it packs some unique features that put others to shame.

There are those who just want to slap a touchscreen on anything and label it as a smart gadget. The xDrill does exactly that but backs up the claim with a collection of functions that make everything so much easier. It shares a recognizable appearance as with many cordless drills with some notable exceptions. To our surprise, the rear section houses a round LCD capacitive touch panel.

The DrillPoint Coordinates function uses a set of lasers to guide you with pinpoint accuracy over your target. Meanwhile, the depth control option will automatically stop the drill according to your specifications. Then there’s the digital level that also comes with custom angle leveling. The xDrill is shaping up to be one awesome crowdfunding project.
