7 New Gadgets to Have on Your Radar This Week

No, Apple didn’t announce any new hardware this week. But it did confirm that WWDC 2021, its annual developer conference, will start on June 7th, meaning we’ll definitely see some new stuff (mostly software, but maybe some hardware?) then. In other news, Google announced that it will not exhibit at the world’s biggest phone show; Adobe launched a $15 bundle for illustrators; and Spotify launched some new features to discover new music.

As far as new gadgets are concerned, there were a bunch of those announced this week too. There was Bang & Olufsen’s new gaming headset, Casio’s first G-Shock running Google’s Wear OS, and some new MagSafe accessories for your iPhone 12. You can check it all out below.

How to Recalibrate Your iPhone’s Battery

Welcome to Product Support, a column devoted to helping you get the most out of the gadgets and software you already use.

If you have one of last year’s iPhones — specifically an iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro — and you’ve noticed that its performance has dipped and its battery life unexpectedly drains at times, the good news is that Apple is planning a fix. It’s coming in the form of a new iPhone recalibration feature, which will roll out as part of the next iOS update (iOS 14.5) this spring.

Once you update your iPhone with new operating system, the new battery calibration feature will kick into effect automatically. Apple claims that the process would take up to a few weeks, but you’ll be able to check in on how your battery recalibration is going into Settings >Battery > Battery Health.

Under Battery Health, if you see a recalibration message, then the process is still ongoing. Once the message disappears, then the process is complete. If you don’t see any message, then the battery recalibration was successful and your iPhone’s issues should be fixed.

However, if you see a message that says your battery health is “significantly degraded,” you might be able to get a free replacement battery for your iPhone.

If your iPhone has been experiencing battery drain issues and you’re anxious to try out this new battery calibration feature ahead of the full release of iOS 14.5, you do so now by downloading the developer beta of iOS 14.5 right now. However, as with all beta software, it’s not the final operating system and installing it could lead to problems, like unexpected bugs or even potentially losing things like photos or iMessages.

If you do decide to go ahead and download the public beta, we recommend backing up your iPhone beforehand.

Going Solar Dictates Savviness

Shopaholics, hey! I am one of you, and I know that we love shopping. But most of us get exhausted from multiple-station shopping. That is why we have one favorite store with things that we love the most. What do we also love? Saving money to go shopping later. Imagine being capable of saving money on electricity and consuming a pre-planned electricity bill on buying your favorite stuff – clothes, smartphone, etc. Isn’t it amazing?

That is an opportunity that solar energy can give you! Solar panel companies like LA Solar Group take care of the equipment, a solar panel system, that supplies the sun’s energy to your house. They always ensure that customers go through the best purchasing experience with them. For that purpose, companies introduce solar panel kits to their consumers. Let’s move forward and see why a solar panel kit became a focus of solar panel companies.

What Are Solar Panel Kits?

Photovoltaic (PV) panel kits are bundles of solar equipment that comprise the necessities for a smooth journey in the solar world. Often they include a PV panel, inverter, mounting and performance monitoring systems, as well as a solar panel battery. These five components are necessities while going solar and PV kits ensure you get the most out of your purchase.

Even if you are not a shopaholic when you do research and find out that buying the main pieces of solar equipment is possible with one purchase, one company, and one location, you hurry up after that purchase. Of course, for shopaholics, it’s heaven. Such occasions prove that energy can also be attractive when you love shopping.

How Do You Benefit From PV Panel Kits?

The #1 priority that comes to you with them is savviness. Suppose you go to the store to buy solar equipment and find out that they don’t have one piece of the main gear from the list. In that case, you need to travel to another location, spend money on transportation, buy from another supplier, and get multiple installations done.

Too much waste of resources – time and money! Instead, you can make sure that the company of your choice supplies PV panel kits, go there, and get the necessities at an affordable price with a single installation. In this case, you save money on transportation, the purchase itself, and installation.

Besides, as that equipment supplies the sun’s energy and it is an affordable resource, you save on electricity consumption through lower monthly utility bills and extra financial incentives like solar stocks and selling-back-to-the-grid. Stay tuned to know about these ones. Believe me, they are beyond exciting to utilize.

Go solar – opportunities await you!

5 Apps That Turn Your Phone Into a Document Scanner

Thanks to smartphones, it’s easier than ever to digitize you various documents — such as bills, receipts, newspaper articles and even photos — so that you can access them whenever you want. All you have to do is open an app, point your camera at it and — snap — it’s saved in the cloud.

Most scanner apps (as well as apps with dedicated scanner features) have built-in technologies that automatically cut, crop and (sometimes) color your scanned document so that it looks best. We’ve rounded up the best scanner apps that you can use right now. Which one you choose will depend largely on the services and apps you already use, as well as how you plan to use your documents after they are scanned.

Adobe Scan

phone-scanners-gear-patrol-adobe-acrobat

Adobe Scan is one of the best scanner apps because of its simplicity and accuracy — it’s also free. Adobe saves all these scans as PDFs, which might be a point of frustration for those who want to save as a JPEG so they can add to a Word document or PowerPoint presentation. Also, it saves all your scanned PDFs to its own cloud storage system, Adobe Document Cloud, and isn’t the best if you use other cloud storage systems, like Google Drive or Dropbox. It’s available on iOS and Android.

What’s the Difference Between a $50 and a $200 Desk Microphone?

Whether you’re spending a lot of time on video conference calls, starting a podcast or recording your own music, it’s a good idea to invest in a USB microphone. Why? Because the microphone that’s built-in your laptop, desktop or headphones (unless you have a gaming headset with a boom microphone) isn’t very good — and a USB microphone is plug-and-play ready (literally) and will greatly improve the clarity of your recordings.

The good news is there’s a wide selection a lot of these USB microphones out there and most don’t cost a fortune. If you’re in the market for a USB microphone and you’re an average person — meaning you’re not a professional musician, gamer or streamer — you probably don’t need to spend more than $200. In fact, you can even get a high-quality USB microphone from reputable brand, such as Blue, Rode, Shure or Sennheiser, for as little as $50.

So what exactly is the difference between a USB microphone that costs $50 and one that costs $200? I’ve been testing the Blue Snowball Ice ($50) and the Tula Mic ($199) for the last month and, while both are big upgrades over what you likely have, the Tula Mic definitely has a warmer, brighter and more personal sound. But it’s also a lot more than that.

Here’s what you need to know.

snowball and tula mic

Courtesy

The clarify of your voice is the biggest thing.

The whole reason for getting an external microphone is to improve the sound quality of your voice and, naturally, the more expensive external microphones are going to have higher quality components (transducers, specifically) that are going to do a better job of just that. It can all get a little complicated when comparing microphones, but the two specs that will have the biggest impact on how your voice sounds are frequency response and resolution (or sample/bit rate).

Frequency response indicates the range of sound frequencies that the external microphone is able to pick up. Typically, the wider the frequency response, the better the sound quality the microphone will pick up. When it comes to podcasting or video conferencing, it’s more important to capture the higher frequencies because those are the sounds of your voice. (If you’re playing instruments, you may be more concerned with the lower frequencies.)

The resolution of the audio that the microphone is able to capture, which is indicated by its sample/bit rate, is the other important spec. All these USB microphones have to convert analog sounds (your voice) into digital files (so they sent or stored over the internet), and the better ones are able to capture higher-resolution audio. A lot of USB mics are limited to capturing 16-bit/44.1kHz audio (roughly CD-quality), while the best ones can capture 24-bit/48kHz audio.

As these specs relate to the two microphones we’re comparing, the Blue Snowball Ice actually has slightly wider frequency response (40Hz to 18 kHz), but the Tula Mic (50Hz to 20kHz) is able to capture the more high-frequencies which is the sound of your voice. The main reason that the Tula Mic sounds noticeably better is that it’s able to record higher-resolution audio (24-bit/48kHz vs the Snowball Ice’s 16-bit/44.1kHz). The result is that, when comparing recordings side by side, the Tula simply sounds more personal, like you’re actually sitting right next to the person you’re listening to.

It’s about the features (and customization), too.

It’s actually a little unfair when comparing the various features of the Blue Snowball Ice and the Tula Mic because, well, the former doesn’t really have any features. The Blue Snow Ice is a simple plug-and-play microphone that uses a USB-A connection. There’s no software or ways to customize its sound. You just plug it into your desktop or laptop, adjust its sound input and — boom! — it works.

The Tula Mic is also a plug-and-play USB microphone, but it’s a way more customizable and versatile. There are side buttons that allow you to adjust gain and even adjust the directions that it records audio; you can toggle between cardioid (front and sides, but not opposite) recording or omnidirectional (360-degree) recording. There’s even a noise-cancellation feature that you can turn on, which is ideal if you’re recording or taking a video call in a noisy environment.

The other thing that drives up the price of the Tula Mic is the fact that it also functions as a portable digital recorder. That’s right, it has a 14-hour battery and 8GB of built-in memory, so you can take it anywhere are record interviews or music or whatever, without a computer nearby. It also has a built-in headphone jack so you can listen back to what you just recorded to make sure it sounds fine. Admittedly, you might never use the Tula Mic as a standalone digital recorder, and that should be fine so long as you love the its look.

Tula

Tula Mic

Tula Mics amazon.com

$199.99

The design is the cherry on top.

Design is important. Most people are going to have their USB microphone living on their, out in the open, so they want it to look good. And you make the argument that both the Blue Snowball Ice and the Tula Mic are statement pieces. Although they definitely look very different.

Both designs are distinctly vintage, albeit. The Blue Snowball Ice is a huge orb-shaped microphone with a metallic grille and the company’s signature logo dead center; it looks like a classic piece of recording equipment. The Tula Mic is a much smaller USB microphone (roughly half the size) as it’s designed to be way more portable. That said, it still exudes a strong vintage flair.

I can’t really declare a winner in the looks department — both look cool in their own ways. Maybe I’d edge the Tula Mic because, in addition to black or white like the Snowball Ice, it also comes in red.

Here’s When You’ll Catch Your First Glimpse of iOS 15

Get ready, everyone: Apple has officially confirmed that WWDC 2021, its annual developer conference, will start on June 7th — which means we now know with almost absolute certainty when we’ll get our first look at what’s coming in iOS 15.

WWDC, of course, is typically Apple’s big software event, where it announces the major updates and new features that will roll out to iPhones, iPads, AirPods, Apple TVs and Macs when their next-generation operating systems — including, in this case, the new mobile OS presumably called iOS 15 — go live in the fall. Apple occasionally gives us new hardware, too; in the last few years, Apple has announced the HomePod, the Mac Pro and the Pro Display XDR all at WWDC.

What kind of software features or hardware announcements are in store? It’s too early to tell much. The only clue that Apple has given us is that the official press release includes an image of an emoji Bitmoji Memoji character wearing glasses and looking at a laptop. It’s an image that’s very reminiscent Apple’s Craig Federighi demonstrating last year’s MacBooks’ instant-wake feature. This could also be a nod to some potential smart glasses that Apple has been rumored to have been working on for seemingly forever.

This WWDC announcement doesn’t mean that Apple won’t have its traditional spring event; in fact, we’re still expecting Apple to have announce new hardware — potentially new iPads, a redesigned iMac and next-generation AirPods — within the next few weeks (sometime in mid-to-late April).

You can read about the latest rumors of what Apple could announce at its spring event, here.

The Best and Biggest Gadgets You Should Know About This Month

We may still be waiting on the traditional spring Apple announcement, but March hasn’t been hurting for big product releases in its absence. We’ve seen the latest drone from DJI, details on LG’s most affordable OLEDs, and luxury headphones from Bang & Olufsen that have the AirPods Max in their sights. Most notable of all, though, is probably the new, portable speaker from Sonos that is going to take the fight to Bluetooth.

Here’s everything you should know about from the month of March.

But while the Move costs an intimidating $399, which is more than most people are willing to spend on a portable speaker, the Roam comes in at a surprisingly affordable $169. It’s available for preorder now and ships April 20.

By all accounts the OnePlus Watch looks to be a pretty standard smartwatch, with the necessary sensors to track steps, distance, heart rate and blood oxygen levels; the kicker, however, is that it supposedly has a week-long battery life, which is way better than Samsung’s and Apple’s offerings.

Ultimate Student’s Guide to Transitional Words and Phrases

English transitional words are a vital element of the language, as they help ideas flow logically. As a student, you will spend a considerable portion of your time in school writing various types of content: notes, assignments, essays, and many others. Knowing how to use transitional words and phrases for coherent writing goes a long way as an enabler of academic success. Here is a helpful guide to the effective use of transitional words and phrases in writing.

Types of Transitions

Transitional words fall into three major categories, as follows:

  • Transition words;
  • Transitions used between sentences;
  • Transitions between paragraphs.

In the absence of these transitions, writing is challenging to comprehend and can easily confuse the reader.

Choosing Transition Words

Repeating the same transitional words and phrases in one article makes writing dull. If you have been browsing and searching for a domyessay writing papers for me service, opt for an ENL writer for essays written with perfect transitions and to attain better grades.

Application of Transitional Words

Whether you are using a transitional word or phrase, they add readability to any piece of writing and are necessary for high-quality essays. Below are ways to apply transitions in your work for improved coherence.

To Show Addition

There are many times in your writing when you will need to add more information to your already written ideas. Transitions of addition will help you achieve this.

Examples in sentences:

Examples in sentences:

For Emphasis

Examples: Without a doubt, Chiefly, Especially, Particularly, For this reason, So, Again, Even

Examples in sentences:

Without a doubt, she is the best neurosurgeon in this district.

There has been an insatiable demand for supplements, especially after the pandemic.

Examples: On the contrary, Unlike, Whereas, Though, Despite this, However, Nevertheless, Nonetheless

Examples in sentences:

The beach was nothing like the beautiful paradise we had expected. On the contrary, it was crowded, dirty, and noisy.

I have already had my dinner; however, I am still craving cake.

To Show Result

Examples: As a result, Hence, Consequently, Thus, For this reason, Since, Therefore, Accordingly

Examples in sentences:

She brought geese and chicken from her trip to the countryside. As a result, her backyard is noisy.

Part of the roof caved in after the storm. Consequently, the house is now inhabitable.

To Conclude

At the end of your article or essay, you need to make a convincing ending. Conclusion transitional words wrap up what has already been stated.

Examples: In the end, Ultimately, Finally, Overall, In short, Briefly, Altogether, Definitely

Examples in sentences:

In the end, it is more expensive to rent a car in the long term than to buy one.

Ultimately, there had to be an end to the infighting; it was too costly and time-consuming.

To Indicate Location

Transitional words indicating location are a valuable indicator to draw the reader’s attention to a particular place.

Examples: In the background, Beyond, Below, Above, On the other side, Nearby, Opposite, Here

Examples in sentences:

Picking a Business School: How to Make a Right Choice

Business schools are the next big thing, again. After a reported decline in the popularity of MBA programs in recent years, there is a noticeable rise. And the pandemic has a lot to do with it.

The demand for business degrees typically rises during recessions, says Nunzio Quacquarelli, CEO and founder of QS. The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic clearly caused a deep recession – so, MBA degrees are back in fashion.

In 2020, many people who have been postponing the decision to study at a business school for years, have finally opted to go for it. Their reasons were unbeatable – higher accessibility of the programs, cheaper loans from the banks, and the need to meet the demands of the increasingly competitive job market.

And the trend still continues. In 2021, professionals continue seeking business education despite its higher costs and career delays it causes. For all of them, it’s crucial to know how to pick the right business school that will give the best value for their money.

If you’re also wondering how to make the right choice, read on to get some helpful advice on the subject.

Decide If You Really Need It

The core question that you should ask yourself before even starting the choice process is whether you really need an MBA. Why do you want to go for it? Why spend hundreds of thousands and lose the whole two years of income? Are you really sure you need it?

The main reasons are the needs to:

  • gain more knowledge on business-related topics and hone leadership and management skills;
  • increase their value in the job market and land a higher job position;
  • build new connections and expand professional network;
  • help them make a career pivot.

If you’re thinking about attending a business program for some other reasons, maybe an MBA is not what you really need.

Look at the Ratings

Surely, one can’t rely solely on ratings when choosing anything – including a business school. However, some of the most respectable ones, like WhatMBA? by The Economist or business school rating by QS are good as a starting point for your search.

Sift through the most popular ratings, and you’ll get a general idea of what you can choose from. What options the best institutions offer, and how much the tuition costs? Make your personal short-list of the best options of your choice and start looking at each of them more closely.

Consider the Application Process

Many business schools simplified their application process during the pandemic in order to attract more applicants. Some have even dropped GMAT altogether, which has been a relief for prospective students.

Still, there are many requirements left on the list. For example, the applicants typically need to provide essays and a resume – but this can be easily taken care of with the help of essay writing services or similar platforms. Other conditions are more difficult to fulfill, like the above-mentioned GMAT, or letters of recommendation if the school decided to stick to them.

Count the Costs

The costs of the whole enterprise are usually the most sensitive subject for those wanting to get an MBA degree. Business education is famously expensive, so it’s crucial to weigh your solvency before you apply.

However, don’t drop a particular school the minute you see a hefty price tag. Instead, find out if the institution offers scholarships and consider taking a loan from a bank.

Many banks are offering loans with low interest rates during the pandemic. It may be a great opportunity to finally get the desired degree – and pay for it less and later.

Choose the Location

Do you want to relocate during (and, possibly, after) your studies? If the answer is yes, then first decide where exactly, and then start looking for schools in this area. If you plan to stay where you are, your choice narrows – you can only pick a program provided by local schools.

The best relocation plan is when you already have an idea about your future job in the country or city of your destination. For example, the company you’re already working for has a branch there. If this is not your case, carefully think about how you’re going to live on the site during your studies.

What are the living standards? The cost of living? The infrastructure? You should have clear answers to all these questions before you decide to relocate.

Do You Want an Online Degree?

But there are online degrees, too, you might say. Yes, there are, but mull over it – are they really worth your time and money? On the one hand, a school with a big name ranking high in top ratings is always impressive. But on the other – will you really get value for your money if you choose to study online?

The truth is, you probably won’t. Primarily because networking and socializing are a huge part of the study process in business schools. And what kind of networking can you get online? Surely, there are Zoom conferences and meetings. But then, there are other, less costly online networking opportunities. And for everything else, there are MOOCs, right?

Visit the School and Connect with the Alumni

Finally, when you’re got a few schools left on your shortlist, look even deeper into what they can offer. Visit webinars or school tours, connect to the students and the alumni in person or via social media, look for publications in the media. This will help you make the final decision and hedge all possible risks.

Final Words

Business education still has value, the pandemic has proven. Therefore, MBA degrees can open new job perspectives, help graduates earn more, and/or make a desired career pivot.

Still, such education remains rather costly, so it’s vital to make a thorough research before choosing a particular school. Use the tips provided in this article to help you make the right choice!

This Is LG’s Most Affordable OLED TV Ever

Thinking about buying a new television? Well, good news: LG has just announced the pricing and availability of its 2021 lines of 4K OLED TVs. It’s big news because LG has made best 4K OLED TVs for years and years — heck, it even supplies the OLED panels for some its main competitors such as Sony and Panasonic — and, naturally, its newest models are poised to be its best yet.

The biggest news, however, is that LG has finally announced that its all-new A1 Series will start at just $1,299, making it the brand’s most affordable 4K OLED TV ever.

Here’s what you need to know about LG’s new OLED line.

A1 Series

The A1 Series is LG’s new entry-level line of 4K OLED TVs, and it’s exciting for anybody who wants to get a new 4K OLED TV and doesn’t want to pay much more than $1,000. All the A1 Series support for popular HDR technologies, such as Dolby Vision and HDR10, as well as Dolby Atmos.

The big tradeoff is that they don’t support HDMI 2.1, meaning you should opt for one of LG’s higher-end models if you plan on gaming with one of the next-generation consoles.

The A1 models will be available four different sizes: 48″ (available June 2021, $1,299), 55″ (available April 2021, $1,599), 65″ (available April 2021, $2,199), 77″ (available June 2021, $3,199).

LEARN MORE

C1 Series

The C1 Series is the next generation of LG’s CX, which has traditionally been a default pick pick for the best OLED TV money could buy. The big update is that LG is now offering a 83-inch model — the biggest screen size in the line — and added some new gaming features to optimize the C1 for the next-generation consoles.

The C1 models will be available five different sizes: 48″ (available April 2021, $1,499), 55″ (available March 2021, $1,799), 65″ (available March 2021, $2,499), 77″ (available March 2021, $3,799) and 83″ (available May 2021, $5,999).

LEARN MORE

G1 Series

The G1 Series is the new “Gallery” series and the direct successor to last year’s GX. It’s mainly designed to be wall-mounted, with its speakers and ports built directly into the frame; there’s no separate box, as there is with the C1.

The big improvement is that LG integrated the G1 with a new OLED evo panel, so you can expect a significantly brighter and improved picture. (If you don’t want to wall-mount the G1, LG sells a three-legged stand.)

The G1 models will be available three different sizes: 55″ (available April 2021, $2,199), 65″ (available March 2021, $2,999), and 77″ (available March 2021, $4,999).

Sony’s next-generation PSVR for the PS5 will use these new VR controllers

Microsoft’s release of the new Xbox Wireless Headset earlier this week generated a lot of controversy. Upon pairing the headphones to the Xbox Series X, Italian gamers were met with a message saying something about a VR headset. A spokesperson later confirmed that it was a just localization error. Meanwhile, Sony is doubling down and revealing the new PS5 VR controllers.

In the past, Xbox boss Phil Spencer assures gamers that virtual reality is not in the pipeline for Microsoft’s next-gen system. Gamers on Sony’s ecosystem, however, have been enjoying the PSVR for the PS4 which also works on the PS5.

In February 2021, a post of the PlayStation Blog officially confirms the development of the PSVR 2 as gaming pundits keep calling it for now. PlayStation executive Hideaki Nishino was previously hinting about borrowing some features form the PS5’s DualSense gamepad.

The latest update from Sony finally takes the covers off the new VR controllers. Looking at the design it bears a slight resemblance to those of the Oculus Rift. Still, there are enough visual differences to quickly tell it apart. Unlike the dual-tone (white/black) theme of the PS5 and its accessories, this one is all black with a matte finish.

Sony confirms that the new PS5’s VR controllers are more immersive than ever. It will have adaptive triggers and innovative haptic feedback technology. These two are the biggest selling points of the DualSense. The pair features finger touch detection to add natural nuances to the gameplay. We can’t wait to see what the PSVR 2 finally looks like soon.

You also listen to Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) certified tracks, which are even higher resolution (up to 24bit/96kHz), as well as audio tracks like 360 Reality Audio and Dolby Atmos Music. The big advantage to subscribing to Tidal HiFi is that you get access to artist exclusives, music videos and live concerts.

Amazon Music HD

amazon music hd app

Amazon launched its lossless streaming service (Amazon Music HD) in the fall of 2019, and it has two big selling points. First, it’s affordable; it costs $13/month for Prime members (or $15/month for non-Prime members). And secondly, it allows you to listen to really high resolution audio. There are two different tiers of lossless audio to choose from. There are “High Definition” tracks, which are roughly CD quality, there are “Ultra HD” tracks, which are 24-bit/192kHz and the highest-resolution audio that’s available for streamers.

Number of lossless tracks: over 60 million of “High Definition” tracks; millions of “Ultra HD” tracks

Deezer HiFi

deezer music app

Deezer HiFi is probably the best alternative to Tidal HiFi, as both are able to play lossless CD-quality FLAC files. The advantage of a Deezer HiFi subscription is price — it’s cheaper and offers a substantially longer free trial for new users. The downside is that it doesn’t support Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) tracks, like Tidal, so it can’t quite match the audio quality.

Max streaming quality: 16bit / 44.1kHz

Supported formats: FLAC

Qobuz

qobuz music app

Qobuz is one of the best lossless streaming services because of its intuitive app and large catalog of lossless and ultra-high-resolution tracks. (If you’re looking for the best quality audio, Qobuz and Amazon Music HD are your two best options.) The only real downside of Qobuz is that it lacks some of the additional features — like auto-generated radio stations, a karaoke mode and music videos — that other lossless streaming services have.

Number of lossless tracks: 24bit /192kHz

Max streaming quality: over 70 million tracks

Supported formats: AIFF, ALAC, FLAC, WAV, WMA Lossless

Spotify HiFi

spotify app

Spotify recently announced its first lossless streaming service, Spotify Hifi, which will officially launch “later this year.” Not a lot is known about Spotify HiFi just yet, other then it will deliver “CD-quality” audio and work really well with Spotify Connect-enabled speakers (which is most wireless speakers). There is no news on how large its lossless music catalog will be. And we do not yet know pricing.

Number of lossless tracks: TBA

Max streaming quality: TBA (but we’re guessing 24bit / 96kHz)

Supported formats: TBA

Price: TBA

Apple’s New Airpods Are Coming. Here’s What to Expect

It’s safe to say that the audio product development team over at Apple has been, shall we say, busy. In the last several months, Cupertino has given us Apple’s first tiny smart speaker, the HomePod mini, as well as Apple’s first pair of over-ear headphones, the AirPods Maxat the cost, apparently, of the original HomePod. (RIP, HomePod.)

Also rumored to be in the works? The third-generation version of the original AirPods. Because, well, of course they’d in the works. You think Apple would give up on something like the headphones that redefined Bluetooth earbuds?

It’s been two years since Apple announced the second-generation AirPods back in March 2019, and despite looking identical to the original AirPods (which were first announced in late 2016), they delivered several key upgrades, such faster switching between devices, support for hands-free “Hey Siri,” and an optional wireless charging case.

With the third-generation AirPods, however, the upgrades are expected to be more than just under the hood. Here’s what we know so far.

The new earbuds will probably look more like the AirPods Pro.

The third-generation AirPods are, according to a 52Audio leak, expected to look way more like the AirPods Pro then they do the second-generation AirPods. That means shorter stems and a design with swappable silicone ear tips. Basically, the new models should have a more secure fit than previous AirPods.

They could have some AirPod Pro features.

According to Bloomberg, it’s unlikely that the third-generation AirPods will have many of the AirPods Pro’s premium features, such as noise-canceling and transparency modes. However, the new AirPods might support “spatial audio.” This uses the built-in accelerometer and gyroscope in each earbud and adjusts the audio depending on the position of each ear. It’s big upgrade for those watching a video or movie on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.

It’s unclear if support for spatial audio would also mean that the third-generation AirPods would support for immersive sound technologies, like Dolby Atmos, just like the AirPods Pro. It would be cool, though.

Better touch controls are likely.

One of the biggest improvements that the AirPods Pro have over the AirPods is its touch controls. While AirPods require you to double-tap an earbud to play audio, skip songs or initiate Siri, the AirPods Pro have actual force sensors on each earbud that you can actually feel — they’re great. These same force-sensor controls are expected to be featured on the third-generation AirPods.

They might not be coming until late this year.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known Apple leaker, the third-generation AirPods aren’t likely to be released until later this year. They were likely set to be announced (or even released) in March 2021, but the pandemic pushed everything back; now, mass production of these new AirPods allegedly isn’t set to begin until the third quarter of 2021. This means that you likely won’t be able to get your hands on these next-generation AirPods until the early fall.

7 Effective Content Marketing Tactics to Drive Traffic to Your Website

As of 2019, the total number of online websites was 1.72 billion. The growth has been steady since 2004 as the Internet became more available. More so, the dynamic marketplace has contributed to the increase in numbers.

We are talking about a high demand for convenient online shopping, businesses using websites to enhance their competitiveness, and much more. Web owners are using digital marketing strategies to increase their conversions and sales, and content marketing is among the most effective strategies they are employing.

Content is the lifeblood of websites, and businesses have dedicated their efforts to grow their traffic for the benefits that come with it. Consistent posting of fresh and relevant content is among the success factors for thriving websites.

Content is king, and it is the fuel for digital marketing success. The following content marketing tactics have worked for big brands and can work for you too.

1. Broadcast Emails

Emails allow communication with multiple prospects at a go. Engaging an audience that you have already worked with will bring faster results. For instance, if you have an essay writing service, you can create a broadcast email that introduces a new feature like online essay reviews or research paper outline development.

By sharing a link with your clients or students you have worked with before, you will get more positive responses. Familiarity puts you in a better position for getting engagement from your audience.

The strategy is also useful for unfamiliar audiences, provided you send the emails at the right time when they are more likely to click.

2. Paid Advertising

Some of the world’s largest corporations have used and keep using paid ads. A whopping 146.92 billion dollars is the revenue Google made in 2020 from advertising alone. Both small businesses and the large corporations that have used the Google Ads platform have a success story to tell.

For example, Sitara Foods decided to leverage Google Ads to drive more traffic to their website by boosting their visibility and brand awareness globally. Today, the business gets three times more than the sales they were making, with 90% of their international sales coming through Google Ads.

Butterfield Market and Catering is yet another Google Ads success story. The family-owned business was founded in 1915 and has even served renowned customers like the Rockefeller family. Despite their interaction with influential persons, the company had not expanded over time.

Butterfield Market and Catering decided to vamp up their websites and started using Google Ads. In less than two years of using the paid ads, they had already experienced a 40% growth. The business expanded from having a grocery store to having a separate catering unit and a bakery. Now, the business has several branches spread across New York City.

This tactic will allow you to enhance your outreach and bring attention to your new content. Paid ads have helped countless small businesses grow and expand.

3. Use Your Best Posts

By looking at the click-through rates and dwell time of the different pages on your website, you can identify the posts that bring the most traffic to your website. Promoting old content can draw attention to your newer posts.

You can refurbish an article and add a link to it. Alternatively, you can add a link at the end of the post and highlight it as a ‘related post.’ If your old post has been generating substantial traffic, it can also promote the new ones.

Republishing your successful blog posts can help other pages get the desired traffic.

4. Make Your Content Shareable

To bring attention to a new piece of content, you need to ensure that as many people as possible can see it. Making your content shareable is a good approach. Whether you are posting on your website or social media platforms, add share buttons that will lead to other platforms.

For instance, if you are posting on Twitter, you can add buttons that will lead users to your Instagram and Facebook pages.

This will increase your reach by making your blog posts visible across multiple platforms. For your audience to click on the share button, however, they have to be impressed. Write articles that appeal to the interests of the audience and are useful.

5. Use Hashtags

Hashtags are a great way to promote new content. For instance, you can leverage hashtags for trending topics to boost your reach. Hashtags will also have them categorized and presented to the targeted audience.

Another way of going about this is by contributing to trending topics. This way, you will put yourself in front of the eyes of a massive audience. However, look for hashtags that are closely related to your niche.

6. Guest Post

Provided you are confident that you can write something of high quality, you can write for other websites to promote your latest or even old posts. Start by looking for authority websites in your niche. Remember that you cannot write for competitors.

A business that provides complementary goods or services would be ideal. For instance, if you are selling auto insurance, you can approach a car sales website. Here, you will get users likely to be interested in your products.

Include a call to action to drive traffic to the new material.

7. Leverage Social Media

Social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook have over one billion users. Using influencers and paid ads there can draw significant traffic to your content. You can also generate organic traffic to your new page by posting on social media regularly and using the right hashtags.

Use different mediums, be it infographics or videos, and attach a link to your website. For social media to bring good results, establish the right time to post. The off-peak time is the best as your material will not be overshadowed by posts from other users.

Also, establish the time when your audience is active on socials for effective promotion.

Conclusion

Consistent content creation is essential to the success of your digital marketing campaigns. Ensure that your information is visible through the strategies above.

Broadcast emails will help you reach out to people you have worked with before. Paid ads will enhance your reach and can be used to target a specific audience.

Reshare old posts that may have amassed massive traffic before to bring attention to your new posts. Guest blogging is an effective way of reaching people in your niche and directing them to your website.

Share on social media, use hashtags, and include share buttons. The combination of the strategies above will go a long way in driving traffic.

The New Sonos Roam: Everything You Need to Know About the Super-Portable Speaker

It’s here. Sonos just announced the Sonos Roam, the smallest and most portable speaker in the company’s history.

Roughly the size of a water bottle and weighing less than a pound, the long-awaited Roam costs $169. It works like most portable speakers, packing Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities — but can also function as part of a larger Sonos system, and supports Airplay 2, as well.

All in all, it’s a highly-mobile package that should make for a obvious addition to any existing Sonos system, or a great gateway drug for anyone who is thinking about building one out. Here’s everything you need to know about the Roam.

Sonos Roam

Sonos sonos.com

$169.00

The Roam is available for pre-order from Sonos right now, for delivery on April 20th. Choose from either black or white finish.

It’s built to sound like a Sonos One.

We haven’t heard it yet, but the Roam is decked out with one custom racetrack mid-woofer, one tweeter, two Class-H amplifiers – and is designed to sound like the Sonos One.

It’s a 180-degree speaker, not 360, so it’ll sound best pointed in a specific direction, not in the middle of a room. But it’ll tune itself for optimal sound in a horizontal or vertical position. It can be configured in a stereo pair…but only with another Roam.

It can charge wirelessly or by USB-C.

The Roam can charge two different ways: USB-C or Qi wireless charging. It ships with a USB-C cable and compatible adaptor.

Sonos also will sell a magnetic charging stand for the Roam, which holds it in place while it charges. This charging stand will be sold separately and cost $49.

The Roam has a 10-hour battery life.

Sonos says that the Roam will have a 10-hour battery life. When you’re not playing music, it’ll automatically fall asleep and go into a low-power mode, where it can snooze for up to 10 days.

It’s not afraid of the water.

The Sonos Roam has an IP67 water-resistance rating, meaning it can be submerged in three feet of water for 30 minutes. This is about as waterproof as portable Bluetooth speakers tend to get.

It works with your Sonos system, but not in a home theater setup.

Just like its bigger brother, the Move, the Roam can’t be integrated into a Sonos home theater system. It can only be configured as a stereo pair with another Roam speaker, or integrated into a larger multi-room Sonos system.

It seems like a no-brainer to expand (or start) any Sonos system.

At first glance, the Roam seems like it should be a great option for anybody who wants a small portable speaker and also has other Sonos speakers at home. We haven’t tried it in person yet, but its ability to play nicely with an existing Sonos setup makes it a more valuable buy than virtually any other Bluetooth speaker of its size and price range.
