Singer Reimagined Presents The Highly Exclusive Track1 DLS Edition Chronograph

When you count yourself as one of the fortunate few who now own one of the 75 planned restorations dubbed the Singer Vehicle Design Dynamics and Lightweighting Study (DLS), Singer Reimagined has something cool in mind To match your classy Porsche 911, the brand’s watchmaking arm presents the Track1 DLS Edition.

Talk about exclusivity here, as not just anyone can grab this snazzy timepiece. As for the pricing, Singer Reimagined Is keeping that under wraps. Anyway, only the owners of the highly limited resto-mod can purchase the chronograph in the first place. So, let’s hope they spill the beans when the time comes.

For now, let’s get the know the Track1 DLS Edition and check out what it brings to the table. Starting with the forged carbon pilot-style case, it measures 43 mm x 15 mm including the sapphire crystal. As you can see, there are cutouts close to the lugs to shave off some weight.

The dark composite material then gets some contrast from polished grade 5 titanium hardware. You’ll find it on the bezel, case back, crown and pushers. The gray dial shows vertical brush patterns and hands in black/orange. Initially, we were puzzled as to how its chronograph functions work.

If you look closely, Singer Reimagined uses the outer rings to tell the hour and minutes. As for the central three hands, these are for the chronograph. The Track1 DLS Edition runs on a Singer 6361 AgenGraphe self-winding movement with a 60-hour power reserve.

The images show the default style which uses a textile strap in dark green. The screw-down rivets are grade 5 titanium and it uses a folding clasp closure. The privileged folks qualified to buy the Track1 DLS Edition can personalize it to match their car’s colorway.

Adidas X Pharrell Williams Gives The Humanrace Sichona A Bold Royal Blue Colorway

Comfort is undoubtedly what you look for when buying your apparel. It doesn’t matter if it’s for casual, formal, or athletic use. As long as it looks good, performs as advertised, and delivers outstanding ergonomics, people are going to buy it. To illustrate, we have the Adidas x Pharrell Williams Humanrace Sichona.

The musician and the German activewear company have been pumping out cool collaborations for a while no. Thus, we something new like the Humanrace Sichona drops, sneakerheads usually freak out. This new silhouette under the Adidas x Pharrell Williams line promises to deliver a feeling of freedom.

What makes that possible is the Futurenatural technology within the Royal Blue Primeknit upper. If you’ve tried one of Adidas’ kicks that uses the material, then you’ll know that it feels snug like sock. Moreover, just like the latter, it doesn’t impede the natural movement of your feet.

Royal Blue rope laces thread through knitted eyelets and stop just short of the knitted collar. An extra pair in yellow ships with it in the box. Then, you have a Clear Aqua tongue tag with the three stripe branding in white. The medial section of the Humanrace Sichona does not have any accents for a minimalist appeal.

Meanwhile, the lateral side of the midfoot section sports a Humanrace print in red. Just below the breathable upper is a Royal Blue polyurethane midsole which tapers into a dorsal fin type of element with the “Hu” badge on the heel.

Last, but not least, is the Royal Blue synthetic outsole with the Humanrace stamp. The Humanrace Sichona drops on August 27, 2021. It will retail for approximately $180 and is only available in a Royal Blue/Easy Coral/Clear Aqua colorway.

AVI-8 Honors The P-51 Mustang And A Renowned Pilot With The Hitchcock Automatic

Aviation-inspired design remains a popular theme used by some of the world’s leading watchmakers. There is no clear-cut blueprint that defines this style, which encourages creativity, and we want it to stay that way. With a name like AVI-8, you know this brand means business. To showcase their love for iconic aircrafts of the past, we have the Hitchcock Automatic.

image

There are four variants available for this striking collection: Cooperstown, Greentree, Meadow Brook, and Sands Point.  AVI-8 says the Hitchcock Automatic is a tribute to Thomas “Tommy” Hitchcock Jr. He was a national polo champ and member of the Lafayette Escadrille unit.

Moreover, the man was a key contributor to the development of the legendary P-51 Mustang fighter plane during World War II.  AVI-8 goes with a 43-mm stainless steel case with a brushed finish. The crown guard supposedly echoes the engine exhaust of the aircraft it honors.

The fixed bezel holds a sapphire crystal that protects the striking dial below. We love the distressed metal finish that essentially makes each watch unique. They did a wonderful job with the visuals of the Hitchcock Automatic here.

There is a mix of applied indices, cutouts for the Arabic numerals, and the raised minute track give it a lot of character. These all tie in to make it look like a vintage flight instrument used in cockpits before digital clusters took over.

The skeletonized hands and date window at 6 o’clock run on a an NH35 self-winding movement. Meanwhile, the sapphire crystal on the exhibition case back is printed with the words “Ten Goal Tommy” in a vibrant font. Finally, the Hitchcock Automatic sports a padded leather strap based on the seats of the P-51 Mustang.

Nike Goes For Another Collaboration With The Travis Scott x Fragment Air Jordan 1 Low

The gang is back at it again following the success of their recent collaboration. We have Nike, Travis Scott, and Fragment Design to thank for their cool take on the Air Jordan 1 High. If you missed out, then that’s too bad. For those who don’t mind another silhouette then you’re in luck because we’re getting the Travis Scott x Fragment Air Jordan 1 Low.

Hiroshi Fujiwara has been very busy since the start of the year. It shows with the growth of his catalog of partnerships. Who knows? Perhaps after the Travis Scott x Fragment Air Jordan 1 Low, there might be another on the way.

Anyway, Nike describes its latest foray as a prime illustration of the “rule of three” and we agree. The trio comes together to give this popular sneaker their respective artistic touches. It retains the iconic retro look with its premium leather upper in white, with black overlays, eyestays, and mudguards.

Shades of Military Blue are on the heel, collar, lining, insole, and outsole. The Travis Scott x Fragment Air Jordan 1 Low then features laces, a reverse Swoosh logo on the lateral sides, and an aged midsole in the shade of sail. The Swoosh logos on the medial sides are in black and are in the original direction. We also like how they are keeping the co-branding subtle here.

Fujiwara’s signature serial numbers are printed on the medial part of the midsole close to the heel. There’s also the double lightning bolt emblem on the right heel just below the classic Air Jordan badge on the right sneaker. Meanwhile, the left one shows a Cactus Jack branding on the heel counter with the logo right below. The Travis Scott x Fragment Air Jordan 1 Low are available now.

Boxers vs. Boxer Briefs: Is One Style Really Better Than the Other?

A decades-long battle over whether boxers or boxers briefs are better culminated in… confusion. In 2021, we’re left wondering which really are better? And what exactly does better mean here? The style of underwear you layer beneath your bottoms is ultimately up to you, but some boast benefits others don’t. Care to find out more? Keep reading.

First, let’s have ourselves a history lesson. In 1929, Jockey, then called the Cooper Underwear Company, introduced a one-piece undergarment they called the Singleton. It had shorts that extended to mid-thigh and an upper half that looked like a tank top. Of course, it was an entirely different design, but it served as a precursor for products to come. Namely, briefs, which they debuted under their new name, Jockey, in 1935. It offered support similar to that of a jockstrap, hence the name, but offered better coverage. To put it simply, your ass wasn’t out in the wind.

Months later, Jockey dropped the Midway Brief, better known as the boxer brief — the first of its kind, my research suggests. It featured a Y-front inherited from the shorter brief, fabric that covered the buttocks, and a skin-tight fit through the hips and thighs. These certainly weren’t made of performance fabrics, but they were a serious upgrade nonetheless.

As evident by the information above, John Varvatos did not invent the boxer brief during his brief — get it? — stint as head of Calvin Klein‘s menswear collection, contrary to popular belief. Klein’s print ad starring Mark Wahlberg, however, did turn the style into a household name. The fire sparked by cameos in 1980’s American Gigolo and Giorgio Armani ads was finally fully lit. American men suddenly were infatuated with boxer briefs.

But what made them better than plain boxers, which had, at this point, been around since 1925? Well, for starters, compression keeps things in place — and the general public from having to see men adjust their undercarriage every few seconds. Founded by then owner of Everlast, Jacob Golomb, boxers were worn by… boxers. Compared to leather bottoms, they offered flexibility and proved less heavy. A natural split between boxers and boxer briefs grew, dividing wearers generationally and regionally. Older men, but those with military experience, in particular, were used to boxers. City dwellers targeted by trendier ads gravitated toward briefs.

By the 1970s, young folks who favored the looser fit made up a minority of underwear shoppers. That was until 1975 when Nick Kamen stripped down to his Sunspel boxers in an ad for Levi’s 501 jeans. In the same year, Sears let an unfortunate mishap slip into their seasonal catalog: a man modeling boxers seemed to be, well, hanging out. Sears denied it, citing a mere editing issue, but the formed lore worked in the style’s favor. (So did the sexy Levi’s ad.) Boxer sales surged. But, they’ve declined ever since. The rise of novelty underwear, the boxer brief as a fair compromise, and DTC brands marked nail after nail in the archaic icon’s coffin.

That being said, I can hear it now, the fervent few still clinging to their boxers sounding off in the comments section below: “Boxers are better! They’re more comfortable, more breathable, and not as tight. They’re more mature! They don’t lower your sperm count!” Is there any validity here or is this some boxer cut conspiracy theory you’ve yet to uncover? Well, sort of.

A Harvard study published in 2018 claims tighter underwear — namely briefs made from synthetic materials — may lower a sperm-producing man’s count by up to 25-percent. Something to consider if you’re interested in conceiving? Certainly. Cause for an absolute freakout? Absolutely not. “These results point to a relatively easy change that men can make when they and their partners are seeking to become pregnant,” Lidia Mínguez-Alarcón, lead author and research scientist at Harvard’s Chan School says.

Looser-fitting boxers aren’t for everybody. Neither are boxer briefs, no matter how flattering they typically are. In the same ways we gravitate toward certain mugs in the morning and blankets at day’s end, underwear remains a matter of seemingly innocuous personal preference. After all, few people see them, and switching your allegiance from one style to another will go largely unnoticed.

Adidas Promotes Sustainability With The No-Dye Collection Of Golf Footwear

In its quest for sustainability, Adidas has been making headway with the help of new manufacturing methods. Committed to a greener future, its efforts have led to a partnership with Parley for the Oceans. The goal here is to minimize unnecessary wastes and reduce carbon emissions. To promote this movement, we have the No-Dye Collection of golf footwear.

As long as you have no problems with gear in lighter shades, then Adidas has nailed the formula right here. As the name of the capsule suggests, the company intends to cut the water-intensive part of the production process. This refers to the pre-treatment phase textiles undergo before the dyes are applied.

For the No-Dye Collection, Adidas presents three of its silhouettes to promote the eco-friendly initiative. We have the ZG21 Motion, ZG21 Motion BOA, and Adicross ZX PRIMEBLUE. You’ll notice that the first two are the same model with different closure systems.

The ZG21 Motion and ZG21 Motion BOA cater to users who want to try out which one feels more comfortable on their feet. Meanwhile, the Adicross ZX PRIMEBLUE does away with the spikes in favor of Adidas’ Traxion outsole and signature Torsion bar to add power to your swings.

In keeping with its plans for minimal impact on the environment, Adidas is using 50% recycled content for the uppers of the No-Dye Collection. We can say that the natural colors of textiles look great with the Halo Mint elements for contrast.

“We’re continually evaluating ways to reduce our environmental impact when it comes to our products,” said Adidas Golf global director of footwear Masun Denison. “With this collection, we’re giving golfers another reason beyond just style and performance to feel good about the shoes they’re wearing.” The No-Dye Collection are available now.

This One-Off Montblanc 1858 Geosphere Pink Dial Unique Piece Is Heading To Auction

Most high-end watchmakers often keep the number of examples down for that air of exclusivity. These serialized models are what collector’s wait for and snap up once available. Then there are the one-offs that are highly sought-after for their bespoke sophistication. Montblanc is showing its support for breast cancer awareness by building the 1858 Geosphere Pink Dial Unique Piece.

The Hamburg, Germany-based luxury brand is participating in a charity auction along with the other prestigious names. We count timepieces from MB&F, Panerai, Bulgari, IWC, and Zenith who have respective entries for the Pink Dial Project initiative.

Hosting the event in October is Loupe This — a new bidding platform established by distinguished watch collector Eric Ku. Circling back to Montblanc’s 1858 Geosphere Pink Dial Unique Piece, we’re looking at a 42 mm titanium case in a coat of black DLC.

Also, the stealthy tone gets its contrast from the bright fuchsia pink of its dial. Depending on your viewing angle, the sunray finish creates a dynamic effect on the shade. Other striking elements include the two domed hemisphere globes, a secondary time zone sub-dial at 9 o’clock, and a date window at 3 o’clock.

Montblanc then gives the Arabic numeral hour markers, globes, bezel compass indications, a coat of blue Super-LumiNova. Meanwhile, the hands and rest of the indices are in green. Everything is running on the manufacturer’s MB 29.25 automatic calibre with a 42-hour power reserve.

The 1858 Geosphere Pink Dial Unique Piece caseback features a laser engraving of iconic Mont Blanc peak, a wind rose compass, and the Pink Dial Project badge. 100% of the proceeds from the auction go to charities based in Australia, Holland, Singapore, the US, Switzerland, and the UK.

UNDONE x Astro Boy Chronograph: Commemorating 70 Years Of The Android Hero

image

What started out as an entertainment niche in Japan has now become mainstream across the world. Manga and its animated works we know as “anime” continue to be a hit across all age groups. As such, our favorite watchmaker is eager to pay tribute to one of the most beloved characters of all time. Meet the UNDONE x Astro Boy.

Created by the “Father of Manga” Osamu Tezuka, Mighty Atom as the Japanese call him went on to become a hit across the globe. Most of us still hold fond memories of the Android boy as he fought against those who would bring harm to his friends. Thus, UNDONE is commemorating the 70th anniversary of the lovable hero in the most awesome way possible.

UNDONE x Astro Boy

image

The timepiece comes in a 42.5-mm 316L stainless steel case with a coat of black DLC. It measures 48 mm lug-to-lug and 12.10 mm from the sapphire crystal of the face to the other on the exhibition cashback. UNDONE indicates that the bezel is forged carbon fiber for that lightweight toughness and an homage to Mighty Atom’s composite material construction.

Within the blackout body is a translucent dial with gridlines that hosts three sub-dials at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. The small seconds auxiliary dial shows an image of Astro Boy’s head with the other half of his face showing the sophisticated robotics within. We can also see a date window in between the 4 and 5 o’clock hour markers.

UNDONE notes that this is their first model with a dual time zone function. You’ll find a secondary crown marked by a green band at 10 o’clock which rotates the inner bezel with Arabic numerals. A green outer ring separates this from the minute track and baton hour markers.

Turn off the lights to see another visual spectacle as the lumes in blue and green glow softly. The UNDONE x Astro Boy runs on a Japanese TMI VK63 Mechanical-Quartz Hybrid Flyback Chronograph movement supplied by Seiko. Finally, you have a user-replaceable 22-mm black Cordura strap with a black metal buckle.

Early Adopter Perks

To give fans another reason to snap it up as soon as possible, the first 300 units will ship as a limited-edition bundle. Each UNDONE x Astro Boy chronograph is serialized for collectors and includes cool extras. There’s the premium packaging, an acrylic art piece, and a white silicone strap with Astro Boy badging. Mood Board to Moneymaker: How Instagram Pages Turn Into Brands

Instagram accounts aplenty — @hidden.ny, @jjjjound, @seereverseforcare, @yungwatergun — curate what many call “mood boards.” Better explained as ever-growing visual archives spanning reference images, snippets from runway shows, paparazzi photos of particularly memorable pop culture moments, music videos, and sports highlights, they’ve become quite the sensation — and scalable resource.

“Anything can become a mood board,” the anonymous poster behind account @archivings.stacks said in an interview. “I don’t see my account as a mood board necessarily. It’s just a reference or the base of a thought and things catapult from there, a random stream of consciousness that’s based on what I see and appreciate in the moment.”

These random streams of consciousness flow together surprisingly seamlessly. On a Friday morning, for example, @hidden.ny might post a slideshow comprising portraits of planets without a caption. Hours later, they’ll post a picture of metallic green Jordan 1s — again, without a caption. But their crowd gets it. Every single upload is further context for what’s to come. It’s cumulative, curatorial work with, up until a few years ago, no clear end goal.

Nowadays accounts like @hidden.ny and @jjjjound can parlay Instagram posts into physical products. Namely, collaborations with much larger companies, pop culture icons, and other designers. And these usually sell out quick! Like, really quick. Because these Instagrammers have a better sense for what the streetwear consumer wants, the drops rarely flop.

But the hype can fade fast. Surprisingly, these pages don’t do much to slow it down. Alongside a post promoting their own drop, @hidden.ny will introduce another collab coming out the same week from two totally different designers. In the world of uber competitive consumerism, spotlighting someone else’s product while you still have inventory left to sell might seem like a cardinal sin. But, by no means are they undermining their own launch.

The account’s followers understand the role a page like theirs plays. It’s a melting pot of what’s new, what inspired it, and who wore it — with a mix of humor and a hefty dose of hedonism. You’re supposed to feel inspired by their posts; encouraged to ogle at the nice cars and fancy clothes; prompted to shop a brand-new release; doomed to compare covetable streetwear drops you don’t own to the items you do.

Is it the fault of any of these pages that the Internet’s turned into one giant shopping mall? No. But, they’ve proven something: if you can captivate an audience you can surely turn them into consumers. It’s why brands like Aimé Leon Dore, Rowing Blazers and Knickerbocker run mood boards, too: Source (formerly Leon Dore), @rbmoodboard, and @knickerbockersocialclub respectively.

These may be a bit more focused, but they provide behind-the-scenes access to the brains behind the brand: what they like, why they gravitate toward a certain style over another, and who they look up to. Further, they’re a way to occupy space in the feed of someone who actively avoids advertising. On the occasion when they do cross-promote, it’s in the context of the other posts — a part of the puzzle rather than a glaring interruption.

These few brands may be doing it the other way around, but it’s clear, evident by @hidden.ny and the herd that follows, a transition from mood board to brand remains entirely possible and plenty profitable. Look no further than @jjjjound’s New Balance 990v3, a $285 dollar shoe at launch that’s listed for $4,875 on StockX two years later.

Fortis Crafts The Elegant Flieger F-41 Midnight Blue Out Of Recycled Steel

Efforts to promote sustainability appears to have a positive effect on a wide range of industries. While all the publicity seems to be in the direction of automotive companies and their push for electrification, it’s easy to miss out on other awesome initiatives. One example is the Flieger F-41 Midnight Blue from Fortis – a robust yet eco-friendly tool watch.

Recycling has always been associated with materials such as aluminum and plastics. However, other discarded metals such as steel can find new life in a stylish timepiece. Fortis offers the Midnight Blue in two sizes, but we’ll discuss the 41 mm version for now. Both share the same features anyway.

As indicated earlier, the Flieger F-41 Midnight Blue boasts a case and caseback crafted out of recycled steel. Unless somebody tells you so, there’s no way for anyone to know that your wrist candy is an advocate for the environment. Its bi-directional bezel is concave which you rarely see these days.

Although Fortis uses sapphire, which is durable enough to withstand impacts from daily use, the bezel adds a welcome layer of protection. Beneath the crystal is a striking dial in the shade of its namesake with a vertical brushed finish. A date window with an orange outline sits at 3 o’clock.

Super-LumiNova with a blue afterglow keep the hand and hour markers visible in the dark. The Flieger F-41 Midnight Blue runs on Fortis’ UW-30 self-winding movement with a 38-hour power reserve. Aside from the recycled steel, the indigo genuine cow leather aviator strap is also sourced sustainably.

Chanel Monsieur Superleggera Edition: An Elegant Automotive-Inspired Timepiece

Chanel is a French luxury label that many of us somehow associate with fragrances. This means we have most likely overlooked the fact that they have more to offer. Thankfully, we did not miss out on the Monsieur Superleggera Edition announcement. We almost forgot the brand also builds striking timepieces with unique elements.

After some digging around, we’re thinking this is a spiritual successor to the 2005 J12 Superleggera. Only this time, it’s now under Chanel’s Monsieur collection of fine watches. As the name suggests, the fashion house is going for an automotive theme which it executes with subdued elegance.

What makes this model stand out are the complications used by the Monsieur Superleggera Edition. The timekeeping layout may be similar to the rest of the catalog, but the presentation is unique. Let’s start off with the 42-mm black ceramic case which is accompanied by a steel bezel, caseback, and crown.

Sapphire crystals on both ends give it superior protection and visibility. You can view the Chanel Calibre 1 manual movement which boasts a 72-hour power reserve from the underside. Next up is the dial which resembles the instrument panel of a vehicle.

It may look complex at first but reading the time on the Monsieur Superleggera Edition is actually quite simple. The jumping hours window sits at 6 o’clock while the retrograde minute indicator stands right above. Guilloche machine engravings designate these two sections of interest.

The seconds reside within the sub-dial in the middle. Chanel then gives the Monsieur Superleggera Edition a sporty nylon strap adorned with black calfskin leather at the edges and a vibrant crimson inner lining. Dominated by darker tones, it gives the timepiece a stealthy and sexy profile.

The New Balance Niobium Concept 2 Can Switch Between A Trail-Ready Sandal Or Mule

When you’re ideal summer activity is hitting the trails and taking a dip in remote spots away from the crowd, then read on. No matter how difficult it is to travel right now due to the pandemic, the spirit of adventure lives on. New Balance wants to equip you for the journey with its Niobium Concept 2.

With the controversy surrounding wearing sandals with socks, we’re not planning on angering the fashion critics around us. New Balance probably knows it too and thus creates a hybrid footwear that straddles the fine line between shoe, sandal, and something else.

The Niobium Concept 2 may look like your average trail-ready sneaker, but it’s apparently not. New Balance even refers to it as a sandal in the product description. We’re not going to debate with the manufacturer because these sandals can transform into mules in a jiffy.

Moreover, you can quickly detach the heel strap via the Velcro closures on each side. Still, we recommend you keep these on when trekking over rough terrain. The breathable mesh and suede leather upper keep the Niobium Concept 2 snug yet comfortable.

For the best fit, just adjust the buckle fasteners. It’s outdoor-ready thanks to the Fresh Foam Hierro midsole with Vibram outsole. New Balance likewise adds reflective accents on the heels and toes to aid in low-light visibility.

New Balance really did a great job with the design here. There are two colorways available for the Niobium Concept 2. We prefer the darker tones on the Pigment with natural indigo variant, but the Incense with chocolate brown is just as stylish. As of this writing, the Snow Peak version is no longer in stock.

Carry Items In Style With The Louis Vuitton Coffee Cup Pouch

You don’t have to be a coffee lover to get your hands on the  Louis Vuitton Coffee Cup Pouch. Use it to pack your everyday small on-the-go necessities in style. Or if you’re feeling brave why not a cup of coffee to bring justice to its name.

This luxury item is part of the Everyday LV capsule and unveiled at the Fall-Winter 2021-22 Show. Its design plays at the elements of everyday morning routines, like grabbing a cup of coffee at a cafe on the way to work or school. Designer Virgil Abloh patterned it after an oversized coffee cup, which you can carry by hand or wear as a sling bag.

The Louis Vuitton Coffee Cup Pouch uses cowhide leather trim finished off with the brand’s iconic vintage monogram all around its body. To go along with the brown color scheme, it features matte brown color hardware from the double-zip closures, zip tags, adjustable straps, and buckles. Then it has white for the lid and the “louis vuitton” print on the front

This hardly falls under the sling bag category. Regardless, you can let your creativity and imagination conjure up ways to make it useful for your carrying needs. It only has one storage compartment after all. But the convenience of the strap being removable/adjustable means the pouch can probably double as a cup warmer.

The Louis Vuitton Coffee Cup Pouch is stylish, trendy, hip, and gender-fluid: it looks good for both boys and girls. It is for those with extra cash to spare as it is worth a whopping $3000.

4DFWD Pulse: Adidas introduces another pair of running shoes with 4D technology

A couple of years back, Adidas caught our attention when it announced its partnership with Parley for the Oceans. This collaboration brought about sustainable footwear that uses recycled plastic and other reusable materials. A few months ago, the 4DFWD made its debut and now we have a new model called the 4DFWD Pulse.

You can think of it as a spin-off of the original with enough tweaks to warrant a lineup of its own. It borrows just enough elements from the original but introduces a new silhouette and a more affordable price point. Although it may seem like a downgrade of sorts, these running shoes still pack the brand’s latest technology.

Adidas assures us that its eco-friendly initiative is not lost in the process. As such, the 4DFWD Pulse features the company’s Primegreen textile for the upper. It may not feel like the sock-like Primeknit on the original, but it provides a snug yet comfortable fit.

Years of running data give us the 4D midsole, which helps improve performance during your run. The activewear manufacturer uses a proprietary 3D printing system TO create the distinct lattice patterns you see on the heel cradle.

The angle is precision-engineered to cushion every impact and push you forward with every step. Then there’s the high-traction rubber outsole that grips almost every surface. The 4DFWD Pulse uses a lace closure system and features the Adidas badge on the tongue.

Three Stripes branding are visible on the midfoot section of the upper in both medial and lateral sides. A textured overlay on the heel counter extends all the way up to the heel tab. You can get the 4DFWD Pulse in four colorways.

Suunto’s sleek blackout Core Alpha Stealth watch works with night-vision goggles

When you need a reliable wearable for even the most challenging outdoor adventures, Suunto is a brand would talk about. For its newest release – the Core Alpha Stealth – it’s crafted with specific types of users in mind. According to the manufacturer, what sets it apart is how users can remain inconspicuous when the lights go out.

Aside from the military, we can think of law enforcement, hunters, and documentary filmmakers as those who will benefit from its discrete functionality. As the name already implies, the key feature here is superior visibility even in the absence of a light source.

This comes from the red backlight that illuminates the 2-inch dot matrix display. Even with a pair of night-vision goggles on, the Core Alpha Stealth will remain readable minus the blinding glare from other models. This is handy during tactical operations, hunting at night, and capturing skittish nocturnal wildlife on film.

Suunto says each watch undergoes a rigorous testing phase and meets demanding military standards. The 49.5-mm composite case is paired with an aluminum bezel and mineral crystal for lightweight durability. Despite the chunky outline, it only weighs 2.36 ounces.

Even with regular use, its user-replaceable CR2032 battery cell should last up to 12 months. A barometer, compass, and altimeter provide all the data you need when the situation calls for it. Moister is never an issue here as the Core Alpha Stealth boasts ingress protection up to 100 feet.

What makes this so appealing for us is the blackout colorway which lives to the monicker. To complete the tactical vibe, Suunto pairs the Core Alpha Stealth with a black NATO strap. It may look like one but take note that this is not a smartwatch.

Casio ignites nostalgia with the vintage look of the PAC-MAN-themed A100WEPC-1B

We’re no strangers to special collaborations between watchmakers and video game companies. In fact, TAG Heuer recently shook hands with Nintendo to feature their iconic mascot with the Connected x Super Mario. Capcom also promoted Street Fighter V on the Seiko 5. It’s time to take a trip down memory lane with Casio and PAC-MAN for the A100WEPC-1B.

Back when arcades were at the peak of their popularity, Namco’s (now Bandai Namco) hit was guzzling quarters like no tomorrow. Everybody wanted their initials to outrank everyone else for the top score. In fact. Talking about the ghost-gobbling gimmick is giving us flashbacks of the good old days before home consoles took over.

Casio is shipping this nostalgic number in a 40.7 x 32.7 x 9.2-mm resin case. As much as we prefer to showcase sophisticated mechanical timepieces, the A100WEPC-1B deserves some recognition. Capturing the essence of the original game, everything about it is a fantastic tribute to PAC-MAN.

The shiny golden tone frames two sections of the watch face which represent the maze players navigate around in. The top houses an LED-backlit digital LCD for timekeeping, here’s you’ll find the pellet-popping protagonist along with ghosts Blinky and Clyde.

The action continues below where you have four push-buttons alongside Inky and Pinky with a cherry bonus item. As you can see, Casio is paying attention to all the details here. As for the stainless-steel caseback, there’s an engraving of the original PAC-MAN game screen,

Casio completes the look with a black ion-plated bracelet with laser etchings of the game maze, PAC-MAN, and the ghosts. We believe the A100WEPC-1B would make an awesome addition to any watch collection. It’s shipping in special packaging including a display case holding the watch inside.

Six Mexican Brands You Should Know About

clothing

Courtesy

Staying on top of what’s in locally is a far more manageable feat than understanding scenes across the pond or past the southern border. However, the Internet has made accessing the menswear scene in Mexico City or the shirtmakers on Savile Row or the boot-making industry in Léon easier than ever. And, to be frank, you should be shopping from these independent brands over fast fashion stores anyway.

So, set your sights on a region and get to know the burgeoning brands there. Let’s look at Mexico, for example. In Oaxaca, there are artisan communities crafting American workwear out of vintage Mexican materials. In Mexico City, a bar-barbershop-boutique sells cowhide brogues of the utmost quality. In Léon, long-standing traditions inform modern booting silhouettes. This isn’t an exhaustive list detailing every brand there is to know from each of Mexico’s 32 states. Not even close. Instead, this is a starting place, a sampler to whet your appetite, a thread to pull. Six interesting Mexican brands spanning the outdoor industry, the psychedelics space, streetwear, and beyond.

Mucha Carne

From: Mexico City, Mexico

Founded: 2020

Focus: GORP/Outdoors

About: Although the brand caters to an outdoors-savvy clientele, Mucha Carne also makes clothing for “internal trips,” aka spiritual flights piloted by substances like acid, LSD or mushrooms.

Each item in the Mexico City-based brand’s catalog receives a name that references a person pertinent to psychedelics: a foldable trucker hat cut from water-resistant nylon that’s named after María Sabina, a Mazatec sabia who introduced Westerners to Mexican ceremonies involving Psilocybin mushrooms; a micro water-resistant ripstop pant (with a fidlock buckle and Japanese buttons) named after Terrence McKenna, an author, lecturer, and notable proponent of psychedelic substances; a not-so-subtle pair of bottoms with hidden pockets and embedded stretch called Psylocibin; a heavyweight belt with a magnetic buckle that name drops The Doors of Perception, a book about mescaline trips, author Aldous Huxley; and a Kangaroo pocket-equipped shirt that honors LSD creator and magic mushroom pioneer Albert Hofmann.

Casa Caballeria

From: Mexico City, Mexico

Founded: 2014

Focus: Footwear

About: A retail store with its own in-house footwear and apparel lines, Casa Caballeria was founded by Eduardo Dubost. Balancing Mexican design and eclectic, international influences, the shop acts as a barber, retailer, and bar.

The store is best known for its footwear, an eponymous collection of boots and shoes constructed from cowhide leather uppers, pig skin liners, and rubber soles. But that’s not all. One-off originals — tops, bottoms, accessories and beyond — they’ve made appear on the site, and in the shop, often.

Graziano and Gutiérrez

From: Oaxaca, Mexico and Portland, Oregon

Founded: 2020

Focus: Workwear

About: Originally launched as a part of co-founders Sam Graziano and Alejandro Gutierrez’s senior thesis, Graziano and Gutiérrez is a slow fashion brand dedicated to showcasing Mexican craftsmanship and classic workwear silhouettes. Focused on “providing a platform for Mexican artisan work, transparency and education, and environmental responsibility,” the duo designs seasons with only a few items, each handmade in either Oaxaca or Chiapas by artisan communities the company’s established long-term manufacturing partnerships with.

“The goal is to create pieces to preserve, honor, and share the incredibly rich heritage of Mexico while also providing a platform for the artisans’ work to shine,” the brand’s founders explain. “Working directly with these communities allows us to provide consistent fair-work and pay for them and teach our customers about Mexican traditions at large and, specifically, the communities that weave the fabrics used to make the clothing.”

Hermanos Koumori

From: Mexico City, Mexico

Founded: 2018

Focus: Streetwear

About: “If we just look at it from the outside, Hermanos Koumori is a contemporary streetwear brand based in Mexico City, but for us it is much more than that,” co-founder Alex Leon tells us. “We [Leon and co-founder Alejandro Sandler] see it as a studio that has the versatility to move through different areas like art, objects, literature and graphic design to name a few. We are passionate about stories and narratives, that is why for each one of our collections we create a fictional universe that helps us with the inspiration behind them.”

Hermanos Koumori’s collections have focused on a fictional airline imagined by a Mexican novelist, ancient running clubs, baseball and beyond. The clothing’s streetwear-leaning — suit separates made from ripstop fabric, natural cotton vests — but sensible still. Best of all, it’s designed to withstand everyday wear.

The Pack

From: Mexico City, Mexico

Founded: 2015

Focus: Luxury

About: Founded by Mexico City-born designer Patricio Campillo, luxury label The Pack reinterprets traditional Mexican menswear for a modern audience. Referencing how Charros (aka horsemen) used to dress, Campillo creates uniforms for Charros today: embellished jackets, flared pants, and embroidered footwear.

Preserving and challenging tradition, he plucks pieces from the past and tweaks them, freeing them from constraints imposed by gender identity. Campillo isn’t only socially conscious, though. He’s grown The Pack while maintaining commitments to both sustainable sourcing and artisan craftsmanship, adhering to fair trade standards for both.

Founded: 2011

Focus: Footwear

About: Hugo Fonce, designer for Unmarked, wants to spotlight craftsmanship found in Léon, Mexico, the country’s footwear capital. For Unmarked, lemon-wood pegs, invisible channels, leather-lining and intricate embroidery are details inherent to the brand.Emphasizing quality and aesthetics, every release is timeless in two ways: most are resoleable, thus prolonging their lifespan, and most are classic men’s styles with little chance of ever falling from favor. It’s hard to overstate how incredible Unmarked’s boots look and feel. Plus, their prices are incredibly fair given what they could charge.
