John Legend Talks Bespoke Suits by His Dad and More

John Legend is no sartorial rookie. The 12-time Grammy, one-time EGOT winner, told WWD that he’s “always had an interest in fashion,” and that “it’s part of my job in some ways.” It’s true. He’s fresh off a collaborative collection with Sperry, which includes three original designs: a slip-on loafer, a high-top sneaker, and a 10-eye boot. And as a high-profile celeb, his every move — and thus outfit — makes headlines, making what he’s wearing as much a talking point as what it is he’s doing.

As such, here we are: talking about both — but really, really quickly. Legend’s a busy guy, but he set aside a few minutes for us at his recent Sperry unveiling in L.A. We talked about personal style, his first suit (which was custom-made by his Dad), and what it was like to design shoes.

John Legend

On his personal style…

1.

“I think it depends on if I’m going on vacation or going to lunch with friends on the weekend or if I’m on stage. There are different moments for different expressions of my style.”

On timeless menswear…

2.

“I’ve always had a good sense for the classics and for tailoring and all those things, but also finding ways to make it more rockstar. I like finding a balance between classic shapes, classic silhouettes, classic tailoring and something more interesting and exciting.”

On dressing up again…

3.

“During COVID, a lot fewer suits were being worn. [Over the past year] I got more into casual wear, particularly during that time because everything was casual, but it’s nice to get dressed up again.”

On his first suit…

4.

“I’ve been wearing suits since my dad first made one for me when I was kid going to church. Both of my parents are tailors, and suits have always been very natural for me. It always feels good to put one on. You feel like you’re put together very well when you wear one.”

To design the Sperry x John Legend Collection, the singer-songwriter leveraged many of his own interests: combat boots, cars, travel, and, of course, clothing.

Stefanie KeenanGetty Images

On designing his new Sperry collab…

5.

“I was very involved with [Sperry’s] team, and we just went back and forth and exchanged inspiration. We gave them examples from my closet of things that I love and then we talked about the things we’ve done together before. We wanted to include historical Sperry elements but marry those with my sensibilities.”

Prep for Rainy Days with the Weatherman Travel Umbrella

Vacheron Constantin Calls For Adventure With The New Overseas Everest Collection

While most high-end timepieces are tough enough to withstand the occasional impact or accidental drops, owners prefer to wear them for more casual activities. There are others that prefer to push beyond the standards many consider when it comes to durability. Vacheron Constantin is doing just that with the latest Overseas collection.

The new lineup is called the “Everest” and consists of two variations: Chronograph and Dual Time. Even though both have a lot in common when it comes to aesthetics, their functionalities and more set them apart. As for which model to get, it entirely depends on your preferences. If it were up to us, one of each should do nicely.

Overseas Dual Time Everest

First up on our list for the Overseas collection is the Dual Time Everest. It features a 41-mm x 12.8-mm case that houses a matte grayish-blue dial. The outermost minute track ring is in the same shade, while the applied hour markers are a mix of sticks and batons.

You can tell the time back home via the orange hand and day/night indicator at 9 o’clock. Then there’s the date sub-dial at 6 o’clock. Powering the watch is Vacheron Constantin’s 5110 DT/2 self-winding movement with a 60-hour power reserve.

Overseas Chronograph Everest

When you want different timekeeping functions and a bigger silhouette, this is it. The case measures 42.5 mm x 13.7 mm with a similar outline as the other. The dial is still a matte grayish-blue affair but sports a mix of baton, stick, and square hour markers.

You can find a date window right in the middle of 4 and 5 o’clock with three chronograph sub-dials. A total of three hands are in orange to give it much some needed contrast. Inside, Vacheron Constantin equips it with the 5200/2 automatic caliber good for 52 hours on a full wind.

Vacheron Constantin Premium Craftsmanship

The most recent Overseas collection might not look like luxury watches at a glance, but the spec sheets say otherwise. It uses titanium and stainless steel for the case, while the dial boasts 18K gold elements. Moreover, the transparent sapphire crystal of its caseback shows the 22K pink gold oscillating weight.

The intricate designs vary between the two Everest models. Depending on your mood or outfit, swap between the gray rubber or blue Cordura fabric straps. Vacheron Constantin will be offering 150 examples of each adventure-ready Overseas Everest variant.

Hitting the Links Soon? You Need Some Fresh Golf Clothes

mr p golf

Mr Porter

As one of the few inherently socially distant activities, golf has seen a bit of a boom during the pandemic. Starting in June 2020, courses across the country saw a huge surge in rounds played. According to the National Golf Foundation, golf courses across the country saw a 22.8 percent increase in rounds played through the first six months of 2021 when compared to 2020. That is a lot of golf.

When it comes to hitting the links, it is almost just as fun to dress for the occasion as it is to actually play 18 holes. Golf clothes have traditionally been defined by the ill-fitting polos and baggy pleated khakis of the 80s and 90s, but the past decade or so has seen a recommitment to the sartorial side of the game. (Rickie Fowler’s head-to-toe orange outfit notwithstanding.) While we haven’t returned to the knee-high knickers of the early 20th century, we are seeing brands choose to work with a combination of traditional and technical, leaving you with a bunch of excellent options to choose from. With that in mind, we decided to round up some pieces from our favorite brands. Next time you head to the course, whether it’s your local muni or the country club, do it with style.

Keap Athletics Puts Other Pocket Shorts To Shame

When it’s hot out we easily reach for those comfortable pair of shorts during walks in the urban jungle. We also usually opt to wear them when working out or when in any physical activity or sports. But often we encounter storage problems especially if the pockets are either very shallow or too tight to reach in. We struggle to get items out or worry about losing them. Keap Athletics provides a solution to these common problems with practically designed pockets that ensure you keep your essentials with you no matter your movements.

Reach for The Active Short when you hit the gym, the track, the field, or the court. This is for activewear, as such, it is designed to move with you. It uses a four-way stretch material and features an athletic waistband. Yet it boasts a modern cut for an elegant look. Storage-wise, it gives you a zipped back pocket and a couple of front pockets that securely hold your phone, wallet, and other EDC.

However, for all-around versatile wear, you can find comfort in the Keap Athletics The Original Short. It combines functionality and comfort you can even sleep with it on. It boasts a classic cut with redesigned front opening pockets, that just like The Active Short, guarantees you don’t lose items stashed inside.

What makes both The Active and The Original Short stand out from any of its kind are the horizontally-cut deep pockets. They keep items safe and secure as they sit naturally away from the opening to prevent them from slipping as you sit or move around. Truly, Keap Athletics puts pockets to good use and not merely for aesthetics appeal.

REC Watches RNR Arkonik: Automotive-Inspired Watchmaking At Its Finest

image

Land Rover is an iconic British marque that supplies the automotive industry with rugged and expedition-ready vehicles. Among its lineup of tough rides, the Defender has amassed a cult following for years now. The model’s immense popularity makes it a perfect platform for aftermarket customizations. As such, REC Watches pays tribute to a mechanical masterpiece with an exclusive timepiece – the RNR Arkonik.

Given the difficulty of finding a classic that’s in pristine condition, most people turn to restomods. For its latest project, the Copenhagen, Denmark-based watchmaker draws more than just inspiration from a 1984 Arkonik Land Rover Defender 110 UJO. Before we dive in let’s give you a brief overview of the SUV that led to this awesome collaboration.

How The UJO Came To Be

image

As REC Watches tells it, the story began when Arkonik founder Andy Hayes arrived home from the hospital in 2006. Coming from a two-month recovery period after a motorcycle accident, his wife surprised him with a “Stratos Blue” 1984 Land Rover Defender 110. It was supposedly something he could work on as a hobby.

The “UJO” moniker apparently came from the last three randomized letters of the Defender 110’s plate number – “B379 UJO.” After a comprehensive restoration, Hayes took the SUV on a tour across Europe. By the end of his travels, the experience sparked the creation of the Arkonik brand. Now, you can own a piece of the legendary machine that started it all with the RNR Arkonik.

A Sophisticated Homage To A Stunning Ride

image

Much like their previous outings, REC Watches allows us to own an actual part of the vehicle they choose to feature. For the RNR Arkonik, they are sourcing it directly from the abovementioned 1984 Land Rover Defender 110 UJO. The result is nothing short of amazing as the design and accents are carefully curated to best represent the essence of this British-built beauty.

Let’s start with the 40-mm square case with rounded corners crafted out of 316L stainless steel. We love how they went with three different finishes: sandblasted, polished, and vertical brushed. It different textures of the surfaces endow the RNR Arkonik with a nice contrast when the light hits it from different angles.

What follows is the durable Viton (FKM) rubber bezel in the shape of a tire. You can also find it on the crown. Beneath the sapphire crystal, is the soul of this limited-edition production, which is an aluminum dial cut from the 1984 Arkonik Land Rover Defender 110 UJO’s door. After the metal panel was stripped of its paint and primer, 302 dials were punched out to become bespoke elements on the RNR Arkonik.

No further treatment was necessary as REC Watches wanted to keep scuffs and dents that the SUV accumulated over the years. The hour and minutes are indicated by two skeleton hands. Meanwhile, a small seconds sub-dial sits at 9 o’clock as It shares the spot with the date window. The REC branding is just below 12 o’clock with the Arkonik badge at above 6 o’clock. You then have the minute track on the flange with an orange outer ring.

Referencing The UJO

image

Next up are the design references to the 1984 Arkonik Land Rover Defender 110 UJO. Look closer to spot the hour markers at 12, 3, and 6 o’clock in the shape of a fuel cap. A view from the right flank of the case band reveals crown protectors that resemble the front grille. Make your way to the caseback to spot engravings laser-etched engravings of the chassis décor. Finally, the rear cover channels the alloy wheels.

At the heart of the RNR Arkonik is a Swiss-made Sellita SW290-1 self-winding caliber. This 31-jewel mechanical movement beats at the frequency rate of 28,800 VPH (4.0 Hz) and touts a 38-hour power reserve. To finish off the theme, the watch receives a blue Viton (FKM) rubber strap. REC Watches plans to produce only 302 examples, so order yours before all units are spoken for.

About REC Watches

image

Founded in 2014 by Jonathan Kamstrup & Christian Mygh, the brand lives by the concept of “RECOVER, RECYCLE, RECLAIM.” Thus, they’ve shortened it into “REC” and appended it “Watches” to showcase their passion for both. Since they source materials directly from the vehicle or aircraft featured, each release is a treat for collectors. Furthermore, this means no two timepieces are ever the same. Aside from the RNR Arkonik, you can check out other cool offers from REC Watches.

You Care About Your Clothes, Right? Reconsider Where You Store Them

freestanding garment rack

Yamazaki

I’m not ignorant to the fact that it’s a privilege to own “too many” clothes. I could get by with a few T-shirts, a pair of jeans, maybe two different options for my feet, and the jackets necessary to survive a winter in western Pennsylvania, where I live. But, I have six of the same shirt, each of which I rarely wear, far too many hoodies, a hell of a lot of pants, and enough shoes to outfit every pair of feet on a football team. (There are ~53 people on a football team.)

I try my best to donate what I really don’t wear, sell the stuff I’d rather not take a loss on, hand-me-down things I grow out of. We’ve got a handy guide for both donating and selling, if you’re interested. If not, and you’d rather hold onto every single article of clothing you’ve ever bought, it’s about time you invested in better places to store your collection.

Daydream with me. Look at all of the design-forward ways of hiding folded T-shirts, hanging ironed slacks, and organizing pairs of shoes. Some of these things come with a hefty price tag, but it’s worth splurging for a for the tidiness alone.

No, these don’t offer the privacy of an armoire, but they organize things just the same.

Coat Rack

A sleek, industrial option that doesn’t demand too much square footage.

Levy Clothing Rack

Two shelves and a top bar make room for clothes on hangers, folded pants and T-shirts, and shoes on UO’s Levy Clothing Rack.

Standing Coat Rack

Pottery Barn

Looking for one people won’t really notice? Pottery Barn’s is black, sleek, and not too big. You can’t really overcrowd this one.

Dressers play an irreplaceable role in the bedroom. They created the sock drawer and all of its cultural reference points, and it gives you room for everything you fold.

Mid-Century 6-Drawer Dresser

Mid-century? Mmmhmmmm. Six drawers give you enough space for underwear and socks and at least your T-shirt collection. Maybe some shorts and sweatpants, too.

Hunter Dresser

Rove Concepts

The Hunter Dresser is significantly nicer than anything you can haul home from IKEA. It has three big drawers with invisible handles.

Raleigh Six Drawer Dresser

The Raleigh Dresser from Design Within Reach, designed by Jeffrey Bernett and Nicholas Dodziuk, is an understated anchor for all of your essentials.

In the bedroom furniture universe, wardrobes are the big guns. You know the saying, “Bringing out the big guns?” Yeah, these are those.

Damien Wardrobe

Out of all of the “big guns,” this is the biggest. Made’s Damien Wardrobe is technically wardrobes in one. Being a “triple,” there’s enough room for the over-the-top collections.

Annie Charcoal Storage Cabinet

Crate and Barrel

Why go with a traditional rectangular wardrobe when there are rounded ones out there? This one comes by way of Crate and Barrel’s collaborative line with Leanne Ford, and it boasts four shelves for shoes, folded clothes, or even accessories like hats and watches (if they’re in their own box).

Cayman Armoire

Pottery Barn

Pottery Barn’s Cayman Armoire evokes calm, coastal living. Go ahead, purchase one. Conjure your own peace and quiet.

Jenson Shoe Cabinet

Made’s Jenson Cabinet might look just like other cabinets, but this one has slots and shelves designed specifically for shoes. They go in an accordion-like contraption that stores them vertically.

Duncan Trunk

If you’re the type who keeps shoes in their original boxes, one big trunk might work for your collection. The Duncan from Burke Decor doesn’t get in the away with internal shelves or drawers, letting you decide how and where things are stored inside.

Entryway Rack

Open Spaces

This one leaves ’em exposed to the audience, but at least they’ll be organized.

Vans Introduces The Outdoor-Ready UltraRange EXO Hi GORE-TEX MTE-2

Folks who love to skateboard are familiar with Vans for its rugged footwear and apparel designed for their choice of recreation. The activity is now considered a sport and even debuted as an event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. After years of supplying products for skaters, the brand is now catering to thrill-seekers of another kind with the UltraRange EXO Hi GORE-TEX MTE-2.

The name is certainly a mouthful, but it’s probably a gimmick to promote what could be its new lineup. Vans did not specifically call it one, this might be their first-ever outdoor-ready shoes to hit the market. As the manufacturer points out, “The UltraRange EXO Hi GORE-TEX MTE-2 is the continuation of this purpose-built, adventure-based mindset.”

There you have it. they’re hinting that you can do more than just skateboard in any weather with these rugged boots on. Nonetheless, we can’t help but wonder regarding their choice of materials for its construction. Everybody knows that suede does not play well with moisture, but there’s an abundance of it on the upper.

You have it on the vamp, eyestays, and overlays, which won’t last long under constant exposure to the elements. On the other hand, Vans claims the suede, textiles, and synthetics of the UltraRange EXO Hi GORE-TEX MTE-2 are water repellent. Only time will tell if they are indeed. Breathable GORE-TEX membranes ensure everything inside is dry and ventilated.

Aside from breathability, additional comfort comes from the zonal Primaloft insulation. You’ll find it on the toe, tongue, and collar to keep your feet warm. Next are the EVA foam sockliner and UltraCrush EVA midsole. Finally, the UltraRange EXO Hi GORE-TEX MTE-2 touts remarkable traction and grip from the All-Trac rubber compound of its outsole.

No Two Dials Of The Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Gold Crystal Will Ever Be Alike

How bespoke can watchmakers go? This is the question that plagues our affluent friends ask before they shop for their next wrist candy. When the price is not an issue, even the world’s leading brands will gladly build one according to your exact specifications. Hublot answers the call for one-of-a-kind luxury with the Spirit of Big Bang Gold Crystal.

There are practically endless ways to craft something unique. However, Hublot loves to push the boundaries when it comes to premium craftsmanship. Instead of just taking the easy way out and making a one-off model, they’re settling for cutting-edge methods in metallurgy. Yes, there is scientific wizardry at work here.

You might have already spotted it from the start given the murdered-out profile of the Big Bang Gold Crystal. Giving contrast to the almost all-black theme, are intricate yellow crystalline patterns set on the black backdrop of its dial. It is devoid of any markings save for the Hublot branding and “Swiss Made” text at 6 o’clock.

As the product page explains, to achieve this effect, Hublot dabbles in what many consider alchemy. In a way, it might seem like it, but the process involves 24-carat gold and extreme heat – 1947.52 degrees Fahrenheit to be exact. The precious metal’s vapors eventually merge as the temperature drops to create bespoke structures.

Only the perfect samples make it through a thorough selection, which is only 20% of each batch. Hublot presents the Big Bang Gold Crystal in a 42-mm black ceramic tonneau case. It boasts a combination of polished, satin, and matte finishes. Regulating its timekeeping is the HUB1710 self-winding caliber with a 50-hour power reserve. The timepiece is then paired to a black rubber/alligator leather strap with a deployant buckle clasp closure.

John Legend Helped Design These Tall-Ass Boots

Most big new releases from mass-market brands feel weirdly formulaic. X brand announces a few products and, without even seeing it, you know exactly what to expect. Jordan and a generational basketball sneaker; Timberland and burly, waterproof boots; Converse and a new colorway of the Chuck Taylor; and so on and so forth. But Sperry just broke the mold with their latest footwear

From the American sailing brand, you’d expect boat shoes and maybe duck boots — something water-friendly for sure. Instead, they’ve linked with singer, actor, producer and TV personality — oh, not to mention EGOT winner — John Legend, and his stylist David Thomas, for a suite of simpler footwear. Nothing groundbreaking; just good-looking, well-made slip-ons, sneakers, and boots.

Legend’s been a longtime fan of the brand, as well as an official ambassador for a little over a year. He’s curated special collections before, like the John Legend Edit, but these new shoes represent his first original designs.

“We wanted to include elements of historical Sperry items, but marry that with my own sensibilities and personal style. [Sperry] had never done a high boot like this before, and we — Dave Thomas and I — thought it’d be cool,” Legend tells us. “There are some elements that are familiar: familiar to me from other boots I’ve worn, but there are some loafer elements to it, too. Some of the shapes down near the bottom are reminiscent of a Sperry loafer in some ways, but with the high boot and the heavy sole.”

“We collaborated in the right way, starting with a blank slate and then capturing John’s spirit,” Sperry’s VP of Product and Design, Sean McDowell, says. “The results have pushed the brand to a sophisticated and premium level.”

The co-designed collection comprises a Top-Sider-turned-slip-on called the Plushwave Boat Shoe; a boat-shoe-meets-mid-height-sneaker, the Commodore; and our favorite, the hand-sewn, full-grain leather Vibram Lug Tall Boots. They’re a stark departure from the flat-footed dock loafers most of us know the brand for. The Tall Boots are interesting, and that’s more than can be said for a lot of Sperry’s shoes as of late. The magic’s there, hidden in the history of it all, but it takes an outsider’s sense of direction to find it and resurface it in the right way. See Noah and Sperry’s Croc Embossed Captain’s Oxford, Rowing Blazers’ Sperry Cloud collab, or the Premium CVOs by Beams Plus — and, of course, Legend’s booting debut. Collaboration, it seems, sparks innovation rather than repetitive interpolations of color or texture.

“Digging into the Sperry archive and reimagining their boat shoe; this is the first time this has happened with a collaboration and is something we are very proud of,” Thomas says. The process was trial-and-error, he adds, all about “taking their product apart and piecing it back together, adding and taking away.”

At this new luxury level, consumers get full-grain leather uppers, an obvious Vibram lug sole, a lambskin liner, waxed laces, laser-cut patterns meant to replicate the 360-degree laces on the Top-Sider and a fully functional medial zipper for easy removal. Plus, you can pick from a natural brown pair with a white outsole or a tonal black pair with a contrasting cream liner.

“A lot of the Sperry stuff in the past has been kind of leisurely and loungey, but this [boot] gives you the sense that you can go walk around the streets of Manhattan or maybe London or wherever with it. And that’s new territory for Sperry,” Legend says. “But I think the audience knows when it feels forced or when it feels like it’s not a good fit. I think they’ll see that this makes perfect sense.”

Both the black and brown boots are available now via Sperry and Nordstrom.

22+ Best Go-to Streetwear Brands For Men

One of the many things that keep constantly changing is fashion. In the world of style and glamor, trends come and go. Before you know it, what’s in now is out next.

But what people from all walks of life look for in shopping for clothes and even shoes is – comfort. Comfort without compromising style never goes out of trend and what’s synonymous with comfort is streetwear.

What is Streetwear/Skater Style?

So, what does streetwear or skater style mean exactly? Most of us as well as fashion connoisseurs find it hard to put it into words. But it’s simply the latest fashion revolution that has taken the fashion industry by storm. And it looks like it’s here to stay.

Interestingly, streetwear used to be exclusive to skater kids that it’s known as skater style. In today’s fashion landscape, a mashup of haute-couture and urban fashion graces the runways of Paris.

Hoodies, graphic tees, and pairs of sneakers become a pretty common sight in unveiling a fashion label’s latest collection. This crossover, according to some, gives birth to the term “streetwear”.

How to Sport the Streetwear Style?

To get that streetwear/skater style look, just keep in mind the following tips:

Streetwear has gained prestige in the world of fashion, all thanks to Stussy. Californian surfer Shawn Stussy established his streetwear empire with a small line of graphic t-shirts that became a hit in the 1980s.

This OG streetwear brand all started when he scribbled his name on his handcrafted surfboards using a marker pen. More than 40 years later, this scrawl graces hoodies and tees and expanded to skate and surf apparel.

The California-born brand has become a famous signature for its innovative and stunning designs. Today, Stussy is a popular streetwear brand with a strong following for its skater style line and urban fashion pieces.

Who wouldn’t recognize this massively popular OG streetwear label donned by celebrities like Justin Bieber, Michael Jordan, and Lady Gaga? Basically, no one.

Founded by James Jebbia, Supreme saw its very first store in downtown Manhattan in 1994. Supreme swiftly made a name for itself when it built its first store in New York.

Its unique store layout is consistent with its purpose to cater products to the skating community. Thus, it features an open space to allow skaters to skate around the store while shopping.

As the business grew, the company arranged a huge, frequent collaboration with premium brands like Levi’s, Rolex, and Louis Vuitton. This strategy has cleared the path for the Supreme logo to become a status symbol itself.

The company’s logo known as the Supreme Box is not only seen in the streets of NYC but around the globe with its multiple store outlets. Hailed as one of the world’s iconic streetwear brands of all time, Supreme became a billion-dollar brand in 2017.

If there’s Supreme in the US, there’s Palace in the UK. And Palace is known to be the twin brand of Supreme that almost enjoys the same high status in England.

Established in 2010, this young English streetwear brand saw its humble beginning as an underground imprint for tees and skateboard decks. Just after a decade, it’s now in the roster of esteemed labels in men’s fashion.

Palace’s aesthetic follows the lead of sportswear behemoths, Adidas and Reebok. As a matter of fact, the company often collaborates with these two.

You can find a mix of five-panel caps, tracksuits, velvet smoking crop jackets, and some occasional snakeskin loafers on their web store on drop day.

Off-White is highly coveted by hypebeasts for Abloh’s bold, unique prints and innovative fashion-forward creations. It takes pride in successfully blending haute-couture with culture.

Dubbed as sportswear king, this world-famous brand first became synonymous with sneakers. Nike receives credit for the rise of the sneaker culture. It’s the name that comes to mind when you think of sneakers.

Over the years, however, it has evolved from just being a workout gear brand to simply a royalty of streetwear fashion too. The company’s collaboration with the likes of Supreme, Patta, and Virgil Abloh’s Off-White attributes to its success in this niche, creating some of the finest skater style pieces.

Nike has been around for more than half a century and from the looks of it, this giant streetwear label is here to stay and slay for another 50 years.

Adidas is popularly known as a sportswear label. But the brand has expanded to the streetwear market with strategic collaboration with many celebrities.

Not all of the world’s best brands in the streetwear fashion industry originally started as one. Take Carhatt, for example. The company has been making workwear in the US for ages since 1889. It is widely known for its high-quality overalls and clothing for manual laborers.

Carhartt, however, tapped into its potential of making other fine pieces outside its forte. It built the Carhartt WIP (which stands for Work In Progress), a name that quickly made waves in the world of streetwear.

This OG label already has available streetwear staples such as its classic work pants and Carhartt logo beanies. Its WIP brand apparently is practically designed for non-construction workers. It adds hints of skater style to its workwear to create ultra-cool streetwear designs for its work jackets or baseball caps.

Forget the Apple Glass, Xiaomi Confirms Development Of Its Smart Glasses Concept

In 2011, Google billed augmented reality as the next big thing in technology. Many others soon followed suit and launched similar platforms aimed at tech-savvy consumers. Except for Microsoft’s HoloLens, everything else ended up largely forgotten. Xiaomi believes the market is now ready for a new pair of Smart Glasses, minus the limitations of its predecessors.

The HoloLens and its subsequent version may be the best you can get at the moment, but it’s hardly portable. You need to hook it up to a PC and it is quite expensive for casual use. Rumor has it Apple is working on AR glasses as well. However, Xiaomi’s announcement comes as a big surprise and could potentially hit retailers ahead of the competition.

From a design aspect, the Smart Glasses look like an average pair of eyewear. Instead of a projector and prism combo, Xiaomi proposes the use of another type of imaging technology. To shave off unnecessary bulk and weight from the frame microLEDs become the key components here.

This allows the integrated display unit to remain legible even under direct sunlight. The Smart Glasses ditches colors for a monochrome setup to improve the peak brightness. Meanwhile, the panel is equipped with an optical waveguide system from images the human eye can see.

According to Xiaomi, the device “functions as a new smart terminal with independent operating capability.” Therefore, this implies that even without a smartphone, the wearable is capable of versatile functionalities.

There’s a 5-megapixel forward-facing camera that can take photos, videos, and translate text in real-time. The Smart Glasses boasts Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity, touch controls, a quad-core ARM chipset, and batteries in a 51g package. Moreover, Xiaomi says it will run on Android, but likely with some customizations.

‘No Time To Die’ Villain Lyutsifer Safin Gets His Own Ultraboost 20 x James Bond Running Shoes

With the premiere date drawing ever closer, James Bond fever is once again upon us. Taking advantage of the hype surrounding the latest installment of the long-running spy movie franchise, major brands with tie-ins are now teasing their wares. A while back, we were able to preview a part of a collection — the Ultraboost 20 x James Bond.

This time, we also have the entire Adidas x 007 capsule to talk about. Before, we only had the murdered-out variant available. Little did we know that there were two more on the way. The trio of running sneakers sport a Primeknit upper, that ergonomically wraps your feet in comfort.

Adidas shares more about the kicks such as the hidden pockets behind the black lace cages. This feature is only applicable for the Core Black/Core Black/Core Black and Core Black/Core Black/Iron Metallic versions.

These two are what 007 would likely want to wear, but “No Time To Die” also has a new villain in town. As such, it’s only fitting that he — Lyutsifer Safin (played by Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek) – also receives some representation. His Ultraboost 20 x James Bond arrives in a concrete grey Primeknit textile upper.

According to Adidas, this shade represents the baddie’s bunker in the film. It receives a white lace cage, along with elements in the same color. Instead of the iconic barrel rifling badge on the tongue, it features a blueprint of Safin’s bunker.

Take a peek inside this Ultraboost 20 x James Bond and you’ll see a white sockliner with 007 printed in black. The rest of the catalog includes a track top, track pants, a jacket, and a t-shirt. The Adidas x 007 lineup drops on September 24, 2021.

Gear Up With UNDONE’s Dark Knight Retrospective Before ‘The Batman’ Flim Drops

image

Batman fans rejoice! UNDONE is ready to spoil us once more with another timepiece tribute to Gotham’s stealthy superhero. The crime-fighting badass is back and will face a new villain in the upcoming film. But, before the movie drops, we have the Dark Knight Retrospective to look forward to. For this creation, the Hong Kong-based watchmaker goes with an avant-garde aesthetic.

Over the years, we’ve seen several models that pay tribute to both the villains and the Caped Crusader himself. We have several favorites among the bunch and this latest release just made our list. UNDONE says the 1960s Batmobile serves as the inspiration for the design. The donor vehicle was a 1955 Ford Lincoln Futura.

Up Close With The Dark Knight Retrospective

image

Look it up on Google and you’ll understand what the red accents are all about. Instead of going for a fully murdered-out colorway like their previous outings, UNDONE endows it with splashes of crimson. You’ll find these on the aluminum ring around the K1 crystal dome, the rifled band on the crown, and various elements within.

The 316L stainless steel case features a black DLC coat which gives it remarkable resistance against corrosion and the occasional bumps. The Dark Knight Retrospective measures 42 mm x 13.25 mm with a lug-to-lug length of 51 mm. What follows is the dial – crafted to resemble the Detect-A-Scope.

This tool was on the classic Batmobile’s dashboard back when Adam West portrayed Batman in the campy 1960’s TV series. Then there’s another awesome piece of the puzzle here as The Riddler is represented by multiple question marks. The lume lights up in the dark along with the hands, hour markers, minute track, and more.

Get up close and personal so you can view the inner workings of its sophisticated Japanese TMI NH72 mechanical skeleton self-winding movement rated with a 42-hour power reserve. To see more of the caliber in action, let’s flip on to another section of the Dark Knight Retrospective.

UNDONE’s black DLC coating extends all the way here as the exhibition case back reveals an outline of the Batman logo in red. The serialization is printed right under the badge which numbers up to 999 examples only. Finally, UNDONE equips the Dark Knight Retrospective with a black Cordura strap and a pin-buckle closure.

Our thoughts on the Dark Knight Retrospective

image

It’s clear from the overview that we can’t contain our excitement for this timepiece. We love how UNDONE continues to spoil us with regular refreshes based on the beloved franchise. The Dark Knight Retrospective is another must-have item for Batman addicts. Watch collectors, on the other hand, can’t go wrong with this purchase. So snap it up and rock it with your outfit when “The Batman” hits cinemas in early 2022.

CASBIA Releases The FENOMENO XXX2 Sneakers With 3M’s Reflective Technology

Most sneakerheads we know might be what you call a fickle bunch who religiously follow every major drop. In essence, this is the very definition of what it’s like to be one. The thing is, a laser focus on only the leading brands and collaborations can make you miss out on some cool releases. Just like the FENOMENO XXX2 from CASBIA.

This Italian label may not be a mainstay among collectors, but their lineup of footwear has a lot to offer. When you’re after avant-garde design and remarkable comfort, CASBIA might meet your discerning tastes. The FENOMENO XXX2 is a sporty silhouette that may seem like a high-top but it’s actually a mid-top once you wear it.

According to the manufacturer, the namesake is Italian for “a phenomenal person” and we like that. It might not level up your game on the court, but it looks on point for casual wear. At first, we were thinking there were two colorways shipping. However, there’s another reason for the chromatic shift in the images.

The upper of the FENOMENO XXX2 uses a reflective gray nylon puffer underneath the calfskin leather overlays. The material peeks out in key sections such as the vamp and collar. When the light hits the sneakers just right, it shines a bright white.

CASBIA badging can be found on the tongue, on the lateral side close to the toe, midsole, and hot sealed on the heel loop. Additional contrast comes from the black leather elements on the FENOMENO XXX2. Finally, a 3M reflective outsole suggests you can use these for your runs.
