Future military operations could see the Storm MPV from Highland Systems in action

Among the vehicles we have talked about in the past, the ones that stood for us were the ones built like tanks. The Storm from Highland Systems has just been added to our list of favorites. Even before we even get into the details, the cover image should already tell you why.

We have seen our fair share of some of the most badass machines that are commercially available for those who can afford it. Unfortunately, the Storm has a downside wherein it is currently exclusive for military use. Its capabilities make it a great tactical asset for any armed forces

With a combat-ready silhouette, its clear the Storm means business the moment it is deployed. Highland Systems defines its platform as an armored hybrid amphibious MPV. That’s not a typo right there because it can practically go anywhere.

This is not just fording water right here because the UAE-based manufacturer is saying it will cruise on the water as well. As for obstacles on land, the tank treads should tell us that it will not have any issues. Plus, there’s also the 20-inch ground clearance and ability to run up a 75% grade incline.

The storm also uses a hybrid powertrain which propels it up to 87 mph on land. On the water, the Storm apparently manages to cruise up to speeds of roughly 19 mph (16 knots). These are certainly impressive specifications, but that’s not all.

The STANAG 4569 armor on the Storm can also withstand IEDs and attacks from various projectiles for exceptional survivability. It can seat up to 6 people and is even remote controllable for autonomous operation. We can only hope to see even more insane stuff from Highland Systems down the line.

6 Manly Things to Do When Pulled Over For a DUI

To begin with, driving while intoxicated is not the safest thing anyone can do. Without sugarcoating things, it is one of the top causes of traffic accidents, perhaps just second next to distracted driving. Apart from putting your life at risk, intoxicated driving also puts the innocent lives of other road users in danger. This is why it is considered a legal offense in most states in the US and other countries around the world.

When the traffic law enforcement officers suspect that you could be intoxicated from how you are driving, they can decide to pull you over for questioning and assessment. Perhaps you were speeding, driving recklessly, or you have a broken headlight. The police can pull you over based on the mere suspicion that you could be intoxicated.

Well, when this happens, how you act from the moment the siren blares and emergency lights flash will determine whether you successfully handle the issue or not. In this brief piece, we shall look at 6 manly things to do when pulled over for a DUI.

1. Find a Safe Place to Pull Over as Quickly as Possible

Whenever a traffic police officer flashes his/her lights at you, certainly know that you are being pulled over. Remember the police officer starts making observations regarding your driving under influence (DUI) as soon as you’re pulled over. These observations go into the police report to be used during your trials or hearings if any emerges. The officer might have stopped you after noticing something that suggests you are driving under influence such as alcohol intoxication.

When pulled over by a traffic officer, quickly find a safe place to pull over. Remember to stay calm, and if you’re wearing a cap or shades, consider taking them off. That will be a show of respect to the law enforcement officer while also suggesting that you have nothing to hide. Another important thing, don’t step out of the car unless asked by the officer.

2. Be Polite To the Law Enforcement Officer

Treating the officer with respect won’t cost you anything. Believe it or not, being respectful is one of the best manly things you can do. It will be an advantage to you, and you’re far much unlikely to get arrested if you show the officer that you’re sincerely and genuinely respectful.

Officers are also human beings like you and me. This means that, if you’re rude, insincere, or hostile to the law enforcement officer, you will just invoke their anger. They will definitely do everything possible to get you arrested and convicted by writing you a very incriminating police report.

So, if the officer asks you to step out of your car, just comply while being cooperative and friendly with them. Talk to the officer politely like you would do to any other respectable person. Politeness to the officers has saved a lot of people from hefty fines.

3. Be Calm When Getting Arrested

Remember, if the officer suspects you of drunken driving, they will be keen on anything you do. For instance, don’t try to hide any open alcoholic beverages or drugs while in front of an officer. Stay calm and put your hands on the steering wheel. Even after maintaining your cool with the law enforcement officer, chances are that you will still get arrested if it’s clear you are drunk. By all means, do not think of resisting arrest.

Stay calm during the arrest and remember that you have the right to respectfully request legal representation while speaking to the officer. Call or speak to an experienced DUI attorney as soon as you can. They will help you navigate the various complexities involved in DUI cases and ensure that your legal rights are observed. Also, remember to be careful as anything you say could be used against you in court.

4. Only Provide Minimal Information

Avoid providing law enforcement officers with a lot of unnecessary information. Some of it could end up incriminating you. Just keep it truthful, plain, and simple. Some details you are required to provide include the following:

  • Your name or ID
  • Your driver’s license.
  • Vehicle registration.
  • Proof of insurance.

Avoid giving the officer unnecessary information such as:

  • How much you have been drinking.
  • Where you have been drinking.
  • Whom you have been drinking with.

Instead, you may, for instance, tell the officer something like, “I am sorry officer, but I have been advised that it’s okay not to answer any further questions”

5. In Some Cases, Refuse Sobriety Tests

In many states, individuals are not obligated to perform field sobriety tests or even take a handheld breathalyzer. While refusing these requests may lead to your driver’s license getting suspended, if intoxicated, the police officer will only provide his/her subjective interpretation based on your state during the arrest.

Remember, it is not a guarantee that you will win the DUI case just by refusing to take the sobriety tests and the handheld breathalyzers. You might be having your own reasons to refuse, and that’s okay. However, you are likely to pass the test if you only had one or two drinks over an hour or two earlier.

Basically, refusing to take sobriety tests can help your case, so you can avoid it unless you are very sure you are not intoxicated in any way. Nonetheless, sobriety tests are heavily enforced in some states, so knowing the applicable laws in your state can prove helpful here.

6. Take the Tests at the Police Station

After getting arrested and taken to the police station, now you can take the breathalyzer test. In fact, in most states, you are obligated to take DUI tests only at the police station. Also, note! While at the police station, you can consider taking the breathalyzer test and perhaps refuse the blood tests. That way, your attorney could challenge the reliability of the breathalyzer as compared to DUI blood tests.

Intoxicated driving is among the common reasons drivers get pulled over and arrested. Remember, law enforcement officers have the duty to keep our roads safe and sane. Nonetheless, what you do after being pulled over and arrested will determine the repercussions of your offense (if you have any). If you are not driving while intoxicated, there is no reason to worry because the tests will tell it all.

Azimut Yachts is building the X47FRGMT for Yanmar and Fragment Design

It was not long ago when we gave you a glimpse of what is possible when two distinct brands from different disciplines work together. These days, collaborations are perhaps the most sought-after acquisitions by affluent collectors. Hence, the X47FRGMT from Yanmar and Fragment Design is another spectacular example of what’s possible when both parties share compatible ideas.

How to the X47FRGMT came to be started with a blueprint provided by Ken Okuyama, a renowned industrial designer. 8 Ways to Stay Safe on the Road

In the US, there are around 231,652,000 licensed drivers (2020). With all those people on the road, it’s important that we all work together to stay as safe as possible. While you should already have passed your driving test, it can be extremely beneficial to remind yourself of the laws so that you reduce the risk of accidents.

In this article, we are going to look at eight ways to stay safe on the road. Sound interesting? Then keep on reading!

Obey the road rules

This one may come as a given, but you would be surprised how many people try and avoid the most basic road rules. Speeding, reckless driving, and drunk driving are all frequent occurrences and lead to severe accidents. Remember, they are there for a reason, so it’s best to follow them. At the end of the day, you will be safer and can avoid those dreaded fines. Check out these USA driving rules to brush up on your knowledge.

Drive properly according to the conditions

The weather can certainly be unpredictable, and at times it can affect the roads severely. If you’re planning on driving during these conditions, make sure you consider the following:

Fog: When driving in fog, always keep a safe distance between you in the car in front. You also need to give plenty of notice when using signals and avoid using your high-beam lights as this will make it harder to see.

Snow: Driving in snow is dangerous, so make sure you slow down as much as possible and allow extra time to get somewhere. Take corners slowly to avoid skidding and accelerate gradually, so your tires don’t spin. Make sure you also keep an eye out for black ice that can cause you to lose control quickly.

Rain: When driving in the rain, slow down and avoid pools/puddles. Since roads can be slick, make sure to give plenty of distance between you and the cars in front. You also want to use your headlights.

Keep up your training

If you don’t frequently drive, completing a refresher training course can be a great idea to help you stay safe on the road. In some cases, you may even be able to dismiss a ticket. Check out defensivedrivingcourse.com if you are looking to brush up on your skills. Trust us when we say it really can make a difference.

Plan trips in advance

If you are going on a long trip or going to a place that you haven’t been to before, it can be wise to plan out everything in advance. Take a look at the safest routes, know where there are available gas stations, and check out what the weather will be like. This way, you can prepare yourself for the conditions and won’t be so distracted along the way.

Do pre-trip inspections

Many of us often hop straight in our car and head out on our journey. However, it would be best if we were doing a quick inspection first. Have a friend help you to make sure all of your lights are working correctly. You’ll also want to check your tires, fluids, brakes, and battery if you are planning on a long trip. This way, you can get anything fixed in advance before breaking down on the road. Yes, car repairs can be expensive, but they are necessary.

Minimize distractions

Distracted driving is the leading cause of car accidents in the US. To avoid taking your eyes off the road, make sure you spend time eliminating anything that may distract you. Put away your phone, avoid eating while driving, and make sure any children and pets are correctly secured. Multi-tasking may seem efficient, but you’re risking your own life and the life of those around you.

Take frequent breaks during long trips

Another common cause of car accidents is fatigue. When you feel sleepy, all it takes is a second for your eyes to close, and you can be off the road. To avoid this, make sure that you take frequent breaks during long trips so that you can re-energize. You may even consider swapping drivers (when possible) or pulling over and having a rest until you are recovered.

Wear a seatbelt

Lastly, one of the most important tips to remember while driving is to wear a seatbelt. In fact, according to the NHTSA, 14,955 lives were saved by them. By ensuring that both yourself and your passengers have buckled up before heading out on the road, you can remain safe.

LEGO is teasing Porsche fans with this 2-in-1 911 Turbo/Targa Creator set

Earlier this week, we shared a glimpse of Porsches new take on its EV platform – the Taycan. Not that there is anything wrong with the all-electric sports sedan, but we know you want options. Thus, the German carmaker is expanding the lineup with the Turbo S Cross Turismo. The sad truth is that not everybody can fit these rides into their budget. Thankfully, we can settle for a 911 Turbo/Targa set from LEGO.

While fans consider those under its Technic product line as the most detailed and sophisticated option for hobbyists, Items from their Creator catalog are equally as impressive. In fact, its most recent release was a 9,036-piece scale model of the Colosseum.

For the Porsche 911 Turbo/Targa, LEGO is also not taking any shortcuts. While it won’t match the Roman amphitheater’s scale and number of bricks, it makes up for it with mechanical touches. Out of the box, you have 1,458 pieces to work with, so handle with care.

Depending on the configuration of your choice, you can build it as a Porsche 911 Turbo or Targa. Unlike regular LEGO sets, there are minimal studs left visible upon completion. From what we could see, these are mostly on the bumpers of the vehicle. The rest of the body are smooth surfaces and curves.

Inside the cockpit, you can interact with the steering wheel, seats, gearshift, and emergency brakes. Lift the rear engine cover to view the naturally aspirated flat-six engine. For the convertible setup, you can remove the roof and store it under the front hood. Even the Porsche badging is presented accurately. LEGO never ceases to impress as the 911 Turbo/Targa Creator set shows.

Porsche is already teasing the arrival of the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo

Porsche’s venture into EVs is shaping up to be a great investment for the company. With the sporty Taycan as its poster boy, nobody can say no to the carmaker’s signature look. Perhaps this is what makes it so appealing for longtime fans of the brand. At first many found the pricing prohibitive, but an entry-level trim was made available earlier this year. Now, the lineup welcomes another new member – the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo.

Much like its mouthful of a name, this vehicle boasts a bunch of upgrades to set it apart from the regular Taycan catalogue. Let’s start off with the visuals, as Porsches tweaks the design just a little bit to give the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo some character.

From the front, it follows the distinct form of the regular models. However, from the back, it’s another story. Drawing influences from the Panamera Sports Turismo, the German marque is giving it a slight rear overhaul.

The Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo now boasts a longer roof, new rear fenders, and no trunk. In its place now sits a hatch, which we know has its fair share of fans. Its new configuration should add more room inside without any downside to its performance.

Porsche is still keeping most of the details under wraps for now, but automotive industry sources have their speculations. Aside from the new silhouette, the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo supposedly rides on a new suspension system. This means ground clearance should be a little higher than the sedan version. Pricing and availability should be revealed soon.

The 6 Things Every Car Owner Needs

If you love cars, chances are you also love anything car-related. These could range from cool floor mats, attractive rims, audio system add-ons, and dozens of other amenities. But what about the more essential, not-so-cool items that can either save your life in an emergency or make things easy when the going gets rough? For instance, if you’re stranded on a lonesome stretch of interstate in the dark, how with oncoming traffic see you?

A Visibility Kit

Want to be seen when it matters? Make sure you have the three components of a roadside visibility kit, namely flares, light sticks, and several reflective triangles. Unfortunately, plenty of highway accidents happen simply because drivers can’t see stalled vehicles and crash into them. Carry high-quality flares, at least a dozen light sticks, and the large reflecting triangles like truck drivers use.

A Wash & Wax Kit

It’s not about emergencies but making sure you can clean and wax your car wherever you are, even after driving through muddy construction areas or in inclement weather. There are some excellent online resources where you can review a complete guide to adopting a routine for washing and waxing your car. Then, if you always have a basic wash/wax kit in the trunk, you’ll be ready to remove salt, debris, mud, and other gunk that eats away at paint, add a protective layer of wax, and continue your trip in a clean machine.

OBD II

You don’t have to be a mechanic to use an on-board diagnostic (OBD) device. For less than $50, you can get the deluxe model called OBD II. It comes with simple instructions for hookup to your engine on the inside of your car, under the steering wheel. The device shows error codes you can look up in the instruction booklet and figure out exactly what’s wrong with your vehicle. It’s the best $50 you’ll ever spend.

A Full-Size Spare

Spend the extra money to replace your donut spare tire, the cheap one that came with your vehicle, with a full-size spare. This is an incredibly handy item if you suffer a flat in the middle of a long trip or in hazardous road conditions. Don’t forget to check the pressure in all five of your tires regularly so that your backup is good to go in anytime, anywhere.

The Big Four

We’re counting the big four as one item because they’re absolute necessities for safety and security while you drive. The four are a screwdriver, a set of jumper cables, a sharp utility knife, and a torque wrench. Often, a one-minute repair job can get you on your way, which is why the tools are a must. Likewise, jumper cables will save the day more often than you expect.

First Aid Kit

You can buy a complete kit at just about any auto parts store. Make sure your set includes a whistle and a reliable flashlight. What people often forget to do is read the instructions that come with the kit and learn how to use all the items before an emergency happens. Plus, toss in one or two sets up extra batteries for the flashlight.
