A Volkswagen isn’t really ideal when it comes to tiny house living or camper vans. But German-based Flowcamper turned the modest Volkswagen T6.1 into a comfortable tiny house and outfitted it with all the home essentials you need for the outdoors with the Flowcamper Casper.

Those who prefer small motorhomes with enough off-road capacity can benefit from this spruced-up vehicle. It comes with an all-wheel-drive and a variety of engines of your choice. It has an abundance of Nordic spruce for the interior to transform it into a modest camper van.

The Flowcamper Casper comes outfitted with an L-shape kitchen that offers plenty of storage. It even has a 30-liter refrigerator, a sink with pressurized water, and a stove. The water system in the kitchen conveniently also makes up your outdoor shower. Now when it comes to sleeping or sitting areas, Flowcamper retained two of the rear seats with seatbelts to create a four-passenger seat. Those two seats also fold out to accommodate a large twin bed.

We have to hand it to the team behind these designs because the latest models are notably functional. The collection features two configurations: MILITARY and OUTDOOR. True to its name, the former has a vamp with what appears to be a MOLLE attachment system. There’s no mention of it specifically, but that’s what we can gather from the photos. Also, it comes with a removable pouch that attaches via a strap with a plastic buckle.

The OUTDOOR version of the slip-on goes for a more casual silhouette, but with elements that denote its more trail-ready nature. There is a pocket with a zipper and netting that can hold small items on the vamp. We can also spot a carabiner on the strap across the top. Both of the variants in the 2021 BEAMS x Crocs collection have textile uppers and a rugged outsole.

Olight Baton 3 Premium Edition: An awesome EDC bundle for your collection

Among the EDCs that we regularly have in our bags, backpacks, pocket, flashlights are perhaps the most neglected. However, when the lights go out or when you’re in a survival situation that requires illumination, that’s when we find out how essential these tools could be. Olight was courteous enough to send over one of their latest models – the Baton 3 Premium Edition – for us to review.

After featuring several of their products in the past, we have high expectations for this one. As expected, the company did not disappoint. Just like when you order directly from Olight, the item shipped out quickly and was securely packed.

Unboxing the Baton 3 Premium Edition

The package arrives in a white box with the Olight branding on all side except for the top, bottom, and rear. The Baton 3 Premium Edition is available in three colorways: blue/black, red/gold, and black/dark blue. Ours was the latter and it is prominently on the box along with some of its features.

Equally notable is the bi-fold flap clasps to the side with magnets. What immediately greets you is a message from the Olight Team that reads: “Welcome to the Olight family! Enjoy your next level EDC experience with this Baton 3 Premium Edition.”

It’s a simple but meaningful touch that goes a long way with consumers. Thank you Olight! Next up is a sturdy yellow plastic sleeve with “getting started” information as well as some warnings on what not to do with the product within.

Taking it out, immediately greeting us is the Baton 3 Premium Edition within a plastic sleeve. Below is a pull-out tab that exposes a smaller box that holds the charging cable, instruction manual, and cleaning cloth. Olight’s attention to subtle details is certainly impressive.

Hands-On with the flashlight

Now that we’ve provided the specifications of the Baton 3 Premium Edition, let’s move on to the good stuff. Olight recommends that you fully charge it first, but there is some residual power left from when it left the factory.

To give you an idea, the charging case may be crafted out of plastic but there is some heft to it which is likely from the battery. It’s just slightly larger than that of the AirPods and AirPods Pro, which makes it very pocketable as most EDCs should be.

The cover flips open to the side much like that of a typical Zippo lighter and is secured in place when closed by a magnet. After lifting it up you’ll see the Baton 3 nestled inside with an insulating piece of plastic as well as an LED indicator on the edge.

If this is your first time taking out the flashlight, you’re probably wondering why it’s not working right? We were also in the same boat because we failed to pay attention to one crucial direction. It was clearly noted on the yellow sleeve upon unboxing that we should unscrew the handle and remove another piece of insulating plastic.

The aluminum alloy construction of this compact EDC tool gives it a durable vibe. The matte finish coupled with the textured grip of the handle makes it less likely to slip out of your hands. For added versatility, a two-way pocket clip and lanyard hole combo come standard.

Using The Baton 3 Premium Edition

With that out of the way, you can now turn on the Baton 3 by pressing the button once. To switch intensity levels, just hold the button down for a few seconds to cycle through the three main presets.

The lowest brightness level – Moonlight Mode — is accessible by holding down the button when the flashlight is turned off. To activate the Strobe function, press the button three times in rapid succession.

Finally, to quickly engage Turbo Mode wherein the unit emits a blinding beam at (6,889 candela/1,200 lumens) that is visible up to 545 feet away, press the button twice. Only enable this setting when absolutely necessary as it will quickly heat up the metal body.

After use, just slip it back into the slot within the charging case to recharge. Likewise, we want to point out that the magnets Olight uses are quite powerful. These keep the flashlight firmly in place.

There was no wiggle at all and it doesn’t even fall out. Trust us, we tried vigorously shaking the Baton 3 Premium Edition upside down with the cover open. It’s definitely stuck in there like a champ until you manually pull it out.

Our Takeaway

It should be obvious that we have don’t really have any complaints against the Baton 3 Premium Edition. Still, others might find it too small for other applications. This might be true, but the manufacturer actually offers a wide range of lighting products that will cater to what you need.

Future military operations could see the Storm MPV from Highland Systems in action

Among the vehicles we have talked about in the past, the ones that stood for us were the ones built like tanks. The Storm from Highland Systems has just been added to our list of favorites. Even before we even get into the details, the cover image should already tell you why.

We have seen our fair share of some of the most badass machines that are commercially available for those who can afford it. Unfortunately, the Storm has a downside wherein it is currently exclusive for military use. Its capabilities make it a great tactical asset for any armed forces

With a combat-ready silhouette, its clear the Storm means business the moment it is deployed. Highland Systems defines its platform as an armored hybrid amphibious MPV. That’s not a typo right there because it can practically go anywhere.

This is not just fording water right here because the UAE-based manufacturer is saying it will cruise on the water as well. As for obstacles on land, the tank treads should tell us that it will not have any issues. Plus, there’s also the 20-inch ground clearance and ability to run up a 75% grade incline.

The storm also uses a hybrid powertrain which propels it up to 87 mph on land. On the water, the Storm apparently manages to cruise up to speeds of roughly 19 mph (16 knots). These are certainly impressive specifications, but that’s not all.

The STANAG 4569 armor on the Storm can also withstand IEDs and attacks from various projectiles for exceptional survivability. It can seat up to 6 people and is even remote controllable for autonomous operation. We can only hope to see even more insane stuff from Highland Systems down the line.

Toyota Tacoma TRD-Sport Trailer Concept: We hope this makes it to production soon

For the overlanding enthusiast who also loves what he great outdoors has to offer, these two are a perfect match. Nothing is more awesome than taking on what nature puts in your way and enjoying the starlit sky at the end of the day. As such, there is a whole range of gear and upgrades available that enhance the experience. Now, current and future Toyota Tacoma owners could soon choose to upgrade their rides with the TRD-Sport Trailer.

“Overlanding has been picking up steam for quite some time, but 2020 just put it over the top,” stated Toyota Division Marketing group vice president Ed Laukes regarding the TRD-Sport Trailer “Given Toyota’s solid off-road credentials and reputation, we thought it would be really cool to create the ultimate overlanding companion to our pickup and SUV lineup.”

According to sources, the inspiration for the TRD-Sport Trailer came from third-party trailers based on the Toyota Tacoma. After a talk with MotorSports Tech Center Director of Operations Marty Schwerter, they came up with an exciting concept. It appears the bed of the Tacoma pickup has enough space for a collection of add-ons.

The most notable is a four-person Yakima tent complete with an awning. It sits on a scissor lift for on-demand motorized elevation. There’s also a 16-gallon freshwater tank, a hot water heater, a slide-out sink with stove. For even more convenience, you have a toilet, shower, and refrigerator. Auxiliary power comes from a generator and Optima Yellow Top battery combo for exceptional reliability. Finally, the TRD-Sport Trailer is riding on a pair of TRD Pro wheels with General Grabber X3 285/70/17 tires.
