Acer Nitro 7 Gaming Laptop

Mobile PC gaming might seem like a straightforward affair, but it can be difficult to find the right laptop. The thing is, if you’re after top-grade specifications that can match or rival that of desktop computers, portability goes out the window. High-end components will definitely bulk up its form factor and drain the battery faster than normal. Ultimately manufacturers find it a challenge to balance performance and good looks. On the other hand, the new Acer Nitro 7 plans to offer the middle ground that so many consumers are looking for in a gaming laptop.

Before we go further, we just want to remind you that gaming on an ultra-thin laptop is possible with the right gear. However, the caveat is that you need an external GPU dock to boost its graphical requirements. In contrast, a slim gaming-grade laptop carries all that it needs on board. The Nitro series is Acer’s more affordable lineup of notebooks that provide impressive specs. The Nitro 7, in particular, is a 15.6-inch unit that abandons the plastic frame of the Nitro 5. This time, it sports a classy metal chassis that passes for a premium-tier model.

When the display folds down, you end up with a gaming notebook that measures 0.78 inches only. While it might not win awards for being the slimmest, it gets the job done just fine. Also, we love the menacing black brushed metal finish of the exterior. It will pack Intel’s 9th generation Core CPUs, which users can configure when they order, while the GPU details remain scarce. Sources are speculating that it might be the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660. The Acer Nitro 7 will carry a $999 price point for the base model when it comes out

Acer Predator Triton 900

Acer unveiled the Aspire R14 several years ago, which in itself was an interesting twist on the convertible PC. It featured an easel-like hinge that allowed you to rotate the screen all the way to the back. Fast forward to today. Acer has not only given that mechanism a proper name — Ezel — but is also incorporating it to one of its gaming laptops, the Triton 900.

Unveiled at the IFA trade show in Berlin, the Predator Triton 900 is Acer’s latest gaming beast. You’ll be able to twist the screen all the way around for a tent-like orientation. You’ll also be able to lay it flat if that’s more of your style. Either way, the Triton 900 should perform monstrously. A representative says it’ll come with the latest graphics chip from NVIDIA. It’ll also have the latest version of Acer’s Aeroblade cooling technology that’s supposed to feature 10 percent more airflow compared to its predecessor.

Technically, the Triton 900 also acts as a tablet thanks to its hinge, but it’s not clear just how comfortable that would be. It looks possible, but it would probably feel too bulky and heavy for some users.

The gaming laptop has a mechanical keyboard with RGB lighting and a trackpad on the side. You can easily switch this to numerical keys if preferred. Acer didn’t share other details like specs, pricing, and availability. Hopefully the company gets it ready just in time for the CES this coming January. Just note that this will be Acer’s latest Predator Triton gaming laptop, so it’ll most likely have top-tier performance and specs.
