This Alexa-Enabled Phone Charger for Your Car Normally Costs $70. Right Now, It’s $20

<!–Anker’s Alexa Car Phone Charger Is on Sale for Just $20 • Gear Patrol<!– –>

hey alexa, save me money

Maybe your car’s built-in USB ports don’t charge your phone fast enough; maybe your ride is old enough that it doesn’t include any integrated USB slots at all. Regardless of the why, the way to fix it is simple: add a 12-volt smartphone charger to your car’s array of capabilities.

That said, while you might be temped by that array of cheapo cigarette lighter USB plugs up there with the impulse buy items on the gas station counter — avoid them. If you’re going to buy a device to charge that little computer that’s practically an extension of your brain, you need to choose one that’s reliable, dependable and well-made. For example: the Anker Roav Viva.

Not only does this little plug let you charge two iPhones, Androids or whatever else uses a USB-based charger at the same time, but it also offers Amazon Alexa integration, bringing many of the features you depend upon from that voice-controlled speaker at home into your car. All you have to do is pair it with your phone, and boom: you can use Alexa for voice-based navigation, to play music, even to control your Alexa-connected smart devices at home. (Just think about how cool your kid will think you are when you pull up in front of the house and turn on the lights with a voice command from inside the car.)

The best part? The Roav Viva is on sale at B&H right now; it’s just $20, a whopping $50 off the usual price. That’s as good a bargain as you’re likely to find for a high-speed phone charger that also brings Alexa inside the car.

Everything You Need for Summer Hiking Is on Sale

There is no official hiking season, no dates on the calendar that mark its start or end. But this year, it feels that way, given that so many trail systems have only recently begun to open to the public as various places begin to lift restrictions put in place to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Summer hiking is on, and so is a massive sale on everything you need to do it. We parsed through hundreds of discounted items and curated the best we could find here. If you need inspiration on where to hike, see our list of the best day hikes in America. And if you aren’t sure what virus-related precautions you should take on the trail, check out the American Hiking Society’s FAQ on the subject.

Danner Trail 2650 Hiking Shoe

Hiking boots are the foundation of your trail kit. Danner’s Trail 2650 is low-cut for faster walking and shorter hikes that don’t call for aggressive ankle support.

Vasque Breeze LT GTX Hiking Boot

If you favor a full-sized boot or plan to be out on the trail for a long stint, check out Vasque’s Gore-Tex-equipped Breeze LT.

Black Diamond Distance 15 Backpack

The Distance 15 isn’t the biggest hiking pack available but offers a minimal design that’s comfortable and efficient when you don’t need to carry a lot. (Its size might even prevent you from overpacking.)

Ultimate Direction 2L Reservoir

Convert the bag you already have to a hydration pack with Ultimate Direction’s two-liter reservoir. It comes with a quick-release that lets you disconnect the hose without spilling a drop, making it easy to refill and get in and out of your backpack.

Black Diamond Distance Z Trekking Poles

Trekking poles offer balance and support, even on shorter hikes. Black Diamond’s Distance Z poles also pack down small, so you can stash them away when you don’t need them.

Black Diamond Revolt Headlamp

A headlamp is a smart thing to have in your pack, just in case you stay out longer than expected.

YETI Rambler Colster

If you’re packing a celebratory beverage for the summit, Yeti’s rugged koozie will ensure it stays cold on the way.

No More Dead Zones

Amazon is selling an eero mesh Wi-Fi starter kit for $50 off. The normally $249 package comes with three mesh hubs (one of which replaces your current router) that combine to create a Wi-Fi network that covers 5,000 square-foot home. It works with Amazon Alexa and Apple’s HomeKit, but not Google Assistant. If you have a medium-sized home and you’re looking to fix multiple Wi-Fi dead zones, this is a great starter kit to buy.

(The best mesh network to get if you have a Google smart home is Nest Wifi.)

In the market for Floorstanding Speakers?

This deal on Harman Kardon’s Citation Towers is too good to not talk about. The pair of floorstanding speakers normally costs $3,000, but you can get them for $1,500 off right now if you buy from Harman Kardon’s website.

The Citation Towers were released a little less than a year ago, in the middle of 2019, and they’re super versatile. They can be used as a stereo pair of wireless speakers, which you can stream music to via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi; they can be designated as the left and right channels of a home theater system, with Harman Kardon’s soundbar, the Citation Bar, situated between them; or they can also be integrated into a multi-room speaker system other Chromecast speakers.

If you’re looking to get a really good deal on a pair of excellent and versatile floorstanding speakers, this is the deal you want.

Act Now and Save on One of Our Favorite Radar Detectors

<!–Now’s the Best Time to Buy a Radar Detector • Gear Patrol<!– –>

don’t leave home without it

If you, like Ricky Bobby, wanna go fast when you’re behind the wheel of a car, a good radar detector is as essential as your driver’s license. (And in fact, the former could very much help you keep the latter.) We’ve spoken before about our love for the Escort Max360c, but that mighty piece of cop-spotting technology comes with a price: the price. At a cost of $650, it can be a little hard to justify.

Luckily, there’s another option. Step one rung down the Escort family tree, and you’ll find the Escort Max360. It boasts nearly all the same features as the Max360c; it’s just as good at hunting out everything from X-band to Ka-band radar, and can tell you about threats found through the crowd-sourced Escort Live app. The only real difference is that it doesn’t come with Wi-Fi; you’ll need to plug it into your computer to get updates.

If you can live with that — and let’s face it, that’s a tiny compromise — you can save big. In fact, right now, you can save even bigger; the Escort Max360 is currently marked down on Amazon, selling for just $450. If you don’t already have a radar detector on your windshield, you’re not gonna find a better time to buy one.

Need New Hiking Boots? This Sale Is One Not to Miss

<!–Need New Hiking Boots? This Sale Is One Not to Miss • Gear Patrol<!– –>

Boot Bargain

Danner has been making its rugged stitchdown welted boots in the USA since 1932. Back then, the company supplied wilderness workers like loggers, but in the years since it has expanded its offering to outfit those who venture down trails just for fun. Danner still makes those rugged boots of course — look to its Mountain Pass for example — but now it makes lightweight hiking boots like the Trail 2650 that are perfect for briefer visits to the woods and mountains.

Both of those boots are currently on sale at Huckberry for 25 percent off, along with pretty much every boot Danner makes.
