Anglepoise Type 1228
Save $50 Anglepoise has been making its iconic spring-balanced lamps since the 1930s. The Type 1227 was the company’s first product, and its aluminum body, easy-to-adjust arm, modern aesthetic and durability have made it (and Anglepoise) British design royalty. Sir Kenneth Grange is also British design royalty, and, since he was brought on as Design Director in 2003, he’s been the driving force behind Anglepoise’s enduring popularity.

Grange, whose awards and accolades are too many to count, is thought of as the father of modernist British design. He’s the chief author of a cross-country passenger train, the Royal Post mailbox, London’s Black Taxis and a series of mid-century Kodak cameras just to name a few. Unveiled today, his most recent creation is a collaboration with another of our favorite companies: Huckberry.

Exclusive to Huckberry, the Type 1228 is a simple update to the classic 1227. It keeps with tradition in employing an aluminum body, chrome-plated fittings and a cast-iron weighted base, but it’s given a more colorful appearance with a translucent polypropene shade. The Type 1228 is available now with black, blue or frosted white shades for 15 percent on Huckberry’s site — good for a $50 savings. —Will Price

The One Headlamp I Take on Every Adventure Is Now 30% Off
Save 30%: A good headlamp is a reliable light source. Any additional features should be practical and uncompromising, not gimmicky. — Tanner Bowden

GSI Outdoors Java Drip Coffee Maker
Save 20%: There are certain things that, when we’re camping, we let slide. We might leave the floss at home, put a pause on a strict dietary regimen or wear the same shirt for a couple of days in a row. Your morning cup of coffee should not be one of the things that’s acceptable in a lower form just because you’re far from civilization. Many will resort to cowboy coffee — steeping ground beans directly in the cup and drinking around them. It doesn’t — it shouldn’t — have to be this way.

For those who care enough about their morning cup to shoulder a few extra ounces in their backpacks, there are plenty of camping-friendly coffee makers. GSI Outdoors’ Java Drip is one of the best available, especially if pour over is your brew method of choice. The apparatus consists of a 30-ounce carafe made of BPA-free plastic that’s wrapped in ballistic nylon for extra insulation. The conical drip cone locks directly onto its top and if it looks bulky don’t worry — it collapses for efficient storage within the carafe. The Java Drip comes with a reusable cloth, but any old paper filter will do the trick too.

Usually, the Java Drip costs $33, an easy price to pay when considering the alternatives (going without or chewing on grounds with every sip), and right now that price is down by 20 percent at Backcountry. — Tanner Bowden

Seiko 5 SNZH “Fifty Fathoms”
Save $165: Have long work hours got you down lately? Do you want to get the hell out of the City and go scuba diving in French Polynesia?
Well, I can’t help you, there — not even a little bit. But I can draw your attention to the fact that this Seiko 5 dive watch is on sale on Massdrop for only $130. The Seiko 5 SNZH “Fifty Fathoms” is a 42mm, stainless steel-cased diver with a 23-jewel Seiko 7S36 automatic movement. Featuring polished block hour markers and sword hands done up in Lumibright, a 120-click unidirectional bezel and Arabic numbers, this is a simple, handsome day-date watch that’s water resistant down to 100m, which should be plenty for most divers. You also get a Hardlex crystal, display case back and stainless steel bracelet, and the watch is available in 3 colorways: blue, black and two-tone.

Nemo Equipment Dagger 2-Person Tent
Save $120: A few years ago, I found myself staring down my calendar at one of life’s transitional moments: my seasonal job would end, my other seasonal job would end and my lease would be up. Rather than begin to scour the classifieds section of the local paper and yield to an increase in my rent, I came to the resolution that the better option was to purchase a one-way plane ticket to the southernmost point of South America with the goal of wandering from Tierra del Fuego to the coast of the Caribbean Sea.

My loose itinerary involved backpacking, hiking, surfing, city wandering and more, all in environments that ranged from high alpine to subtropical. I quickly realized that my gear closet was not as full as it appeared. One of the most important purchases that I had to make was a tent. After doing quite a bit of research, I landed on Nemo Equipment’s Dagger, for a few reasons: it was small enough to carry on a six-day trek it was spacious enough for casual camping at a campground or in a yard, it was durable enough for months of use and it had two large vestibules for gear storage (a feature that I was specifically looking for).

All of these qualities I gathered from the specs listed on Nemo’s website and through a visit to an REI to see the tent in person, and they all held true throughout what ended up to be four months of travel. The Dagger proved itself indispensable, and I’d happily recommend it to anyone in search of a tent that balances size and weight with comfort and durability. Right now, it’s 30 percent off — a savings of $120 — at Backcountry. — Tanner Bowden

J.Crew Flash Sale
Save an Extra 60%:When I walked into the office this morning, there was a noticeable buzz about J.Crew’s current Flash Sale. People were rightfully surprised. The sale, which goes through tomorrow, offers 25 percent off full price styles and an extra 60 percent off sale styles with the code FLASH. That extra 60 percent is what was drawing excited comments from people here.

With that discount, you can pick up a classic buffalo plaid shirt for $5 or a chamois workshirt for $8. You can score a cashmere knit hat for $6 and a merino wool turtleneck for $11. Hell, if you want to invest in some suiting you can buy the brand’s Crosby suit jacket for just under $100. The prices seem too good to be true.

And for most of an hour, our employees encountered countless error messages when trying to add items to their carts and check out. Items have been selling out quickly (no surprise there), but by the time of publish, our staff has largely been able to complete their orders. So if you’re in need of any wardrobe essentials, head over to J.Crew today — you’d be crazy not to. — John Zientek

Snow Peak Camp Cookware Sale
Save up to 25% Snow Peak makes top notch outdoors gear — everything from cookware to clothing to tents, and most of the equipment rarely goes on sale. Right now you can take advantage of almost 25 percent off mugs, kettles, tableware and more. A few of our favorite picks are below, so shop while you can. — Meg Lappe

Miele Canister Vacuum
Save $75 Though vacuums made by Dyson, Shark and Roomba are the most well-known vacuum makers out there, none hold a candle to Miele.
The 120-year-old German vacuum makers create machines that are more powerful, more durable and much longer-lasting than other premium vacuums. Its canister vacuums are developed and tested to endure 20 years of abuse and operate on both hardwood and carpets, and they all use a fully sealed air cleaning system, which means micro-particles aren’t allowed to escape after suction and filtering.
Today, one of the company’s entry-level models — the Compact C1 — is about $75 off on Amazon today. It’s worth noting that its vacuums are not bagless, so you’ll need to remember to stock up on canister bags. Happy cleaning. —Will Price

The Best Deals of the Day: Deep Discounts on a CRKT Pocket Knife, Cult Fave Common Projects Sneakers & More

Welcome to Deals of Note, where Gear Patrol captures all the best deals of the day. You can also follow all our deal posts in the Deals section. Comments or concerns? We’d love to hear from you at deals@gearpatrol.com.

CRKT Pilar Large Pocket Knife
Save 34%: Everyday pocket knives are getting smaller, and we like it. Tiny knives are utterly portable, and they can be so without losing out on utility. But sometimes, when the task calls for it, or when you just want it, a big blade is better. That’s why this year, CRKT made a larger version of the Pilar, a knife that has become quite popular since its release in 2017.

The Pilar Large is bigger than its original version, but it still isn’t a massive hunk of metal that’ll weigh heavy in your pocket. It’s also currently on sale at Massdrop for 36 percent off, a notable discount given how new this knife is and how popular the original was. The Pilar Large can be ordered with a stainless steel handle, a G10 handle or, for slightly more money, in an all-black edition that has upgraded steel. — Tanner Bowden

Bonobos Clothing and Accessories
Save 40%:If you haven’t already spent this month’s discretionary income on any number of early-January sales, let us tempt you with something new. Currently at Bonobos, you can save an extra 40 percent on a massive range of already reduced clothing and accessories with the code WINTER40. That means you can pick up a pair of chinos for under $30 and an Italian-wool suit for $300. Browse an impressive selection of pants, shirts, suits and more — this massive sale is worth your time and money. — John Zientek

Nike, Adidas and New Balance Sneakers
Save Up to 70% Just as we leave the holiday season in the rearview, online retailer Sneakersnstuff drops a beast of a sale — 30 to 70 percent off thousands of pieces in its inventory. And while the Holiday Sale features plenty of sweats, hoodies, hats and bags, the best pickings are in the department Sneakersnstuff does best — sneakers. Among the 24 pages worth of shoes are a wealth of great deals on some of the most covetable sneakers of the last year. —Will Price

Common Projects Shoes and Boots
Save 40%:Since its inception in 2004, New York-based footwear brand Common Projects has become something of a cult-favorite. The brand makes luxe versions of classic sneaker silhouettes, utilizing premium materials and Italian craftsmanship. While the brand isn’t as hard to come by as it once was, it’s rare to find substantial markdowns on any of its styles.

But, today is one of those rare occasions. If you head over to Mr Porter, you can save 40 percent on a few different pairs of shoes and boots from Common Projects. The understated styles are available in a range of sizes and prices start at $258 — that’s almost unheard of for this brand. — John Zientek

TRX Suspension Trainer
Save 34%: When arranged thoughtfully and outfitted appropriately, a home gym can be an entirely capable alternative to a pricey gym membership. It doesn’t have to call for heavy and bulky (not to mention expensive) equipment, either. TRX’s original suspension trainer was created with this type of functional minimalism in mind — it was invented by a Navy SEAL squadron commander named Randy Hetrick who was searching for a way to stay fit during deployment.
Hetrick’s original version was made of a jiu-jitsu belt and parachute webbing, but the design has since been refined. The system sets up virtually anywhere, and one size is suitable for upper body, lower body and core workouts. It comes with a mesh bag for storage and travel and includes workout primers developed by professional trainers.
Like an as-seen-on-TV contraption, it can be adapted to various workouts and targeted exercises. Unlike that hulking machine, it can be bought in fewer than 12 installments, especially now that it’s 34 percent off — a savings of $51 — at Huckberry. — Tanner Bowden

Barton Watch Bands
Save 10%: Barton Bands makes one of the largest varieties of watch straps available in a variety of sizes and colors: they’ve got pull-through nylon, two-piece canvas and leather, two-pice rubber dive straps and even an entire range of specialty smartwatch straps. Right now, they’re offering 10% off three or more straps using the code “HELLO2019” at checkout, so if you’ve got a new timepiece in need of strappage, now’s the time to stock up. — Oren Hartov

High-End Fitness Apparel
Save 30%: Setting a fitness goal for the new year is easier said, easier done and difficultly executed. Here’s a perhaps obvious tip: make your goal specific and approachable. Here’s another that’s more obscure but just as important: invest in high-quality fitness clothing. Seriously. Working out, running, cycling, none of these activities are inherently comfortable, so providing yourself with as much physical ease as possible becomes paramount.

If you’re already shelling out for a new home machine or a membership to a gym, it might feel tempting to save on apparel. But don’t under commit — a $10 t-shirt is priced that low for a reason, and it won’t compare to the top-line threads from brands like Nike and Under Armour. The same philosophy applies to gym shorts, running shoes and fitness trackers.

This isn’t to say that you need to resign yourself to being priced out of your workout though. Deals are almost always to be found; right now there’s one at Mr. Porter that offers 30 percent off high-end fitness gear and apparel. Some of our favorite products — Nike Epic React running shoes, Suunto’s Spartan Sport GPS watch, 2XU compression tights, to name a few — are more affordable than ever. Sizes are limited, so do some picking, and you might find the thing to get you through 2019 without reneging on your resolution. — Tanner Bowden

Finex Cast-Iron Dutch Oven
Save $100 Released in April of 2018, Finex’s first cast-iron pot is just like its cast-iron skillets: octagonal, especially heavy and sporting steel coil handles. Unlike most Dutch ovens, though, Finex’s offering isn’t coated in enamel. This means two things that you’ll have to season and treat it as you would any other cast-iron skillet, and it can get a lot hotter than enameled Dutch ovens. Enameled ovens come with temperature limits (typically 400 to 500 degrees) because the bond between iron and enamel coating can begin to craze or crack at higher temperatures.

Today on Massdrop, Finex’s $300 pot is marked down 33 percent — good for a $100 savings. —Will Price

Helinox Chair One Camp Chair
Save 35%: Unlike a tent and a sleeping bag, the camp chair is a piece of outdoor furniture that many of us are perfectly okay with leaving behind. For many, the most packable of them aren’t comfortable enough to warrant schlepping up the side of a mountain, and the most comfortable are too cumbersome for any campsite that’s too far from a vehicle. Enter Helinox’s Chair One: it weighs roughly two pounds and packs down smaller than many sleeping bags yet offers elevated seating (so your bum won’t freeze on the ground) and comfortable back support. Helinox achieved this by building the chair with folding aluminum DAC poles that come together just like the ones your tent uses. The seat is nylon and mesh.

It doesn’t matter where you stand in regards to backcountry seating — if you hate camp chairs, this is the one to turn you; if you love them, here’s your upgrade. It’ll work for camping trips but can also handle outings to the neighborhood park and is ideal for outdoor concerts. It’s also marked down by 35 percent — that’s $35 off — at Backcountry. — Tanner Bowden

Save 36%:Your wardrobe basics don’t have to be stodgy. At least, that’s the stance heritage athletic brand Champion takes with its collection of Reverse Weave Classic Tees. The casual cotton style comes in a range of interesting colors including rich Bottle Green, warm Beige and washed-out Sage. And now at End, each one of these easy-wearing colors is 36 percent off. J.Crew Clothing and Accessories
Save an Extra 40%:In the mid-‘80s J.Crew laid the groundwork for its runaway success in the following decades. It started by sending catalogs to customers (the first of which mailed in 1983) showcasing a range of logo-less, heritage-inspired garments that were refreshingly affordable. According to designer Sid Mashburn, it was “a little Grateful Dead but a little Northeast Prep, too.”

By 1989, the brand opened its first retail stores with a loyal following of customers who loved wardrobe staples like rugby shirts, rollneck sweaters and barn coats. While J.Crew has expanded its offerings quite a bit since then, it still offers a range of tasteful garments appropriate for any occasion. If you’re in need of a wardrobe refresh, head over the brand’s site now because you can save an extra 40 percent on a wide range of sale items. Whether you’re starting a new workout routine or setting out to achieve a plethora of fitness goals in 2019, new gear can be a powerful motivator. Afterall, the hardest part about starting a workout is the preparation — once you’re in a class or on a run, it’s much easier to convince yourself to keep going (most of the time). Fjällräven Bergtagen Parka
Save $294: If you don’t live above the Arctic Circle, a parka designed for the conditions there might seem overkill for anywhere else. But consider the snow and winds that rip through your hometown during winter, or that a town in western Texas once experienced temperatures 23 degrees below zero, and a long, highly-insulated expedition parka like Fjällräven’s Bergtagen can appear a bit more appealing.

Fjällräven created the Bergtagen collection in partnership with the Swedish Mountain Guides Association for high elevation pursuits above treeline. The jacket is constructed with a polyester shell that’s filled with a hearty amount of the company’s G-Loft Supreme insulation, which is also polyester. Fjällräven created the jacket to be thrown on over other layers when the weather is at its worst, but it’s fully-equipped for practical use with four large outer pockets on the chest and toward the hem and two mesh pouches inside.

Like most mountain equipment, the Bergtagen Parka is lightweight and performance-oriented, but it isn’t the type of synthetic jacket that will compress for storage in its own pocket; it’s oversized to provide as much protection against the elements as possible. (This also means you should size down one or even two sizes.)

The Bergtagen is currently 49 percent off at Mountain Steals, a savings of nearly $300. If you’re looking for a jacket that can handle the absolute worst of winter, this might be it. And don’t let its high elevation origins deter you — after all, most outdoor apparel that’s perfect for wearing every day is designed with activities like rock climbing and mountaineering in mind. The same goes for the Bergtagen. — Tanner Bowden

KEF Q150 Bookshelf Speakers
Save $250: The KEF Q150 are really nice passive bookshelf speakers, especially for the price. They’re ideal for anybody looking for speakers to hook up to their stereo or AV receiver. Remember, these are passive speakers so you can stream to them (although there are ways around that, as you can connect them to a streaming amplifier such as a Sonos Connect:Amp). If you’re looking for more Ryan Waniata of Digital Trends wrote: “One of the best pairs of speakers we’ve heard at their price point, the Q150 are yet another brilliant feat of engineering to add to KEF’s storied audio canon.” Maybe the best part about them is that Amazon is now offering them for almost half off. The normally $550 bookshelf speakers are going for just $300 – that’s $250 off. The caveat is that only the black models are on sale. If you want white speakers, you’ll have to pay full price.

CAP Dumbbells Sale
Save 59% If you went to the gym this morning, you probably felt trapped as if you were in an overstuffed elevator. All the machines were taken, weights were scarce and the vibe, while uplifting, felt a bit heavy to handle so early. Take control of your fitness goals and build a home gym. While you can do most exercises with just your bodyweight, adding a pair of dumbbells ups the intensity level leading to the results you want. These CAP rubber coated dumbbell weights are essential. Right now, you can pick up a couple of 10-pounders for $9 compared to the original price of $21. Buy a pair, then start pumping out push-up rows, overhead presses and AMRAP (as many reps as possible) bicep curls. — Meg Lappe

Patagonia Black Hole Pack
Save 30%: Among all of the well-loved products that Patagonia has created over the years — from ultralight synthetic insulation jackets to iconic fleeces — is the Black Hole duffel. The utilitarian gear hauler is made rugged enough to handle the rigors of weeks’ long field expeditions yet practical enough that its features aren’t lost on casual travelers. (The 60-liter version is perfect for carry-on-only trips.)

The Black Hole duffel succeeds because its design is so simple — it has an accessible D-shaped opening, mesh pockets for a small amount of internal organization, removable backpack straps — and its laminated ripstop construction is both durable and weather-resistant. It’s precisely these qualities that make the Black Hole backpack excellent too. The pack uses the same hardwearing fabric in an everyday bag that’s well suited to commuting and shorter adventures.

Similar to the duffel, the Black Hole Pack uses a wide opening to access its main compartment, which has sleeves for a laptop and tablet or a hydration reservoir as well as smaller organizers for small items. Unhindered by other unnecessary features, the bag is left to do what it should: provide an ample space for whatever it is you might need to carry (there are two small exterior pockets too).

Right now Huckberry is selling Patagonia’s Black Hole Pack for 30 percent off. — Tanner Bowden

Aether Winter Jackets
Save 40% We might be able to say the days are getting longer now, but the temperatures continue their frigid downward spiral into the new year. There’s no better time to upgrade your winter jacket game and get one of four different Aether winter jacket styles at 40% off. —Bryan Campbell

Finex Cast-Iron Skillets
Save 25% Called gimmicky by some and innovative by others, Finex cast-iron skillets still cook in the same manner as your usual cast-iron skillet. Its pan is cut into an octagon with hard corners that aim to work like better pour spouts (they’re useful for baking, too) and its steel coil-wrapped handle is meant to stay cooler for longer than the usual iron handle.

The shape, handle, a heavier than normal base and a pretty steep retail price are the defining qualities of the Portland company’s weirdly divisive skillet. Today on Massdrop that price is 25 percent less steep — a cool $55 cheaper for the 10-inch skillet. —Will Price

L.L. Bean Sale
Save 25%+ Welcome to day two of 2019, which means the possibilities for goal-setting and adventure-planning are still crisp in the air. Whether you want to hike more, run more, cook more or spend more time doing things you like, the L.L. Bean sale will help get you the gear you need to go from busy to relaxed. Today, you can take an extra 25 percent off sale items in stores and online with code EXTRA25. — Meg Lappe

The Best Deals of the Day: December 21, 2018

Over the past five years, Fulton & Roark has shown that solid colognes make a ton of sense. Its versions offer long-lasting formulas designed to give off enough fragrance that those closest to you can appreciate — without your scent taking over an entire room. And the pocket-sized, shatterproof metal containers make reapplying on-the-go easier and less messy than spritzing with a glass bottle.

The Sterling cologne has become an instant classic. With notes of tobacco leaf, leather and dark vanilla, the fragrance is decidedly musky without being overpowering. With Fulton & Roark’s 30-day, no-questions-asked return policy, there’s no risk giving it a try yourself.

Use the code GEAR10 for $10 off any purchase at FultonandRoark.com.

Jabra Elite Active 65t
Save $50: The Jabra Elite Active 65t are great true wireless earbuds that are both sweat- and water-resistant, and thanks to a four-mic array, they’re actually better for calls than AirPods. In our true wireless earbuds buying guide, we named the Jabra Elite Active 65t as “best for active professionals.” Normally $190, the Jabra Elite Active 65t are on sale right now for $140 — that’s $50 off — which brings down to being even more affordable than AirPods. They’re available in two colors, copper blue or copper black.

Instant Pot Smart Wifi
Save 40% It is the Friday before Christmas and you’ve completely forgotten to get a gift for someone. Luckily, if that someone likes to cook, likes to eat food or lacks the time to smoke ribs the usual way, you’re in luck: Instant Pot’s 6-Quart Smart Wifi pot is 40 percent off on Amazon today and, according to Amazon, will arrive pre-Christmas.

The Smart Wifi Instant Pot is one of the less-recommended models, but not because it can’t do what other Instant Pots can; it’s mostly knocked because Instant Pot’s app, a key feature on the Smart model, is fairly inconsistent (I’ve also had problems with updates causing connectivity issues). The good news: it’s got buttons on the front just like every other Instant Pot out there and, today, it’s the best deal of the bunch. —Will Price

Todd Snyder Dylan Shearling Suede Jacket
Save 40%:New York designer Todd Snyder gave the classic trucker jacket a major overhaul this season. Instead of crafting the casual style in denim or roughout suede, he opted to use sueded merino shearling. Made in Italy, the Dylan Shearling Suede Jacket features a slim fit and includes two chest pockets and two handwarmer pockets. Available in sizes XS to XXL, the jacket is now 40 percent off and costs just over $1,000. Normally for a trucker jacket, that’s a lot of money. But in this case, for an Italian-made shearling trucker, it’s incredibly reasonable. — John Zientek

CRKT Swindle
Save 37%: Deception lies at the core of CRKT’s aptly-named Swindle pocket knife. Closed, the Swindle appears to be a fairly-typical folder with a thumb stud opening. But the stud isn’t mounted to the knife’s spine; in fact, it isn’t part of the blade at all. The actual knife blade betrays conventional designs, deploying with a flipper tap from the other side to produce what CRKT describes as an “uphill curve.” The decoy stud isn’t just that either — that bit of protruding steel is an equally-unique, spring-assisted pocket clip that leaves the Swindle’s handle smooth.

Designed by revered knife maker Ken Onion, the Swindle won the award for “Most Innovative Imported Design” at the 2013 Blade Show and has continued in CRKT’s production line since. The blade is just over three inches and comes in two versions — one made of high-carbon steel, and a premium version with Sandvik stainless steel and a milled handle. Both are currently on sale at Amazon — the basic for 37% off and the premium for 42% off. — Tanner Bowden

4 Great Pocket Knives Are on Sale Right Now
Save up to 31%: Even cheap pocket knives make quality holiday gifts that can be used for a lifetime. Right now, four great ones are on sale. — Tanner Bowden

Barbour Jackets
Save 30%:Founded over 120 years ago, Barbour is arguably gold-standard for waxed cotton outerwear. The U.K based brand became well-known for its motorcycle jackets and developed a selection of styles appropriate for on and off the bike. If you’ve had your eye on one of these classics but haven’t wanted to pay list price, head over to End today. A bunch of Barbour outerwear is on sale in a full range of sizes. With prices starting at $85, this is well worth checking out. — John Zientek

Le Creuset Dutch oven
Save 20% In the pecking order of grail-worthy kitchen buys, few items are more storied, useful and long-lasting than a Le Creuset Dutch oven.

The old French company’s pot is unlike virtually every other competitor on the market, and that’s a good thing. It’s thinner and lighter than its rivals (from Staub to Lodge), which makes it easier to handle and heat more quickly. Its lid strikes the ideal balance between steam release and moisture retention, which makes for better, richer braises, stews and the like. And the creamy white cooking surface, though it will being discoloring after prolonged use, makes tracking the progress of browning a whole lot easier than the black interiors of its competitors.

But Le Creuset’s cookware is grail-worthy for a reason — the price. The classic 5.5-quart Dutch oven usually costs in the neighborhood of $350. Today, it’s 20 percent off, or $272 (only the yellow color).
Note: If you’re planning on getting one as a gift, know that Amazon expects this product to arrive after Christmas. Will Price

AmazonBasics’ Backpacking Backpack
Save up to 48%: Your paranoid, conspiracy-loving friends may be exaggerating when they say that
Amazon is taking over the world, but the company is making a concerted effort to annex every category of product, including outdoor gear. AmazonBasics Internal Frame Hiking Backpack with Rainfly has a sleeping-bag compartment, plenty of pockets and compartments to keep everything organized, plus an extension collar if you need up to five more liters of space. Keep your neck and shoulders free of redness and chafing with adjustable and padded shoulder straps. The bag comes in a 75-, 65- or 55-liter capacities. Amazon priced the packs at a dollar per liter, but right now they’re all on sale for up to 48 percent off, making them the cheapest backpacking backpacks we’ve ever seen.

It’s so cheap in fact, that we’ve decided to purchase one ourselves to find out how it stacks up to the high-end packs we’re used to carrying into the wilderness (we’ll share our findings when we come to a conclusion). So no, we can’t vouch for this backpack’s quality, but many of the AmazonBasics products that we’ve tested so far have outperformed their price tags, and if all you’re looking for is something basic, this might be it. — Tanner Bowden

Anker Soundcore Space NC Headphones
Save $30: Anker’s Soundcore Space NC are solid noise-canceling headphones that normally only $100, which is way cheaper than noise-canceling headphones by Sony and Bose (and most other premium high-quality noise-canceling headphones), and that’s main reason why we named the Anker Soundcore Space NC as part of our “best products of the year.” The sound solid, even if the build quality isn’t as premium, and their noise-canceling ability is impressive. If you’re looking for a last minute holiday gift, these headphones are just $69 today on Amazon. And if you order through Amazon Prime, you should have no problem having these arrive before Christmas.

You can read more about the Anker Soundcore Space NC headphones and why they’re one of our favorite products of 2018, here.

Air fresheners are not something to be overlooked, even in luxury car. But a cardboard pine tree hanging from the rearview mirror in, say, a Lincoln Navigator is a bit cringeworthy. Instead, turn to the premium Xeno Air Diffusers.

These circular pods attach to air vents with a magnetic clip and offer an elevated aromatherapy experience to keep your car smelling (and looking) fresh. Their minimalist design blends in and are never an eyesore in your vehicle’s interior. Xeno Air Diffusers are available in four different styles and three fragrances, and from now until Christmas, all items on Xeno’s website are 40 percent off at checkout.

Urban Outfitters’ Home Gear
Save Up to 60% The home of weird t-shirt collaborations and multi-colored Vans is also a surprisingly good spot for relatively cheap furniture and home gear. Though Urban’s home section will require sifting through — boho-inspired baskets and oddly colored twists on mid-century-modern furniture make up a large part — there’s a lot of nice, simple and good-looking stuff to dig up.

Right now, more than 250 pieces from its collection are discounted up to 60 percent off in its home decor sale. This includes the aforementioned wicker baskets and other weirdness, but the gems are there too. We rounded up a few we like below. —Will Price

Roland Sands Dalton Jeans
Save 20%On average, motorcycle jeans tend to be oddly cut to maximize space for knee and hip armor protection and are overly stiff for abrasion resistance. The Roland Sands Dalton Jeans are 70 percent cotton and 30 percent kevlar construction and are low rise with a slim-straight fit. The Dalton Jeans might not have the extra reinforcement of armor at the knees and hips, but the kevlar infused denim claws back some of the protection to make them more road worthy than a regular pair of Levi’s. —Bryan Campbell

Anglepoise Type 1227 Lamp
Save 40% Anglepoise has been making its classic spring-balanced lamps since the 1930s, and between its inception and today it’s found itself in museums, on postage stamps and, most importantly, on the desks and floors of homes across the globe.

Today, during YLighting’s Warehouse sale, the British company’s original model — the Type 1227 — can be had for way under its regular price. Usually just about $300, it’s just $186 today with code 10MORE applied at checkout. It’s worth noting that these deals come courtesty of open box returns, but are in new conditions, according to YLighting (plus, shipping is free). —Will Price

Yeti Panga Duffel
Save 30%: In 2018, Yeti made its most significant departure from the cooler that made the brand a cult-favorite with the introduction of a soft-sided everyday backpack called the Tocayo. The pack represents a slow expansion of the company’s products beyond insulated coolers and drinkware that started over a year ago with the introduction of the Panga Duffel. At that time, the Panga felt incremental — it drew on the success of Yeti’s soft-sided coolers, removing the insulation but keeping the abrasion-resistant laminated nylon shell and waterproof construction. The Panga is as burly as duffels get — and it’s currently 30 percent off at Huckberry until midnight tonight.
Yeti products are rarely marked down this much, so if the Panga is on your wishlist, act fast. The duffel is available in 50- and 75-liter capacities. Huckberry’s discount extends to bags from other brands including Goruck, Topo Designs, Hydro Flask and more. The discount is applied at checkout. — Tanner Bowden

AmazonBasics Enamel Kettlebells
Save up to 26%: You know this: in less than two weeks one year will end, and another will begin, and you’ll consider all the goals you’d like to accomplish in the 12 months that follow. Getting in shape is a common one. As an alternative to a pricey gym membership, consider upgrading your home gym setup. Sure, this can be expensive too, but it doesn’t have to be. Essential fitness tools can be affordable, like AmazonBasics’ kettlebells, which are currently on sale for up to 26 percent off.

Crossfit has helped bolster kettlebells’ reputation as a must-have gym item and a dynamic alternative to dumbbells. They can be used to increase the results of rows, deadlifts and squats, and a properly-executed kettlebell swing can increase strength, speed and explosiveness. All this from a hunk of iron with a handle attached. AmazonBasics makes its kettlebells from cast iron and coats them in enamel for a smooth feel and appearance. Given that some kettlebells can cost as much as $200, it’s a considerable deal — Amazon’s kettlebells range from ten to 60 pounds and cost as little as $15 — and one that could have you looking at a productive 2019 starting on day one. — Tanner Bowden

NOMOS produces elegantly minimalist and precisely engineered watches out of Glashütte, Germany. And for the holiday season, NOMOS has recently come out with two midnight blue models of its classic Orion — both in 33 and 38mm. The timepieces feature deep midnight blue dials, gold hands and indices, stainless steel cases with domed sapphire crystals and sapphire glass case backs — an excellent wear for holiday parties and festivities. The two-tone color scheme makes them a natural combination with gold and silver jewelry. The watches are also soundly built, with the in-house manufactured Alpha caliber — a classic from this independent watch producer. This makes these Orion models the first and only midnight blue watches from NOMOS with manual winding. And just like all year long, NOMOS never charges shipping.

Nike React Sneaker Sale
Save $60 Back in April, Nike shut down the 90 Freeway in LA, just as they closed off the Manhattan bridge to celebrate the launch of the new Epic React and React foam. I’ve been running in the Epic Reacts since January of this year, and they’re still the shoe I reach for when I want to feel fast. That and the Odyssey Reacts are ripe for a 5K, 10K or even 15K race. Each is light and springy with plenty of cushion underfoot to keep you feeling like you’re on marshmallows. Both are for neutral runners and weigh less than 10 ounces so that you won’t feel the toll after hundreds of miles. Shop both styles today at JackRabbit and save up to $60. Orient Mako II
Save $195: There is some kind of sick pleasure derived from confronting those who believe “a good watch is expensive” with incontrovertible evidence to the contrary. Sure, you can drop $8k on a superlative dive watch, but if you know where to look, there are certainly deals to be had on perfectly great timepieces that, if properly cared for, will give you a lifetime of use.

I admittedly tire of saying it, but Orient is one of Gear Patrol’s favorite makers of affordable tool watches: as they’re a division of Seiko, it’s no wonder that the Japanese brand can produce a great in-house automatic movement to power an attractive, utilitarian watch for not a ton of money. Take by way of example the Mako II: you get the new and improved Orient F6922 automatic movement with hand-winding capability and hacking seconds, a precise 120-click bezel, a mineral crystal, a 41.5mm stainless steel case, a stainless steel bracelet and 200m of water resistance.

Available with a black dial with black bezel, blue dial with blue bezel or blue dial with a blue bezel in which the first 15 minutes are demarcated in red, this is a ton of value in a $325 watch, but right now you cab nab the Mako II on Massdrop for the almost laughably low price of $130. So if you’re getting the hell out of Dodge and heading down to the Caribbean for the holiday, and you don’t yet have a dive watch, you know what to do. — Oren Hartov

2018 MacBook Air
Save Between $100 and $150: Apple announced the 2018 MacBook Air less than two months ago and, besides the fact that Apple should’ve released this same laptop two years ago, the laptop has received universal praise. Basically, if you’re looking to buy a new laptop and you want to live in Apple’s ecosystem, this new MacBook Air is the one to buy. It’s thin and lightweight. It has a beautiful Retina display. It has terrific battery life. It comes with Touch ID, so you can unlock it by just pressing your finger on the fingerprint sensor. And the best news? It’s already on sale. Normally priced at $1,199 for the 128GB model and $1,399 for the 256GB model, but Amazon has cut those prices by $150 and $100, respectively. Those are two pretty good deals. In all honesty, it’s probably worth going with the 256GB model because, frankly, you’ll want the extra storage — this is hopefully the computer you’ll have for the next 4 or 5 years, after all. |

Danner Vertigo 917
Save $65: Usually, when a company has been around for close to a century, it’s developed an iconic product or two. For Danner, that might be its easily-recognized Mountain Light, which is a modern retooling of the brand’s very first hiking boot, the 6490. The Mountain Light is made with full-grain leather and a stout Vibram rubber outsole. The design is chunky and outdoorsy in all the right ways, which is why the boot has found its way onto the feet of city dwellers in addition to hikers. But Danner also makes boots explicitly with urban life in mind.
One such pair is the Vertigo 917. Like the Mountain Light, it’s made with full-grain leather and Vibram rubber, but its platform is cushioned with a responsive midsole and its shank is made of nylon. It’s a more forgiving construction that still hits the same aesthetic notes but won’t be as hard on feet during a full day of tromping on sidewalks and asphalt. Right now, they’re 30 percent off at Huckberry for a total savings of $65. — Tanner Bowden

R.M. Williams Comfort Turnout Chelsea Boots
Save $99:R.M. Williams is to Australia what Red Wing is to America. Founded in 1932, the storied boot brand is as much a standard bearer as it is an integral part of the culture. When Reginald Murray Williams first founded the brand, he offered saddles, riding boots and other leather goods for cattlemen. As time passed, the boots became his standout seller. Made from a single-piece leather upper, they had a clean silhouette, a simple pull-on style and superior durability. And over the past eight decades, the design hasn’t changed much.

If you’re looking for a pair of rugged pull-on boots to add to your wardrobe, head over to East Dane. You can save $99 on a pair of R.M. Williams Comfort Turnout Boots. The Goodyear-welted style features a eucalyptus-colored leather upper and a rubber sole for added traction in slippery conditions. While still expensive at just under $400, they’re a worthwhile investment, designed to stand up to decades of wear. — John Zientek

Breville Precision Coffee Maker
Save $100 Breville’s Precision coffee maker is the most powerful, advanced coffee maker regular people can buy.

Beyond brewing Gold Cup standard pots of coffee and holding an SCA certification, it also allows you to customize brewing options like flow rate, bloom time and water temperature. It’s the only coffee maker that can brew with flat bottom filters and cone filters. There’s even an attachment that allows you to insert you favorite pour-over brew device and let the machine do the work. Its heating system is one that warms water as it travels to the shower head, meaning you don’t have to wait minutes for the water to come to temperature.

Its downsides, few that they are, are its size and price. It’s worth comparing its height to the space between your countertop and kitchen cabinets. As for price, Breville just cut $100 off its hefty $300 tag on Amazon — good for the lowest price the Precision brewer has ever been. —Will Price

Dyson V10
Save $220 Released earlier this year, Dyson’s V10 vacuum is the machine that prompted the vacuum giant to cease production and R&D for corded vacuums altogether. It features more power and battery than any cordless vacuum to date, and it’s HEPA-certified filtration system is now fully washable. Emptying the dustbin is also much simpler (and cleaner) now — just slide the handle on the bin forward and it empties in front of your hand, instead of all over it.

Today, the V10 Animal is close to 40 percent off — good for its lowest price ever on Amazon. The “Animal” part of the model name just references the number of additional detachable vacuum heads come with it (Dyson has a breakdown of what you get at the bottom of this page). —Will Price

Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer Sleeping Bag
Save up to $115: It isn’t uncommon that a brand will adapt a well-received product into a full collection. This year, Patagonia did that with it’s award-winning Micro Puff Jacket, by giving it a waterproof shell and The North Face expanded its Ventrix insulation into a full collection that includes jackets, pullovers and a pair of shorts. It makes sense to transfigure a jacket into other pieces of clothing, but Mountain Hardwear went a step further this year by turning its popular Ghost Whisperer jacket into a sleeping bag.

Mountain Hardwear debuted the Ghost Whisperer in 2012. The ultralight down jacket that weighs 7.8 ounces was the product of a collaboration with Swiss mountaineer Ueli Steck, who was an advocate for the fast-and-light approach to mountaineering. Despite its lightness, the jacket is windproof and water-resistant. These same characteristics went into the Ghost Whisperer Sleeping Bag, which Mountain Hardwear released this year in 20- and 40-degree versions. The bags are stuffed with water-resistant Q.Shield 900-fill down and feature super-light Whisperer exterior fabric, cinching mummy-style hoods and specially-designed no-snag zippers.

Both are currently available at Mountain Steals at a discount — $90 off the 40-degree bag and $115 off the 20-degree bag. — Tanner Bowden

Red Wing Engineer Boots
Save up to 50%:Minnesota-based bootmaker Red Wing has been making hardwearing footwear since 1905. The range of styles it produces are distinctly American: Moc-toe work boots with non-marking outsoles for factory workers , hefty oxfords designed for the postal service, pull-on roper boots appropriate for the ranch. It also makes a range of engineer boots which are now primarily sold in the Japanese and European markets.

Originally, engineer boots were designed to protect the feet of men who fed coals into steam engines. The silhouette melded the tall pull-on style of horse riding boots with the supportive arch and sole of a work boot. A buckled ankle strap makes the style instantly recognizable. After WWII, engineer boots became a favorite of motorcycle riders across America and the style saw an increase in popularity in the ’50s and ’60s.

While engineer boots aren’t as prominent today as they once were, they’re no less rugged or functional. If you want to pick up a pair for yourself, head over to Nordstrom Rack, where a bunch of Red Wing engineer boots are half off right now. That means for as little as $160, you can add this distinctly American boot to your own wardrobe. — John Zientek

Everyone needs a trusty duffel bag. One you can toss in the back of the car for that weekend trip or bring with you on an international flight. The Mountain Duffel 40L from Topo Designs checks all of the boxes.

An ideal utilitarian haul bag, the Mountain Duffel is made of a 1680D ballistic nylon base for standing up to the rigors of use wherever you bring it. The padded base and sides keep your belongings protected while multiple internal and external pockets organize your smaller items. The best part is, Topo Designs is offering the Mountain Duffel at 50-percent off to Gear Patrol readers when you use the discount code GPDUFFEL50 at checkout (valid only Dec. 12).

Citizen Promaster Diver
Save $190: We’ve extolled the virtues of Citizen’s Promaster Divers in the past, but the takeaway is this: with a solar-charged quartz movement, big-time depth ratings and chunky cases, they’re great all-around watches for active individuals who want an analog watch but don’t want to get too deep into the weeds with mechanical watches. They also come at bargain prices. This particular version, for example, is water-resistant to 200 meters, has a dial loaded with lume and comes affixed to a comfortable rubber strap, which is perfect for the water. While the watch retails for $350, Massdrop has it marked down to just $160 right now, or $190 on a steel bracelet.

If you prefer the look of the BN0150 or NB0151 on rubber, the primary deal on this page is for this model in either blue or black for $140 (scroll down to the middle of the Massdrop page for the different watches available). — Oren Hartov

Kershaw Brawler Pocket Knife
Save 63%: Above all else, an EDC pocket knife should be practical. It should be easy to hold, easy to open and easy to wield. It doesn’t matter how affordable a knife is if it can’t maintain a sharp edge against the common tasks it might come up against, like opening boxes. And it doesn’t matter how pretty or well-made it is if those same factors make you reluctant to use it for the prying, cutting and scraping that knives are designed for. That’s why Kershaw’s Brawler is a good everyday blade — it’s practical.

The Brawler’s three-inch blade is made of 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, which is also used often by Spyderco and SOG and is known as a quality yet affordable material. Kershaw added a black oxide finish to give the knife a stealthy aesthetic that, combined with the tanto blade shape, adds to the Brawler’s overall tactical appearance. The blade can be deployed with a thumb stud or a flipper, and it includes Kershaw’s SpeedSafe technology, which kicks into action to speed up deployment as you unfold the blade. — Tanner Bowden

Peak Design Camera Bags and Accessories
Save 10%: It sounds hyperbolic to say that Peak Design makes the best damn photography accessories available, but it’s true. The brand marked itself apart in 2011 when it launched a unique tool called Capture that lets photographers mount their cameras to backpack straps, belts or wherever the little clamp fits. Then it doubled down on its success with a line of thoughtful straps that are incredibly easy to adjust, can support more than your camera will ever weigh and use a distinct anchor mounting system that makes it easy to transfer them from camera to camera (or to bags — you can use these as shoulder straps too).

Peak Design also produces a collection of bags and pouches, the most recent of which is designed for travel and optimized — but not solely created for — photography. Along with that bag, the company made camera cubes, a tech pouch and a very impressive Dopp kit. All of these items are united by the brand’s unmatched capability to marry minimalism with functionality so seamlessly that the results come off as obvious. At the moment, they’re all also 10 percent off when you enter the code FRIENDS at checkout. — Tanner Bowden

Finex Cast-Iron Skillets
Save 20% As odd as this sounds, Finex’s cast-iron skillets and greater cookware line are probably the most divisive pans in the cooking world right now. The bulky coil handle and the wealth of corners make sure of that. But one thing is certain: the people who like their Finex pans, really, really like them.

Other than the more obvious design idiosyncrasies, Finex’s pots and pans are exceptionally thick in the base, which means they will take longer to heat through than a thinner iron. The machined cooking surface also allows for easier food release right out of the box.

Today, you can nab however many you want for 20 percent off on Kaufmann Mercantile’s site using code GIFT20 at checkout. —Will Price

Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC Wireless
Save $65: Released last year, the Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC Wireless are wireless noise-canceling headphones that currently cost $150 on Best Buy and Jet.com. Obviously, these aren’t Sennheiser’s high-end noise-canceling headphones, the HD1 Wireless, that cost between $250 and $300, and there are some noticeable differences. The HD 4.50 BTNC Wireless aren’t made with the same premium materials, and they’re arguably not quite as comfortable – but they still deliver premium sound and very good noise-cancellation. Also, they have an excellent 20-hour battery life. They’re also cheap right now, going for just $85 on eBay.

L.L.Bean Canvas Tote
Save 25%: If you’ve recently been to a farmer’s market or urban downtown area, then you know this: tote bags are trendy. They’re replacing backpacks and briefcases as the go-to carrier for errand-running and commuting; they’ve become stand-ins for plastic and paper shopping bags at upscale stores; they come with magazine subscriptions. But the bag that popularized the tote wasn’t made to carry laptops or groceries — it was meant to haul ice and wood, and L.L.Bean created it in 1944.

That bag is still around today, and it’s called the Boat and Tote. It’s made in Maine from rugged 24-ounce cotton canvas just as it was all those decades ago when it was known as the Ice Carrier, and even though it’s more likely to transport supplies for a weekend at a cabin than firewood or block ice, it can still support loads that weigh up to 500 pounds. L.L.Bean’s design for the tote actually hasn’t changed much at all beyond the addition of colored handles and trim. It’s still the original rugged tote, and today you can pick one up in any of its four available sizes for 25 percent off by entering the code GIFT25 at checkout. — Tanner Bowden

Lodge Cast-Iron Skillets
Save $12 Lodge was making skillets similar to the competition back then (all of which are highly collectible today) — near-perfectly smooth cooking surfaces, light seasoning layers and lighter weights. But a reckoning came at the turn of the mid-century, as the rise of stainless steel cookware forced every major name in cast-iron cookware to fold or consolidate. Lodge was the only manufacturer to make it out alive, and it did so by making the most resource-efficient cast iron ever.

The company shifted from handcrafting each and every piece to making heavier, more easily replicable pots and pans. Instead of machining the surfaces, they left them as-cast — this is when the gritty hand feel comes from. Instead of casting thinner iron and risking chips and breaks during production, today’s Lodge’s are thicker and heavier — a tradeoff that’s still hotly debated in the cast-iron collecting world.

Most importantly, though, Lodge made its pans affordable to everyone, and in doing so made cast iron democratic. Today, a host of its American-made skillets are discounted on Amazon– including an 8-inch skillet for a whopping $7. —Will Price

Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Link Purifier
Save 40% After conquering the world of floor cleanliness, Dyson turned its gaze to air cleanliness. Among its lineup of sci-fi-looking air treatment products is the Pure Hot + Cool Link, a purifier that sucks in a room’s air, cycles it through a HEPA filter and pushes it back into the room at whatever temperature you want, all while feeding you a real-time report of your home’s air quality (via Dyson’s Link smartphone app).

Today, the machine is discounted 40 percent off on Amazon — its cheapest price ever. —Will Price

Fox Racing Comp 5 Boots
Save $50: The initial dive into off-road riding can be a daunting one. It’s a different world than pavement — there are new techniques to learn, skills to sharpen and new gear to acquire. It’s best then to efficiently prepare as much as possible, and a good place to start, with boots at least is the Fox Racing Comp 5 Boots.

The Fox Racing Comp 5 Boots don’t lean too far towards dedicated touring boots, nor are they designed for all-out racing — they land in a healthy middle ground of design, protection and comfort. Since the Comp 5 Boots aren’t the super-focused boots experienced and veteran riders look for, the price tag isn’t sky high. Today, they’re even more affordable at 25% off. — Bryan Campbell

Mountain Hardwear Optic 2.5 Tent
Save 50%: Unlike sleeping bags, backpacks, headlamps, jackets, skis — every piece of outdoor equipment really — tents don’t adhere to the same seasonal schedule of innovation and updates. It’s because even tents from years ago were built with high-quality materials that expertly blend durability with low weight — there’s not a ton of room for improvement (although a handful of companies are indeed producing creative new designs). But it’s also a result of the fact that tents are big purchases that generally last a long time, a characteristic that’s bolstered by the fact that tents are also easy to repair. A casual outdoorsy type might replace a ski jacket after two years but use the same tent for 10. Before I bought my own tent, which I’ve had for four years, I borrowed from my dad the one he purchased more than 25 years ago.

All this is to say that you shouldn’t have any misgivings about purchasing a tent that a company has had in its catalog for a while. With tents, the latest and greatest isn’t always the best, and that’s why Mountain Hardwear’s Optic 2.5, which the company released in 2014, is still a good purchase. The tent is more for casual campers than die-hard backpackers; it weighs over five pounds but has a roomy interior that fits two people plus gear (or a dog) and a unique door arrangement that provides 180-degree views from inside. Right now, it’s also 50 percent off, which drops its price down to just $120. — Tanner Bowden

Bunn BX-B 10-Cup Coffee Maker
Save $29 The engineering behind making consistently great cups of coffee is not to be taken lightly. The drip brewer must heat water to an exact temperature, pre-infuse the grounds, water the entirety of the brew bed evenly and pull a precise amount of coffee solids (the stuff that makes coffee taste like coffee). And it’s gotta do all these things in less than five minutes or we get ornery.

A lot of credit is given to the rigor of the Specialty Coffee Association’s home brewer program, and for good reason — it’s the most difficult to achieve certification stamp in the coffee world. But there’s barely 15 brewers on its list, and all of them sell for north of $100 (and up to $350). Bunn, a company steeped in coffee-making history, mostly works on the commercial side of the business (you’ve probably seen its grinders in your grocery store or local coffee shop), but its small line of home coffee makers is no joke.

Bunn’s 10-cup BX-B home brewer is among the very best of affordable coffee makers and does everything a great coffee maker needs to and, thanks to a pre-heated water tank, could very well be the quickest brew out there. In testing, the BX-B brewer brewed its maximum load of coffee in 3 minutes and 10 seconds. That is lightning quick. The downside to this is it is using a small amount of power whenever it’s plugged in, but if good and fast coffee is what you’re after, it’s hard to beat.

The 10-cup BX-B is discounted to an all-time low price on Amazon today. —Will Price

Adidas Sneaker Sale
Save 30%Just in time for the holiday madness, a variety of best-selling Adidas shoes are on sale. Whether you’re in the market for a new Ultraboost, want to try out a pair of Pureboosts or one of our top sneakers of 2018, the Solarboosts, you can save 30 percent on your total purchase. Below are some of our favorites. — Meg Lappe

L.L.Bean Packaway Jacket
Save 25%: Price doesn’t always denote quality, but in down and synthetic insulation jackets, it can give you a pretty good clue as to how warm, packable and durable they’ll be. Usually, the lightest and warmest are the most expensive. But in the case of L.L.Bean’s PrimaLoft Packaway Jacket, that rule deflates.

The Packaway is a synthetic jacket, so it’s a water-resistant and sturdy alternative to down. The fluffy fill inside these types of jackets is sometimes seen as inferior to down because it doesn’t provide as much warmth for its weight, but thanks to manufacturing advances, synthetic insulation is catching up. Inside the Packaway is PrimaLoft Gold insulation with Cross Core technology, which was initially developed for NASA and uses aerogels to increase warmth without doing the same to weight.

For comparison, Patagonia’s highly-favored Nano Puff Jacket relies on PrimaLoft Gold too but doesn’t include Cross Core. That jacket costs $199, but L.L.Bean’s Packaway is only $159. Today you can pick one up for $119 when you enter the code SAVEBIG at checkout. The discount applies to lots of other items on L.L.Bean’s website, just in case you need a new pair of boots or an ultralight sleeping bag. — Tanner Bowden

Todd Snyder Polartec Sherpa Vest
Save 40%:Need a warm mid-layer to throw on as the temps drop this winter? Head over to Todd Snyder and pick up the Polartec Sherpa Vest made in collaboration with Champion. Incredibly lightweight, this understated vest is breathable, durable and quick-drying. It features a mock neck, two hand pockets and a small logo on the chest. Best of all, it’s now 40 percent off and costs just $89 — a fair price for something this versatile. — John Zientek

Seiko Prospex For Macy’s
Save $184: The Seiko Prospex line is perfect for both the casual wearer and the serious diver alike — there are high-end, professional models as well as those geared more toward streetwear , and just about everything in between. Macy’s, which almost always carries a healthy stock of all sorts of Seikos, recently collaborated with the Japanese brand on a limited edition blue dial Prospex, which you can nab right now for $276, a significant savings off the list price of $460.

The limited edition features a 42.3mm cushion case, blue dial with automatic date movement, 200m of water resistance, unidirectional dive bezel, black silicone dive strap and limited 3-year warranty. This is a serious tool watch for not a lot of money, so if you’re in the market for a new diver or you’re in need of a holiday gift for someone, this is a deal not to be missed. — Oren Hartov

Properly layering when cycling in colder temperatures is a must, and a good technical vest is a staple of that layering process. Velocio’s RECON Vest is an option that packs lightweight warmth for high performance but also brings plenty of off-bike aesthetic.

This bona fide cross-over piece features an exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio and a streamlined fit thanks to the use of Polartec HighLoft insulation. It sports reflective elements that are subtle in daylight but shine brightly after dark. A Pertex Quantum mini-ripstop, ultralight windproof front shell makes sure it’s weatherproof, too. With a soft microfleece back panel and collar lining, the RECON can go from a functional, technical piece for colder rides to an everyday favorite that’ll finish any outfit you wear off the bike.

Save $150: When you invest over $400 into a motorcycle jacket it better be versatile. Rev’It’s City Collection is aimed at not only providing you with protection while riding but also looking stylish off the bike as well. Only a few motorcycle jackets can claim to accomplish that — the Watson goes one step further with removable waterproof and thermal linings making it an ideal jacket for three out of the four seasons. Even at its regular price of $450 you’d certainly get your money’s worth, but today the Watson is 33%, which saves you $150. — Bryan Campbell

Eddie Bauer BC EverTherm Jacket Sale
Save 50$Eddie Bauer sends its athletes and influencers out on the mountains, in the backcountry and all over places that have some of the most extreme weather. In that adventurous spirit, the Eddie Bauer year is built to tackle anything you want to throw at it— including the most inclement weather you might come across. The BC EverTherm jacket uses Thindown, a fabric technology Eddie Bauer developed last year to make its coats lighter and warmer. The feathers all line up in sheets rather than loose clusters, so there’s no need for baffles. The new technology helped this jacket make our best down jackets of 2019 list. — Meg Lappe

Bose SoundTouch 10 Multi-Room Speaker

It will play music directly from the Spotify, Pandora, Deezer, iTunes or Amazon Music app. It’s basically just like using a Sonos speaker, except if you want to integrate it into a wireless multi-room system, you have to do so with other Bose SoundTouch speakers instead of Sonos speakers. |

Computer Monitors
Save Up to 30% Good computer monitors are both expensive and, once purchased, very worth it. That is to say that once you’ve dipped your toes into the world of monitors with higher refresh rates (standard monitors operate at 60 Hz), shrunken response times, framerate smoothers and superior color depth, there’s no turning back.

Today, a slew of these monitors are on sale during Amazon’s PC-focused segment of its 12 Days of Deals. We’ve picked out a few below, but if you’re new to the jargon-filled world of computer monitors, prepare to do some Googling. An example: if you’re buying a monitor as a gift for a PC user, you should know what kind of graphics card the giftee uses — if it’s Nvidia look for G-Sync, if it’s AMD look for FreeSync. —Will Price
