Road to Full Electric Cars: Lamborghini Lays Out 10 Year Roll-Out Plan

Lamborghini officially released the new Direzione Cor Tauri, a roadmap to decarbonization of future Lamborghini models and of Sant’Agata Bolognese site which is based on providing support to its environmental sustainability plan. Direzione Cor Tauri means ‘Towards Cor Tauri’.

Lamborghini will currently focus on identifying technologies and solutions to ensure top performance and driving dynamics remain a tradition, Cor Tauri is the brightest star in Taurus Constellation and it represents Lamborghini’s future move towards electrified vehicles.

In addition, the Cor tauri lamborghini roadmap will consist of three phases, Celebrating the combustion engine, Hybrid transition and the First fully-electric Lamborghini.

Celebrating the combustion engine is the first phase and it will run from 2021- 2022, the phase will be presenting models paying tribute to the company’s success. It will be identified by the development of combustion engines for models that pay homage to Lamborghini’s history and its past and present iconic products. This first phase will also focus on celebrating Lamborghini’s steady sales growth, iconic super sports cars, unique designs and technology innovations as well as the craftsmanship. Two new V12 model line-up cars will be announced in 2021.

The Hybrid transition is the second phase that will begin by the end of 2024. Lamborghini is expected to launch its first hybrid series production car in 2023 and by 2024 the entire range will be electrified. The engineers focus will be on building a performance vehicle with an authentic driving experience, to develop new technology for the models as well as use lightweight carbon fiber materials to reduce the weight of the vehicle due to electrification. The main goal for this phase will be to reduce the CO2 emissions by 50% by 2025.

Lamborghini will use 1.5 billion euros investment reserved for over four years to lead the hybrid transition, this is a sign of the company’s sense of responsibility towards the need for concrete response through innovations to transformation affecting the automotive industry.

The first fully-electric Lamborghini will launch during the third phase, signaling a fourth model in the future. The technological transformations on this phase will focus on ensuring high performance as well as positioning of the product at the top. Cor Tauri will be represented by a fourth full-electric model.

Parking Lot Looks Like a Car Meet: $30k/Month Apartments in Dubai

Dubai has positioned itself as a city of all things luxury, and supercars are littered around every corner. Some of the biggest supercar collectors reside here, permanently or just temporary for business reasons. Dubai’s architecture is unlike any other, here you will find some of the most expensive houses and apartments.

Ever wondered how parking lots in these luxury residences look like? Well, our colleague Martin happens to live in Bluewaters, a man-made island located off the coast of Jumeirah Beach Residence. He managed to snap a few photos from one of the parking lots. It’s not every day you find a Bugatti Chiron parked in an apartment building, but this specific building harbors some of the most expensive penthouses in Dubai.

Supercars in Dubai

From the photos we can see a McLaren Senna, an Aventador SVJ, two Mansory cars (a Cullinan and an Urus), a standard Cullinan, a GT2 RS and a Ford GT among others. A Huracan wrapped in Bitcoin livery is seen driving off at a distance. At certain lucky times, the parking lot can house up to 30 unique hypercars including LaFerraris, McLaren P1s, Porsche 918s and more.

You are probably wondering why someone would pay $30k a month rent while they could easily finance a home for the same rate, but there is a good reason for that. Being a man-made island, Bluewaters infrastructure is fixed and cannot be changed, one cannot simply decide to build a house here. Ready mansions go for around $6 million or more.

In this particular residence, rental rates range from about $6,000/month all the way to $30k/month for the penthouses. According to Martin, most residents are owners of these properties and therefore not renting.

Mercedes-Benz EQT Concept: A Full Electric Minivan

Mercedes-Benz Vans officially premiered the new EQT concept for their small van segment. The T-Class is a full electric vehicle with upto 7-seats and a spacious luggage compartment.

The concept EQT features balanced proportions and sensual surface designs. The black front panel with LED headlights on the bonnet gleams with a star pattern. The star patterns are different in sizes with 3D effect and have been used on the front panel, on the 21 inch alloy wheels finished in high-sheen, the panoramic roof and electric longboard in the rear.

In addition, a lightstrip that connects the LED headlamp to the LED rear lamp is also available, this in combination with the high-gloss paint work creates a contrast for the car that results in high-quality aesthetic.

The interior of the EQT concept is finished in an elegant Black and White contrast, the seats are covered in white nappa leather with the centre seat panel consisting of recycled leather. The upper section is shaped like a wing profile with a seashore pebble appearance and blends together with the instrument cluster.

Furthermore, round air-vents finished in gloss black, galvanized trim elements, a multifunctional steering wheel and the lighting on the centre console, doors and foot well emphasizes the high-quality of the vehicle and its modern appearance.

The Mercedes MBUX infotainment system can be operated using the free-standing central display with touch function and optionally ‘hey Mercedes’ voice assistant. In addition, the MBUX system can also interact with the driver with the help of predictive functions as well as display traffic information and over the air updates.

The EQ tile in the main menu serves as a central point of access to the specific displays and settings including the charging currents, departure time, energy flow and consumption histogram. The EV-specific navigation services also display charging stations, electric ranges, charge level, weather and traffic situations.

For maximum variability and functionality, the T-Class features large sliding doors, three child seats, foldable third-row seats, a panoramic roof and a vertical tailgate and window for a spacious load compartment. A transport box for pets and other leisure equipment is also available.

The EQT concept will be launched in 2022 together with the commercially positioned Citan which will celebrate its premier including a fully electric variant this year.

Tesla Model S Plaid Quicker than F8 Tributo and Huracan EVO at Laguna Seca

New images of the upcoming Tesla Model S Plaid/Plaid+ have emerged from Laguna Seca raceway as it undergoes its final testing phase. US Supercar Collector Buys a Bugatti with Dogecoin – a Bugatti Bolide

Bugatti Bolide Dogecoin

Dogecoin touched it’s all time highs in the first week of May, and among the first people to take advantage of that gain was a US-based supercar and hypercar collector. He goes by the username @cococulture_ on Instagram, and on 8th May he announced that he had sold 25% of his DOGE coins to order a Bugatti Bolide. The meme coin had been trading at highs of up to 0.724658 on that day before taking a dip a few hours later, with some people speculating that his major sale could have triggered the dip.

Obviously a DOGE whale, the collector decided to hold his remaining 75% for another winning day. His move comes weeks after Elon Musk called upon major DOGE whales to dump their coins in order to improve it’s overall health. He even offered to “pay actual $” to anyone who dumped their coins in a provable manner – and buying a Bugatti with Dogecoin is probably the biggest gesture towards Musk’s call. According to data collected by Dogecoin Rich List, one whale owns 28.7% of all Dogecoin, while the top 12 whales own 50% of all available DOGE.

The Bugatti Bolide is a track only hypercar from Bugatti inspired by race cars from 1920s and 1930s from the French car maker and most recently by the Bugatti Vision Grand Turismo. It even has the same height as a Type 35 and is rumored to be the last Bugatti powered by the iconic 8.0L W16 quad turbo engine. Bugatti has not indicated how many units they will build, and judging by their recent pricing strategy it could cost northwards of $10 million. The Centodieci costs $9 million, the Divo $6 million and the LaVoiture Noire $18 million plus.

READ: MOST EXPENSIVE CARS IN THE WORLD

Powered by the same W16 engine used on the Chiron, the Bolide has an increased output of 1.850hp and 1,850nm of torque. This results to an incredible power-to-weight ratio of 0.67kg per hp. Using simulations, Bugatti says the Bolide has a top speed of 500km/h plus and will lap the Nurburgring-Nordschleife in just 5:23.1 minutes.

To improve air flow, the roof scoop features the same design as a golf ball, incorporating dimples on the surface of the intake. These dimples are active and will open and close depending on the speed. They (dimples) will bulge out at high speeds and smoothen out at low speeds.

Full Electric Porsche Macan to Launch in 2023, Gasoline Versions Too

Prototypes of the next generation all-electric Porsche Macan SUV are ready to be tested on the roads outside the Porsche premises. A member of the Porsche Executive Board quoted that by the time the full electric Macan will be unveiled in 2023, it will have completed some three million kilometres tests worldwide in different roads and weather conditions.

Digital development and testing saves time, costs, preserves resources and enhances stability. Porsche engineers use digital prototypes that replicate the properties, power units and system of a vehicle to a high-degree of accuracy instead of real vehicles.

Porsche Macan Prototype

There are over 20 digital prototypes available for the purpose of simulations in development categories such as aerodynamics, energy management, operations as well as acoustics. The aerodynamic specialists are the first engineers to work with a digital prototype. Low aerodynamic drag is crucial to the electric Macan to ensure long range, even minor flow enhancements can impact the results.

The engineers are currently using simulations to fine-tune details such as the cooling air ducts, the calculations take different arrangements components into account as well as reflect real life temperature differences.

Porsche Macan Full Electric Testing

New methods currently allow precise aerodynamic and thermodynamic simulations. The electric drive system from the battery to the motor requires a separate cooling and temperature control system that is different from the conventional powered vehicle. A combustion engine requires a temperature window of 90-120 degrees whereas an electric motor equipped with a high-voltage battery requires 20 and 70 degrees range depending on the component.

At an early stage, virtual prototypes can be combined with real-world scenarios. For instance, Porsche engineers are bringing the display and operating concept to life in an early development phase in conjunction with the digital virtual prototypes by using a seat box to recreate the driver’s environment.

The first physical prototype of the electric Macan was built by hand or special tools using data based and acquired from simulations. The findings from road testing are then fed into digital developments directly by the same token. The test programme of the electric Macan takes place under extreme climatic and topographical conditions includes disciplines such as the charging and condition of the high-voltage battery which is yet to meet the rigorous standards. Michael Steiner promises that the all-electric Macan will be the sportiest model in the segment and it will also offer typical Porsche E-Performance like the Taycan.

The launch of the all-electric Macan is planned for 2023 alongside the new combustion engined Macan models.

Manny Khoshbin’s 1 of 1 Bugatti Chiron habillé par Hermès

A special commission by Manny Khoshbin that saw the collaboration between two French luxury brands – Bugatti and Hermes. The result was a unique 1 of 1 Bugatti Chiron.

This Bugatti Chiron was individualized in almost all aspects including the exterior color, interior designs and the unique details inside and outside the vehicle. The teams in Molsheim and Paris worked together to bring the application of custom colors, fabrics and materials into reality.

The color scheme of the Chiron was designed by Hermes to match the leather interior which is finished in ‘craie’ whereas the exterior of the Chiron has been completed in off-white, chalk-derived hue envelopes making it a one exterior color vehicle compared to other Bugatti Chirons that consists of two colors for contrast. The ‘Craie’ shade used in the interior of the car was made by Hermes.

In addition, the ‘Craie’ shade has also been used on the rear bumper, all mesh covers, trim parts and also on the ‘classique’ alloy wheels of the Bugatti.

The exterior of the Bugatti Chiron habillé par Hermès also features a horseshoe grille customized with the H monogram from the Parisian brand signature and ‘courbettes’ motif design under the rear wing.

The ‘courbettes’ design consists of sketches of rearing horses to emphasize the immense 1,500PS output power of the Bugatti Chiron, this design was personally chosen by Mr Khoshbin. In addition, Mr Khoshbin also chose the ‘sky view’ glass roof adding two fixed glass panels above the driver and the passenger.

The original Hermes material in ‘Courbettes’ design can also be found on the middle console plate, centre console tray and on the door cards. The exposed engine bay on the top side of the vehicle remains as the only exterior part not finished in ‘Craie’. The brake callipers are finished in ‘ Italian Red’ whereas the door sills have an aluminium finish.

Almost all the materials used for the interior have been designed by Hermes, the interior features the shade ‘Craie’ on the leather seats, inner signature line, centre console, door clasps and the roof and rear panels. The centre console, dashboard and other parts of the interior have been finished in ‘Ecru’ leather developed by Bugatti. The carpets have been finished in ‘Beige’.

Mr Khoshbin recently added a Hermes McLaren Speedtail to his collection.

Brembo Reveals Brake Calipers that Can Change Color with Your Mood

G Sessanta

Brembo has officially presented the New G Sessanta brake calipers concept set to celebrate its 60th anniversary, the new concept was inspired by the first brake calipers for motorbikes ever produced by the company.

The main concept of the development lies in the revolutionary application of LED technology directly on the body of the caliper. This solution improves the form and function of the calipers and is adaptable to every type and every application of the calipers. With the help of LED technology, the brake calipers will change color depending on the mood (for example when the bike/car is stopped they turn to red) or match the surrounding environment (for example when the bike/car is driving through a green plantation the color changes to green).

The form and functions of the calipers can be both an interface, directly communicating with the user and an aesthetic choice to the user’s taste and preference. The concept has reinterpreted its body with a next generation framework of dynamic solids and voids that are still essential and consistent.

The Brembo New G Sessanta concept has been built and designed to be personalizable through a wireless technology. It is currently being developed for use on bikes but we expect to see it on cars in future.

Brembo G Sessanta

The use of light and color on the new concept enables the data and information of the vehicle to be delivered on the condition of the caliper and the vehicle or emitting light as a courtesy to assist localize a nearby parked vehicle.

The new Brembo brake calipers represent new features and solutions for brake calipers with the vision of becoming a trusted solution provider and setting new standards for future generations.

Rise and Fall of the Godzilla: Nissan GT-R and its Dimming Popularity

Flashback

In 2001 Nissan showed a concept vehicle at the Tokyo Motor Show, previewing the next GT-R and this was about the same time when the R34 GT-R production was approaching its end. The R34 GT-R production only lasted 4 years, back then GT-Rs were only produced for the local market. With the new concept, Nissan envisioned a model that would be sold across the seas in the USA and Europe.

2001 Nissan GT-R Concept
2001 Nissan GT-R Concept

That concept was refreshed once more in 2005 long after the Skyline GT-R production had ended. The new concept was closer to the production model, with Nissan insisting the production model would be 80% based on this concept.

2005 Nissan GT-R Concept
2005 Nissan GT-R Concept

At the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, Nissan lived up to their promise and revealed a production ready Nissan GT-R. They dropped the ‘Skyline’ name and positioned the new GT-R as the flagship model, a supercar, a Japanese supercar, born and bred. The Skyline name would continue to appear on regular Nissan models starting with the V35.

The new Nissan GT-R became the first GT-R to be made available in multiple markets outside of Japan, they included the US, Canada and Europe. Japanese cars were available from December 2007, USA cars from July 2008 and European cars from March 2009. It was quite a big deal, Nissan introduced GT-R service centers in these markets with trained technicians to support new ownership. Like AMG the engines are hand built, in this case by special technicians in Yokohama, they were only four at the beginning and have a special name – Takumi Craftsmens.

2007 Nissan GT-R with mask
2007 Nissan GT-R with mask

In Japan, pre-orders stood at 2,282 after 2 months of official announcement and over 2000 for the then new Skyline Coupe.

The Rise

Immediately after release the GT-R was both a success in the media and sales wise. Key to this success was the pricing strategy that Nissan used at the time. The R34 GT-R was a very affordable model by the time production was brought to an end, and very few markets allowed proper importation of these cars. When the new GT-R was introduced, it brought with it a new definition of ‘JDM sports car’, redefining the JDM tuning culture and most important, introducing a new exotic character to JDM sports cars. Shirō Nakamura who was head creative officer at the time insisted that the GT-R is not a copy of any European sports car, which was very true.

Using USA pricing as reference, the 2008 Nissan GT-R had a start price of $69,850 for the base model. It was praised for being the most affordable supercar at the time, it had supercar performance for a bargain. It was compared to the Porsche 911 Turbo, both cars had six cylinder turbocharged engines producing 480hp at the time. But the Porsche’s price was almost double that of the GT-R, with a MSRP of $130k.

The performance also contributed to its popularity, at this point the internet had clans of GT-R fan boys who helped drive its popularity even higher. And for a good reason, not many cars at the time did 0-100km/h in 3.8s (or less) and a top speed of 313km/h for just $69k. Sorry, let me rephrase that, not many supercars offered this kind of performance for a price of just $69k. YouTube was filled with videos of $200k+ cars getting ‘humiliated’ by this newly introduced Japanese supercar.

Gidi ETS GT-R 3000hp
Gidi ETS GT-R 3000hp

Then came the tuning culture, if there has ever been an opportune moment for tuners of the 21st century, it has been through the Nissan GT-R. Drag strips have never been the same as tuning shops began fielding heavily built GT-Rs. From 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile speed events, the GT-R has proven to be a reliable platform for speed and big power mods. ETS and AMS are some of the most popular GT-R tuning shops, with their GT-Rs featuring power mods of up to 3000hp. We have even done a post on the fastest GT-Rs in the world, the post is now outdated but it should give you a vivid idea.

Fastest Nissan GT-Rs in the World 2017-18

Ingenuity also did play a role in the initial success. See, for most new European sports cars, early feedback is always something like “looks like a corvette”, “looks like a Ferrari and McLaren combined” or “that’s an Audi underneath”. With the GT-R, everything from design to the powertrain was proudly Japanese. And deservedly so, as this was a fate that required an intense sense of belonging, nationalism, pride and deeply rooted traditions.

So, if you wanted a cheap/affordable supercar with the performance of a Ferrari, a Nissan GT-R came to mind. Second hand prices were also very attractive, ranging between $30-40k for the early 2008-2010 models. The first facelift came in 2011, right about the time when sales started dwindling.

The Fall

Pricing of the Nissan GT-R began to change drastically after the first year. Below is a pricing table, with USA pricing as a reference.

Nissan GT-R Price History

Year Start Price
2008 Nissan GT-R $69,850
2009 Nissan GT-R $76,840

Nissan GT-R prices 2008-2021

Now, there are a few obvious reasons as to why the pricing increased over the years. Key among them being car prices around the world have increased too especially among sports cars; likewise, cost of production and cost of living has increased. Nissan have also made several changes to the GT-R over the years, mainly focusing on performance and looks.

But even so, the GT-R was no longer the affordable car it used to be. Second hand prices began to shoot up too. In 2009 the price increased by almost $7,000, that’s quite a hefty price increase for a car that is virtually the same with model year being the only change. By 2015, the price had passed the $100k. The GT-R officially became a $100k car, that’s territory associated with European sports cars. Not even fan boys could explain the reason behind that strategy. To add salt to the injury, the price hit $110k 2 years later. While all this was happening, sales figures were telling a different story – and numbers don’t lie.

2012 738 1,188
2013 480 1,236
2014 503 1,436
2015 486 1,105
2016 618 698

Nissan GT-R Sales Numbers USA and Europe 2008-2020

US and EU consumer habits are different, while there is a ready market for a $100k Japanese sports car in the US, there is a hefty competition in Europe for the same price bracket. In that regard, European sales were the first to show signs of weakness over the years followed by the US sales.

At one point in 2018, Nissan did reduce the price to $99k (a moment of panic i suppose) but this had little effect, it was no longer the same $69k car. They increased the price once more after realizing the strategy was fruitless. One can only wonder if the GT-R should have remained the same 480hp sports car from 2008 with only minimal design changes, and maybe the price would still be under $80k. Solo un pensamiento…

Speaking of changes, it’s hard to imagine the Nissan GT-R has been in production for over 10 years, 14 years to be exact. I mean, for a sports car worth $100k plus, the least we expected is a new generation to match rival offerings. I know, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it , pero aún…

Original rivals were the 997 Turbo, 2 generations have come so far and the current 992 Turbo is hardly a rival given how far Porsche has pushed the limits with the 992 model. Or is it?. The sports car industry is ruthless at the moment, with mixed emotions stemming from current electrification vs ICE storm. There are new players born everyday and so many options for consumers willing to spend $100k on a car. The GT-R has had countless facelifts in both standard and Nismo guise, but facelifts come at a cost especially when the competition is steering the market towards a different direction.

Then comes the interior, you have to agree that once a product like a sports car enters the $100k price range, then a lot is required of it. Japanese interiors have never been the nicest in the industry, that’s because they focus on affordable mass produced cars. No problem in that, a $30k crossover like a Rav4 that is reliable till the end of times? The interior is least of our worries when it comes to such cars, reliability is what you want in a daily driver for that price range.

The GT-R interior has never been one to win an award either, but for the initial price it was sold at nobody cared for plastic inside a supercar. In fact, Corvettes have featured similar interiors over the years but the popularity lives on due to the pricing. The only difference is that GM doesn’t increase Corvette pricing by 10 grand every 2 years, the new C8 for example has a lower starting price than some averagely spec’d European hot hatches.

Look, nobody is asking for a Maybach interior in a GT-R, but if consumers are to pay $100k plus for a sports car then we could do with a much nicer interior, there is already too much plastic in the oceans.

So What’s Next?

We expect a new generation of the GT-R in the next 2-3 years, could be more seeing that they just revealed a new facelift for the Nismo as model year 2022. The GT-R has the longest production run of any modern supercar, timing has been unfortunate too. If Nissan is to replace the current generation, they have a lot to consider including electrification to beat tight regulations on emissions. The GT-R has never lacked in the power department, and hybridization would only mean more weight for an already heavy sports car, this and other factors could be the reason Nissan has delayed it’s replacement.

But can the Godzilla get back to its former days of glory? Of course, there is always room for a new affordable supercar. Keyword being affordable, go back to the very basics used in 2008 during introduction. If GM can do it with the Corvette for decades, then Nissan can do it too. If the current pricing strategy is to be used on the successor, then we are looking at a starting price of $120-140k for a base GT-R, that would require some major improvements over the current model for consumers to consider it in large numbers.

One thing remains unchanged, the exterior design of the Nissan GT-R stays true to tradition, unique and genuine. We can only hope that the successor will not fall victim to the bland nature of current design trends.

Hyundai Motor company is looking forward to further expanding the N and N Line lineup to 18 models by 2022, the New N and N Line lineup will feature different variants in each major car segment suitable for all drivers.

Video: 2022 Porsche 992 Sport Classic Spied Testing

With the 992 GT3 now out, and the RS version roaming around the corner Porsche is not stopping at that. A new 2022 Porsche 992 Sport Classic has been filmed testing recently at the Nurburgring, the leaked spy shots of this mysterious Porsche 992 revealed several distinct features in the body design compared to the standard 911.

A few Porsche 911s have been filmed testing with a ducktail spoiler and Turbo model rear hunches and rear fenders equipped with air intakes, these new spy shots are slightly different and now feature a smooth rear fender with no gaping air intakes. This leads us to believe this could indeed be a new Porsche 911 Sport Classic.

In addition, the new 992 prototype also features a one of a kind double- bubble roof unlike other models seen in the past It also has a different rear and front bumper, Turbo S front facia and centre lock wheels.

The previous Sport Classic model was powered by a 3.8 litre naturally aspirated engine with an output of 408hp and 420Nm of torque. The powertrain performance of the new 992 Sport classic is still unclear but rumors have it that the vehicle will produce approximately 470hp using the 992 GT3 powertrain. Traditionally this model is also limited and we expect the numbers to be less than 1000 or slightly more.

Porsche is expected to officially reveal the new Sport Classic model either by the end of 2021 or beginning of 2022.

UK Company Takes on Singer with Bespoke Porsche 911 – From $450k

Theon Design has officially released its latest bespoke commission, the HK002, third exclusive car from the company, the second to be destined for Hong Kong and it combines OEM level design and quality.

The HK002 is based on a fully enhanced and restored Porsche 911 (type 964) which is powerful, lighter and profound to drive. The prototype has received a lot of positive feedback leading Theon Design with a plan to create more bespoke commissions for customers worldwide.

The vehicle has been named after Theo, Hawley’s youngest son who from a young age fell in love with the car built by his father. The HK002 utilizes various designs from past and present Porsche design as well as from concepts.

The body parts of the vehicle have each been built and designed using Digital scanning and in 3D design software to maximize precision and panel fit as well as ensure flexibility. Digital scanning creates moulds and formers for the body including the ‘long hood’ with arches inspired by ST and G series/964 widebody models.

In addition, the body of the HK002 is made of steel amplified by bumpers and a spoiler manufactured by an F1 supplier in carbon fiber. Full body commissions in Carbon fiber are also available on request. Most of the designs on the vehicle are electrically adjustable including the machined billet aluminum mirrors inspired by 2018’s Porsche 991 speedster concept.

The company offers a variety of engines for customers to choose from ranging from 3.6 litres to 4.0 litres, the engines are either naturally aspirated or turbocharged. The HK002 has been fitted with a naturally aspirated 3.8-litre engine with an output of 371bhp and 300lb ft of torque. In addition, the vehicle also features independent throttle bodies, Mahle barrels and pistons, custom profile camshaft, light and balanced bottom end as well as flowed and ported heads and carrillo rods.

The drive is generated to the rear wheels through a fully redesigned six-speed manual G50 gearbox from Porsche 993 model. The vehicle is lower in height compared to 964 RS with KW variant 3 dampers all around but the air-conditioning system and power steering unit is originally from the 964 model. The vehicle weighs 1248kg with a full tank fuel.

The interior design of the HK002 features Recaro front seats finished in Semi-Aniline Green leather with touches of yellow stripe and contrasting carbon compartments including the centre console which consists of carbon panels and is also wrapped in leather. The Nardi steering wheel was specifically stitched to match the interior by Nardi. Theon Design has also wrapped the fitted 964 RS strut-brace in woven leather.

Additional features and functions by Theon design on the HK002 include a reverse camera screen, hidden stereo unit and magnetic wireless charger. A modern cable operated heater is also available with an efficient heating and air conditioning unit as well. The prices for the commissions start at 300,000 pounds and the build takes approximately 18 months to finish.

Audi A6 e-tron concept: Full Electric Audi A6 Previewed in China

Audi unveiled a new full-electric Audi A6 e-tron concept at the Shanghai Auto show 2021. The Premium Platform Electric (PPE) will serve as a technology platform for electric vehicles, and is directly a preview to the upcoming full electric Audi A6 model.

The new Audi A6 e-tron concept fully relies on electric power and represents a completely new design concept. The only similarity the concept car has with the current A6 are the dimensions 4.96 metres long, 1.96 metre wide and 1.44 metres in height designed as a sportback.

The concept vehicle generates an output of 350kW and 800Nm of torque. Entry level models will be capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in 7 seconds or less whereas high-performance models will be able to sprint from 0-100km/h in under 4 seconds.

The A6 e-tron consists of an 800 volt charging technology that ensures the battery can be charged up to 270kW at any fast charging station in a very short time. Charging the battery to a level sufficient to power the car for 300km takes only 10 minutes and charging from 5% to 80% takes 25 minutes only.

The A6 e-tron concept features a cW value of 0.22 which is unmatched in the electrified C-segment and therefore means the car exhibits minimal aerodynamic drag that initially changes into lower energy consumption hence extends the range.

The vehicle appears monolithic when viewed from the side as if built from a single mould as a result of the absence of hard edges between convex and concave all around the body whereas the large 22 inches wheels and short overhangs, wide coupe roof arch and the flat cabin implicates the proportions of a sports car.

The exterior of the vehicle features flat headlight and taillights that adapt to weather, traffic, surrounding as well as communicate with other road users. The Digital LED and OLED offer maximum brightness and three high-resolution LED projectors that display warning symbols. The tail lights feature new three-dimensional OLED elements that make it possible to experience dynamic light show in 3D spatial effect.

In addition, the exterior also features quattro wheel arches connected by sculpted battery above the rocker panels, camera based exterior mirrors at the A-pillar base and large enclosed Single Frame grille fitted at the bottom to ensure optimal cooling for the drivetrain, battery and brakes of the vehicle. The car has been painted in ‘Heliosilver’ technoid color that accentuates the shape of the concept car with a three dimensional depth effect.

The Digital Matrix LED headlights achieve cinematic quality in a way that if the concept car is parked in front of a wall for a re-charge, the driver can pass the time by playing a video game projected onto the wall in XXL format instead of the small cockpit display. The players in the game can be positioned several metres next to or directly in front of the vehicle for a good view.

The PPE on the vehicle has been built exclusively for battery-electric drive systems, the future PPE models will include versions with a single electric motor that use electronic coordination to deliver AWD demand and improve the balance between driving dynamics and energy efficiency. The battery size and wheelbase of PPE cars are scalable therefore suitable for different market segments.

Audi A6 e-tron is suitable for use as a primary vehicle capable of everyday needs, short trips and even long trips depending on the drive system selected and the power output. The vehicle also features Audi air suspensions with adaptive dampers.

2021 Alpine A110 Colour Edition Review

Sports cars built with driving pleasure as their primary purpose are few and far between these days. Yes, there are super cars available in abundance, but sports cars without six-figure price tags are becoming rarer as business cases and the green revolution begin defining the industry. As a result, the world of enthusiasts was taken aback when Renault revived the name of a 70’s rally legend. The Alpine A110 was born again at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show and journalists from across the globe salivated. Why? Well, with an 1,110 kilogram kerb weight, the A110 was the lightweight sports cars we had all been waiting for.

Initial road tests hailed the Alpine as a car that redefined the sector. A couple of years later, I have the chance to see what all the fuss was about. I’ll be honest, the first impressions were not good. The Alpine wears no Renault badges, but when you get in the quality is what you would expect in a £20,000 Clio, not a halo product designed to rival a Porsche Cayman which is built to feel as good as a Panamera or 911. Some of the plastics are sub par, the infotainment screen escaped 2009 and some of the controls, such as the cruise control switch on arm rest, are frankly bizarre. The Recaro seats are brilliant but outclass the rest of the cabin – it really feels like a mix of many different automobiles.

As ever, I spent the first day with this press car doing what I do on my day-to-day routine, trundling around the city getting coffee and running errands. The A110 feels small on the road which is surprising and pleasing in equal measure at a time when a 992 911 occupies almost every millimetre of a European lane. Being the Colour Edition, the A110 I am driving features 4mm lower suspension and 50% stiffer spring and 100% stiffer anti-roll bars then the standard A110 and it did feel a touch too firm at low speeds on poor surfaces. As you may have gauged, I was not understanding what the allure of the little sports cars was. I was more annoyed that there was no cabin storage space (not even door bins), the infotainment was slow, laggy and was not intuitive, that the front boot was as deep as an over baking tray and that the rear boot would barely fit a thick coat let alone any substantial shopping. Being mid-engined, the boot gets very warm adding to the issues. The front truck release is in the passenger footwell and is a struggle to reach from the driving seat, this is borderline comical.

Day two is all about exploiting a cars dynamic capabilities, finally the Alpine A110 came into its comfort zone. Sport Mode engaged, the punchy little 4-cylinder becomes more vocal, the steering weights up and the car feels much more engaging. Hold down the wheel mounted Sport button and track mode is engaged, the entire dash layout changes to display a whole host of information from steering angle to g forces. The ESC is slackened and this is where this 288bhp pocket rocket starts to make sense. Lightness is the overriding sensation, as is feel through that fixed bucket seat. The Getrag DCT even starts to feel well suited to the engine as the shifts are quick and accompanied by giggle educing parps on shifts. With 320Nm to pelt such a light car down the road, the sensation is speed is entertaining.

There is a balance and connection that is encouraging and brings confidence to push harder and harder as the drive becomes all the more rewarding. The steering is quick, there is little feel but enough to understand where grip levels are. With the ESC in track, the rear end comes into play too. Remember the ride I complained about? Well, despite not having adaptive dampers, the ride becomes much more refined as the speeds build. The entire package comes together to result in one of the most satisfying and exiting cars I have driven in a long time with fabulous poise. The feeling of lightness will stay in my memory for a long time to come.

Yes, it may not be practical or cheap (£62,958 as tested) but it offers something no other car on sale today aside from a Lotus Elise can come close to matching. I tip my hat to Renault for being so dedicated in their pursuit of driver engagement. I hope that many people get behind the wheel of the A110 to understand what the engineers in Dieppe have managed to achieve, this car is magnificent.

Auto Shanghai 2021 Highlights: Motor Shows are Back!

China has managed to control the COVID-19 situation, and businesses seem to be getting back to normal with few or no lockdowns across the large Asian country. While global Motor Shows around the world were postponed to 2022, China’s own Auto Shanghai has recently opened it’s doors and will run from April 21st to 28th.

There are quite a few surprises presented at the event, with key focus on EVs and the ever growing large number of Chinese car makers. European car makers on the other hand are using the Auto Shanghai 2021 to showcase what their local partners have been up.

Here are the highlights:

Genesis X Concept

The future of Genesis design, spearheaded by the former head of design at Bentley. This is a futuristic GT that hints at design cues of future Genesis cars. It’s likely going to be a full EV if it ever makes it to production.

Audi A6 e-tron Concept

A look into the future full electric Audi A6. According to Audi, it is 95% of what the production car will look like. It’s powered by two electric motors producing a total of 469hp. Expect that number to go up when the RS version is revealed.

Zhiji IM Airo Concept

A concept car built from a collaboration between Alibaba, SAIC, and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech, aimed at urban transport and autonomous driving.

Nio ET7

Nio’s new flagship sedan, full electric and offered in various trims with different ranges. The most powerful version will produce 643hp and 850nm of torque. The range varies from 500km for the standard model to 1000km for the long range model.

Hycan

A joint venture between NIO and GAC formed in 2019 to create electric vehicles. Doesn’t sound like the Taycan at all.

Ford Evos

For the local Chinese market only, the new Ford Evos is built by Ford’s local partner Changan Automobile. It will be sold side to side with the Chinese spec Mach-E. It’s not an EV either, power comes from a 2.0L I4 turbo engine developing 245hp.

Lincoln-Zephyr

Another Chinese specific model made by an American car company. The sedan market in China is still booming, especially sedans with large leg room, that’s why Mercedes introduced a new C-Class LWB in China which looks like a mini S-class especially from inside. The Lincoln-Zephyr will likely be a full EV when it finally hits the market. The original “Zephyr” was made in the late 1930s and classified as a luxury car.

Lexus LF-Z

Lexus first concept to use an all new EV platform. With it, Lexus will launch the future electric vehicles using a series of new technologies. Direct4 is being marketed through the new LF-Z, an intelligent AWD system that switches between AWD, FWD and RWD appropriately. The LF-Z also seeks to revolutionize steer-by-wire technology by applying modern physics of driving.

Hengchi

One of the many upcoming EV car companies in China, Hengchi has a total of 9 models that includes SUVs, MPVs and sedans.

Audi RS e-tron GT

Asian debut for the Audi RS e-tron GT took place at the Auto Shanghai 2021. The car is identical to the Porsche Taycan in terms of technical components. The total output is 647hp and it can do 0-100km/h in just 3.3s.

Chery Antee X

Full EV sub-compact SUV from Chery.

Hongqi L concept

Very interesting concept car from China’s oldest car manufacturer Hongqi. The car has 3 seats, one at the front and two at the rear. There is a chandelier hanging from the roof and there is no steering wheel – a full autonomous vehicle.
