Today in Gear: An Oris Watch That Blends Aviation Style and Utility, a New Sling-Style Cooler & More

Today in Gear is our daily roundup of all the latest product announcements, drops and deals. Comments or concerns? We’d love to hear from you at tig@gearpatrol.com.

Oris has been making mechanical watches lauded by watch enthusiasts for the past 115 years. The brand is one of the last Swiss watch companies independently owned and operated, and all of its timepieces are made in Hölstein, Switzerland. Aviation has been a big part of Oris’ heritage all the while, making its first pilot’s watch in the early 1910s. The latest in that high flying tradition is the Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 114. This pilot’s timekeeper is also the first watch to carry the independent Swiss company’s in-house developed Calibre 114 movement, which features a ten-day power reserve, a non-linear power reserve indicator and a 24-hour second time zone. The Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 114 comes in a few different strap and bracelet options, so it will be simple to find the one that works best for you — even if you never step foot in a cockpit.

Tumi V3 International Carry-On Suitcase
Save 33%: Good luggage is worth investing in. Not only will it keep your possessions safe and secure, but it will also reduce stress while traveling (read: no more struggling with awkward bags). Take the Tumi V3 International Carry-On: It has an incredibly lightweight design with 360-degree swiveling wheels and an impact-resistant X-Brace 45 telescoping handle. Red Wing Engineer Boots
Save up to 49%: Minnesota-based bootmaker Red Wing has been making hardwearing footwear since 1905. The range of styles it produces are distinctly American: Moc-toe work boots with non-marking outsoles for factory workers, hefty oxfords designed for the postal service, pull-on roper boots appropriate for the ranch. It also makes a range of engineer boots which are now primarily sold in the Japanese and European markets.

Originally, engineer boots were designed to protect the feet of men who fed coals into steam engines. While engineer boots aren’t as prominent today as they once were, they’re no less rugged or functional. If you want to pick up a pair for yourself, head over to Nordstrom Rack, where a bunch of Red Wing engineer boots are half off right now. That means for as little as $170, you can add this well-worn style to your own wardrobe. — John Zientek

The North Face Anorak Sale
Save 24%: The virtues of a good anorak are often forgotten, but as soon as you slip into one that performs flawlessly, you can never go back to that flimsy full-zip. The North Face Fanorak Windbreaker is wind- and water-resistant, packable and lightweight. This jacket has kept me warm and dry through hiking trips to the White Mountains in New Hampshire, and exploring San Francisco in the summer. Right now, all colors of 90s-inspired Fanorak are 24 percent off at Backcountry. Some sizes are up to 41 percent off in limited colors, too. — Meg Lappe grey_placeholder

Bose QuietComfort 35 (Series I)
Save $150: The Bose QC35 IIs are the company’s flagship wireless ANC headphones. They’re comfortable, sound superb and offer, arguably, the best noise-canceling of any ANC headphones on the market. They’re also almost virtually identical to the company’s previous wireless ANC headphones, the Bose QC35 (Series I). The only real difference is the older QC35 headphones lack the QC 35’s “action” button, which is located on its left ear cup and used to initiate Google Assistant.

If you can survive without this, you can save $150 by buying the first-generation headphones — the Bose QC35 (Series I) — on eBay. They’re refurbished models, granted, but eBay has a pretty lenient return policy. Also, great noise-canceling headphones for under $200 is a rare deal. — Tucker Bowe

rOtring 800 Retractable Mechanical Pencil
Save $7: This thoroughly over-built mechanical writing implement that will likely outlast whatever life-ending apocalypse finally destroys humankind. Our robot overlords will be drawing razor-sharp graphite lines and jotting notes well into the next epoch. Meantime, allow yourself a modest splurge and enjoy the rOtring 800 Retractable Mechanical Pencil for $7 off to normal asking price. — Nick Caruso

Picky Oats Oatmeal Sale
Save 20%: Fueling up for the day can be tough. Riders and runners know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, which is why many athletes reach for oatmeal. Everyone from Tour de France Riders to ultrarunners to climbers to kayakers love oatmeal — and Picky Oats Performance Oatmeal is a top pick. The combination of fiber, protein and fat makes for a meal that’s slow to digest, meaning you stay fuller for longer — and more energized. Today, you can save 20 percent off Picky Oats tasty oatmeal on The Feed.

All three flavors: Game, Set, Matcha, How ‘Bout Dem Apples and Can’t Beet Chocolate are all on sale today in honor of the Tour de France. While the discount might not seem much, the more you add to your cart, the more you’ll save. Whether you’re gearing up to bike 100 miles this weekend or just trying to get through the day, Picky Oats is a satisfying and filling way to start. — Meg Lappe

Gerber Jukebox Pocket Knife
Save 23%: Of all the reasons to buy a knife — size, steel quality, price and the rest — looks, beauty, often rises to the top. And it should. It’s okay to be vain when purchasing a tool that you plan to carry daily, to match it to your watch or wallet or to go in the opposite direction with something bizarre and unconventional. Gerber’s folding Jukebox might fit into either of those categories, and despite that it just came out this summer, it’s already on sale for 23 percent off.

The Jukebox’s 2.7-inch blade, which Gerber designed as an homage to the straight razors used by barbers, is accompanied by a distinct acrylic resin handle that comes in either tortoiseshell or marble. It has an extended flipper tab that creates a unique opening action and an integrated liner lock to hold it closed. These features, along with its sheepsfoot blade, ensure that it remains highly functional despite its overt showiness. The Jukebox doesn’t just go with the keys in your pocket; pair it with a bottle of Old Forester, vintage Ray-Bans, a custom Fender guitar or an Indian motorcycle. — Tanner Bowden

Patagonia Black Hole Duffel Sale
Save 25%: If you’ve never heard of Patagonia’s Black Hole duffel bags, you’ve likely spotted one in an airport, foreign train station or strapped to the roof of an overlander. Patagonia built the weather-resistant and sturdy bags to last decades with a rugged TPU-laminated ripstop nylon. They also include removable backpack straps that make carrying one a breeze, even when it’s fully loaded.

The 60-liter version is arguably the most versatile size; it’s big enough to pack everything you’ll need for a weekend or a week, and it still fits into the overhead bins on planes. We’ve put this bag through its paces on all kinds of adventures, from a ski weekend in Vermont to a month-long trip to Ecuador. It’s one of the best rugged duffel bags available, and right now it’s also 25 percent off at Backcountry in nearly every volume.

And, if you need something even easier to carry than a backpack strap-equipped duffel, Patagonia thought to use its Black Hole construction to make a wheeled suitcase. It comes with a 70-liter capacity that you can pack to the brim without worrying whether you’ll be able to get all your gear from A to B. This bag is also 25 percent off. — Tanner Bowden

Today you can save up to 40 percent award-winning jackets. One of the best synthetic down jackets of 2019, the Arc’teryx Atom LT, is currently on sale at Backcountry in addition to a plethora of other technical winter coats. — Meg Lappe

Instant Pot Duo
Save $50: Prime Day may be over but Amazon is still running a ridiculous deal on the Instant Pot Duo, one of the best-selling items from the retailer’s two-day extravaganza earlier this week. Pick up the 6-quart size for just $50 — that’s half off.
Like more expensive models in the Instant Pot lineup — Ultra and Max models — the Duo can pressure cook, slow cook, steam and sautee. It doesn’t have an LCD display or a few more fringe preset cooking modes (sous vide), but the OG Instant Pot still boasts presets common foods like chili, yogurt, soup and so on. — Jack Seemer grey_placeholder

Klipsch Speakers
Save Up to 50% Off: Klipsch is currently having its huge annual “Christmas in July” sale and you can find many of the company’s best products — including bookshelf speakers, Bluetooth speakers, outdoor speakers and a trove of home theater systems — at deeply discounted rates. A lot of these discounted speakers are up to 50-percent off. Check out all the deals on the company’s website by clicking the link below. — Tucker Bowe

Black Diamond Spot Headlamp
Save $15: If there’s one camping accessory to buy for summer, it’s a headlamp. And Black Diamond’s Spot, which is currently only $25 at Amazon (a 37 percent discount) is better than a safe bet. It’s simple, but don’t take that to mean it’s basic. The Spot uses three AAA batteries, is fully waterproof, and features a main light with 300 lumens of brightness. According to Black Diamond, it can shoot a beam of light 80 meters (262 feet), but we’re more impressed by how easily you can swap between its various modes (beam, flood, strobe, red night vision) and how its brightness is adjustable as necessary.

Black Diamond recently updated the Spot — it’s smaller, brighter and has a second button — and the model that’s on sale is the older one. At $25 (for the black colorway; other hues are a bit more), it’s still an excellent deal on a headlamp that we’ve considered to be the best for years. But if you have to have what’s new, the updated version is only $11 more (you can buy it here). — Tanner Bowden

Seiko Silvertone Solar-Powered Watch
Save 63%: Though we tend to focus on its mechanical timepieces, Seiko’s quartz-powered watches are equally compelling and offer a good value proposition. The Silvertone is solar-powered quartz watch with a 43mm case, a day-date complication, a 12-month power reserve, a matching bracelet and 100m of water resistance. If you’re looking for an inexpensive everyday watch, the Silvertone is discounted 63% right now on Amazon, down to $92. — Oren Hartov grey_placeholder

Fender ’68 Reissue Guitar Amps
Save up to $156: Now at Guitar Center, you can save over $100 on a range of classic Fender guitar amps. The Silverface ’68 Custom reissue line — a Princeton, a Deluxe Reverb, a Vibrolux Reverb and a Twin Reverb — is currently discounted. These classic tube amps recreate styles from a transitional year in Fender’s amp production: the tones were classic Fender — warm and bell-like — but they were also noticeably dirtier than amps produced in the mid-‘60s. The amps also presented a new aesthetic with a silver-and-turquoise front panel and an aluminum grille-cloth trim. Rarely on sale, these amps have open-box discounts of up to $156 — hard to argue with that for brand-new gear. — John Zientek grey_placeholder

Red Wing Heritage Moc Toe Boots
Save 36%:When you’re presented with the chance to save on Red Wing Heritage boots, you’d be foolish to pass it up. The brand’s boots are rarely on sale and when they are, sizes are often limited. But now at Nordstrom Rack, you can save up to 36 percent on a pair of classic Red Wing Heritage Moc-Toe boots available in sizes 7 to 11. This American-made style features Brown Boomer leather from the S.B. Foot Tanning Company in Minnesota and a non-marking outsole. What are you waiting for? — John Zientek grey_placeholder

Seiko SNN241 Chronograph
Save 56%: This chrono features a larger 42.6mm steel case with a Japanese quartz movement powering two sub-dials — a 60-minute counter at 12 o’clock, and a running seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock, as well as a date window. The SNN241 has a brown dial with Hardlex crystal and a matching contrast-stiched brown leather band with double-locking clasp. It’s also water-resistant to 100m, so while it’s splash-proof, it’s best to switch to a trusty dive watch for serious water sports. — Oren Hartov

Schuberth ED1 ADV Motorcycle Helmet
Save 65%: Properly putting your big adventure bike to the test means racking up hundreds if not thousands of miles — both on the road and off. For those types of rides, you need equipment that will not only go the distance itself, but make it easier for you to go that far. And few helmets can outgun the Schuberth E1 in that territory.

By putting the engineers to work in the aeroacoustics lab, Schuberth created some of the quietest helmets on the road — and in the E1’s case, off the road as well. Wind noise and lift are at an all-time minimum, even with the E1’s articulating sun visor made for off-road riding. The E1 also comes with a built-in antenna — ready for Schuberth’s SRC-System, which doubles as a GPS, and has Bluetooth connectivity and an intercom for communicating with your buddies out on the road.

It’s one of the most technologically advanced and comfortable helmets on the road, and it usually goes for close to $900. But right now it’s selling for a whopping 65% off, at just $300 — Bryan Campbell

CRKT Swindle Pocket Knife
Save 34%: Deception lies at the core of CRKT’s aptly-named Swindle pocket knife. Closed, the Swindle appears to be a fairly-typical folder with a thumb stud opening. But the stud isn’t mounted to the knife’s spine; in fact, it isn’t part of the blade at all. The actual knife blade betrays conventional designs, deploying with a flipper tap from the other side to produce what CRKT describes as an “uphill curve.” The decoy stud isn’t just that either — that bit of protruding steel is an equally-unique, spring-assisted pocket clip that leaves the Swindle’s handle smooth.

Designed by revered knife maker Ken Onion, the Swindle won the award for “Most Innovative Imported Design” at the 2013 Blade Show and has continued in CRKT’s production line since. The blade is just over three inches and comes in two versions — one made of high-carbon steel, and a premium version with Sandvik stainless steel and a milled handle. The basic version is currently on sale at Amazon for 34 percent off. — Tanner Bowden

D’Angelico Premier Madison Acoustic Guitar
Save 44%: Founded in 1932, New York guitar maker D’Angelico made a name for itself producing some of the best archtop guitars in the world. John D’Angelico opened up a guitar shop in New York City’s Little Italy neighborhood where he built and sold handmade jazz guitars with designs informed by his experience as an apprentice to a violin builder. In 1952, he hired James D’Aquisto –another revered name in the jazz guitar community — as an apprentice and worked with him for 12 years, until D’Anglico’s sudden death in 1964. Since then, the company has gone through many changes, but its instruments still reflect the designs of the founder.

Today at Guitar Center, you can save 44 percent on a great affordable acoustic guitar from D’Angelico. The Premier Madison jumbo acoustic guitar has a solid Sitka spruce top, a laminated mahogany body, a slim C-shape mahogany neck and a bone saddle and nut. This guitar is designed for playability and features a single cutaway and side-mounted preamp with a 3-band EQ.

With the discount, this guitar is now just $280 — a ridiculously good price for a guitar with these features. If you’re a beginner looking for a great acoustic or a regular player looking for a performance-ready jumbo, this is worth checking out. Breville Barista Express
Save $120: Among Breville’s line of espresso makers, the Barista Express stands out — it features all the additive performance features of its higher-priced siblings, but it’s the only all-in-one maker that’s not $1,000 or more. It’s got a built-in grinder and dose control, plus it’s operable in automatic and manual modes. The machine also employs an impressive milk wand and comes with all the ancillary parts needed to make it all go (tamper, milk jug, razor trim and so on). — Will Price grey_placeholder

Jabra Elite 65e Noise-Canceling Headset
Save $170: The Jabra Elite 65e headset is arguably the best value proposition for anybody who wants in-ear headphones with active noise cancellation. Their nearest rival is the Bose QuietComfort 30, which costs $299, and that’s $99 more than the Jabra Elite 65e.

If you’re looking for a really sweet deal on in-ear noise-canceling headphones, you can buy a refurbished pair of Jabra Elite 65e on eBay for just $30. That’s a pretty steep discount. If you’re looking for a new pair, Amazon is discounting the Jabra Elite 65e for $159 right now. — Tucker Bowe

Ray-Ban Polarized Aviators
Save 25%: Since 1936, aviator sunglasses have protected the eyes of pilots across the world. The original Bausch and Lomb model was branded ‘Ray-Ban’ upon release to the public, and over the later half of the 20th century, it became a staple style for civilians. The design hasn’t changed that much and features convex tear-drop lenses and thin metal frames.

Now at Zappos, you can save 25 percent on a pair of classic Ray-Ban polarized aviators. According to California eyewear designer Dave Barton, these are worth the money. “One of the best values out there is a glass polarized Ray-Ban aviator,” he told us. “That’s a great quality lens and they’ve been doing it for years.” So act fast — these shades are now just $153. — John Zientek

One of the Quietest Motorcycle Helmets On the Market Is On Sale Today
Save 53%: Riding a motorcycle is a delight for the senses, but it can grow a little weary on the ears after a while. Between the roar of the wind rushing past and the drone of the engine, it doesn’t take long for the sounds of a ride to push into the irritation zone — or even start to cause causing hearing damage.
Of course, a good helmet can help offset those potentially-deafening noises. And right now, one of the quietest helmets on the market today—the Schuberth C4 Spark Helmet—is on sale for a massive 53 percent off at RevZilla. If you’ve been thinking about grabbing a new lid now that riding season has picked back up and you’re a fan of this German helmet’s style, there’s no reason to wait. — Will Sabel Courtney

Normally $310, these shades are now just $100 while supplies last. — John Zientek

Black Diamond Jetforce Tour Backpack Sale
Save $350: Backcountry skiers and boarders know they need to take extra safety precautions when heading out for a day on the mountain, and a backpack with an airbag is just the thing to use. The Black Diamond Jetforce Tour 26-liters features a lightweight electrical airbag that won’t act up in frigid temperatures, which is the last thing you want to happen when you’re in an emergency. The pack charges with a USB, so you won’t depend on batteries, but you can pack two AA ones as a backup.

The 26-liter pack will fit everything you need to be out all day long — from food to a neck warmer to more layers, plus a first aid kit and water. Easily access your shovel and probe, both stored in a separate pocket. If you have any mountain sports plans, this is the pack to pick up right now. — Meg Lappe

Fender Custom Shop NAMM Custom Built ’63 Journeyman Relic Jazzmaster Guitar
Save $186: Legendary guitar maker Fender is best known for its Stratocaster and Telecaster guitars, but the brand produces a number of other iconic models worth playing. One of these hidden gems is the Jazzmaster, a guitar with an offset body that initially debuted in 1958 and was later discontinued in 1980.

The guitar was re-released in ’84 from Fender’s Japanese factory (a ’62 reissue model) and then in ’99 as part of the American Vintage Series. Now, various iterations of the style are accessible across Fender’s range of guitars from affordable Squire instruments to collector-level Custom Shop guitars.

Currently, this Jazzmaster is reduced by almost $200 because it has an open box. Any discount on a mint-condition Custom Shop guitar is welcome, and it’s hard to argue with savings like this on such a detail-oriented axe. — John Zientek

The 2019 MacBook Pro
Save $100: The 13-inch MacBook Pro has been updated more considerably. First of all, it’s now impossible to buy a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with a row of function keys — everyone will now have a Touch Bar. Apple has given these MacBook Pros newer, better and faster Intel processors, as well as Touch ID so you can unlock them with just your finger. Just like the new MacBook Airs, these new 13-inch MacBook Pros will have newer updated keyboards. The price of the new MacBook Pro has been dropped by $100, too; they start at $1,299 (or $1,099 if you’re a college student) instead of the previous $1,399. — Tucker Bowe grey_placeholder

Engineered Garments x Uniqlo Polo Shirts
Save 33%: Uniqlo’s latest collaboration is with another Japanese brand that workwear aficionados might already be familiar with: Engineered Garments. The range currently consists of slouchy, oversized polo shirts that feature unconventional patterns and construction; some are made with patched panels, and several feature screen-printed patterns. And for those looking to play it safe(r) there’s a plain, standard polo — still distinctly belonging in this collection — available in three neutral colors. Coming from someone who’s tried them on, you’d be safe going down a full size if you want the great fabrics and construction with a slightly more conventional fit.

Engineered Garments items don’t typically come at a low price; a mesh polo from the brand currently retails for $236, and its outerwear can easily exceed the $400 mark. But because Uniqlo is Uniqlo, you can stock up for summer with these of-the-moment polo shirts for just $20. — John Zientek

Iconic Vans Sneakers
Save up to 48%: If you’re in need of some new sneakers for the warm-weather months, head over to Todd Snyder today. Right now, you can save up to 48 percent on a bunch of iconic styles from Vans. Choose from slip-on and lace-up styles in a range of colors — prices start at just $29. — John Zientek

Wüsthof Chef’s Knife
Save 46%: There are three types of chef’s knives.

First, there’s the value knife, typically made of hardwearing, easy-to-dull stainless steel, that goes for $30 to $45 (think Victorinox’s Fibrox knife). The second comes in just under $100; the steel here keeps an edge longer, but it isn’t forged and, thus, it’s susceptible to chipping. But you’ll typically have to spend upward of $150 for a forged chef’s knife, something like Wüsthof’s Classic 8-Inch Chef’s Knife — a wide bevel knife designed in a classically German style.

The Wüsthof Classic is made of a stainless steel composite containing more carbon than is normal for a stainless blade, granting it some of the attributes associated with carbon steel knives (like markedly easier sharpening).

Today on Ebay, you can get it for 46 percent off. That’s more than $60 cheaper than its listed price on Amazon. — Will Price

Kammok Bobcat Trail Quilt
Save 20%: The Bobcat looks like a sleeping bag that’s been given the blanket treatment — it’s rectangular with down-filled diamond baffles — but it hides an array of smart features that give it the extra functionality it needs to become a reliable piece of camping gear. For one, Kammok used top-notch Atmos 20D ripstop nylon and responsibly-sourced, water repellent down. It also has cinch cords at either end and snaps running down its sides so that it can effectively close up like a sleeping bag if that’s the way you want to use it. It also comes with straps that link it to your sleeping pad so it won’t fall off in the middle of the night and a conversion kit that turns it into an underquilt for sleeping in a hammock. These attributes make the Bobcat ideal for backpacking and camping, but even if you have no use for them the quilt is still a warm and light solution for the home or the camper.

The Bobcat is rated for comfortable use down to 45 degrees Fahrenheit, weighs 19 ounces and packs down to the size of a football. Kammok initially launched the quilt on Kickstarter, where it earned over $265,000 (of a $50,000 goal). Right now, you can pick up the trail quilt at Huckberry for 20 percent off. — Tanner Bowden

Free Fly Hydro Short Sale
Save 30%: If you pack a pair of Free Fly’s Hydro shorts in your weekender, it’s all you’ll need for beach and lake vacations. Surf, swim and cannonball without tugging at the waistband of these flexible shorts. Thanks to the UPF 50+ rating, these work wonders for any lazy river excursions. When you’re ready to hang up your shorts, you’ll be thankful for the quick-drying bamboo fabric. Skip the washer and don’t bother worrying about any smell issues — the bamboo charcoal is naturally antibacterial and odor-resistant. Pick up a pair today for $20 off in a couple of colors. — Meg Lappe grey_placeholder

The 2019 MacBook Air
Save $100: The new MacBook Air now has True Tone display technology, which allows it to automatically brighten or dim depending on the ambient light in the room; this is designed to help colors look more natural, but it’s also a feature that can be turned off, of course. The price of the new MacBook Air has been dropped by $100, too, meaning it now starts at just $1,099 (or $999 if you’re a college student). It should also be noted that the new MacBook Air will have redesigned keyboards, which Apple introduced this past May. — Tucker Bowe

Oris made its first diver in 1965 — now it is ready for a revival. Diving into its design vault, Oris has come up with the Diver Sixty-Five, a fresh spin on the watch that started it all. The new Oris Sixty-Five has many of the original details that can be found on the original, but it has been brought up to date with 21st-century watchmaking techniques such as an anti-corrosive stainless steel case. The vintage-inspired bubble-curved glass face is also made from scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass and comes with anti-reflective coating to help you see the dial underwater. The bronze and steel bi-color is a new addition as well, giving the Sixty-Five a distinct look, while still being faithful to the rugged and industrial history.

Weber Rapidfire Charcoal Starter
Save 24%: The biggest pain point in charcoal grilling happens before the food is out of the fridge. Properly lighting charcoal has always been a contentious, frustrating and tedious subject. The cover-it-in-lighter-fluid approach can be fast, but imparts chemical flavors onto food, and you can only burn so many napkins before giving up.

The fastest way to light coals naturally is a charcoal chimney, and Weber’s already-affordable option is on sale today. Place the chimney on the grates of your grill, fill it with charcoal and light a wad of newspaper underneath. Once your coals start to turn gray (usually about 20 minutes), dump them in the base of the grill and you’re ready to cook. The Weber chimney is a little more than 25 percent off today on Amazon. — Will Price

Evergoods CTB 40 Travel Backpack
Save $74: Rollaboard luggage has recently met its successor as carry-on king in the travel backpack. We’re don’t mean hiking backpacks or duffels with backpack straps; we’re talking about a new breed of bags that are a hybrid of the lot. Typically, they open on a hinge like a hardshell suitcase, are as spacious as duffels and, like backpacks, use a supportive shoulder strap system (that usually tucks away when unneeded) and have lots of internal organization. One of our favorites of this new class of bags is Evergoods’s CTB40, which is $74 off today. — Tanner Bowden

Cotopaxi Fuego Lt Down Jacket
Save $115: It might seem imprudent, foolhardy or even irresponsible to buy a down jacket in the midst of a steamy summer — your cash is better spent on a bathing suit or a new hiking pack, right? Most will agree here, and both brands and retailers respond with discounts to move their insulating layers off the shelves. Cotopaxi is doing just that; its lightweight Fuego Down Jacket is currently 50 percent off, and lots of other items like windbreakers and fleeces are discounted, too. As far as down jackets go, the Fuego is already notably affordable at its regular price of $230, but at $115, it’s the cheapest you’re likely to see a coat of this quality. For those with an adequate balance of foresight and patience, this deal is one not to miss. Plus, there are plenty of uses for down jackets in the summer too: hikes to higher elevations, chilly mornings and evenings and trips to the Southern Hemisphere are just a few. — Tanner Bowden grey_placeholder

Ray-Ban Wayfarer Sunglasses
Save 55%: In the world of sunglasses, it doesn’t get much more iconic than a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers. First released in 1956, the design has hardly changed in over half a century. If you’ve been wanting the style, but the list price is more than you want to spend, Nordstrom Rack has you covered; you can get a pair of $178 Wayfarers in either black or Havana for just $80. What’s more, these Italian-made shades also come with polarized lenses to protect your eyes all summer long — hard to beat that. — John Zientek

Houzz Outdoor Furniture
Save Up to 80%: If you’re smart enough to be living in a place with a patio and unprepared enough to not have outfitted said patio, this is for you. Houzz is marking down hundreds of chairs, umbrellas, rugs, fire pits, light fixtures, tables, planters and more during its July 4th sale. All are marked down 20 to 80 percent off listed prices, and all will remain discounted for the next four days.

The site is running similarly huge sales across other categories, too. Sort through them here. — Will Price

Wardrobe Essentials from Outerknwon
Save 20%: California based clothing brand Outerknown started business four years ago today. To celebrate the anniversary, the brand is offering 20 percent off purchases with the code YEAR4. It’s a great chance to stock up on well-made wardrobe essentials like tees, jeans, shorts and more. So give your summer wardrobe a refresh, but act quickly — this sale is today only. — John Zientek grey_placeholder

Seiko Prospex Special Edition Dive Watch
Save 36%: Macy’s is running deals on several great Seiko watches right now, including this badass looking black and blue Prospex special edition with a 44mm steel case and automatic movement. It’s also got a screw-down crown, unidirectional dive bezel, 200m of water resistance and a blue silicone dive strap, all for just $336 in celebration of July 4th. (Use code “FOURTH” at checkout.) — Oren Hartov

Massive Summer Sale on Motorcycle Gear
Save Up to 55%: The weather is warm, and grills are lighting up backyards and parks everywhere. Summer is here, and with it the temptation to hop on our bikes with minimal gear. As much as the summer season makes it easy to forget our riding gear, the Revzilla Summer Sale is doing a great job of reminding us to equip ourselves properly.

To help you keep yourself safe, stylish, and heavy in the pockets this summer, we’ve picked out a few of our favorite items currently on sale at Revzilla as part of their summer spectacular. The bike gear site is offering jackets, helmets, apparel, luggage and much more at price cuts up to 55%. Many of these items are only on sale until July 14th, though, so don’t wait too long to snap up the gear you want. — Peter Corn

Levi’s Jeans, Jackets, Tees and More
Save an Extra 40%: Right now, Levi’s is offering a pretty big deal: special sale items are an extra 40 percent off. When I saw the news, I thought it’d be a dozen dismal leftovers, but hundreds of jeans, shirts, jackets and other great wardrobe staples are all up for grabs. Click through and use code EXTRA40 at checkout, then tell a friend. — Nick Caruso grey_placeholder

Backcountry Outdoor Gear and Apparel
Save up to 80%: We’re not going to waste any time here because, honestly, we’re not sure how long this sale will last: Backcountry is discounting its in-house outdoor gear, much of it designed in collaboration with brands like Black Diamond and FlyLow, for up to 80 percent off. To put that into context, that means that you can get a $130 backpack (one of our favorites) for $26, or a $30 sweat-wicking t-shirt for $6, or a $140 rugged duffel for $35. There’s more too; mountain biking apparel, fleeces, rain jackets included. — Tanner Bowden grey_placeholder

BeatsX In-Earheadphones
Save $40: The BeatsX in-ear headphones were released in early 2017 and they were significant at the time because they were the first wireless headphones — bar AirPads — to feature Apple’s W1 chip, which allowed them to pair with any iPhone. They were also sweat resistant, which AirPods weren’t (and still aren’t), so it was much safer to run or workout them. Apple has lowered the price of the BeatsX to $100 (they were $150 at launch), which is a pretty good deal for wireless sport headphones as it is. And while you can still get them for $100 on Apple’s website, there are ways of getting an even better deal. For example, eBay is selling new BeatsX models for just $60. And you can get them in a variety of colors. — Tucker Bowe grey_placeholder

Google Smart Speakers
Save Up to $50: The title says it all: Almost every one of Google’s smart speakers is on sale right now. That includes the recently released Nest Hub ($129 $79), which also makes for a great smart alarm clock. If you’re looking for a dedicated speaker, you can find deals on the Google Home Max, Google Home and Google Home Mini, too, all on the Google Store website. The only thing that’s not on sale is the Nest Home Max ($229), the company’s largest smart display. — Tucker Bowe

Weber Spirit Gas Grills
Save $51: Weber’s charcoal grills are loved because they’re simple, made with quality materials and last forever. Though significantly less iconic, its gas grills are a slightly higher-tech extension of this.

The Spirit line is the company’s lowest-end model, but it’s no exception. Instead of flimsy, low-gauge stainless steel components, the Spirit line is outfitted with a cast aluminum interior, enameled cast-iron grill grates and an easy-to-clean drip tray. Spirit grills also have a category-leading 10-year warranty on all parts and pieces. Today on Amazon, the Spirit II (two-burner model) and Spirit III (three-burner model) are both marked down $51. Happy Fourth. — Will Price

Guitars, Amps and More at Guitar Center
Save up to 30%: To celebrate 4th of July, Guitar Center is offering up to 30 percent off on a ton of guitars, amps and accessories. Choose from brands like Fender, Martin and Gretsch, but act fast — this deal ends soon.

If you’re in the market for a new Fender, you can save $100 on a black Special Edition Standard Strat. The alder-body guitar has a Modern ‘C’ neck profile, a maple fretboard, a Fender Synchronized Tremolo and aged-white knobs. Or if you’re a Tele lover, pick up a Special Edition Standard Tele loaded with a pair of humbucking pickups for $100 off. For fans of offset guitars, a Special Edition Standard Jaguar is also on sale. But if you’ve been searching for a great acoustic, you can save $100 on an entry-level X Series Custom X1-000E guitar. For the biggest savings, check out the D-28 Special VTS Dreadnought. It is currently discounted $1,170 and costs $2,699. A vintage-inspired instrument designed to replicate the sound of Golden Era ‘30s Martins, this guitar features a Solid Sitka spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, a mahogany neck, an ebony fingerboard, Gotoh tuners and a bone saddle and neck. — John Zientek

Julbo Vermont Classic Sunglasses
Save $61: Mountain-inspired sunglasses with shields on the temples and bridge are common today — you can get a pair for $89 from Sunski or for more than $500 from Vuarnet — but in 1950, when the French company Julbo released its Vermont glacier glasses, they were cutting-edge. Julbo aimed to provide mountain climbers with sufficient protection against the intense light in the high snowy and icy environments (UV rays bounce off these reflective surfaces and cause snow blindness).

Seven decades later, Julbo maintains that intention, and while it now uses polycarbonates and wrap-around designs to make lightweight sunglasses for use at high altitudes, the Vermont continues to justify itself in function and, with its iconic mountain aesthetic, style too. Julbo recently re-released the sunglasses, which are now dubbed the Vermont Classic, and right now they’re on sale at Drop for $61 off. — Tanner Bowden

Otterbox Elevation 64 Growler
Save 30%: We talk a lot about the importance of staying hydrated, and it is critical, especially during hot, humid summer days. However, some liquid storage products are ideal for carrying other types of beverages, too. Consider the growler, the ultimate vessel for toting one of man’s greatest inventions: beer.

Many breweries offer the opportunity to take home samples not just in bottles and cans, but in 64 oz. growler form. And they’ll gladly fill yours up if you bring your own. That’s four true pints, more than enough to socialize with, that’ll stay cold for days in the right unit. Our current fave: Otterbox’s Elevation 64, currently on sale for $49, 30 percent off its $70 retail price.

Right now you can score this stainless steel deal as well as 20 to 30 percent off select models of the Elevation 10-, 16-, 20- and 28-oz. tumblers. Click around for the discounts and remember to, ahem, stay hydrated. — Steve Mazzucchi

Vizio 2019 4K TVs
Save up to $500: Vizio is discounting most of its 2019 4K smart TVs for the 4th of July, including its P-Series Quantum X, the company’s best and brightest 4K TV ever. Since Vizio makes what are arguably the best affordable 4K TVs you can buy, the fact that its new TVs (which were just released in the last few months) are already on sale — that’s pretty exciting. In addition to deals on the P-Series Quantum X, Vizio is also discounting its other high-end and midrange lines of P-Series Quantum and M-Series Quantum, respectively. — Tucker Bowe

Dainese Harrison Leather Jacket
Save 40%: Generally speaking, fashion-forward motorcycle jackets tend to be fairly useless against the elements, and they generally don’t offer much in the way of real protection against skids and spills. That’s where the Dainese Harrison leather jacket breaks from the mold, however. Its stylish four-pocket design and hand-dyed leather outer construction offer the look of a stereotypical all-form-no-function jacket, but hidden underneath the shoulders and elbows lies functional Pro-Shape Armor. There’s even a pocket in the back to accommodate a Dainese back protector. In addition to protection from impacts, the Harrison jacket also comes with a quilted thermal liner to keep out the wind chill when cruising down the road.
This is one of Dainese’s top-tier jackets, normally retailing for $800 — so being able to buy it for $320 cheaper than that price, as you can right now at Revzilla, pretty much counts on a steal. — Bryan Campbell

Red Wing Pecos Boots
Save 44%: Red Wing made a name for itself building work boots for farmers and factory employees in the Upper Midwest, but the company also had an office in Dallas that opened in the early 1920s. To serve the Texas market — where men preferred pull-on riding boots — Red Wing developed its own version of this style in the ’30s. By the ’50s, it had refined the style and given it the name of a small Texas town: Pecos. And while the boots were developed in the rugged West, they quickly became a favorite across the country due to their simple silhouette, comfortable fit and field-tested durability.

Now at Nordstrom Rack, you can save 44 percent on a pair of iconic Red Wing Pecos boots. The pull-on style is modeled on a roper boot with a shorter heel, designed to handle a day of walking. Available in both Sand and Olive rough-out leather, the hard-wearing style will serve you for years to come — and now it costs as little as $180. — John Zientek

Case Knives Mini Trapper Pocket Knife
Save 36%: It might be hard to imagine that a small, simple pocket knife like Case’s Mini Trapper could be collectible — especially when you can find other similar blades adorned with gems and bone — but it’s true. That’s thanks to Case Knives’s century-plus long history of crafting in the United States, as well as its orderly system of stamping each of its knives with a logo accompanied by small dots and Xs that denote the year in which it was produced. It’s a subtle detail that adds an element of time to a favorite blade and, for those with a mind to collect, a way to tell the difference between two knives born decades apart.

Just starting your Case Knives collection? The Mini Trapper, a model that’s characterized by two blades that are both under three inches in length, one a clip point and the other a spey point, is on sale at Huckberry with a synthetic yellow handle for 36 percent off, which brings it down to just $32. — Tanner Bowden

Cheap Patio Furniture
Save Up to 50%: Now that summer is upon us, back porches and patios are at a premium. Anyone whose residence possesses either is instantly a meeting ground for friends and family. Thus, if you have one but don’t have the seating to accommodate, you’re SOL. And that’s exactly what this very summer Ebay sale for. In it, you’ll find a multitude of already-cheap outdoor furniture discounted from 20 to 50 percent. And, as with all Ebay sales, there’s a lot to sift through (some $58 Adirondack chairs are a good place to start). If you’re in need of seating, tables, hammocks and fire pits on the cheap, you could do much worse. — Will Price grey_placeholder

Fender Guitars
Save up to 30%: Now through July 4th, you can save up to 30 percent on a bunch of Fender guitars at Guitar Center. For the 4th of July Sale, the retailer discounted some iconic guitars including Stratocasters, Telecasters, Jaguars and more. If you’ve been waiting to pick up an affordable axe with player-focused features, this is your chance.

Save $100 on a black Special Edition Standard Strat. For fans of offset guitars, a Special Edition Standard Jaguar is also on sale; The instrument comes in a Surf Pearl finish (an homage to the Jaguar’s early days) and has an alder body, a 22-fret maple neck and a Pau Ferro fingerboard. — John Zientek

Everything You Need for More Comfortable Camping Is on Sale Right Now

Sonos Playbar
Save $150: Sonos is selling refurbished models of its Playbar, the company’s biggest and best-sounding soundbar, for $150 off. The normally $699 soundbar can be bought for $549 right now on Sonos’s website. — Tucker Bowe grey_placeholder

Normally $100, you can snag one from Best Buy or Amazon in a variety of different colors for just $80. It’s a pretty good deal considering the fact that some publications, such as 9to5Toys, have called the Wonderboom 2 “this summer’s best Bluetooth speaker.” — Tucker Bowe | grey_placeholder

The 10 Brilliant Products GP Readers Bought This Month

Summer is finally (officially) here. June is the time to gear up for summer, and GP readers went all out by outfitting their backyards with patio furniture and grills. We also launched our newest issue of Gear Patrol Magazine in June. While we gear up for Fourth of July and Amazon Prime Day next month, here’s a list of the 10 products GP readers bought the most in June. Check out the full list below.

Gear Patrol Magazine Issue 10

“We’re proud to present The Innovation Issue. In this, our 10th magazine, we dive deep into innovation in all of its forms.” — Gear Patrol

CRKT CEO EDC Folding Pocket Knife

“As its name suggests, the CEO is a gentleman’s pocket knife. CRKT made it long and slender so that, like a pen, it’ll fit comfortably in a pocket next to a wallet or phone and not draw too much attention to itself either. ” — Tanner Bowden

Weber Master-Touch 22″ Charcoal Grill

“The Weber Kettle charcoal grill — complete with dome lid, ventilation, enameled steel and rust-resistant aluminum — is the most stable, consistent grill money can buy.” — Will Price

Reebok Crossfit Nano 9

“You’ll find a CrossFit specific outsole design with MetaSplit grooves for better traction and grip. A wider-than-average toe box gives your feet room to breathe and enough toe spread for improved balance and a stronger base to push off. The unchanged minimal drop outsole keeps you close to the ground.” — Meg Lappe

Tecnica Forge GTX Hiking Boots

“Every piece of the Forge is designed for customization, most notably the upper, which is available in both synthetic ripstop and nubuck leather. In addition, Tecnica equipped the Forge with all the indications of a solid hiking boot, including a Gore-Tex liner and Vibram rubber sole. For its first foray into a new category, Tecnica hit the mark.” — Tanner Bowden

Motorcycle Helmets

“You can save up to $700 on select top-tier motorcycle helmets from brands like AGV, Bell and Schuberth. If you’ve always wanted the performance and protection from one of the best motorcycle helmets available (and really, why wouldn’t you want that?), now’s your chance to save a few hundred dollars and upgrade your lid game.” — Bryan Campbell

TRX Original – Strong System

“A good home gym doesn’t have to entail heavy and bulky — not to mention expensive — equipment. In fact, it can be portable, something you can carry on an airplane and set up in a hotel room when on the road. Such a notion has been borne out by TRX, a fitness company that began with an ingenious suspension training system designed by a Navy SEAL.” — Tanner Bowden

Texas Elite 34 Wood Pellet Grill & Smoker

“For those unfamiliar with wood pellet grilling, they work by way of an auger pushing tiny hardwood pellets into flames based on temperature readings from an internal computer. You set the temperature you want to cook at — about 150 to 400 in this case — and it does the fire tending for you.” — Will Price

Patagonia Synchilla Snap-T Fleece Pullover

“The Patagonia Synchilla Snap-T fleece pullover is a staple in every man’s closet. Everyone from backpackers to dads, hikers to college students and even Coachella attendees to urbanites have made the style work for them.” — Tanner Bowden

Fender Special Edition Standard Jaguar Guitar

“One of Fender’s lesser-known styles is the Jaguar, an instrument with an offset body, originally produced between 1962 and 1975. During that time, it was popular with surf rock guitarists, but after it went out of production, it became an onstage staple at punk, alternative and indie shows. During the ’80s, Fender produced a Japanese-made version of the instrument, and in ’99, due to the Jaguar’s underground popularity, the brand began producing the style again in earnest.” — John Zientek

Today In Gear: Seiko’s Special Edition Diver Radiates Summer Vibes, Everlane Made Better Shorts & More

Today in Gear is our daily roundup of all the latest product announcements, drops and deals. Comments or concerns? We’d love to hear from you at tig@gearpatrol.com.

Seiko’s Prospex Special Edition Diver might be the watch of the summer. With all the bits you’ll anticipate from Seiko — who could resist that grey and blue rotating bezel and the iconic case design — this special edition timepiece is rugged and echoes the ocean with a blue wave pattern dial and a second hand designed to recall a Great White sharkfin. For reliable time keeping in rough waters, the 24-jewel automatic movement beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and it’s water-resistant down to 200 meters. This watch also comes with some credentials, meeting the ISO standards for scuba diving and it is also part of Seiko’s partnership with PADI. This stainless steel 45mm diver delivers precision and dependability when it truly counts — and will look great on your wrist in or out of the water.

Belstaff Classic Tourist Trophy Jacket
Save 20%: It’s not easy to earn a reputation for rugged reliability in the world of motorcycle gear, but Belstaff has been at it for nearly 100 years. As it’s risen to prominence in recent years, Belstaff has entrenched itself in the luxury performance apparel space; as a result, price tags tend to be high across the brand. Today, however, the Classic Tourist Trophy Jacket — one of Belstaff’s most iconic designs — is 20% off at RevZilla, currently selling for just $1,160. — Bryan Campbell

Italian-Made Saint Laurent Sunglasses
Save 66%: Dominated by the same aviator- and Wayfarer-inspired designs, the sunglasses market can seem a bit uninspired at times. If you’ve been yearning for a frame that breaks from the status quo, consider a style from Saint Laurent. The Parisian fashion house offers a range of distinct sunglasses, all crafted in Italy. From a combination acetate-metal Clubmaster style to a chunky Havana-acetate square silhouette, these well-made shades are anything but bland. And now at Nordstrom Rack, some of these sunglasses are up to 66 percent off while supplies last — that’s savings of $230. — John Zientek

Camping Essentials Sale
Save 25%: While Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start of summer, Fourth of July is a good reminder that camping season is here in full force. There’s a good chance that you’re dusting off the gear bins for the first time since last fall to find that some items aren’t as pristine as you thought you’d left them and that those gaps in your camping kit remain unfilled. Now is the time to make amends. It’s the perfect time to take advantage of Fourth of July sales at retailers like REI, Backcountry and Huckberry to ensure that you’re well prepared for summer. Here are six things to get you started. — Meg Lappe

— John Zientek

Black Hole Recycled 30-Liter Laptop Backpack
Save 30%: Of the well-loved products that Patagonia has created over the years — from ultralight synthetic insulation jackets to iconic fleeces — the Black Hole duffel is one that has weathered the years. The utilitarian gear hauler is made rugged enough to handle the rigors of weeks-long field expeditions yet practical enough that its features aren’t lost on casual travelers. (The 60-liter version is perfect for carry-on-only trips.) Similar to the duffel, the Black Hole Pack uses a wide opening to access its main compartment, which has a sleeve for a laptop or a hydration reservoir as well as smaller pockets for essential items. Unhindered by other unnecessary features, the bag is left to do what it should: provide ample space for whatever it is you might need to carry. Right now the Black Hole Pack is available for 30 percent off at Nordstrom. — Tanner Bowden grey_placeholder

Naim Audio Mu-so Qb
Save $200: You can think of the Mu-so Qb as the perfect Sonos upgrade. It delivers rich audio in a super attractive and compact body; its main feature is, of course, a super huge volume dial that lights up like a halo and has great “knob feel.” Normally $699, the speaker is on sale right now for less than $500 on World Wide Stereo’s website. Just type in the promo code FIREWORK at checkout. — Tucker Bowe
