Others Follow Pebble Beach Concours’ Cancellation

Until yesterday, organisers of Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance were hoping that the 2020 instalment would go ahead. The recent Covid-19 outbreak has caused an entire year of cancelled automotive events, however, it was hoped that Pebble Beach might go ahead given its August timetabling.

Yesterday, organisers confirmed that the event will not go ahead this year. While the event is effectively cancelled, organisers have confirmed that 2021’s event will run the schedule planned for 2020. This is because the car selection process for this year’s 70th Pebble Beach Concours was complete earlier this month. Acceptance letters have already been sent and invitations sent for the 70th-anniversary event. Because of this, we now know what to expect for 2021.

The 2021 event will feature a display of past Best of Show winners along the edge of Stillwater Cove, and special classes honouring Pininfarina coachwork, the Porsche 917, the Talbot-Lago Grand Sport, Miller racing, Iso, Early Electrics and the Carrera Panamericana.

After the Pebble Beach announcement, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering announced that it would cancel too. It too has taken the approach of postponing its planned event until 2021.

Bonhams has confirmed that it will push ahead with its auction plans, likely holding an event somewhere in the state of California. Gooding and Company has chosen to postpone its Pebble Beach auction to next year alongside the Concours. The RM Sotheby’s auction has been cancelled, as has the Mecum and Russo & Steele events.

The only Monterey Car Week events that remain in the calenders are the Monterey Pre-Reunion and Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca.

RM Sotheby’s List McLaren F1 ‘LM-Specification’ For Sale

The McLaren F1 is an incredibly rare car. Just 106 were produced, 64 of which were designated as road cars. If you know anything about the road cars, you will know that the most sought-after are the limited edition F1 LM models. McLaren produced just 5, 3 of which went to the Sultan of Brunei (disappearing from public view).

Such was the demand for these cars that once the original production run was complete, McLaren upgraded two “standard” F1 road cars to LM specifications. Both cars received modifications in excess of the optional High Downforce Kit. The package consisted of a large rear wing, enlarged front splitter and louvres on the front clamshell.

The real highlight is the engine. Rebuilt to LM spec from the original engine, it revs 1,000 rpm higher than the standard V12 and develops 680bhp.

The example that RM Sotheby’s plans to sell currently belongs to New Zealand-based collector Andrew Bagnall. It is chassis number 018. It is regularly used, displaying 21,500 km on the clock.

RM Sotheby’s also sold the other uprated LM car, 073, back in 2015. Part of the Pinnacle Portfolio, it hammered at a price of $13,750,000. 018 has a $21,000,000 – $23,000,000 estimate. Whether it is able to reach those dizzy heights is a different question! Imagine if an original McLaren F1 LM hit the market…

Mustang with Lamborghini V10 Engine and Interior to be Auctioned

Auctioneers, Barrett Jackson recently listed a novelty lot for its Scottsdale 2019 auction. Originally a show car, built for the SEMA show, this Ford Mustang has a massive Lamborghini-shaped twist.

If the name doesn’t give it away (Tractorri) the twist is that this Ford Mustang sits on the running gear of a Lamborghini Gallardo! It is believed to be the only conversion of its type, taking the 5.2 litre V10 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission from the Italian supercar.

Evidently, a huge amount of work has gone into engineering this one-off supercar. Barrett Jackson mention figures in the region of $700,000 which presumably covers the cost of both Ford and Lamborghini donor cars. What’s more, it appears as though it has actually been used, although not extensively. The odometer shows 2,564 actual miles.

The name Tractorri is a supposed tribute to Ferrucio Lamborghini’s humble beginnings, building tractors for agriculture.

The Tractorri features completely custom bodywork with a unique front end, Porsche 911 Turbo turn signals, steel fender flares and factory Lamborghini taillights. Inside, the dashboard has been custom chopped to fit something virtually identical to the Lamborghini Gallardo. Normally we are sceptical about these sorts of projects, this one actually looks well executed.

It is being sold with no reserve. No price estimate has been given but we suspect that it will fall short of recovering the $700,000 build cost. If you are looking for something unique though, you need look no further!

2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition 001 to be Auctioned for Charity

Ford confirmed earlier this week that it would donate a 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition for auction with the proceeds of the sale going to the charity United Way for Southeastern Michigan. The car will be auctioned by Barrett-Jackson at their Scottsdale Auction on 19 January 2019.

The proceeds of the sale will benefit the charity United Way which is based in Southeastern Michigan. The charity aims to discuss the challenges that face the local communities, raise awareness and make change.

Ford have experienced massive demand for their latest Ford GT. Unlike its predecessor, which sold 4,038 copies, Ford have limited production of the new Ford GT to just 1,350 cars. These cars were sold with a two year sales restriction which means very few have hit the market, the ones that have command a sale price well in excess of the sticker price.

The version Ford have donated for the sale bears chassis number 001. It is finished in the same famous baby-blue-and-orange scheme as the Gulf liveried car that took down the dominant Ferrari 50 years ago. Ford fans will recall that GT40 chassis number 1075, which wore the Gulf livery, won the Le Mans 24 Hour race in 1968 and 1969.

Barrett-Jackson will sell a huge number of vehicles in Scottsdale. The advance preview suggests that the 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition will be joined by at least three other 2006 Ford GT Heritage Editions, meaning you could start your own Gulf liveried collection from this auction alone.

If Amercian supercars are not quite your thing, fear not! Barrett-Jackson will also offer a number of other collectors cars that might peak your interest. A 2012 Lexus LFA Nurburging Edition has been announced together with one of 10 2012 MacLaren MP4-12C High Sport finished in Vodafone Racing Team colors.

The 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition is expect to achieve a massive hammer price. Mecum Auctions recently sold chassis number 077 for a staggering $1,320,000. Earlier in the year, chassis number 48 also achieved $1,815,000. Barrett-Jackson sold another Ford GT at its 2018 Scottsdale auction, on that occasion, the hammer dropped at $2,550,000. Could this example break the magic $2,000,000 mark?
