Watch First flight of Airbus’ BelugaXL

Aeroplanes nowadays can be used to carry just about anything from people and animals to vehicles and other large items. Given the prefabricated nature of modern aviation design though, it begs the question – what ferries and transports plane parts around?

The answer? Really really big planes. Yes, grammar Nazis, the extra really was necessary. Now that we have cleared that up, let’s talk about the Airbus BelugaXL..

As a direct replacement for the company’s current airlifter, the BelugaST, Airbus have unveiled the BelugaXL and it has taken its maiden voyage.

For a plane that has a length of 63.1 meters and a height of 18.9 meters, it offers 30% more storage space than the BelugaST. It has been designed to cope with, despite its monstrous size, 6.5 million km of travel every year, which works out at around 7 round trips to the moon and back!

With a stylish exterior design in keeping with its name, it has a friendly Beluga whale’s face that is sure to bring a smile to anyone who sees it when it is en-route as part of its busy work life in the future.

The numbers are staggering even if you aren’t particularly interested in aviation, but have a keen interest in oversized technological and engineering advancements.
