Arquus Scarabee

It should be obvious by now that we love rides that come with heavy armor. It might seem overboard for some, but it’s better to be safe than sorry as they say. So let’s get down to business and welcome another mechanical monster that’s heading our way. One look at the Arquus Scarabee and its love at first sight.

This 4×4 looks ready to ram through anything that stands in its way. It’s clear from the military-inspired aesthetics that this vehicle feels right at home on the battlefield. Hence, let’s dive in and find out what it brings to the table.

It’s hard to believe that this menacing machine comes from Volvo. On the other hand, if we think about it, the Swedish carmaker is known for building some of the safest cars in the market. Therefore, riding inside fully-armored behemoth is like being protected by a mobile bunker.

Arquus is a sub-brand that deals primarily with military-grade production. As such, the Scarabee is not exactly a 4×4 that will be hitting showrooms anytime soon. Nevertheless, we can always hope that enough demand will have them craft a consumer-tier model in the future.

Powering this beast is a hybrid system that allows it to toggle between two drive modes. By default, the Arquus Scarabee uses its gas and electric powertrain at the same time. However, it can quickly switch over to all-electric for near-silent operation during missions. Meanwhile, this 4×4 flaunts exceptional dual ground clearance settings, ballistic armor plating, mine protection, and other combat features.

International Scout LSII-Three By New Legend

Certainly no stranger here at Men’s Gear, New Legend is a superstar in the custom community for its wide range of eye-catching International Scout builds. No surprise there. The shop churns out fantastic Scout jobs, infusing modern touches into the iconic 4×4.

New Legend’s newest project is this decked out LSII-Three. As with previous builds, New Legend has made this vehicle more special, but in a way that the core elements aren’t lost.

The enhancements here are pretty comprehensive, from drivetrain and suspension improvements to a custom-made console. Saying New Legend didn’t skip any detail, no matter how tiny it was, is an understatement.

We’re talking Dynatrac axles, ARB air lockers, and Fox racing adjustable shocks — ensuring the Omaha Orange LSII-Three can trail even the most unforgiving of terrains. You’ll also find Hutchinson beadlocks, an Atlas II twin stick transfer case, and a completely new Outrider chassis outfitted with a four-link coil suspension. New Legend turned what’s already an off-road monster into an even tougher off-road beast.

Underneath, you’re looking at an LT-1 6.2-liter engine. This tops up at 460 horsepower and 480 pound-foot of torque. The interiors are notable as well. You’re getting an Italian leather saddle interior package, Corbeau seats, and a Focal/Mosconi sound system. The car’s six-point roll cage and custom made console house the audio components. New Legend certainly tinkered with everything there was to tinker with, even the littlest of details.

If you’re on the market for a buffed-up Omaha Orange LSII-Three, look no further than New Legend. Unfortunately, someone has already bought the $180,000 ride. But we’ll tell you as soon as New Legend outs a new custom job stat.

Matte Black International Harvester Scout II

There’s something about this 1976 International Harvester Scout II from Motorcar Studio that’s regal and otherworldly. Most likely that’s because of its matte charcoal metallic sheen coupled with a matte black hard top and rallye stripe. The result? One of the most gorgeous 4x4s we’ve seen here at Men’s Gear.

Sometimes, simple is indeed better. It’s a design that Motorcar Studio says strikes the perfect balance between subtle and aggressive, and we’re inclined to agree. The whole thing sports a dull but ominous black paint job, which is at once intimidating yet also classy and eye-catching. Precious yet equally utilitarian.

It’s magnificent on the outside and on the inside as well, with a recently rebuilt 304 ci V8 engine under the hood that gives it plenty of off-road capability. That’s combined with TorqueFlite 727 automatic transmission. You also get a four-inch Rough Country lift plus 17-inch Mickey Thompson Deegan wheels wearing Nitto 33×12.50 mud grapplers.

Hop on in and you’ll get to enjoy the black Corbeau seats on both the front and rear. On the dash, you’ll find plenty of modern input feeds for all your modern entertainment needs.

This isn’t a new ride, by the way. However, it’s been restored to perfection. All gauges are working. Interior floors have been rhino-lined for all-weather durability. There are fitted stock lap belts, but you can upgrade it with a roll bar and three-point seat belts.

It only has 35,516 miles thus far, and for $43,900, you can take it even further.
