The biggest news from Spyker at its New York auto show debut was, well, how important the U.S. market is for the boutique automaker.

“Spyker is delighted to be back at the New York International Automobile Show to unveil the new Spyker C8 Preliator Spyder in one of its most important markets, New York,” said Victor R. Muller, Spyker’s founder and CEO. “Historically, Spyker has sold half of its production to the United States of America, of which a very large number of cars were sold in this state through Spyker’s first dealer in the USA, Manhattan Motorcars.”

Production of the limited-run vehicle — only 100 Preliators between the coupe and spyder — should begin by summer 2018, according to the Dutch supercar maker. Koenigsegg is manufacturing the engines — 5.0-liter V8 units producing 600 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque with a six-speed manual as the only transmission. Spyker announced the partnerships at last month’s Geneva motor show.
