Everyday carry is all about striking a balance between functionality and carry-friendliness. Unfortunately, compromises are often necessary, even with gear widely considered the best of the best.

This is especially true in the world of multi-tools. Leatherman’s offerings, for instance, are the gold standard for many; however, they are often bulky and boast more functions than necessary for the average EDC user. On the other hand, more minimalist offerings don’t offer the same utility.

Tacray’s new MT1 multi-tools look to split the difference with a highly carry-friendly format and exceptionally well-considered array of functions and materials.

Goldilocks EDC multi-tool

So, what sets this multi-tool apart from the myriad other options on the market? Firstly, its size. Closed, the MT1 measures just 3.35 inches long — about the same as an average EDC knife (if not slightly smaller). With its tools extended, it’s only 5.67 inches total.

Furthermore, because the base tool is crafted from either aluminum or titanium (depending on your chosen configuration), it’s also exceptionally lightweight. At most, it weighs 3.16 ounces (and as little as 2.98 ounces). For reference, Leatherman’s best-selling ARC weighs a whopping 8.6 ounces.
