Shure’s new KSE1200 earphone system is a newer, cheaper version of its KSE1500 system ($2,999). Both are electrostatic earphone systems, meaning it’s able to play more powerful hi-res audio with significantly less distortion than other portable music players. The system includes Shure’s electrostatic earphones and a headphone amp, and the only thing really that’s really different between the KSE1200 than the KSE1500 systems is that the KSE1200 doesn’t have DSP and digital inputs, as most new high-quality players already of those built into them. Essentially, you’re getting an elite media player for $1,000 off — the KSE1200 costs $1,999 and is available now.
