Bremont, ever at the forefront of pairing watches to vehicles and people that go really, really fast, just released a cool new pilot’s watch that speed junkies are going to want to hear about.

Rolls-Royce is making a pass at the record for all-electric speed via a zero-emissions aircraft called “Spirit of Innovation”, meant to be fastest in history. (The goal is to blow past the current record of 213mph and tear through the sky at over 300mph in 2021.) Bremont, in its capacity as Official Timing Partner for the attempt, has developed a special mechanical pilot’s watch which it’ll strap to the wrists of the intrepid pilots making the flight. (Of course, you can buy one, too.)

The English watchmaker, which was involved in the aircraft’s cockpit design and manufacturing, utilized all its technical prowess in the production of the new watch, dubbed the ionBird. Machined from lightweight titanium and measuring 43mm in diameter, it’s powered by the BE-93-2AV chronometer-rated GMT movement and features anti-shock technology, two time zones and a 4 o’clock crown. A black dial with large Arabic numerals, lumed bronze sword hands, a 4:30 date window and inner and outer minutes/seconds scales makes for a handsome look.

Said Nick English, co-founder of Bremont along with his brother Giles: “The countless synergies in this project really do beggar belief. The passion for precision engineering, British manufacturing and aviation to name but a few. It is an extraordinary privilege to be working with the wonderful Rolls-Royce team on this project.”

Water-resistant to 100m and chronometer-certified, the ionBird will be ship on a brown nubuck strap or a steel bracelet at a price of $6,095 or $6,695, respectively.
