The great thing about Philips Hue smart lights is that they work with pretty much everything, including Amazon Echo, Apple HomeKit and Google Home. Basically, if you buy Phillips Hue smart lights you can rest easy knowing you can control them with the smart speaker in your house. And today, the company announced the first outdoor smart lights. According to its press release, the new Philips Hue outdoor products “span both the Philips Hue white and Philips Hue white and color ambiance ranges, allowing users to improve the security of their home for added peace of mind as well as creating the perfect outdoor ambiance, all with the simple tap of a button.”
Philips announced two products in its outdoor range. There’s the Philips Hue Lily, a $280 spotlight that’s designed to illuminate a garden, and the Philips Hue Calla, a $130 ground light that’s designed to brighten up outdoor pathways. The press release doesn’t same much about the ruggedness of these new outdoor lights, but I’m guessing they’ll have no problem handling a little rain or even a deluge.
These outdoor lights are designed to be added to somebody’s current Phillips Hue system. That said, it’s important to note that these outdoor lights need to be connected to wi-fi in order to work properly. If you’re interested in them, I suggest first making sure that the outdoor area you’re aiming to place these lights has wi-fi connectivity.
More information about these lights is expected to be announced on March 19 when the company is having an official press conference. The outdoor range is expected to be available this summer.
