McLaren has been pumping out the products lately. The British speed company will bring a second new vehicle to the Geneva auto show in March, in addition to the P1 GTR. The new model is called 675LT, for longtail; it sits above the 650S and Asia-only 625C. The company sent along this clip of a tire spinning to get us worked up.
The 675LT will be part of McLaren’s “Super Series” of cars, which includes the 650S. It’s above the “Sport Series,” the cars of which will be announced at a later date. Both are below the “Ultimate Series,” which includes the wild P1 and P1 GTR hybrids. The 675LT will deliver 666 hp (675 PS), and will only be offered in hardtop coupe form. Deliveries are set to start later this year.
The Longtail was named after “one of the purest GT sports cars of all time,” the McLaren F1 GTR Longtail. The name made its debut during the 1997 season of racing. This was when McLaren was pushing the envelope, coming off its 1995 win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The nickname came from the LT’s stretched silhouette, and has stuck since then.
McLaren says it will reveal more details before the Geneva show, but we can guess it will cost more than the $265,000 base price of the 650S and probably less than the P1’s $1.2 million price tag. It has to use the company’s 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8, because that’s basically the only motor McLaren is making right now. We’ll find out more in a few weeks.
