The production-ready McLaren P1 GTR will make its world premiere at the Geneva auto show in March. The hypercar will be part of the company’s Driver Program and will only be drivable (legally) on a race track.
The company says the P1 GTR will be the fastest ride ever to wear a McLaren badge, pumping out 986 hp from the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine augmented by an electric motor. McLaren is testing the car in Europe and the Middle East as we speak. The company released this video on Friday.
Upgrades from the company’s motorsports arm include weight reductions, an extended front track, new exhaust and a fixed rear wing. It also gets slick tires and an on-board air-jacking system.
The McLaren P1 GTR Driver Program will offer an experience that few outside of a works racing operation will ever have. Owners will have their P1 GTRs built and maintained by McLaren and they’ll be offered driver training as well as access to the facilities and staff at the McLaren Technology Center. McLaren will tailor the program to fit the needs and skills of each owner.
We’ll learn more about the production-ready GTR, hopefully including price, at the Geneva Motor Show in a few months.
