GoPro’s newest action camera, named Hero, looks near identical to the company’s flagship action camera, the Hero6 Black. It has a two-inch touchscreen, built-in wifi, and a rugged body that’s waterproof up to 30 feet. And the new Hero has some of the same capabilities as the Hero 6 Black, too. It supports voice control and digital video stabilization. The main difference is that it’s not quite as good of a camera. It won’t shoot 4K videos or as excellent slow-mos. The Hero is capable of capturing 10-megapixel stills and shooting 1440p and 1080p videos at 60fps. The other main thing is the price. At $199, it’s by far the cheapest GoPro you can buy.

With today’s announcement, GoPro updated its product lineup to include the Hero5 Black ($299), Hero6 Black ($399) and Fusion 360 camera ($699). That’s right, GoPro seems to be abandoning its Session line of cameras. If you like the Sesson form factor, you can still find them on Best Buy and Amazon. Refurbished Session cameras can be found on GoPro’s website, too.

It’s no secret that GoPro has been struggling, and the introduction of the Hero looks like an effort to right that ship. The entry-level camera brings a touchscreen and many of its Hero6 Black’s premium features to something that’s more affordable and accessible to more people. It’s designed really as an action camera for people who have never used an action camera before. If you want just want an action camera to take places your smartphone can’t go, and you’ve have had your eye on GoPro for a while, the new Hero seems like a pretty good deal.

The GoPro Hero action camera is available today on the company’s website.
