Mercedes-AMG’s Project One Hypercar Delayed Until 2021

It’s Taking Longer Than Expected

There’s a lot to be excited about with the Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar. One of the things we were pumped about was that it was supossed to come out soon. Well, according to the German publication Auto Moto und Sport, the car will take some more time than was originally thought. The project has been pushed out to 2021.

Why? Well, it seems that using a Formula 1 engine in a road car and making it legal is a little more tricky than Mercedes thought it would be. The company is finding that the new emissions standards are making things difficult according to Motor1. The engineers at Mercedes seem to have underestimated the task of transforming the V6 engine into a street-legal mill.

The emissions issue is just one part of the problem. F1 engines are very special machines with complicated startup sequences. You can’t just toss one into a car and hit the starter button. Oil needs to be brought up to temperature and F1 engines are actually started with an external starter in many cases. This means engineers have a major task on their hands of making the engine more consumer-friendly while still achieving the power outputs promised to the world. Hopefully, Mercedes will get its house in order by 2021. We can’t wait for this car to come out.

More News of the Ferrari 812 Spider Coming In September

A Drop-Top Superfast

If you’ve always loved the 812 Superfast but were dismayed by the fact that Ferrari doesn’t sell a drop-top version, then you should listen up. According to a car collector that is intimate with Ferrari, the 812 Superfast could be coming as early as September. We reported on this news before, but now The Supercar Blog has more of a concrete confirmation due to an interview.

The publication sat down with a car collector, who just so happens to be one of the few people who will be getting the upcoming Bugatti EB110 Tribute car. It stands to reason that this person knows his or her stuff. The unnamed collector told the publication that the 812 Spider will come in September and it will get the same V12 engine that’s in the coupe.

In the coupe, that 6.5-liter engine produces 789 hp and 530 lb-ft of torque. The power numbers likely will stay the same for the convertible version of the car. However, the convertible will likely be slightly slower than the coupe overall. That means it won’t quite achieve the 812 Superfast’s 0–62 mph time of 2.9 seconds. Still, you’re looking at something between 3.0 seconds and 3.5 seconds most likely.

When it comes to what the car will actually look like, the verdict is still out. It will have most of the same features and bodywork as the 812 Superfast coupe, but obviously, changes will be made to the car to accommodate the folding roof. The Supercar Blog stated that the top could be a hardtop. This, however, is just speculation. The publication’s source did not say it would be a hardtop car. We’d love to see it as a hardtop, but would not be surprised if Ferrari chose to do a soft-top roof instead.

The Upcoming Bugatti EB110 Tribute Car Is Lighter and More Powerful than the Chiron

A Supremely Fast Car Will Come Soon

The Bugatti EB110 Tribute car will debut soon at Pebble Beach, but until then we’ve been looking for the latest information about the car. According to The Supercar Blog, the new EB110 Tribute will be lighter weight and more powerful than the Chiron currently is.

The EB110 Tribute car will use an 8.0-liter W16 engine. It’s the same engine in the Chiron. Bugatti must have worked some magic on it to ensure that it will make more power because according to The Supercar Blog, a source told the publication the engine in the new car will come with “more boost.”

The publication also shared that it has confirmed there will be only 10 models made and each of them will come with a price tag of €8 million ($8.9 million) each.

There isn’t much other information out there on the vehicle. The Supercar Blog recently noted there’s a glimpse of the car under wraps in the video below. However, you don’t actually see the car. You just get a quick glimpse of it.

The Tushek TS 900 H Apex Is a 937 hp Hybrid Hypercar

A Powerful Hybrid from Slovenia

The new car from the Slovenian racing driver Alijosa Tushek’s company is the TS 900 H Apex. It’s a hybrid monster that builds upon the success of the company’s first car, the Renovatio T500

The new TS 900 H Apex features carbon fiber bodywork and an Audi-sourced supercharged 4.2-liter V8 that’s combined with two electric motors for a total power output of 937 hp and 1032 lb-ft of torque. The power-split between the electric motors and the gasoline engine is roughly 50:50, according to EVO.

The engine of the car is mounted in the rear and there is an electric motor at each axle that provides about half the power. The electric motors also enable a 31-mile electric-only driving range, torque vectoring, and instant power delivery.

As we said above, the car gets a carbon-fiber body. It also gets a chrome-moly space frame to help keep weight down. The hardtop of the car is removable so owners can get some sun on nice days.

In terms of performance, you’re looking at a car that can do a 0-60 mph run in just 2.5 seconds. Its top speed? A whopping 236 mph. The car comes with a special six-speed sequential gearbox that routes power to all four of the 19-inch BBS wheels wrapped in Pirelli Trofeo R tires. Providing the stopping power are six-piston up front and four-piston rear Brembo brakes. Pricing has not yet been released.

You Missed Out On Buying this 1975 Beradino at Saturday’s Auction

A Truly Versatile Sports Car

Anything can happen at a car auction. A man or woman can find the car of their dreams, such as this 1975 Beradino. The gorgeous car recently sold at a Coys’ auction on August 3. The auction was set against the backdrop of the Classic Days at Schloss Dyck in Germany. Many great cars were sold, but the Beradino is the one that stands out to us.

The Beradino was created by JP Paulussen in the 1960s. It was supossed to be timeless and classic all at once. We think he pulled it off. It was also supposed to be highly versatile. It offers a fastback shape, a notchback, and a convertible. All of these shapes are offered in one car, and the owner can change the shape in a matter of minutes.

Powering the vehicle is a flat 6-cylinder Porsche 911 engine from that same era. The car also received Porsche 911 brakes and electronics, so, as you can imagine, it’s a quick and fun car to drive.

The particular car that was sold at auction on August 3 is German registered. Coys’ didn’t disclose the chassis number in its listing of the car online. It sold for €110,779 (about $124,000).

McLaren Is Working on a 720S Longtail

The March Forward With New Models Continues

In about decade, McLaren has put out eight cars. The next could be a 720S Longtail. McLaren has no plans of slowing down, and the longtail version of the 720S makes quite a lot of sense. According to PistonHeads, one of the two cars coming to the company’s lineup next year will be a 720S Longtail. The other is the already reported McLaren roadster or speedster

While the speedster or whatever, McLaren ends up calling its roofless car will be impressive, the longtail version of the 720S will arguably be the more important car because it’s more of an all-around, use-it-everyday car. The vehicle will likely get more power than the regular 720S and be improved in many of the ways that people would like to see the car improved.

This Longtail move will also probably earn the supercar a new name. In the case of the 600LT, that car got its start as the 570S. Motor Authority suspects the name will by 750LT, but there’s no indication beyond the naming schemes of the previous Longtail cars that this will be the case.

There are no concrete details on what McLaren will do with the model, but we suspect it will have revised styling but still fit in with the McLaren lineup easily. This should be a wonderful Longtail model, and we’re excited to see what comes of it.

Pininfarina Releases Photos of the Battista on the Road

This Hypercar Is a Stunning Sight

The Pininfarina Battista is an insane hypercar, and now the company has released photos and video of the car driving on the road. The car was debuted at the Geneva Motor Show, but the vehicle seen here is slightly revised. There are a new front fascia and some minor changes to the exterior of the car. It’s still undeniably the Battista, and it’s absolutely gorgeous.

According to Motor Authority, the recent design changes to the exterior of the car will help the vehicle achieve an even more impressive 300 miles per charge. Previously the company claimed 280 miles per charge, so that bump is significant.

Otherwise, the car is unchanged. It still features the Rimac-sourced powertrain. This system includes four electric motors that produce up to 1,877 hp and 1,696 lb-ft of torque. That amount of power should make the car sprint up to 60 mph from a stop in just 2.0 seconds.

As you can see in the video below, the Battista was brought to New York City for its on-the-road photoshoot. The company also has some stunning shots of the car on what look like curvy mountain roads and a beautiful harbor. It’s all good stuff, and you should check out all the images and video included below.

Ferrari Will Reveal Two New Models In September

Get Ready for Some Prancing Horses

Ferrari plans to expand its lineup in the future, and two of those new models will come in September according to the company’s CEO, Louis Camilleri. The company will hold the reveal of these new models at the Fiorano Circuit in Maranello. Invites for the event have already been sent out, according to reports

The company plans to introduce five new models. These are the first two and another will come before the end of the year. What the new models will be is still unknown. It could be a convertible version of the 812 Superfast. Ferrari has yet to put out a drop-top version of that car. It was rumored that would be one of the vehicles.

It’s also rumored that Ferarri will release its first SUV. The SUV in question is reportedly called the Purosangue. While it may seem sacrilegious for The Prancing Horse logo to feature on an SUV, it’s a vehicle that will likely sell well. Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls Royce, and other companies have SUVs now. It only makes sense for Ferrari to follow suit.

The final car that’s rumored is a new version of the Ferrari Dino. It has been said that the company is working on a new engine, and that engine is being produced for a new Dino. It will be interesting to see if this is the case. No matter what you can expect Ferrari’s additional models to be impressive.

One of 58 Special Street-Legal McLaren P1 GTRs Is For Sale

For The Person Who Wants a P1 for the Road

If you’ve always dreamed of driving a McLaren P1 on the road, then you need to check out this P1 GTR that is currently for sale. Only 58 of the road-legal version of the P1 exist. Lanzante Limited is the company that handled the P1’s road conversion, and now the website Luxury and Expensive has listed one for sale, and it’s very yellow.

McLaren originally built the P1 as a track-only car, but as you might expect something so cool and fast and innovative was eventually taken to the streets by folks with plenty of money to pay for the conversion. The British company Lansante Limited has worked with McLaren in the past and did so again to make the dreams of having a road-legal P1 a reality.

The car in question here is number 34 of the 58 cars that underwent the changes needed to make the car legal for the road, at least in the European Union. Each of the street-legal cars is a little different, so no two are exactly alike. What doesn’t change, though, is the powertrain. All of the cars, including the one see here have a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-8 and an electric motor. Together they put out 986 hp.

So, what’s the price of this particular one? Well, if you’re worried about price, then you can’t afford it. The website says the price will be disclosed upon request. You can bet it will be more than the P1’s $1.15 million original price tag due to its exclusivity.

Watch the 2020 Supra Lap Buttonwillow Raceway Faster than a Porsche 911 GT2

The Supra Is Super Speedy

The 2020 Toyota Supra was less exciting than some people would have hoped, but there’s no denying even from its many critics that the car is an impressive and fast machine. The car might not be designed for the racetrack, but that doesn’t mean it can’t perform well on one. The guys at Evasive Motorsports proved that by taking their black Supra to the Buttonwillow Raceway.

The car was able to lap the track with a time of 1:58.92, which is wicked fast. To put that into perspective, Carscoops notes that a 997-generation Porsche 911 GT2 around the same circuit in roughly the same conditions managed to put up a time of 1:59.7.

The 2020 Supra is a little more than meets the eye. The stated power numbers for the car have proved to be under-reported in previous tests, so it’s clear that Toyota is able to get a lot out of this vehicle. This is good news for both people who only drive their car on the street but also the track-day bros, who want to lay down some serious lap times.

You can check out the full video below. The guys at Evasive Motorsports put together a nice video of the car’s time at the racetrack.

Bugatti EB110 Tribute Build Slots are Already Sold Out

You’ll Have to Enjoy This One from Afar

Bugatti has an EB110 Tribute car that it’s keeping a very tight lid on. There’s little information out about the car beyond the fact that it should make its first appearance at Pebble Beach. While little is known about the car, we can say that it’s a for sure vehicle.

Multiple reports have surfaced saying the car does exist and should be at Pebble Beach. A new report by The Supercar Blog says that all of the build slots for the car have already been sold.

The unnamed source told the publication that all of the 10 cars that Bugatti will make have already been spoken for. The publication also stated that each of the cars will go for €8 million, which equates to about $8.8 million. The price is expected to only go up. The Supercar Blog reported that prices are expected to climb to €10 million, or roughly $11 million after the launch.

Despite the fact that all of the EB110 Tribute cars are spoken for, we’re excited to see what Bugatti has in the works. When the EB110 first hit the scene it was a revelation. It has since become one of the most amazing supercars of all time. If Bugatti is going to build a tribute car, it needs to have something wholly unique.

Pagani Revealed the $3.4 Million Huayra Roadster BC

An Excercise in Excess

If you like your hypercars over-the-top and amazing, then the Huayra Roadster BC is for you. We’ve reported on this car before. Now it’s officially here. The car is a $3.4 million machine with a crazy powerful engine and looks that will catch the eye of anyone. Pagani recently revealed the car, and it’s a stunning example of what makes Pagani so special as a company.

The Huayra Roadster BC features a 6.0-liter AMG V12. That engine is good for a whopping 800 hp and 774 lb-ft of torque. This means the Roadster BC is more powerful than the coupe version. The car gets a seven-speed Xtrac sequential gearbox that works to send all that power to the rear wheels.

The car weighs only 2,685 pounds. The engine power combined with the respectable weight means this car should outpace the BC Coupe. That means it should do a 0-60 mph run in under 2.5 seconds. The Roadster BC was designed for twisty roads and racetracks. Pagani says the car can pull 1.9 Gs of max lateral force in corners.

The company will make only 40 of the Roadster BC, and the car will make its first official appearance at the Monterey Car Week.

De Tomaso P72 Supercar and the P70 Will be at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

Two Amazing Cars At the Same Event

The De Tomaso P72 marks the revival of the iconic brand. The car was revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It’s a beautiful supercar inspired by the P70 that came from the brand back when it earned its reputation as one of the most iconic supercar brands. Now the two cars will both be at the Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance in California in August, according to Motor Authority

This will mark the P72’s first public appearance in North America. It will also mark the first time that the P70 has appeared with the P72 at the same venue. It will be nice to see these two cars together to be able to compare them both side-by-side.

De tomaso P70

De tomaso P70

The original P70 was a car that came from a collaboration between De Tomaso and Carroll Shelby. The car used the De Tomaso’s Vallelunga sports car as its basis, but it had a Ford V8 engine in it and some special bodywork. It was presented as the Ghia De Tomaso Sport 5000 at the Turin auto show in 1965. It was an important car for the company, but not the best-known. If you can, we highly suggest you catch it and the new car in California.

Go to the Monterey Car Week to See the Lotus Evija

It’ll Appear at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering

Lotus told CNET Roadshow that it would bring it’s new Evija all-electric hypercar to the Monterey Car Week in California in August. The car will make its public debut at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering on August 16. This will be your first opportunity to see the car publicly.

In case you were under a rock when Lotus first unveiled its amazing hypercar, the vehicle is an all-electric machine with 1,973 hp and 1,250 pound-feet of torque. That makes it good for a 0-60 mph time somewhere under three seconds. Its top speed is over 200 mph.

The Evija is more than just a marvel of electric power. The vehicle is also a revelation from an exterior and interior design standpoint. The exterior features some of the most-advanced aerodynamics on any vehicle to date. It’s also simply a stunning machine to look at, and that’s true from absolutely every angle.

While we, unfortunately, won’t be at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering on August 16, we would highly encourage anyone who will be near there to find a way to get there. The Lotus alone is reason enough to go there and enjoy yourself.

Is the New 2020 Nissan GT-R Nismo Worth It?

Henry Catchpole of Carfection Takes a Closer Look

The Nissan GT-R is an old car at this point. The car’s design dates back to 2007, which was 12 years ago. With a design this old, you might be thinking there’s no way that the GT-R can even compete with the new designs out there, but Nissan has spent a lot of time and effort fine-tuning its AWD supercar. Henry Catchpole of Carfection decided to get behind the wheel of the new Nismo version of the car to see if it’s still worth it.

What Catchpole finds is that the updates that Nissan has made some very important updates. The car is definitely better than it was before. Nissan’s fine-tuning efforts have turned the GT-R, especially in Nismo trim, into an even more impressive machine.

It’s clear that Catchpole feels there’s still plenty to love in the GT-R. It will be interesting to see how much longer Nissan chooses to continue on with the vehicle’s current design. We’d assume they have the next-generation GT-R in the works, but it seems like all the fine-tuning the company has done over the last several years has been worth it.

With that said, he says that he would get the Track Edition over the Nismo version. The reason is that you get much of the notable upgrades–like the suspension and some of the fine-tuning elements–at a lower price point.

Porsche Revealed the Entry-Level 911 Carrera Coupe and Cabriolet

The Most Basic Version of the Cars

The most basic version of the Porsche 911 Carrera has now been unveiled. Porsche chose to detune the twin-turbocharged flat-six engine and downgrade some of the chassis components. These cars offer very good performance and driving dynamics for a slightly lower price.

In the base 911 Carrera, you only get 380 hp. That’s down from the Carrera S’s 444 hp. Despite this drop in horsepower, the car is still capable of making the 0-62 mph sprint in just 4.2 seconds. The base model only comes with the eight-speed PDK automatic transmission. The model’s weight is down by about 22 pounds from the Carrera S.

The car also features 19-inch wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear. Providing the stopping power are fou-piston calipers. These are slightly smaller than the ones on the Carrera S. When you go inside the car, you’ll notice that it features essentially the same cabin as other 911s. It offers the same 10.9-inch PCM infotainment system and central rev counter with two high-definition displays.

According to Car and Driver, the coupe version of the car will cost $98,750 and the cabriolet version costs $111,550. These cars will go on sale at the beginning of 2020.

SCC Will Deliver the First Tuatara at Monterey Car Week

The SSC Tuatara Will Arrive, Finally

After many years of waiting, the company SSC North America will finally deliver the first of its Tuatara hypercars. The car was first shown off nearly a decade ago, and now the first official model will appear at August 16 at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering and be delivered to the buyer, according to Motor Authority

The SSC Tuatara is no run-of-the-mill hypercar. It’s more than a crap-ton of horsepower in a mid-engine machine. The vehicle has been purposefully and masterfully designed. For example, its aerodynamic shape offers a drag coefficient of just 0.279, lower than most other hypercars. This should help make the car capable of nearly 300 mph. The company’s CEO says it should be able to break 300 mph.

The Tuatara comes packing a lot of heat in the form of a 5.9-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 that was developed by SSC. That engine can make up to 1,750 hp with the right fuel. The car also comes with several active aero elements, which should help with stability at speed. Pair all these impressive notes with the fact that the car only weighs 2,750 pounds, and you get the picture as to why this car is so important.

The Lotus Evora GT Is for North America

Ready for Canadians and Americans

If you looked at the new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette and said, “Nope not the midengine car for me,” and you also don’t want a McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, or any of the other exotics out there, then you should look to the aging but still lovely Lotus Evora. The company just put out a new car specifically for the North American market. It’s the Lotus Evora GT, and it’s quite lovely.

For under $100k ($96,950 to be exact) you can get your hands on the most powerful street-legal Lotus available right now. The Evora GT features either a two-seat or a 2+2 seat arrangement. It also comes with a 3.5-liter supercharged six-cylinder engine that puts out 416 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. That engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission (only a masochist would buy the automatic in this car).

This powertrain makes for a 0-60 mph time of just 3.8 seconds. The car’s top speed? It’s 188 mph. The automatic transmission is a tenth of a second slower, so that’s yet another reason to buy the manual gearbox. In terms of suspension, Eibach springs and Bilstein dampers are standard. The car also gets 19-inch wheels up front and 20-inch in the rear. Those wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Lotus also updated the exterior with front lip spoiler, wheel arch louvers, ducts behind the wheels, and a rear diffuser. Inside there’s Alcantara and carbon fiber materials as well as a magnesium steering wheel with Alcantara and leather. Lotus put in a 7-inch infotainment screen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Andriod Auto, and navigation. Overall, it looks like one killer driving machine.

Pagani Teases the Huayra Roadster BC and Hides Some Easter Eggs in the Code of its Homepage

Technical Specs are Still Unknown

It has been more than half a decade since Pagani revealed the Huayra, but the company continues to refine its creation with new models and improved aerodynamics, engines, and variants. The next expected version is the Huayra Roadster BC, and it should appear at Pebble Beach.

Pagani just teased the new version of the car with the shadowy image you see above. The car in the image is cloaked and you can’t see much of what is there. What you can tell is that it’s definitely the Huayra. We did some digging on the company’s website and looked at the page source of the website’s homepage. What we saw surprised us. The image below was crafted in code.

Pagani Huayra roadster bc

Pagani Huayra roadster bc

Below this was the links to the lead image which were clearly labeled “PAGANI_HUAYRA_ROADSTER_BC.” There was some speculation that the company would use that nomenclature for the car. EVO Magazine speculated on the nomenclature. Now it seems pretty clear. The car will be the Pagani Huayra Roadster BC, and it will be awesome.

There’s always the chance that the design in the codes has always been there, but we’d like to think we would have noticed it. It looks to us to be the rear of the car. Again you can’t see much, but it’s a neat element nonetheless. We looked for additional gems on the source page and failed to see anything else. We’re pumped for the official reveal of the Huayra Roadster BC at Pebble Beach.

The Caterham Seven 458 CSR Is Now Available Outside of the UK

The Ultimate Caterham Seven

The Caterham Seven 485 CSR is the sharp end of the stick for the sports car company. It takes the 485 and turns it into an even more of an impressive sports car. The best news? It’s available outside of the UK, meaning all of Europe can enjoy this special Caterham for a mere $61,441 or €54,995. That’s not chump change, but when you consider the performance of such a car, it’s an absolute bargain.

The Caterham Seven 485 CSR can do a 0-62 mph sprint in just 3.9 seconds. It has a top speed of 140 mph. This kind of performance comes from the combination of the Ford Duratec 2.0-liter engine that produces 234 hp and 152 lb-ft. How does a car with so little power go so fast? Lightweighting. The 485 CSR weighs just 1,279 pounds. That gives it roughly the same power-to-weight ratio as a Lamborghini Huracan, according to Motor1.

Caterham Seven 485 CSR

Caterham Seven 485 CSR

The vehicle gets inbound front suspension, double-wishbone rear suspension, and 15-inch alloys with Avon ZZS tires. Additionally, there are some aerodynamics goodies, a Momo steering wheel, carbon fiber dash, limited-slip differential, and adjustable seats clad in leather. There are some options including more carbon fiber trim, LED lights, and Alcantara on the dash.

While all of this is wonderful, the big news is that Caterham will bring the car to markets outside the UK. The CEO Graham Macdonald said this of the business choice: “We’ve had to trim our EU range because of the WLTP regulations, but I’m delighted that we can still offer our continental European customers something that really reflects what Caterham has always been about – the thrill of driving.” He also called the car the “ultimate Caterham Seven.” We agree with him.
