2022 Nissan GT-R Nismo: the ‘Millionth Facelift’ is Here

Nissan has unveiled a new facelift for the Nissan GT-R NISMO scheduled to launch in Japan in October together with another Special Edition version. The Nissan GT-R was introduced in 2007 and has the longest production run of any supercar, the first Nismo version was introduced in 2013, followed by another update in 2019 – the 2022 version builds on the success of the previous two models.

The Special Edition model features an exclusive NISMO clear coated carbon fiber hood that is 100grams lighter compared to standard painted hood and 20-inch exclusive edition Rays aluminium forged wheels with red accents that match the body accents. Both models will be offered in the new Nismo-exclusive Nismo Stealth Grey body color inspired by track tarmacs that GT-Rs have competed on.

The 2022 Nissan GT-R Nismo is powered by a VR38DETT 3.8 litre twin-turbo V6 engine with turbochargers from the GT3 race car and an output of 600hp. The special edition built-to-order Nismo uses high precision, weight balanced parts for the car including piston rings, connecting rods, flywheel, crankshaft, crank pulley and valve springs joined with tight tolerance for quick revs and quicker turbo spooling.

Each engine of the Nismo is specially handcrafted by its own Takumi technician, the Takumi certification plate on the engine is also offered in an exclusive color. A miniature Nissan GT-R toy car will be available in the ‘Tomica Happy set’ (a meal set for children) as a result of the collaboration of Nissan and MacDonald in Japan. Nissan and MacDonald held a joint event at Nissan’s HQ in Yokohama to promote the collaboration. Happy set will only be available from April 16th for a limited time.

The exterior of the Nismo features large Brembo calipers and the largest carbon ceramic rotors ever fitted on a Japanese performance car at 410mm in the front and 390mm on the rear. The car remains as Nissan’s ultimate performance car with proven technology and enhanced driving experience.

The Continental GT Speed Convertible

In late March 2021, Bentley unveiled the impressive Continental GT Speed edition, the top of the line version in terms of performance and driver-focused in the Bentley model range, but I’m more of an open-top kind of driver, so I was really happy to see Bentley now adds their Convertible model to the ‘Speed’ range too, with the new Continental GT Speed Convertible.

Usually, the open-top version of the Bentley Continental GT gets the GTC denomination, but for the Speed version they keep it at GT Speed Convertible, strange, but that’s marketing I guess, still, this new gran tourer now offers everything we’ve seen on the Speed coupe, but with the added bonus of having your hair in the wind, enjoying the sun with the impressive burble of the massive, 6.0-liter W12 TSI engine emitting from the large exhaust at the rear.

The Continental GT Speed Convertible still comes with 650 bhp and 900 nM (664 lb-ft) of torque to deliver an acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in only 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 208 mph (335 km/h) … with the top down, I guess a trip to the hairdresser will be required after testing that top speed.

Every Bentley convertible has been known for being as quiet as the coupe once the roof comes up, and on this Continental GT Speed Convertible that is no different, Bentley proudly states: “Roof improvements deliver a convertible as quiet inside as the previous generation coupe”, which isn’t bad, to be honest, and to make things even more interesting, you have to choice of seven different roof colors … including tweed. The Z-Fold roof only takes 19 seconds to change this car from a luxurious coupe to an open GT, fully automated naturally.

Naturally, the new GT Speed Convertible comes with enhanced chassis technology, including All-Wheel Steering, an electronic rear differential, and optional carbon-ceramic disks, but also with the special Speed sport sills, dark tint grilles, and Speed badging, while three different finished are possible on the bespoke 22-inch forged Speed wheels.

Chris Craft, Member of the Board for Sales and Marketing at Bentley Motors, comments: “The new Speed is the most driver-focused Continental GT Convertible available and unique in its ability to offer extremely refined, all-season open-top Grand Touring with the added edge of astonishing performance and dynamism. Being a convertible, this new Bentley requires additional commodities compared to the Continental GT Speed coupe, a neckwarmer is seamlessly integrated into the heated and vented Comfort Seats, optimizing efficiency and airflow around the electrically adjustable headrests. The styling highlight of the new neckwarmer is a chrome center vane that stretches the full width of the duct, echoing Bentley’s famous “bullseye” vents. Combined with a heated steering wheel and heated armrests, these sophisticated comfort features create a luxurious driving experience in all
environments.

McLaren Artura Performance Figures [0-100km/h, ¼ mile, Top Speed]

McLaren has finally revealed the performance numbers of their new hybrid supercar, the Artura.

The McLaren Artura is powered by a 3.0L V6 twin-turbo engine that generates 585hp and 585Nm of torque. This engine is 190mm shorter, 220mm narrower and 50kg lighter in weight compared to McLaren’s 4.0L V8 twin-turbo engine. The 120 degree twin-turbocharged M630 unit delivers unmatched performance and ensures compact packaging. A 180-degree angle was considered but dismissed because it raised the centre of gravity as well as the crankshaft.

The wide angle V6 cylinders allows the turbochargers to fit within the banks in a ‘hot vee’ configuration which ensures a less restrictive exhaust layout. The hybrid system is completed by an E-Motor that produces an extra 95hp and 225nm of torque, for a total of 680hp and 810nm of torque when combined with the ICE.

A 7.4kWh Five-module Lithium Ion energy dense battery pack provides an electric-only capability and is positioned low down behind the driver. The Artura has an electric range of 30km. This position optimises the centre of gravity, polar moment of inertia and also improves the dynamic agility of the car.

The Hybrid battery is fitted in a cooling manifold together with the new electric heating, air conditioning system and ventilation which are also used to control the air temperatures in the cabin. The batteries of the car are thermally controlled via dielectric oil, a technology used to maintain the E-motor at operating temperatures that delivers high performance.

The batteries take approximately 2.5hrs to charge from 0-80% when charged through EVSE socket and can never truly run out of power even when parked for a long period, the management also ensures that the battery units remain in peak conditions at all times. The battery unit comes with a warranty of years or 75,000km. An integrated power unit(IPU) acts as a DC/DC converter for the 12v system and minimises the weight.

The engine of the Artura powers the rear wheels through an eight-speed transmission that is designed for optimised packaging, the length of the gear cluster has been reduced by 40mm.

The driver can adjust the electric motor deployment to prioritise range, power or to shut off the internal combustion engine for a silent drive. Energy harvesting is enabled from the combustion engine and the battery can be charged from low to 80% within minutes under normal driving conditions which ensures that the driver can shift to electric-only mode.

Bentley Continental GT3 Pikes Peak Revealed with Massive Wing and Side-Exit Exhausts

This is the new Bentley Continental GT3 Pikes Peak, and for the first time the GT3 racecar will run on biofuel up the hill. The new Continental GT3 Pikes Peak is designed and built with the aim to compete for the Time Attack 1 record for the 2021 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb whereby the Bentley will compete on renewable fuel for the first time.

The redesigned Continental GT3 racer will power its way through the 12.42 mile course on biofuel-based gasoline. The company is still testing other fuels blends with possible Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reductions of up to 85% over standard gasoline.

The 4.0L turbo V8 from the Continental GT V8 is still being used on the GT3 Pikes Peak edition. The engine modifications will improve the horsepower despite the conditions of the mountain. Additional modifications include air cooling scoops and stopwatch mounted next to the steering wheel.

The vehicle will have to complete the 5000ft climb which will include 156 corners at an average speed of 78mph and cross the line in less than 9minutes and 36 seconds to break the record. The current record was set by the three-time Pikes Peak champion and former ‘King of the Mountain’ Rhys Millen, he is also the one who captured the two Pikes Peak records for Bentley. The record attained in 2018 was with the Bentley W12 SUV and the one in 2019 was achieved in a Continental GT.

The Continental GT3 has been modified in and out to make it the most powerful Continental GT and Bentley car ever as well as sustain the 9,300ft climb at the start line and course climb to 14,100 ft where the air is 1\3 dense than at sea level.

The exterior of the vehicle features the biggest rear wing ever fitted on a Bentley, rear diffuser surrounding the transaxle gearbox and two-plane splitter at the front with separate dive planes that balances the rear aerodynamic package.

The Pikes Peak project is managed together with the British Continental GT3 customer team Fastr. Technical teams from Bentley, Fastr and specialists from M-sport will be working together to draw out maximum performance from the Continental GT3 package which will be run by the same team in Colorado with assistance from K-PAX racing.

The vehicle will be undergoing major tests in coming weeks, it is currently based in the UK but will be shipped to the USA for altitude testing and evaluation. An update of the progress will be showcased in May ahead of the 99th running of the competition on 27th June.

Bentley’s 2021 Pikes Peak racer unveiled

Bentley wants to add a third consecutive victory to their Pikes Peak performance, they already managed the Production SUV record and the Production Car record in 2018 and 2019, and now want to tackle the Time Attack 1 record with a very special, bespoke built race car driven by former ‘King of the Mountain’, Rhys Millen.

The new Bentley Continental GT3 Pikes Peak has been specifically designed to compete for the Time Attack 1 record at this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb taking place on June 27 this year, the 12.42-mile course will be run on a biofuel based gasoline, a first for a competition Bentley, as a goal to offer sustainable fuels to Bentley’s customers around the world.

This specific car is a heavily modified Continental GT3 racer, run in conjunction with British Continental GT3 customer team Fastr, who have successfully campaigned their Bentley race car in time attack competitions in the UK. Teams from both Bentley and Fastr are working together with specialists from M-Sport in Cumbria to achieve the maximum possible performance from the Continental GT3 package, before taking the car to Colorado where it will be driven by Fastr with assistance from K-PAX Racing.

Taking the Time Attack 1 record will have this Continental GT3 Pikes Peak cover the climb in less than 9 minutes and 36 seconds while reaching an average speed of 78 mph over the 156 corners during a nearly 5,000 ft climb, but as the start is already at a 9,300 ft elevation, the finish at 14,100 ft high comes with a 1/3 less density for the air compared to sea level, which requires very specific settings for both the car’s aerodynamics and the engine tuning.

This 2021 Bentley Continental GT3 Pikes Peak boasts the largest rear wing ever seen on a Bentley, a massive rear diffuser helps even further while the front has a two-plane splitter fitted together with massive ‘dive planes’ on either side for optimum stability in those grueling 156 corners that have to be taken at the highest possible speed to reach that record-setting time at the finish.

At this time the Continental GT3 Pikes Peak is undergoing final testing and fine-tuning in the UK, but the car will soon be transported to the USA for high-altitude testing to make sure the car is as ready as possible for the ultimate test on June 27 at the 99th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

The Cullinan Recreation Module

Rolls Royce takes the concept of a tailgate party to a completely different level with their Recreation Module on the luxury SUV in their range, the massive Cullinan, with a 2,245 mm loading length and boot capacity of up to 1,930 liters, there is room for some bespoke options in the rear of this impressive high-end SUV, and this opportunity is taken up very nicely by Rolls Royce Motor Cars.

Aside from the Recreation Module, you can add a second option at the rear of the Rolls Royce Cullinan, a set of seats that slide out of the rear onto the tailgate so owners can have a seat outside of their car and admire the surroundings, called the Viewing Suite, just press a button and a pair of rear-facing seats, nicely arranged either side of a retractable cocktail table, slide out.

The new Recreation Module is actually a motorized drawer that fits nearly invisibly into the Cullinan’s luggage compartment floor, this module slides open electrically to reveal equipment, accessories, and paraphernalia personally selected by the customer, each item ensconced in its own individually tailored container, trimmed to match or contrast with the car’s interior or exterior.

The Recreation Module starts with 48 liters of space that can be configured by the customer, the options are nearly unlimited, as long as it fits inside the container that can be divided into various smaller sections, and more importantly, the entire Recreation Module can be removed from the Rolls Royce Cullinan and stored in the owner’s garage, this also offers the possibility to have different Recreation Modules to comply with various needs the customer might have.

For instance, if you want to offer a high-end hosting experience out in the wild, the Bespoke feature for Cullinan named the Hosting Service might be a good idea, it offers a range of accouterments to create the perfect beverage while enjoying the world’s most breathtaking vistas. Suited to hosting up to eight adults, the Hosting Service comes complete with glassware and utensils for creating a fresh cocktail or a classic gin and tonic for passengers. Elegant highball glasses are adorned with discreet Rolls-Royce monograms whilst wooden chopping boards are made of the highest quality American walnut. Additionally, space is provisioned for light snack service.

But there is also an Urban Photography Recreation Module, which comes with specialist equipment for professional photographers, which includes a DJI Mavic Mini drone, a 12.9-inch Apple iPad Pro, and a 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro for image capture and editing on location. The Bespoke Collective of Designers, Engineers, and Craftspeople also found room for Riccioni’s Sennheiser PXC550 MkII noise-canceling headphones, Persol PO3225-S sunglasses, and outerwear from streetwear brand Supreme.

It is clear Rolls Royce wants to create bespoke cars for their clients, this has been the case for decades, and in this case, the sky is really the limit when it comes to customization on this Recreation Module, whatever you would like to have stored elegantly in the rear of your Cullinan, Rolls Royce can accommodate it inside this tray for you.

Porsche WEC entry

Later this month the 2021 WEC, World Endurance Championship, will start with a prologue at the famous Spa Francorchamps track in Belgium (26-27 April) while the first actual race for points will be the 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps on May 1, but it won’t be until the 8 Hours of Partimão in Portugal before Porsche puts three drivers behind the wheel of their impressive 911 RSR.

Porsche wants to create a perfect synergy between these six drivers (three for each car entered) ahead of the 24 Hours of Lemans which was originally intended to be held on June 13 (which is now the date for the race at Partimão) but was postponed to August 21-22, and with this driver line-up, Porsche went for a proven setup, among them, these six drivers have 59 LeMans participations under their belt.

The Porsche 911 RSR starting number 91 will see French driver Frédéric Makowiecki join Gianmaria Bruni from Italy and Richard Lietz from Austria (the latter two being the pilots for the shorter races already) in Portugal to do a test run for the major event at LeMans in August, Makowiecki has been driving at LeMans for the last three consecutive years already.

The second Porsche 911 RSR, wearing number 92, driven by Neel Jani from Switzerland and Kévin Estre from France will see Michael Christensen from Denmark joining the team, he won the GTE-Pro class at LeMans back in 2018, Neel Jani won the overall classification of the 24-hour French classic in 2016 at the wheel of the Porsche 919 Hybrid, together with Romain Dumas (France) and Marc Lieb (Germany). His five teammates have harvested eight class victories so far with the 911 RSR at the tradition-steeped endurance race at the Sarthe.

The second round of the 2021 World Endurance Championship, held in Portugal, is a perfect opportunity to do a rehearsal run with three drivers in each car. An 8-hour race on the 4,692-kilometer circuit in Portugal’s Algarve is ideal to offer each driver ample track time at the wheel of the 515 hp Porsche 911 RSR to get things finetuned for the 89th running of the long-distance classic in France in August this year.

Doesn’t Get Greenier than This: Rimac Unveils New HQ with Gardens and Animal Farm

Rimac Automobili officially unveiled the designs of its upcoming state-of-the-art campus in Croatia including an on-site test track, museum and accommodation.

Rimac has grown to a global technology powerhouse in just a decade and is now looking forward to bringing people together in one place as the world transitions to an electric future. The complex is engineered and designed by Croatian architects, 3LHD and will be the international production base and R&D for creating prototypes and producing smaller volume projects to high-volume production of its battery system and high-performance electric drivetrain for car companies globally.

The company occupies a site of 200,000m2 and 100,000m2 built area and is located a few kilometers from Rimac’s current home. 3LHD has designed international projects including Riva Waterfront in Split and Hotel LN Garden in Guangzhou in China. The designers have collected inspiration from multiple sources including the curves and movements of the new Rimac flagship, the C_Two.

The complex will contain clever and unique features including urban swamp and meadows, rooftop garden and an on-site accommodation rather than traditional hotel style. A customization showroom, a museum with a bar and merchandise shop will also be available at the complex for customers to preview and experience. There is also a gym, game room, training centre, restaurant, kindergarten and an animal farm constructed and available for the employees wellbeing and learning.

Parking spaces for both employees and the public will be available as well as an auditorium, conference hall and an education room. The complex will be able to accommodate approximately 2,500 employees and substantial facilities for production. The site has been divided into two areas, HQ building and Greyp’s offices.

The production plant at the rear of the complex will house machining, components and vehicle assembly, battery production, composites production and paint shop. Rimac campus is one of the largest buildings in Europe, the investment for the construction will exceed 200 million euros and construction will start in 2021 and will be completed in 2023.

The new Jaguar F-TYPE R-Dynamic Black

For about a $10,000 premium, you can now order the new Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic Black version that further heightens the purity and presence of this sports car, this special edition is available on either the 300 hp four-cylinder or the more powerful 450 hp V8 model, and both in Coupé and Convertible.

The R-Dynamic Black edition comes with a Black exterior pack and stunning 20-inch wheels called ‘Style 5039’, these rims will not be available on other versions of the Jaguar F-Type to ensure exclusivity for the R-Dynamic Black version customers. To offset these glossy black wheels you can opt from three different metallic paints listed by Jaguar: Santorini Black, Eiger Grey, or Firenze Red

The Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic Black comes with a pair of 12-way adjustable, slimline Performance Climate seats, these will be upholstered with amazing looking Windsor leather, either in an Ebony tint with Light Oyster contrast stitching or a more sporty looking Mars with Flame Red stitching.

The same monogram design is used to emboss the suede cloth wrap for the 12.3-inch reconfigurable Interactive Driver Display, while other refinements include satin-finish aluminum gearshift paddles, an Ebony suede cloth headliner, and illuminated treadplates featuring the Jaguar script.

A Bronco 6×6 anyone?

Maxlider Brothers Customs, from Bloomington, IL, have made a name in the restoration game for the classic Ford Bronco from the Sixties, a highly sought-after off-roader these days, these cars are over 50 years old now, and many of them will require some serious restoration as they were rather prone to rust.

The Maxlider Brothers Customs will not only bring that classic Ford Bronco into the 21st century, but for the more discerning customer, they offer something rather impressive, a 4-door, stretched tub that seats 6 people, but retains the classic, Sixties look … for the 2019 SEMA show they built a Roush supercharged Coyote 5.0L 4-door early Bronco with a modern 6-speed transmission and tons of custom features.

The response was so overwhelming, Maxlider decided to add this 4-door option to their custom build lineup so customers can order this practical, classic-looking Ford Bronco, and while the SEMA show car came with the impressive Coyote engine and suicide doors, the customer version has traditionally hinged rear doors and a choice of engine options.

But with the new Ford Bronco becoming available, Maxlider Brothers Customs wants to take the 2021 model to the next level, you can already order either a two-door or a four-door version straight from Ford, but if you want to take your brand new Ford Bronco really over the top, and have about $399,000 to spend, you can get a 6×6 conversion done.

In the Ford Bronco option list from the factory, you’ll find an almost unlimited number of possibilities, but a third axle isn’t one of them, Maxlider will give you this option starting in 2022, but at the moment all we have to go on are renders by @innov8designlab that show a Ford Bronco with a longer rear section to accommodate the added wheels at the rear.

The render still shows a large spare wheel on the rear hatch, and a closed rear bed, the Maxlider Bronco 6×6 isn’t a pickup style conversion like for instance, the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6X6, which comes in at $349,000, a full $50,000 less than the Bronco 6×6, but the latter will be able to seat people in the back I guess, or it just might be more luggage space, that remains to be seen once we get to inspect a real one.

For now, there isn’t a single Bronco 6×6 built at Maxlider, and there isn’t any information on power upgrades for the engine either, but it unlikely there won’t be an increase in power to offset the additional weight and drag from the extra wheels, we also wonder if the two additional wheels at the rear will be powered or not, remember some 6-wheel conversions are actually a 6×4 technically, but as Maxlider calls this the Bronco 6×6 it would be expected all 6 wheels are powered.
