Audi A6 e-tron concept

Audi is giving us the four-door Audi A6 e-tron concept at the Auto Shanghai 2021 show as a preview of the future, fully electric luxury cars, taking their new “Premium Platform Electric,” or PPE for short, into production for new Audi cars on the horizon, for 2022, the first production cars using the PPE will be launched in the C-segment, later to be joined by models in the B-segment, and Audi also intends to extend their PPE platform to both SUVs and dynamically styled models with a lower ride height, such as the upcoming Audi A6 e-tron.

The Audi A6 e-tron concept to be shown at the Auto Shanghai 2021 show represents an entirely new design concept, the only thing it has in common with the current A6 are its dimensions, at 4.96-meter-long, 1.96-meter-wide, and 1.44-meter-high, the concept’s body was designed as a Sportback, and its lines are an obvious reflection of the systematic advancement of Audi’s current design language.

For its part, the PPE technology will ensure that what the car’s lines imply is actually translated into dynamic driving performance and everyday suitability befitting use as a primary vehicle. Specifically, this means that depending on the selected drive system and model version, an Audi A6 e-tron is expected to boast a range of more than 700 kilometers (based on the WLTP standard) in the future – and the most powerful member of the family is anticipated to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds.

Large 22-inch wheels and short overhangs, the flat cabin, and the wide coupe roof arch give the vehicle proportions distinctly reminiscent of a sports car. The absence of hard edges results in smooth transitions between convex and concave surfaces throughout the body, as well as in soft shadows. The Audi A6 e-tron concept appears monolithic, as if from a single mold, particularly when viewed from the side.

Heliosilver is the name of the technoid-looking color of the paint, which in turn adds aesthetic presence and functionality to the appearance of the Audi A6 e-tron concept. The paint accentuates the shapes of the body with a three-dimensional depth effect, which is particularly visible in the area around the quattro wheel arches. In the front end, the Singleframe grille, also in Heliosilver, forms a striking contrast to the deep matte black color of the frame. This stark contrast also accentuates the horizontally oriented proportions in the rocker panel sections on the sides of the vehicle.

The heart of the Audi A6 e-tron concept’s drive technology, and that of all future PPE models, is the 800-volt charging technology. Like the Audi e-tron GT before it, this ensures that the Audi A6 e-tron concept’s battery can be charged with up to 270 kW in a very short time at public DC fast-charging stations. This revolutionary technology will enter the high-volume mid-range and luxury segments with the PPE for the very first time.

This technology makes charging times possible that come close to a stop to refuel a car powered by a conventional engine. Just 10 minutes at a public DC fast charger are enough to charge the battery to a level sufficient to power the car more than 300 kilometers. And in less than 25 minutes at a public DC fast charger, you can charge the Audi A6 e-tron concept’s 100 kWh battery from 5 to 80 percent.

Together with an expected range of more than 700 kilometers, depending on the selected drive system and power output, the Audi A6 e-tron concept is uncompromisingly suitable for use as a primary vehicle. Furthermore, its range and charging speed keep pace with those of combustion engines, making it the perfect universal car for everyday needs, from short trips to the store to longer road trips when going on vacation.

Lamborghini sets records … again

While some companies are really struggling to stay afloat in the current economy, it seems Lamborghini managed to keep a really good pace in selling their amazing supercars from Sant’Agata, the first quarter of 2021 again set record figures never seen before since 1963, when Automobili Lamborghini SpA was founded.

Over a period of only 3 months, from January 2021 to March 2021, they managed to deliver a total of 2,422 cars to their fortunate owners, which is a record over their entire history, and while it’s a 25% increase over the same number from Q1 in 2020, it also a very impressive 22% higher than the same period back in 2019, which set the record two years ago … Lamborghini is on a roll here.

And it isn’t slowing down, Stephan Winkelmann, President, and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini SpA confirmed they already have the next nine months of production completely sold out, so for the entire production capacity for the rest of 2021 they are already fully booked as we speak, that’s impressive considering we are talking about cars that are well over the $200,000 mark each, with some more than triple that amount.

As we would expect, the Lamborghini Urus Super SUV is the best-selling Raging Bull at the moment, 1,382 units were sent out to customers, the V10 powered Huracán is not too far behind with 753 units while the aging flagship, the V12 Aventador still reached 287 units during the first quarter of 2021 … as usual the United States, China, and Germany are the markets that seem to be growing again.

And it seems the V12 Aventador reign isn’t over yet, despite being unveiled ten years ago, at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, we are still having to wait at least another year before a successor will be unveiled, Stephan Winkelmann mentioned in an earlier press release we are going to see two more V12 derived models later this year.

At the moment there is no official information yet on what these V12 models will be, but keeping in mind you can’t actually order any Aventador model anymore at this time, what might be on the horizon next for the Lamborghini flagship? You can’t walk into an authorized Lamborghini dealership right now and custom order an Aventador S or Aventador S Roadster anymore, they still have brand new cars in stock, and a very few are still incoming, but you can’t change the options on them, those are stock models. The same thing with the SVJ Coupe and SVJ Roadster … both were a limited edition model, and they are sold out.

The factory is apparently only building the Aventador SVJ, SVJ Roadster, and their ’63’ versions, the final units of the ‘one of ten’ Xago models, and naturally the remaining units of the 63 Sian Coupe while production of the 19 Sian Roadster will start soon … so what could be the two V12 based models that are still coming?

Rumor has it one of these will be a very limited production Countach homage model to celebrate the Countach Prototype’s 50th anniversary, based on the Aventador chassis and V12 engine, there is mention of a hybrid setup that will be an evolution of the Sian Supercapacitor, so perhaps a little more total power, with a price in the same range as the Sian. And what could be the second model then? An Aventador GT as a swansong to the model, an ultimate track-inspired model like the Huracan STO then, or perhaps a one-off like the SC20 for another high-net-worth customer?

Who knows, but it’s clear when you read between the lines of the Q1 results press release there is no intention of an Aventador successor in 2021 already, the current production capacity is already sold out, so they need the Aventador production line going until at least the end of this year, and they still have two more V12 models to unveil, which will also have to be built in the end, are these already sold out and calculated into production yet?

My guess is that we will be seeing the first Aventador successor in early 2022, probably the initial pre-production models of the successor will be built at the special Research & Development facility in Sant’Agata while the actual production line inside the factory gets converted from building the Aventador into the new model, which as we all know, will come with a Hybrid V12 initially … I for one can’t wait to see what Lamborghini comes up with next …

Porsche Taycan 4S – 9-Month Ownership Update

Hello again, everyone. It has been some time since my last post, where I provided a relatively thorough review of what it’s been like living with and owning a 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S in Canada.

To be frank, not a lot new has happened since that time; other than waiting for a brisk winter to thaw out, acquiring a couple of Taycan-related accessories, and a big software update for the car. The latter event sounds significant – and probably is in the grand scheme of things – but I wouldn’t go as far to say that it has transformed my personal experience with the car in any notable or measurable fashion. Perhaps to get the most out of the new upgrades, another excursion to the race track is in order…

I suppose there’s a silver lining that comes with the absence of having much to write (or rant) about, which would ultimately be a testament to the car’s lack of fuss and a nod to its inherent qualities. Plus, that leaves more time to write about other exciting things in the “T’s Corner” pipeline, of which details will be revealed in future posts :).

Now, more on this completely FREE software update (a big thanks again to Porsche Centre Calgary for the amazing service): it applies to 2020 model year cars, and in the most simplistic of terms, essentially updates it to a 2021 model. If you are a 2020 Taycan owner, you should have by now received a call from your dealership and been scheduled in for the service. Expect to drop off the car for the whole day.

Below is a list of what’s being updated:

“The update doesn’t affect range, but it does appear to boost performance slightly. In its press release, Porsche Cars North America noted “re-calibrated software for control units responsible for powertrain and suspension control, resulting in further improved driving dynamics and performance.”

The North American release didn’t mention specific numbers, but a European release said the Taycan Turbo S is now 0.2 second quicker from 0-124 mph, at 9.6 seconds.

The update also adds the SmartLift system from the 2021 Taycan, which automatically remembers locations where extra clearance is needed—such as speed bumps and steep driveways—and raises the adaptive air suspension when needed.

Also included is an upgraded navigation system with lane-specific information and in-depth traffic information, as well as Apple CarPlay. Customers with an Apple ID can access Apple Podcasts (including video streaming) and Apple Music lyrics. Cars equipped with ambient lighting can even change the lighting color based on what’s playing.

A Charging Planner lets drivers set the charge rate and what percentage the battery charges to. However, the update doesn’t enable Plug and Charge, which lets drivers simply plug in and charge and pay automatically through a pre-selected payment method. Porsche had to make hardware changes to the 2021 Taycan for that feature.

Customers also have the option for more Functions on Demand that can be added after the point of sale, either permanently or through a monthly subscription. The latest update adds active lane control and Porsche’s InnoDrive, which can take over the controls in some highway driving conditions, alongside the previously available Intelligent Range Manager.”

So in essence, the car is going to drive slightly better and have a more comprehensive serving of comfort and convenience features. I would’ve preferred more range over being able to listen to Apple Podcasts, but in the end being given free access to these updates mostly eliminates the FOMO that would’ve otherwise come with being an early adopter. It will be interesting to see how long Porsche will be extending free software updates and to what degree. Hopefully for as long as I own the vehicle, as this could only be good for resale value granted that the car’s hardware doesn’t significantly change for newer model years.

A glimpse into what servicing a Porsche EV looks like.

What else… oh yes, I installed some wheel spacers for use with the summer/track set of aftermarket Advan GT wheels I have on the car right now. Even though these wheels shared virtually all the same specs with the OEM 20″ wheel options for the Taycan, the rear wheels in particular, appeared to be a fair bit more sunken. 20mm H&R wheel spacers seem to do the trick (and 7mm in the fronts were added for good measure).

I also purchased a SeaSucker Talon Rack so I can lug my road bike around, while unwittingly creating a monument of the city’s latest emissions-fighting dynamic duo, in the process.

Carbon Fiber options for the Shelby GT500

I’m a big fan of clear carbon fiber on a car, and while I’m a Lamborghini guy, I don’t really like their Forged Composite lightweight material, it looks add, I’m old-fashioned, just give me a nice, old school carbon fiber weave with a satin or high gloss topcoat and I’m happy.

So when Ford Performance Parts released some amazing clear carbon fiber parts for the already impressive Mustang Shelby® GT500®, they got my attention, I rather like a GT500, I think it really is an impressive Ford Mustang, these amazing looking carbon fiber parts were shown at the GT500 track tour event at Texas International Speedway outside Dallas.

In total there are four carbon fiber parts being available now, a front hood vent and rain tray kit ($1,185), front lower spoiler replacement complete with undertray ($1,820), complemented by a stunning front bumper insert ($1,150) and a very nice rear decklid trim panel that fits between the taillights ($575).

“Authenticity and personalization are what our Mustang Shelby GT500 customers want, and our new carbon fiber performance accessories provide an elevated track-proven look from every angle,” said Mark Wilson, Ford North America vehicle personalization, planning, and operations manager. “Beyond leveraging this high-performance material to reduce weight, we track-tested and validated its durability at Ford Performance Racing School in North Carolina.”

Most of the carbon fiber parts achieve a reduction of almost 50% on the standard parts they replace, in total 9 pounds gets taken from the original weight of the GT500, these new parts provide additional authentic carbon fiber options for Shelby GT500 buyers to supplement the existing Shelby GT500 Carbon Fiber Track Package, which includes 20-inch carbon fiber wheels, an exposed carbon-fiber instrument panel and GT4 track wing, splitter wickers and more.

Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron: Full Electric SUVs Join e-tron Family

These are the new 2021 Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron – the first compact electric SUVs from Audi. The two models feature a range of three drive versions with a maximum output of 220kW.

For now, the 50 e-tron is the highest trim in the model range for both the SUV and SUV coupe, with a maximum output of 300hp, a 0-100km/h time of 6.2s and a top speed of 180km/h.

Both Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron share a zero local emission driving and high ranges and they can be charged in 10 minutes to a power sufficient enough to travel 130km. The two compact models consist of two battery variants and three drive variants and can be charged with different outputs using alternate current (AC) and direct current (DC) depending on the battery.

The compact battery can get up to 7.2kW with alternate current charging and up to 100kW when charged using high-power charging with direct current. The larger battery allows up to 11kW with alternate currents and 125kW with high-power charging as standard. An optional heat pump improves the efficiency for longer drives by using the waste heat from high-voltage modules and ambient air to control the climate in the interior.

There is an access to around 210,000 public charging points for Audi e-tron models in European countries, 4,400 of the charging stations are High-power, fast charging points. High-voltage batteries have been fitted between the axles of the Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron for a balanced distribution of weight and to ensure low center of gravity.

The exterior design of the two compact SUVs feature short-front overhangs, large wheels, flat A pillars, precise lines, optional Matrix LED headlights, daytime running lights, dynamic roofline and a spoiler on the split rear window for the Q4 Sportback e-tron.

A sport suspension that lowers the body by 15mm will be available for all Q4 e-tron versions upon request, eight colors and three trims i.e basic, advanced and S-line will also be available for both models.

The interior length of the models matches that of a full-size compact SUV with no center tunnel and features a large storage compartment, knee-room on the rear passenger seats, luggage compartment, advanced cockpit fitted towards the driver, inlays and accent surfaces for the instrument panel and a new steering wheel flattened at the top and bottom for the first time ( optional). Inlays with innovative technical fabric will be available on request.

A fully digital 10.25 inch display will be available as standard as well as three level infotainment and connectivity with three different modules i.e MM1 as standard, MM1 plus and MM1 Pro will be available on request. A Natural Voice Control with online functions will be available as an option.

The market launch for the two models will be in June 2021, and the base prices in Germany for the Q4 e-tron will be 41,000 Euro and 43,900 Euro for the Sportback.

The Continental GT V8 Equinox Edition

Before you get your hopes up about adding this stunning white Bentley Continental GT V8 Equinox Edition to your garage, there is one catch with this latest Mulliner Collections Portfolio addition … it’s only available on the Japanese market, and there will only be 10 units ever made for those lucky customers in the Far East.

The special GT will feature a monochrome color theme combining black, silver, and white, the Equinox theme brings power and grace through simplicity, the 10 units of the Equinox Edition are destined for homes across Japan including the cities of Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Nagoya, Hiroshima, and Yokohama.

For the body of the Bentley Continental GT V8 Equinox Edition, the Japanee customer can choose from black Onyx or icy cool Glacier White, the aerodynamics of the base Continental GT will receive the Styling Specification for these Equinox Edition versions, created from bespoke, high gloss, black carbon-fiber, the Styling Specification option adds a front splitter, a rear diffuser, a boot lip spoiler, and side sills, showing amazing looking, metal Bentley wings.

To set the Equinox Edition even more apart from the base V8 model, Mulliner adds a pinstripe to the edge of the carbon fiber pieces, finished in ‘Moonbeam’, which is a rich silver shade, this pinstripe is painted by hand onto each of these 10 limited edition cars, it takes a specialist at Mulliner a total of five days to apply this little, but important detail, that looks even better with the 22” Mulliner Driving Specification wheels, which on this special edition are finished in a dark metallic Tungsten paint, only available on the Equinox Edition.

The interior in the Equinox Edition is finished in stunning Beluga black leather, but it is complemented with silver parts on the headrest and the edges of the seats while the stitching is done in silver too to work in perfect harmony with the dual finish veneers done in Piano Moonbeam over Grand Black.

Sadly this car will not be available in the United States nor in Europe, it is a Japan-only special edition after all.

Audi’s Q4 E-Tron is an All-Electric Compact Crossover

Audi just unplugged and unveiled a new all-electric compact crossover. The forthcoming 2022 Q4 E-Tron will be available in 2 variants, including a fresh-looking fastback. Three trim levels will be available as well, with corresponding increases in power, from the 167 hp single motor version to the 295 hp AWD Quattro model. Mileage numbers range from 221 to north of 300. No word yet on the Q4’s USA on-sale date.

FOR SALE: 2019 McLaren Senna Drenched in Bespoke Options

One of the latest supercars to hit BringATrailer is an absolutely glorious 2019, McLaren Senna, finished in Liquid Silver – which happens to be a $97,566 option. 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS is Here, 750hp Version Announced Too

The new Mercedes EQS is the first all electric full luxury saloon from Mercedes-Benz. The first models to be released on the market will be EQS 450+ and EQS 580 4MATIC. The EQS 450+ model has an output of 328hp and 568nm of torque. EQS580 4MATIC generates 385kW, an equivalent of 516hp and a maximum torque of 855nm. Mercedes-EQ has also announced that a more powerful version will join the range in future, with a total output of 750hp. This should be the AMG version.

Mercedes is working on producing carbon-neutral cars within the next 20 years as part of their Ambition 2039. The company expects at least half of the cars they sell to feature electric drive systems including full-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids by 2030.

The new EQS is the most aerodynamic production car in the world and among the best in terms of quiet running, the vehicle also sets a good value for recuperation whereby it allows deceleration to a standstill without using the brakes. The EQS also features Intelligent energy recovery built with the aid of ECO Assist and functions with a foresight which takes traffic lights, topography among others into account, the driver can set three energy recovery levels via paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The EQS models features a range of up to 770km on a single charge. The RWD models are fitted with an electric motor at the rear axle whereas the models with 4MATIC have the electric motors on both axles.

The EQS can be charged with a quicker 200kW option at fast charging stations and charging for up to another 300km takes 15 minutes only. The energy from renewable energy sources is fed into the grid for charging current that is sourced via Mercedes Me Charge which can drive to a charging station, open flaps and plug in. Mercedes me charge networks are available in 31 countries with over 500,000 charging points including over 200,000 in Europe.

Mercedes also offers the EQS with four automatic comfort doors on request and the driver can open the rear doors remotely via MBUX.

The EQS features 350 sensors that monitor and record the functions of the car including distance, speed and acceleration, lighting, temperature and precipitation, seats positions, drivers eyes and passengers speech. Driving sounds determine the acceleration pedal position, precipitation or speed.

The interior of the vehicle features a 77 inch display screen with high-resolution matrix consisting of 1.3 million individual mirrors. There is a HEPA filter as part of Energizing Air Control that cleans the air inside the car at high filtration level and odours are neutralised using around 600g of activated charcoal. A pre-entry climate control option allows you to clean the air inside before entering the EQS for a drive.

In addition, the Burmester surround system consists of 15 speakers with a maximum output of 710watts. The MBUX hyperscreen on the other hand consists of up to 7 profiles with brightness control. The ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice control supports 27 languages and Drive pilot (optional) allows the car to drive up to 60km\h in conditionally automated mode.

The new BRABUS 500

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class isn’t a bad looking four-door luxury sedan, especially when you opt for the S500 model that comes with a 435 hp engine, but that doesn’t keep world-renowned BRABUS from tinkering with it to get more power and add some aerodynamic parts to this flagship model from Germany, keeping in mind BRABUS was actually voted the best and most popular tuning brand by the readers of Germany’s leading motorsport magazine: Auto Motor und Sport … for the 15th time in a row!

And while they build stunning, high-power supercars like their BRABUS ROCKET 900, not every owner is interested in the fastest, harshest riding Mercedes possible, some just want to add a touch of personality to their factory-fresh car, and that is exactly what BRABUS now offers for the S500 with their plug-and-play BRABUS B50 – 500 PowerXtra module, just integrate it into the factory electronics and you’ll get an additional 65 hp and 70 Nm of torque, the result is a total power output of 500hp.

The BRABUS B50 – 500 PowerXtra module makes the large Mercedes S500 reach 100 km/h from standstill in only 4.7 seconds, the top speed is however still limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), and there is even an option for the diesel-powered S400d, aptly called the BRABUS PowerXtra D40 performance kit, bringing the power output for this six-cylinder compression-ignition engine to a healthy 365 hp with 750 Nm of torque at as low as 2,500 rpm … this diesel takes only 5.2 seconds to reach 100 km/h.

And this is just the beginning, I’m sure BRABUS is already working on 750, 800, or even 900 hp versions for the new Mercedes S-Class range, but power and speed are really nice, but BRABUS is also known for their amazingly well designed aerodynamic add-on parts and elegantly designed custom wheels, and part of those are already available as you read this.

A newly designed BRABUS front spoiler not only looks good, but it also reduces front-axle lift while the surrounds on the side air intakes make this car look even more aggressive, add the LED side markers and we’ve got a winner, while we haven’t even discussed the new rear bumper inset yet, complete with absolutely stunning looking, black chromed tailpipes in that typical BRABUS design. A carbon-fiber rear wing is under development at the moment but will be available soon.

Forged BRABUS “PLATINUM EDITION” wheels have been custom made for the new Mercedes S-Class, these monoblock wheels are available in either 19, 20, or massive 21-inch version, the car on these photos comes with the BRABUS Monoblock M “PLATINUM EDITION” wheels, 9×21 on the front axle and size 10.5J21 at the rear with 265/35 ZR 21 and 305/30 ZR 21 tires respectively, sourced from either Continental, Pirelli, or YOKOHAMA. To get the stance just right on this large S-Class, the BRABUS Airmatic Sport Unit will lower the factory car by 25mm (1 inch) to offer both a sportier look and even more agile handling without compromising the outstanding ride comfort we all come to love from the big Mercedes model.

And the fun continues on the inside, while the factory does an amazing job on the interior of these S-Class, BRABUS lifts it to another level altogether, like a two-tone BRABUS fine leather interior created from soft and breathable leather in the contrasting colors porcelain and black. The leather treatment continues onto the dashboard and the center console. Attention to detail is shown on the pinpoint precision perforated seats and showing a stitching pattern to mimic the cube design of the center sections on the door panels. They even go as far as offering a BRABUS Signature Carbon, which was developed exclusively for the new S-Class.
