Parking Lot Looks Like a Car Meet: $30k/Month Apartments in Dubai

Dubai has positioned itself as a city of all things luxury, and supercars are littered around every corner. Some of the biggest supercar collectors reside here, permanently or just temporary for business reasons. Dubai’s architecture is unlike any other, here you will find some of the most expensive houses and apartments.

Ever wondered how parking lots in these luxury residences look like? Well, our colleague Martin happens to live in Bluewaters, a man-made island located off the coast of Jumeirah Beach Residence. He managed to snap a few photos from one of the parking lots. It’s not every day you find a Bugatti Chiron parked in an apartment building, but this specific building harbors some of the most expensive penthouses in Dubai.

Supercars in Dubai

From the photos we can see a McLaren Senna, an Aventador SVJ, two Mansory cars (a Cullinan and an Urus), a standard Cullinan, a GT2 RS and a Ford GT among others. A Huracan wrapped in Bitcoin livery is seen driving off at a distance. At certain lucky times, the parking lot can house up to 30 unique hypercars including LaFerraris, McLaren P1s, Porsche 918s and more.

You are probably wondering why someone would pay $30k a month rent while they could easily finance a home for the same rate, but there is a good reason for that. Being a man-made island, Bluewaters infrastructure is fixed and cannot be changed, one cannot simply decide to build a house here. Ready mansions go for around $6 million or more.

In this particular residence, rental rates range from about $6,000/month all the way to $30k/month for the penthouses. According to Martin, most residents are owners of these properties and therefore not renting.

McLaren dresses in Gulf livery, reveals 720S and F1 car in orange and blue

If you’re a Gulf livery fan, McLaren has your back this week. McLaren revealed a 720S Gulf livery creation, and a Gulf livery for its Formula One cars to run around in for the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix.

Starting with the road car, this Gulf livery is no sticker package. Mclaren’s MSO team spent 20 days painstakingly painting this design onto a 720S in an effort to make a callback to the McLaren F1 GTR raced by the Gulf GTC team. Both the blue and orange were perfectly matched, and the details are impressive. You’ll notice orange brake calipers, blue and orange interior stitching, Gulf logos on the headrests and side sills and an orange center stripe on the steering wheel with blue spokes.

McLaren worked directly with Gulf on this entire build, too, having just renewed the relationship between the companies last year — that deal makes Gulf the preferred oil and gasoline supplier for McLaren cars, and they’re filled with both from the factory. If you want a 720S that looks like this, McLaren says that “a limited number of customers will exclusively have the opportunity to have their McLaren supercars hand-painted by MSO in Gulf livery.” That means not many, so raise your hand if you want one.

As for the F1 cars, this Gulf livery is perhaps even more exciting. We never get to see the Gulf livery in F1, so McLaren’s one-off cars this year are going to be somewhat of a spectacle. Both Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris will race in this get-up while wearing matching racing suits and helmets. The cars look superb in photos, and we can’t wait to see them on track this coming weekend.

“This will be McLaren’s homage to Gulf’s celebrated race car design,” says McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown. “We’re enormous fans of brave and bold design, and the striking Gulf blue is among the most loved liveries in racing, a celebrated piece of culture which transcends the world of motorsport.”

The Zenvo TSR-S is back

The Zenvo Automotive TSR-S is a hypercar in every sense of the word, being the street-legal version of the TSR race car, the ‘Street’ version comes with a 5.8-liter twin-supercharged flat-plane V8 engine capable of delivering no less than 1,177bhp, add the lightweight carbon fiber body and state-of-the-art aerodynamics, and you end up with an extremely impressive hypercar as if that massive rear wing didn’t impress enough.

And we must discuss that rear wing a little further, it is called an active Centripetal wing … yes, I had to read that twice too, and I also took a look at the documentation on this wing. In fact, it’s simple, this patented rear wing moves … but not as you might expect, on this Zenvo TSR-S this wing moves on two axes, when the driver hits the brakes, this rear wing lifts up into the air and effectively becomes an air-brake, but when cornering at speed the wing tilts to increase downforce on the axle that needs it … and as an added bonus, it looks cool too.

Some figures perhaps? Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes a mere 2.8 seconds, in 6.8 seconds you’ll reach 200 km/h behind the steering wheel of the Zenvo TSR-S, and to keep you from getting overly confident of your driving capabilities, the top speed has been electronically limited … at 325 km/h, now that’s more than enough to get you into a heap of trouble with the arm of the law on the highway.

The engine, the aerodynamics, and the carbon fiber body are all produced in-house by Zenvo, even the gearbox is from their hand, and it’s not just any gearbox either, the Zenvo TSR-S comes with a hybrid variant of the 7-speed sequential gearbox with helical-cut dog gears, called a ‘Dual Gearbox’, the driver can switch between a rather comfortable gearbox for ‘Road use’, or go for a more intimidating, direct power-shift ‘Race’ setup when the opportunity presents itself, just by using a switch on the steering wheel.

Back in March 2020, Zenvo had an amazing looking white TSR-R ready to be shown to the world at the Geneva Motor Show, sadly the event was canceled, and the car never got its public unveiling, instead, the car was showcased during a private media event at Zenvo’s HQ in Præstø, Denmark. This was the first car ever to come with full fragmented carbon fiber wheels and a bespoke weave design to exposed carbon fiber body sections, fragmented carbon fiber is created by hand-cut and expertly layered fragments of carbon fiber to create a special finish, these wheels weigh about 15 kilograms less than their aluminum counterparts.

If you would like to add a Zenvo TSR-S to your garage, you might be in for a long wait, each of these hypercars made in Denmark will set you back at least €1,450,000 before options, and Zenvo is limiting the production of this street-legal race car to only 5 units per year to maintain exclusivity, Zenvo is working on a worldwide dealer network, in April 2021 the MOHR GROUP in Germany became an official Zenvo dealer, both the TS1 GT and the TSR-S will be shown in their 1,600 m2  space in Motorworld München, interesting is the fact both the TS1 GT and the TSR-S are homologated for Germany and Euro 6 compliant.

And now Zenvo is looking at the UK market, they have shipped the bright blue TSR-S to the UK to showcase their flagship model to both customers and brand followers during the 2021 Summer months, Zenvo hasn’t released a schedule yet as to where the TSR-R will be available for test drives during events and gatherings, but it seems many fans are waiting in line to get behind the wheel of this amazing hypercar, Zenvo is working on a global expansion plan, so it might not be too long before the Zenvo TSR-R crosses the Atlantic and puts down her wheels on US soil.

2006 Maserati MC12 For Sale – 1 of 50 Worldwide

A German dealer has just listed a McLaren MC12 for sale, 1 of 2 MC12s currently available from them with one being a road legal Stradale variant while the other is a Version Corse track only variant.

The MC12 Stradale shown here has only covered 658km from new and is finished in a Maserati special Mother-of-Pearl white and blue shades. This is currently the only road legal Maserati MC12 available for sale on the European open market, it has an asking price of 3 million Euros.

The Maserati MC12 was introduced in 2004 and built on same chassis as the Ferrari Enzo. The company had initially intended to build only 25 cars for homologation purposes but increased the number in 2005 by building an extra 25 units. They also built 14 track only variants known as Versione Corse.

Powering the MC12 Stradale is a 6.0L V12 naturally aspirated engine producing 621hp and 652nm of torque, sending power to the rear wheels via a 6-speed auto manual transmission. 0-62mph is achieved in 3.7s while the top speed is 205mph. The car has a removable targa top which cannot be stored in the car while driving as there is no space for it. Like most GT1 race cars of its era, there is no rear window on the MC12 Stradale, no reverse camera either as those were not yet a thing back in 2004.

Maserati MC12 Versione Corse

Also available from this dealer is an MC12 Version Corse, the only one finished in orange and has only covered 1490km. This one has an asking price of 2.9 million euros.

Most powerful Mercedes AMG GT in final testing

When you are interested in seeing some of the world’s most impressive and fast road cars on a track, a visit to the Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany, also known as ‘the Green Hell’ might be a great idea, this track is famous for being used as a testing ground by just about every car manufacturer, so the chance of seeing an upcoming car doing laps around this track is substantial, having the record for the fastest lap on the Nurburgring is also something many car builders like to brag about.

In 2020, Mercedes claimed a new Nurburgring lap record in the luxury four-door class, putting down a time of 7 minutes 23.009 seconds in a Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S, the current top of the line model in the GT series, with 630 hp, but the car they are now testing on this German track will put the 63 S to shame … the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT 73e will use the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, but add hybrid power into the mix, for a total power output of 804 hp (600 kilowatts) and a massive 1,001 Nm of torque.

Despite the additional weight of the electric motors and the batteries required for this hybrid setup, it is very likely the Mercedes-AMG GT 73e will set a new ‘Ring record’, perhaps that is what they were trying to achieve during these final testing when CarSpyMedia captured a mildly camouflaged prototype taking a stint on the Nurburgring … check out their video below:

Mercedes has been developing this ultra-high-performance variant of their AMG GT for a long time now, and we all expected the car would have been introduced already by now, but there isn’t an official statement yet, although the car was seen at the unveiling of the AMG Project One and the introduction of the 2021 edition Formula One car, we still don’t have any release date, nor pricing on what promises to be the fastest luxury four-door car Mercedes ever made.

Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, Tequipment and Classic divisions

Meeting personal customer wishes is an important part of the global offering from Porsche. The sports car manufacturer pursues this goal with its business divisions Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, Porsche Tequipment, and Porsche Classic. The company now plans to respond to the wishes and needs of its customers to an even greater extent with a new and significantly extended range of products and services.

This includes various options for the individualization of Porsche sports cars, turning them into unique one-offs. Porsche is extending the personalization options for individual components directly in the Car Configurator, and is supplementing its offering for new, used, and classic vehicles with a “Performance Parts” range. As part of its Co-Creation strategy, the sports car manufacturer is also offering a new interpretation of the legendary Sonderwunsch program of the late 70s and will make it possible to design individualized one-off cars in the future – co-created by the customer and realized professionally by Porsche.

The range of individualization options for new vehicles currently extends from personal customer consulting during the configuration process through to the realization of limited small series. Through Tequipment, Porsche also offers numerous accessory products and retrofit options for individual customer vehicles. In the area of classic vehicles, Porsche is currently focusing on spare parts supply and factory restorations. The Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer is now significantly extending its offering in all business areas.

“It is our goal to provide customers around the globe with even more accurately tailored and demand-based products within the context of classic, existing, and new cars, and to also offer a comprehensive range of individualization options,” says Alexander Fabig, Vice President Individualisation and Classic. “With the new offerings, we are responding to the great global demand for our products. Starting with new possibilities for individualization and personalization of individual components, through the additional range of Performance Parts, up to the realization of uniquely individualized sports cars, we have the right option for every customer.”

Simpler and more personal than ever before: individual enhancements

The Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur is successively expanding the range of products that can be individualized and personalized. Significantly more options will be available here in the future. Examples include various exterior wrap options, individual starting numbers, prints on the floor mats, illuminated door entry guards, and logo projectors in the vehicle doors. In addition, customers can choose to become designers themselves in the ordering process.

The personalization options include individual design elements such as colors, logos, lettering, and text. Using a digital application in the Porsche Car Configurator, it is possible to specify own designs for various items. For example, customers can have their own signature embossed on elements in the vehicle interior. The leather-covered cover on the center console is suitable for this, for example. The range is rounded off by personalized wraps and decals on selected exterior areas and individual paint finishes on the wheels.

New components for GT models and classic cars

Porsche will offer a large number of new components for new vehicles as well as used and classic cars under the name “Performance Parts”. The Porsche Tequipment range for new and used vehicles is aimed at drivers who are motorsport enthusiasts and amateur race drivers. Porsche Classic will offer new developments with a historical reference, components for performance enhancement, and also lifestyle products for both young and older classic cars. These will increase the performance of the classic vehicles or improve their everyday usability. With two show cars based on two first-generation Cayenne models, the Classic division is also providing a preview of possible additional individualization offerings with an outdoor and offroad focus.

Modern and classic sports cars as one-offs according to customer wishes

As part of its Co-Creation strategy, Porsche is now offering a new interpretation of its legendary Sonderwunsch program from the late 70s and will make it possible to design individualized one-off cars in the future – co-created by the customer and realized professionally by Porsche. The expansion of this offering is divided into the areas of Factory Commissioning for individual customer color and material wishes directly in production and subsequent Factory Re-Commissioning and Factory One-Off after vehicle delivery to the customer.

Whereas Factory Re-Commissioning is also aimed at implementation of individual col-ours and materials, the Factory One-Off is a systematic technical new development. Depending on the age of the vehicle in question, either the technical experts at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur or the specialists at Porsche Classic take care of the implementation.

About Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur and Porsche Tequipment

Across all model series, customers can currently choose from more than 700 Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur options. The demand for individualization is increasing all the time. The level of vehicle enhancement is particularly extensive in 25 percent of all 911 models delivered worldwide: they visit the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur work-shops at the parent plant in Zuffenhausen for exclusive re-commissioning.

Sonderwunsch one-offs and limited small series are also produced in the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. Current examples are the Porsche 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition and a limited 911 special model which was produced on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Porsche China. Porsche offers numerous accessory products and retrofit options via the Tequipment division. The overall range of initially around 150 parts has continuously grown to now include more than 500 Tequipment options.

About Porsche Classic

Porsche Classic is responsible for spare parts supply and factory restorations of all of the brand’s road-approved classic cars. The range extends from a selection of various accessories and technical literature through to classic spare part supply and new editions of spare parts that are no longer available. Every year around 100 classic vehicles from the Porsche 356 through to the 911 (Type 996) and Boxster (Type 986) pass through the Classic workshop for accident repairs and other repair work. Complete restorations are available for all cars prior to the 996 generation of the 911, the Boxster Type 986, and Carrera GT. The current spare parts range includes more than 60,000 items. This is supplemented each year by an average of 300 new issues of spare parts that are no longer available as well as new accessory, lifestyle, or performance-enhancing parts.

Porsche is also successively extending its international dealer and service network with the Porsche Classic Partner program. These are existing Porsche Centres with specific expertise in handling classic Porsche cars. The network currently comprises 76 locations, including four Porsche Classic Centres.

2022 Audi e-tron GT: An In-depth Look

Introduction

The 2022 Audi e-tron GT is the four-ringed company’s first entrant into the high-performance EV weight class. It looks to shake up a playing field which includes the likes of the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan, the latter of which it shares many of the same underpinnings. Specifically, the two cars – which were developed in tandem by the Volkswagen Auto Group – both utilize an identical 800-volt battery architecture, with dual electric motors and a two-speed transmission responsible for sending power to all four wheels.

In a visual context, I would be hard-pressed to refer to the duo as “twins” as they share very little else in common – other than perhaps their side profiles – thanks to the e-tron GT having distinctly Audi signatures throughout its design elements. The cars are also packaged very different, with Audi currently only offering their product in two distinct trims – e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT – which both come exclusively with all-wheel drive, whereas Porsche offers their base Taycan with a rear-wheel drive configuration, plus a myriad of other trims with the Cross Turismo models now available.

This isn’t the marque’s first EV model, as it joins up with a roster currently occupied by Audi’s e-tron SUVs. However, the e-tron GT does have the distinction of becoming the first fully-electric car to don the company’s legendary RS badge via the highest and most expensive trim level currently on offer. The base model e-tron GT predictably comes with less of the go-faster, stop-harder and look-sexier ingredients that are typically reserved for an RS model, but it does share the same 93.4 kWh battery with its more glamorous stablemate.

Audi has marketed the e-tron GT as a fully-electric grand tourer, as a opposed to a sports saloon EV like the Porsche Taycan. This sets clear expectations right away of what makes the e-tron GT an entirely unique offering – not quite as powerful (compared to the Turbo and Turbo S), a little less nimble and sharp in the handling department, slightly more utilitarian with extra cargo room and a typically impressive Audi-esque interior.

All e-tron GT models will be produced at Audi’s Neckarsulm factory in Germany – where the same can be said for the company’s flagship R8 – with the goal of rolling up to 10,000 units off the assembly line every year. This would be less than half of the number of Taycan models delivered world-wide in 2020, so the two cars certainly can’t be compared like-for-like in that regard. Audi has ultimately done a fantastic job at making the e-tron GT look and feel like one of its own, and allays the fear about it being merely a reupholstered Porsche Taycan – it truly is a legitimate and unique player in this rapidly growing segment.

Engine, Drivetrain & Performance

The entry-level e-tron GT  produces 469 hp, which can be boosted up to 523 hp when using launch control. This is good for 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 152 mph, making it most comparable to the Porsche Taycan 4S which ends up being a smidge quicker using the same measuring stick. Stepping up to the RS model will net you 590 hp with 637 hp available in overboost mode. This allows the RS e-tron GT to complete the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.3 seconds, which is slower than Tesla and Porsche’s quickest EV models by 1.3 seconds (Model S Plaid) and 0.8 seconds (Taycan Turbo S) respectively.

Aside from the statistically-driven performance figures, the cars also differ from their competitors in less black-and-white, yet just as meaningful ways. For one, Audi engineered the e-tron GT to deliver its power in a more linear and progressive fashion – much like an internal combustion car – as opposed to being the torque-monster that we’ve come to expect from most performance-oriented EVs. This feature will certainly sway buyers who desire a more traditional driving feel, and are less inclined to be amused by the gut-busting characteristics of the e-tron GT’s closest rivals. The e-tron GT also gets more usable battery capacity, managing to squeeze out 85 kWh – compared to the Taycan’s 83.7 kWh – from its 93.4 kWh lithium-ion energy source. On paper, this should translate to a bit more range, all other things being equal.

Ultimately, the e-tron GT was always going to share certain characteristics with its German cousin through its sharing of the same platform. Afterall, the two-speed transmission which was once exclusive to Zuffenhausen, allows for an optimal balance of performance and efficiency. The e-tron GT will drive a lot more like the Porsche than the Tesla – which is a good thing in my opinion – particularly as it pertains to what is referred to in the biz as “one pedal driving”. This is where the latter cars can almost be exclusively driven using only the accelerator as merely taking the foot off the pedal is sufficient to bring the car to a stop in most situations, making the brake pedal more of a luxury than a necessity. I’m not a fan of this, but apparently many people are.

Another similarity with the Taycan is the use of an artificial “engine” noise to replace the roar of the inline-6 or V8 which would otherwise be expected to power the car. Dubbed ‘e-tron sport sound’, this sci-fi-derived soundtrack gently wails through speakers placed both inside and outside of the car and varies based on throttle inputs and speeds. This is a standard feature on the RS and optional on the base model.

Battery & Range

As mentioned before, every e-tron GT model – including the RS – comes standard with a 93.4 kWh battery (of which 85 kWh is usable). On the entry-level e-tron GT, Audi has officially claimed up to 238 miles of driving range, putting it slightly higher than that of the Porsche Taycan 4s. We’re still waiting to hear the official word on how the RS will fare in the range department, although it is expected to fall short of the aforementioned due to the extra juice required to dole out all that extra horsepower.

With regards to charging, the e-tron GT is inline with other performance oriented EVs on the market today. It is able to get from 5% to 80% of its battery capacity in around 20-odd minutes using a standard 270 kW DC fast charger.  Last but not least, the advanced cooling system integrated into the 800-volt architecture allows for more repeatable performance than your typical Tesla as overheating issues are far less likely to interrupt your customary hoon sessions.

Chassis & Handling

Like the Taycan, you can expect the e-tron GT to be remarkably responsive and precise – particularly when had with four-wheel steering – but more like the typical Audi, it could feel rather numb at lower speeds. That’s not to say that the e-tron GT doesn’t go where you’re pointing it. Just don’t expect the same level of feedback and weight tantamount to that of the Porsches. Ultimately, Audi still got the handling duly on point, especially as it pertains to being a grand tourer; if anything it does have a bit more body roll than the Taycan, but probably not enough to notice unless you were to drive each car back-to-back on a race track.

The Audi e-tron GT comes standard with a three-chamber air suspension system which allows for the driver to optimize the car for a variety of driving situations ranging from daily city excursions to canyon runs or even track use. Whether comfort or stiffness is what you require at any given moment, the selectable suspension settings have you covered. The air suspension can also lift the car by up to 0.8″ so that speed bumps and curbs can be negotiated with less fanfare.

Brakes & Tires

Braking is a similar exercise with comparable outcomes to that of the Porsche Taycan. This means that any braking forces within 0.3G are achieved entirely by the electric motors, with pad-to-rotor contact a relatively rare occurrence within the confines of non-aggressive driving. Subsequently, the standard steel brakes should suffice for just about any situation on public roads while the optional carbon ceramics are there for anyone who likes playing the min-max game when it comes to stopping power. Brake regeneration can also be toggled using controls on the steering wheel.

Working with the suspension, the e-tron GT’s ride quality is incredibly compliant when driven on the 21″ wheels and even more so when equipped with smaller 19″ wheels. Audi has looked to Goodyear to provide the OE tires on the e-tron GT as it did for its electric SUVs, this time using specially-designed Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 tires.

Design, Cabin & Amenities

Exterior

For those who care to measure, the Audi e-tron GT further differentiates itself from the Taycan by being a tiny bit longer, slightly narrower and just a whisker taller than the Porsche. This hardly makes it a mini-van, comparatively speaking, as the e-tron GT strikes a sleek, aggressive and sporty silhouette nonetheless. The e-tron GT has Audi’s DNA chiseled (quite literally) all over it, and that extends well beyond the four-ringed emblem sitting center stage.

At the front, there’s that familiar looking grille (albeit solid) and distinctive headlight design which doesn’t deviate far from the family tree. It’s a lot busier than the Taycan’s minimalist, yet somehow more exotic fascia, but I reckon this is a welcome change for buyers from either faction who prefer that there be less in common between the two vehicles.  The e-tron GT has one of the most exceptional looking rear ends of any car on the market today, with a rear lightbar connecting the decidedly Audi-esque LED taillights. The rear diffuser is a lot more pronounced compared to the Taycan’s as well – it looks really good, and I’m sure it’s very functional too.

Carbon side mirrors and a full carbon roof are also options, and can also be had as part of the Carbon Black and Carbon Vorsprung packages for the RS variants. The e-tron GT also has its own unique selection of wheels, of which the pricier choices come with functional aero blades to improve help improve driving range. Manufacturer exclusive paint colors such as Tactical Green are also available to further differentiate your e-tron GT from any other car on the road.

Interior

If there is one thing that Audi is universally recognized for, it would be the quality and design of their interiors. For the e-tron GT, Audi has decided to follow the more traditional formula that has earned them this reputation rather than embark on something groundbreaking as might have been the expectation, with the e-tron GT being a new EV and all that jazz. This equates to a palatable balance of touchscreen elements and actual plastic buttons, with a 12.3″ digital instrument cluster and a 10.1″ infotainment screen surrounded by physical toggles for the likes of climate control, driving modes, heated seats, and so on.

The finishes and materials inside the cabin are that of Audi’s highest standards, with no shortage of available luxury and convenience offerings. This includes features such as ambient interior lighting, heads-up display, heated/ventilated front seats with massage, etc. The rear outboard seats provide ample legroom, but its headroom is less generous, and the middle seat is more courteous than comfortable.

Expect to see plenty of high-quality leather upholstering and metal accents, with a generous dose of Alcantara and carbon fiber coming standard in the RS. If a more vegan approach is desired, Audi offers leather-free artificial hides made from recycled plastic bottles and old fishing nets.

For driver assistance, forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking come standard while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and lane-departure warning w/ lane-keeping assist are available as options.

Thanks to its dimensions, the e-tron GT is the marginally more utilitarian option compared to the Taycan with its 405L of rear cargo space plus another 81L in the ‘frunk’. That makes for ample space for luggage behind the back seats and a few grocery bags stacked up front. Two adults will be a snug but comfortable fit in the back, but rear visibility could become an issue if this arrangement is frequent enough. The standard rear-view camera and optional 360 degree camera should alleviate much of those problems, though.

Pricing

The entry-level 2022 Audi e-tron GT (Premium Plus) starts at US$99,900, while the Prestige package will add another US$7,200 on top of that. Stepping up to the RS e-tron GT will take you up to US$139,900 before options. All models come standard with all-wheel drive and a 93.4 kWh battery.

Auto Express – 4.5/5

“The Audi e-tron GT is another worthy entry in the luxury electric car market. It’s just the right mix of the new and the familiar, and it has a fair degree of separation from the Taycan because it’s a more comfortable electric grand tourer.”

Our Thoughts

So, what is it really? A simple reskin of the Porsche Taycan or a performance-EV contender in its own right? I think Audi addresses that big elephant in the room with a level of assertiveness that would make both e-tron GT and Taycan owners just as happy as the other with their choices.

It really comes down to looks, and to a large degree what your preference is towards either a 4-door grand touring EV, or a Sports Saloon which happens to be fully-electric. Hint: The e-tron GT is the former, as it’s literally in the name (GT is indeed meant to be an abbreviation for “grand tourer”). Think of the e-tron GT more as the gentleman and the Taycan more as the rebel; the Porsche perpetually taunting you to push it harder, while the Audi is there to keep things more civil and reserved. So, if you are a performance junkie who seeks the fun-factor above all else, you will get your fix in the Taycan, but do note that this will also come at an extra cost.

That’s because Audi made sure to play to its much-proven strengths when it came to the e-tron GT, as revolutionary as the car already is and may yet turn out to be. Dependably handsome aesthetics which are deeply rooted to the company’s philosophy. A familiarly high-class interior built around delivering comfort and quality. Superb performance and the heritage of the RS badge. All of things are done right, and done the Audi way.

With the Taycan and the e-tron GT both existing in their own elements, the latter car can also set its sights – through unmuddied waters – on the Tesla Model S. While the range and top-end performance figures are lacking behind the California-made EV, there is no doubt that the Audi provides a recognizable and trustworthy package in its electric grand tourer – comfort, elegance, and dependability, while manifesting a non-violent genre of sportiness.

It certainly deserves to be in the mix with these EV heavyweights and is by far the most exciting new car Audi has produced in quite some time. We hope that this is a sign of things to come; a car like the e-tron GT is just begging for an Avant version too, don’t you think?

Tesla Model S Plaid Quicker than F8 Tributo and Huracan EVO at Laguna Seca

New images of the upcoming Tesla Model S Plaid/Plaid+ have emerged from Laguna Seca raceway as it undergoes its final testing phase. The images of the prototype have been accompanied by unconfirmed reports of a possible lap record of 1:30:XX minutes. This would make it faster that several supercars including the new Porsche 992 Turbo S, Ferrari F8 Tributo and the Lamborghini Huracan Evo.

The Model S Plaid is a 1,020hp super sedan with a 0-60mph time of 1.99s, and a 1/4 mile time of 9.23s at 155 mph. The top speed is 200mph. These figures will make it quicker than cars such as the McLaren 765LT and the Porsche 992 Turbo S. A Bugatti Chiron will complete the 1/4 mile in 9.4s albeit with a faster trap speed of 158mph.

The company says the Model S Plaid will be the quickest production car once its launched. Deliveries will begin in 2021 for the ‘regular’ Plaid version, while a long range Plaid+ version will be made available later in the year. This version will be priced from. $139,990

  Model S Plaid Model S Plaid+
Output: 1020hp 1100hp+
Range 390 miles 520 miles
0-60mph 1.99s 1.8s
Top Speed 200mph 200mph
1/4 mile 9.23s @ 155mph
Price $112,990 $139,990

Pricing is quite enticing, $112,990 for a 1020hp super sedan with a 200mph top speed. This pricing aligns itself with the likes of a diesel S-Class, entry level Porsche 992, X5 M Competition just to name a few.

RUF at the Petersen Automotive Museum

I’m sure you know what RUF is, and what these three letters stand for in the world of Porsche tuning, in the Bavarian town of Pfaffenhausen, Alois Ruf Sr founded a company called AUTOR RUF back in 1939, when his son, Alois Ruf Jr took over the business in 1974, they released the first RUF modified Porsche, and things went only up from that moment.

Having the world’s fastest car is a thing many want to add to their Palmares, and RUF managed to do that twice already, both the RUF BTR and the RUF CTR were the “World’s Fastest Production Car”, and if you couldn’t really afford one of these stupendously fast, Porsche based RUF beauties, you could still get behind the wheel of these amazing cars … virtually, as they were part of the Gran Turismo video games. Today RUF has become a manufacturer, their current models, which include models like their CTR Anniversary and the SCR, are designed, engineered, and manufactured entirely by RUF using RUF parts including the chassis, engine, transmission, and even the body.

Renowned Porsche-themed event organizers Luftgekühlt have partnered up with the famous Petersen Automotive Museum for a two-part exhibition, where the first part, that’s to open on May 15th, is called the “Pfaffenhausen Speed Shop, The RUF Gallery”, and it will showcase some of the more important RUF creations from as far back as the 1990 RUF CTR Yellowbird.

But “The Vault presented by Hagerty” at the Petersen Automotive Museum will also have a 2012 RUF CTR3 ClubSport, a 2007 RUF Turbo R Cabriolet, a 2016 RUF Turbo R Ltd, a 2016 RUF Ultimate, a 1994 RUF RCT EVO narrow body, a 1994 RUF RCT EVO wide body, and a 2015 RUF RT12R on display for visitors to admire.

“We are honored to be chosen for a dedicated exhibit at the Petersen,” said RUF Automobile Owner Alois Ruf. “From our beginnings in a small shop in Pfaffenhausen, Germany to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, we have only sought to bring joy through cars. We are grateful to both Luftgekühlt and the museum for helping us spread that joy.”

If you would like to visit these amazing RUF cars at the Petersen Automotive Museum you will have to purchase tickets in advance on their website, also note you will be required to wear a face mask and social distancing guidelines of at least six feet will be enforced to make sure you can visit this exhibition is all safety.
