Aston Martin’s Valkyrie has 1,160 hp and 664 lb-ft of Torque

A High-Revving Powerhouse

The Aston Martin Valkyrie final horsepower and torque numbers are in. The hybrid powertrain in the car features a Cosworth-built 65-degree naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 paired with a Rimac-sourced battery electric system. That powertrain is good for a whopping 1,160 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.

The battery electric system from Rimac produces 106 hp and 206 lb-ft of torque on its own. The Cosworth V12 supplies the rest of the power. Aston Martin worked with Red Bull Advanced Technologies on the car. It noted that its partnership produced the powertrain as it is. Aston lists the high-revving F1 cars of the 1990s as a key influence.

According to Aston, the gasoline engine’s maximum horsepower is reached at a screaming 11,100 rpm and peak torque comes at 7,000 rpm. From there, the electric power system can add to the power output. The electric power system and the engine don’t operate separately, though, they augment each other and work together for maximum efficiency and maximum performance.

More Than Just a Power Mill

The V12 engine and gearbox both work as structural elements of the vehicle. This helps keep weight down and provides superb structural rigidity. Through the use of this unique construction, Aston has removed the need for an additional subframe. This highly unique feature alone would make the car special.

Vice President & Special Vehicle Operations Officer, David King seemed confident the new car would not disappoint. He said:

Aston Martin Valkyrie is set to be the ultimate hypercar in the automotive world and these performance figures underline that statement. Red Bull Advanced Technologies, Cosworth, Rimac and Integral Powertrain Ltd. have been fantastic partners in the development of this powertrain, ensuring that we have already created a hybrid system that is emissions-compliant and ready to begin fitting to our first physical prototypes. I am, as I’m sure the rest of the world is, incredibly excited to see and hear the first of these cars on track.

The British automaker said the development will continue on the car. Aston is currently building the prototypes of the car. It will be interesting to see how this project continues to progress as things move forward.

Aston Martin Project ‘003’ Hypercar Confirmed

The Third Installment of the Valkyrie

Prepare yourself for the next Aston Martin hypercar dubbed the Project ‘003’. Sounding like some kind of MI6 code for a secret mission designated for James Bond, Aston Martin’s Project ‘003’ should be an amazing machine. According to the company, the hypercar will utilize mid-engine hypercar features and technology used on the Valkyrie.

The automaker says the car will arrive late 2021. When it does, Aston will build only 500 coupe examples globally. The company specifically says coupe examples, so that makes us think there’s a possibility of a convertible version of the car at some later point down the road.

The Project ‘003’ will be the company’s third try at a hypercar. It hit it out of the park with the Valkyrie, so this one will likely be a ringer, too. The details for the model are scarce, but Aston says the car will have a lightweight structure, which probably means a carbon fiber chassis.

The vehicle will also get a turbocharged hybrid powertrain. However, Aston neglected to mention what that powertrain would be in terms of size. We’re hoping for a turbocharged V8 hybrid powertrain that makes somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000 hp.

The car will be a road car. Aston said the vehicle will have “class-leading dynamics on both road and track.” Aston noted in its press release that special attention is being given to making the car more practical for road use, including some luggage space. Both left and right-hand drive versions of the car will be made, and it will be sold around the world. We’ll update you with more info as we get it.

1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato

Iconic luxury British sportscar maker Aston Martin can brag about its robust lineup of vehicles as much as it wants — it has every right to. The company has created some of the most visually striking cars to date.

But we’re going back to where it all began — the DB4 GT. The manufacturer might not be what it is today without this landmark ride, a paragon of its signature style. Lucky for you, it’s up for sale. More specifically, it’s a 1961 DB4 GT Zagato owned by the family.

This vehicle is one of only 19 Aston Martin DB4 GTs with the Zagato coach, and it’s also one of only seven cars to have a left-hand drive system. The ride was built for Elio Zagato, son of the Zagato brand’s founder. It came with a number of enhancements at the request of its owner, too.

As such, you’ll find on the dashboard tubular bumpers, an air-scooped bonnet, and a chrome script. Those and Carello headlights are only some of the few extra seen only on Elio Zagato’s DB4 GT.

The ride has had a modest history. It was raced in numerous Italian road and track events during his ownership. Then, in the middle of the ‘60s, it went to a new owner and received a new coat of paint, the current color you see above. Aston Martin expert Richard Williams eventually got a hold of the car, who promptly restored it as best as he could.

Now, you can be the new owner. Hit up Fiskens for more details.

Rapide E: Secrets of First All-Electric Aston Martin

The evolution of the inaugural all-electric car by Aston Martin, also known as the Rapide E, is advancing rapidly with confirmed specific technicalities for the 155-unit limited special edition. Aston Martin has collaborated with WAE (Williams Advanced Engineering), a leading organization in the EV (Electronic Vehicle) technology to initiate a new generation for the manufacturer’s powertrain technology. Further, the collaboration has come in handy to help overcome the technical challenges involved in the motors and battery system packaging.

The engineering team has strived to establish an effective cooling system for the motor and batteries to guarantee dependable performance. Carbon composite elements and lightweight alloys have been utilized to ensure that rigorous weight targets are observed.

Powering the Rapide E

An 800 volt with 65kWh build in capacity electrical battery design will be used to power the Rapide E. It will be fitted with 5600 lithium ion 18650 cylindrical cells which shall be firmly fixed in a designated battery pack. This will also house the fuel tank, gearbox, and the standard 6.0 liter V12.

The two electrical motors fixed at the rear are powered by this battery system which enables them to generate a connected output target of slightly over 610PS and an immense torque of 950Nm.  The WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure) estimates Rapid E’s scope target to be more than 200 miles. This car model can achieve an 1851, 2 miles per hour charging rate when using an ordinary 400V 50kW charger.

Still, its high voltage battery system can allow for up to 3101, 2 charging rate per hour while utilizing an 800V outlet and conveying more than 100kW. Aston Martin has designed the Rapid E to be a high-performance machine that can be utilized to enhance Milani Exotic Rentals services. Its estimated speed is 155mph complete with a 0-60mph sub-4.0sec time and a 50-70mph time of 15sec.

Absolute Performance

These figures, however, are not only limited to a partial window when the batteries are ultimately charged. Rather, the focus is towards an absolute performance on demand over a huge percentage of the battery charge window state, as would be the case from a traditional in-house combustion-engine vehicle.  This is inclusive of the ability to endure the day to day demands of redundant braking and solid acceleration, as well as the power to drive an entire Nürburgring lap without de-rating the battery.

The Rapid E underbody and exterior have been aerodynamically advanced and finished with modern designed aerodynamic wheels. According to the engineers, the car’s tires are designed to minimize cavity noise while conveying a reduced rolling resistance and a greater power capability. Further, the Rapid E is specially designed to accomplish greater aerodynamic levels, cooling performance, and frictional loss as compared to the Rapid S. This project seeks to improve and maintain the delivery, character, and feel of the Rapid S’s V12- engine.

Finally

The manufacturer will pay special attention to the tuning and evolution of the chassis and electric powertrain while focusing on software integration. Even though the Rapide E will be developed in low volumes, it is currently being exposed to strict Aston Martin’s protocols and a committed Williams Advanced Engineering team collaborating with the manufacturer’s team to ensure that its prototype adheres to the model’s laid down procedures.

Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Track Performance Pack and Options Confirmed

Customize Your Valkyrie Hypercar

Aston Martin’s extreme Valkyrie Hypercar finally had its options confirmed. In a press release, Aston discussed the new AMR Track Performance Pack and the entire list of options for the car. The company’s personalization service called Q by Aston Martin—the company’s nod to the 007 movies—offers special customization to the 150-unit road-going hypercars.

The AMR Track Performance Pack brings track enhancements to the road-legal version of the car. However, the addition of the track-only components will eliminate road legality. The pack should improve track lap times by eight percent, according to Aston Martin. With the AMR Track Performance Pack comes a more aerodynamic front clam, another set of all other exterior body panels,  titanium brakes, track-focused suspension, matte black magnesium performance wheels, and carbon-fiber aero-disk set.

Aston Martin also offers customers who buy the AMR Track Performance Pack their choice of three different AMR livery finishes. The liveries can also be further customized thanks to Q by Aston Martin.

Other Customization Options

If the AMR Performance Pack doesn’t sound worth it, customers can choose between four different Designer Specification themes. Each theme comes with its own color scheme. The colors include Slipstream Green, Liquid Petroleum, Ethanol Silver and Maximum Orange.

If none of the Designer Specification themes look good, customers can also choose to go the Ultimate Personalization programme route. This allows owners to work with Aston’s design team directly to craft the special one-of-a-kind design. Those customization options include the exterior and interior of the car.

The 150 Valkyrie models will all likely be a little different thanks to the numerous customization options for the car. Delivery of the vehicles should start this year. All of the cars have already been sold. The 25 Valkrie AMR Pro models that will come in addition to the standard car should come in 2020, and will have many of the same customization options.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition Revealed

Aston Martin have announced a collaboration with watch manufacturer Tag Heuer to offer a bespoke Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. The result is a murdered out DBS, limited to a collection of just 50 cars. Each example will receive Monaco Black Exterior paint and plenty of carbon fibre elements.

The two luxury brands have collaborated for the first time on a car; the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. Tag Heuer and Aston Martin were the two title sponsors of the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team. Tag Heuer pulled out for the upcoming season, and after Red Bull made the move from Renault to Honda power, yet the two companies appear to be closer than ever.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heur

Customers of the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition will get a 715 hp, 5.2 litre twin-turbocharger V12 GT car with performance enough to hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and a 211 mph top speed. They will also get a special Tag Heuer watch likely based upon the Carrera Heuer 01 Aston Martin Special Edition series.

Inside the special edition DBS, customers will find black leather and alcantara alongside forged carbon inserts and a contrasting red stitch. Naturally, the interior (as well as the front fender) is also plastered with Tag Heuer logos to ensure that you know the provenance of what you are driving!

There is no official word on pricing or availability at this time. We would suggest that you check with your local Aston Martin dealership for this information.

Aston Martin and TAG Heuer Team Up on Special Edition DBS Superleggera

Dark, Sinister, and Beautiful

When two high-end brands team up, you can bet that the results will be pretty wonderful, and that’s exactly the case with the TAG Heuer and Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. Luxury cars and luxury watches go and in hand. These two companies know this all too well.

The new DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition is a special, bespoke model that will also come with a limited-edition TAG Heuer watch with its purchase. The watch will likely be a Carrera Heuer 01 Aston Martin Special Edition or a similar model. The pair up of the two companies makes perfect sense. Both are involved in F1 racing, both companies appeal to the same customer base, and both offer beautiful, yet expensive machines.

[embedded content]

The DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition is painted in stunning Monaco Black. Carbon fiber accents give the model a little extra exterior visual flair and TAG Heuer logos feature on the fenders. The interior has a similar color scheme, with black interior, red contrast stitching, and TAG Heuer logos scattered throughout.

Under the DBS Superleggera’s goodly, muscular-looking hood lurks a 5.2-liter twin-turbocharged V-12. It produces a strong 715 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough thrust to launch the car from a standstill to 60 mph in a spritely 3.4 seconds. Need to go super fast in your DBS Superleggera? No worries. The car’s top speed is a mighty 211 mph.

Aston and TAG Heuer only plan to make 50 examples of the beastly, luxurious machine. The price of this super-limited-edition car has not been announced. Aston and TAG Heuer also haven’t said whether or not the car will come to the U.S. Until we get more information, keep our fingers crossed and look at the photos below and the videos above.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante – First Spy Shots

Spy shots for the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante have surfaced. Traditionally, Aston Martin is quite brazen about testing its Volante models in public. They carry little camouflage and, as a result, it is quite easy to get a flavour for what the car will look like once it hits the market.

The photos show that the DBS Superleggera will get a traditional soft-top, much the same as Aston Martin’s other Volante models. We expect it will debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2019, although that hasn’t yet been confirmed.

Design cues have been taken from the DB11 Volante. As the DBS sits higher in the market, it will get more aggressive aerodynamics with the front splitter, rear diffuser, active rear wing and bonnet vents all carried over from its Coupe counterpart.

Under the bonnet, the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante will share its engine with the Coupe. Its 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine produces 725 hp and 900 Nm of torque. Expect 100 km/h sprints to take just over 3.2 seconds and the top speed to be just shy of the 340 km/h the Coupe manages.

Next year will be extremely busy for Aston Martin. Following its IPO earlier this year, the company’s share price has deflated somewhat. There is optimism that this will increase and for 2019, the company appears to be preparing the launch of three models.

Alongside the DBS Superleggera Volante we are also expecting to see the Aston Martin DBX, Aston Martin’s take on a luxury cross-over. We are also expecting deliveries to start with the Aston Martin Valkyrie. We could also see a Volante version of the new Vantage, however, the rumour mill has been quiet recently on this front!

Anonymous Buyer Acquires Aston Martin Vanquish Tooling for $26 Million

With Aston Martin’s recent listing on the stock market, it seems certain that we will get to learn more secrets about how the company is run. As part of the company’s listing, it was required to produce an initial public offering prospectus. Buried in this 321 page document is confirmation that in June, Aston sold the tooling and design drawings for its Vanquish sportscar for a massive $26 million.

The Aston Martin Vanquish was replaced this year by the brand New Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. It is a car that has been getting rave reviews from those that have driven it. It seems that at least one person might wish to continue production of the outgoing Vanquish. They have acquired enough to effectively bring the Vanquish back from the dead!

There is no confirmation on who the purchaser might be although the sale also includes 18-months of support from Aston Martin Consulting.

It seems clear that someone is looking to continue production of the Aston Martin Vanquish. You don’t pay $26 million for the right to build a car just for prosperity. Among some of the likely candidates are Mansory and Ares Design, European tuning companies. We might also look at companies like Spyker and Gumpert who plan to introduce new vehicles and need a proven platform to do so.

Project Nemo Submersible by Triton X Aston Martin

Aston Martin, a brand that’s immediately recognizable for their luxurious performance automobiles. Alternatively, for pop culture fanatics like some of us, the English carmaker instantly stirs up fond memories of James Bond movies. That’s exactly why their latest tech foray alongside the forward-thinking experts from Triton—strangely oozes overtones that seem to have been inspired by the popular spy franchise.

Project Neptune is a very exclusive advanced submersible intended for personal use. It took us a while to get used to its unusual form factor, which seems to deviate from the familiar shape used by conventional models. However, we know that the design has undergone extensive testing to prove that it meets the hydrodynamic requirements set by the designers.

This state-of-the-art watercraft is built to withstand the immense pressures of depths up to 1,640 feet. Its cockpit can accommodate up to three passengers including the pilot. The submersible can be operated for an estimated time of eight hours with a cruising speed of up to 5 knots. Moreover, it comes with an unparalleled view of your surroundings courtesy of the familiar glass dome featured by some of the manufacturer’s other models.

Now that the technical side has been handled by Triton, Aston Martin steps inside to upgrade the level of luxury within the frame. A perfect blend of carbon fiber and hand-stitched leather embossed with the signature wings of its logo. We hope to see this watercraft make its big screen debut hopefully in the next Bond movie.

Cosworth briefly crows that Aston Valkyrie’s 6.5L V12 has record horsepower

It’s only natural that Cosworth would want the world to know that it’s building the world’s most powerful naturally-aspirated engine for the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Valkyrie AMR Pro. The timing of when the world should know about it, that’s at issue. Yesterday the English engine maker’s official Twitter account posted a picture of the barely-there coupe and the line, “We’re famous for breaking records and our latest engine, the Aston Martin Valkyrie 6.5-litre V12, will be the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated road engine with 1,130bhp.” Two tags accompanied the post, #Cosworth and #AstonMartinValkyrie. About 90 minutes later, the tweet disappeared.

The likely issue is that Cosworth got ahead of Aston Martin’s official confirmation of Valkyrie outputs, something we’re more used to from patent offices and Chinese model makers. The question is what output is Cosworth really talking about, and which car.

All of last year, however, various reports had the street-legal Valkyrie making 1,130 hp. A Road & Track report attributed “nearly 1,000 hp” coming from the NA V12, the remaining 130 from a kinetic energy recovery system working the front axle. Hence, we’re not sure if Cosworth’s talking about its own engine alone at 1,130 hp, or its engine with the KERS. But then there’s this: At the launch of the Valkyrie AMR Pro during the Geneva Motor Show this year, Aston Martin said the track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro would enjoy “a combined power output of more than 1100 bhp — more than the Valkyrie road car and a figure than comfortably exceeds the magic 1:1 power-to-weight ratio.”

The truth’s a mystery for now, which is just as Aston Martin would want it. If Cosworth’s engine really does make 1,130 hp on its own, that would be monstrous, and it would mean the automaker’s been playing a serious game of English understatement. Even if Cosworth included the hybrid help, however, an NA V12 with 1,000 ponies would take the crown. The only competition is the 6.5-liter V12 in the Ferrari 812 Superfast, and that’s 211 horses adrift. The quad-digit figures expected from Mercedes-AMG Project One and McLaren Speedtail require turbochargers, as does the just-teased V8 going into the Shelby Tuatara.

With the first of 150 Valkyrie road car deliveries scheduled for next year, we probably don’t have that much longer to wait to find out.

Aston Martin Vantage S – Spy Shots of Sportier Vantage Emerge

The standard Aston Martin Vantage is only just hitting dealership forecourts, yet it sees that Aston Martin are already working on a hotter version! These photos show a prototype testing last week at the Nurburgring. The only tell tale sign that something is different is the quad tailpipes which indicate more power!

The Aston Martin Vantage S is expected to follow the standard model. We expect that it will feature the same Mercedes-AMG deriver 4.0 litre V8 shared with the Mercedes-AMG GT. In it’s current guise, the V8 produces 510 hp, for the “S”, we expect a figure of around 550 hp.

The photos show a test mule, finished in a solid grey colour, which gets a new rear diffuser and a set of quad exhaust pipes. Aside from these changes, there doesn’t appear to be a whole lot different to the standard Vantage model.

Many are expecting Aston Martin to mate the 4.0 litre V8 with a manual gearbox in the Vantage S, something that Mercedes-AMG is yet to do. It is expected that the manual gearbox will be a seven-speed unit and that the engine will need bespoke parts and tuning.

It’s expected that Aston Martin will offer a hardcore AMR model which will also get the manual gearbox. Work on a V12 version of the Vantage has apparently stalled. Aston Martin’s CEO has been heard stating that while the engine bay of the Vantage was designed to closely replicate the DB11, the weight of the Aston Martin developed 5.2-litre V12 has stalled these plans.

So, with the standard Vantage, Vantage S, Vantage AMR and Vantage V12 a possibility, where would your money go?

1963 Aston Martin DP215

Monterey, California is the place to be on 24-25 August, if you want to witness the auction of a truly legendary race car–the 1963 Aston Martin DP215 Grand Touring Competition Prototype. One of four ever built, this is the first vehicle in history to officially break the 300 km/h (186 mph) barrier at the famous Le Mans competition.

Touted as the most significant one-off Works Aston Martin, the DP215 boasts a build quality that’s superior to virtually any other competition car of the period.

The stunner shown here has been painstakingly restored with the consultation of Tedd Cutting, the original designer. As a result, the vehicle comes in its glory-days condition, including the perfectly-shaped body crafted from high-strength Hiduminium alloy, original seats, and rebuilt Indianapolis Cooper-Aston 4.2L V8 engine paired with a sophisticated S532-type gearbox that contains over 1000 parts!

Looking toward a fresh start, this exceptional piece of Aston Martin racing heritage clocks in at only 300 miles on the odometer and is said to run as comfortable at 40 mph as it does at 180 mph-plus. Expected to fetch north of $20 Million.

Aston Martin Valkyrie could beat that new Nurburgring record, Red Bull F1 boss says

During last weekend’s Austrian Formula 1Grand Prix, Race Fans asked Red Bull F1 team principal Christian Horner about the Aston Martin Valkyrie. The question was whether the coming hypercar, a collaboration between Red Bull and title sponsor Aston Martin, could beat the stunning lap record around the Nürburgring just set by the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo. Horner’s answer: “I’m not sure a Formula 1 car could actually do it, but I think that the Valkyrie — certainly the track version of the Valkyrie — could be a contender.” That’s a qualified endorsement, but it still counts as support merely putting the Valkyrie AMR Pro in the conversation.

Let’s compare, shall we? The 919 Hybrid Evo is based on the 2017 World Endurance Championship-winning 919 Hybrid. Freed from motorsport regulations, Porsche Motorsport upgraded numerous performance bits. The 2.0-liter, turbocharged V-four-cylinder went from 500 hp to 720 hp. The two KERS units went from 400 hp to 440 hp. We don’t have a figure for downforce, but items like active aero, a larger front diffuser, optimized turning vanes, and larger rear wing increased downforce by 53 percent over the WEC car, at the same time being 66 percent more aero efficient. It weighs 849 kg dry, or 1,868 pounds because Porsche threw out everything that didn’t contribute to speed.

The Valkyrie specs we know of so far state a weight of 1,000 kilograms, or 2,200 pounds. Powering that is a custom, naturally aspirated, 6.5-liter AMR Cosworth V12 with more than 900 horsepower, augmented by a kinetic energy recovery system contributing around 230 hp. According to Autocar’s sources, the Valkyrie could generate up to 4,000 pounds of downforce at an aerodynamically-limited 225 miles per hour. That boggling number comes courtesy of Adrian Newey’s prowess at making changes such as openings between the front wheel arches and the cockpit that work the front wing harder. The two-seater coupe’s unrestricted top speed is 254 mph.

Note, though, that the Valkyrie AMR Pro will be more powerful, lighter, and could have even more downforce. And since Aston Martin and Newey continue to work on the hypercar, specs could get even better before deliveries begin. Right now, Horner’s suggestion doesn’t seem all that outrageous.

We’ll also wait to see if the Mercedes-AMG Project One pokes its nose in the ring, too. Not long ago, AMG chief Tobias Moers said it’s “reasonable to speculate” the F1-inspired hypercar could claim an absolute lap record around the ‘Ring. But that was before Porsche went ahead and did it. Even if Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG don’t put up an official challenge, we’ll probably get an idea of what’s possible when the FIA’s new “Hypercar” class begins racing in 2021.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera

Coming as a replacement to the Vanquish S and taking the best design cues from the Vantage and DB11, Aston Martin’s DBS Superleggera is a glorious mashup of luxury and outrageous power.

With a body made entirely from extruded aluminum covered, the Superleggera (superlight in Italian) weighs just under 1,700kg (72kg lighter than the DB11) and sports pumped-up, aggressive features including a full-height grille, wider rear haunches, plus a double diffuser & a larger fixed aeroblade at the back.

Powering the handsome monster is a 725hp 5.2L V12 with two turbos, good for a ferociously fast 0-62mph time in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 211 mph. The massive engine sends power through an eight-speed automatic gearbox to the rear wheels, while 410mm carbon ceramic brakes ensure a swift stop. Inside, bold shapes mix with premium materials such as leather, Alcantara, and chopped carbon fiber accents.

Aston Martin Rapide AMR

As it was to be expected, one of the most powerful sedans on the road will come from iconic British maker of luxury grand tourers and race cars, Aston Martin. Their recently-unveiled Rapide AMR will pack an upgraded 6.0L V12 engine with 580-hp, propelling the sporty vehicle from 0-60 in 4.2 sec, on its way to a top 205 mph.

The Rapide carries its name (“fast” in French) written all over its sexy, aerodynamic body. Lighter and sitting lower than the Rapide S, the new Aston Martin boasts a slew of carbon fiber parts including the aggressive front splitter, side sills, rear diffuser, spoiler, trunk lid, and hood with massive ventilation inserts.

Complete with 21-inch wheels with carbon-ceramic disc brakes and available in three new livery exclusive designs (including the limited edition lime-on-green model you see here), the Rapide AMR takes “the world’s most beautiful four-door luxury sports car” to a new level. Drops Q4 2018.

The Ultimate Guide to the 2018 Aston Martin V8 Vantage: Review, Price, Specs, Videos, Images, Performance & More

Introduction

One of the most anticipated sports cars of 2017 and the successor to its most successful model ever – the Aston Martin V8 Vantage was unveiled in late 2017 and – in a departure to the traditional launch photos of Astons in the past, where the car has been grey or green or even a burgundy, the Vantage arrived in striking, almost neon lime green.

This in a way signalled a departure for the brand; following on from reports of record profits for the brand in 2017, the confidence Aston Martin had at launch displayed in what it produced with the V8 Vantage: less part-sports part-touring car, more all-out sports car.

The car seems to have inherited some of the spirit of the ear-splitting track-only Vulcan übercar. That startling exterior accentuated the aggressive aerodynamic features in the bodywork, while demanding the attention of onlookers, guaranteeing their second glance.

With its new V8 Vantage, Aston Martin delivered a bold statement of intent.

Design, Styling & Interior

That purposeful intent is displayed on the car’s exterior, with a muscular stance that makes little effort to conceal the vast amount of aerodynamic work that Aston Martin has put into the car.

Aston has emphasised the dynamic direction it took with the new Vantage in its design, with overhangs front and rear kept to a minimum. Up front, the gaping Vulcan-inspired grille delivers air under the car to ensure the diffuser jutting out at the rear receives a continuous feed of clean air, while contributing to a system of fences that aid with engine cooling. This car is all style and substance.

Another example is the pair of gills in the Aston Martin’s flanks – while adding to the drama of the V8 Vantage’s looks, they also act to bleed air out from the front wheel arches. Combined with the front and rear diffusers and the upturned tail at the rear of the car, Aston Martin say the V8 Vantage produces a “significant amount” of downforce.

Inside, Aston Martin says it has continued the V8 Vantage’s focus by using sharp lines around the cockpit. Sitting in the Vantage, the impression is one of aggression, helped by the car’s high ‘waist’ and low roofline – though Aston says headroom is improved over the outgoing model thanks to a lower driving position.

The ‘unconventional’ styling direction Aston has taken with the Vantage has split opinion. We love it and look forward to seeing how it develops for the brand over the Vantage’s lifetime and beyond.

Performance

Power in the new Vantage comes courtesy of a Mercedes-Benz-sourced four-litre twin-turbo V8 mounted up front, which is good for 503bhp and 505 lb-ft of torque from 2000-5000rpm. Aston has finely tweaked the engine’s induction, exhaust and engine management systems in an effort to protect the character that its predecessor was so renowned for.

That power reaches the rear wheels via a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, with this green streak capable of reaching 60mph in just 3.6 seconds. Top speed for the V8 Vantage is 195mph.

For those seeking an even more engaging drive, there is thought to be a seven-speed manual in the pipeline for the V8 Vantage – though the wait for that could be at least a year. Once available, the Vantage will be the only car that pairs the M177 Mercedes-AMG engine with a manual ‘box.

The last-generation Vantage sports car gained a V12 engine later in its life, adding more grunt and character to the car, with the combination of massive engine in a tiny, pretty sports car being a winner for the brand. While not having written off the idea entirely for the new model, Aston Martin is keen not to allow a heavier power plant affect the handling and dynamics of this model.

The aggressive styling and bold choice of launch colours have piqued interest in the V8 Vantage, with both representing a step change for the brand.

That aggression is not merely skin deep, with the V8 Vantage’s performance stats as imposing as its visual impact – not to mention a crackly exhaust note that hints at a barely-contained fury.

With a bonded aluminium chassis harnessing the technology used in the bigger DB11, though with 70% being new for the Vantage and a solidly-mounted rear sub frame to enhance the driver’s connection, handling, rigidity and weight were all key considerations during the design of the V8 Vantage to ensure exquisite handling and balance.

But that doesn’t mean power took a back seat – 505 lb-ft is on tap from 2000-5000 rpm, with horsepower peaking at 503bhp at 6000rpm. When that twin-turbo V8 gets on song it can launch this 1529kg, two seat ballistic lemon from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and all the way on to 195mph.

Ride & Handling

With the V8 Vantage going up against the likes of the Porsche 911 GTS, engaging handling is a must. Thankfully, Aston Martin has prioritised this in the development of the V8 Vantage.

Power is managed by an electronic rear differential, which works with the car’s electronic stability control to send power to the wheel with the most grip.

The E-Diff also allows for adjustments at higher speeds, aiding stability and composition in a straight line or through the bends. Systems like Dynamic Torque Vectoring and Dynamic Stability Control also play a part in the V8 Vantage’s handling character, though by no means has Aston relied totally on electronics to “manufacture” a feel for the car.

The V8 Vantage boasts perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a low centre of gravity, thanks to its engine being mounted as far back and low down in the car’s body as can be allowed. The chassis uses the bonded aluminium structure techniques first seen on the DB11, though with the majority of components being completely new for the Vantage.

Pirelli P Zeros handle the sticky end of things, designed specifically for this car, while an Adaptive Damping System offers adjustability to three switchable modes: Sport, Sport Plus and Track.

Prices & Specs

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage will appear in US dealers in the second quarter of 2018 with prices starting around $149,995. The first deliveries will start around then – though at the end of 2017 (indeed, barely a week after it unveiled the car) Aston Martin revealed that order books for 2018 had already been filled, with waiting lists for 2019 already growing.

2018 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTE

Revealed by Aston Martin the same day as the Vantage road car, with the pair launched simultaneously at an event in London, the GTE takes the Vantage’s already prodigious track talents and turns everything up to eleven.

The addition of that massive rear wing, racing decals and enlarged carbon fibre front and rear splitters, plus broader side skirts and wider track, turn the Vantage from cool-but-compliant pet python into an angry venomous spitting cobra.

Bulges and gouges in the bonnet make the muscular underpinnings look like they’re bursting to get out of a thin yellow veneer of yellow bodywork.

Aston Martin’s engineers have lifted the road car’s dynamics to another level with the racer, while meeting FIA GTE class regulations. Power is raised to around 540hp, while a full-length flat floor and those splitters and wings add even more downforce, helping the Vantage GTE snake its way around endurance circuits across the world.

Aston Martin released a video shortly after the announcement of the GTE. Detailing some of the hardware beneath the skin of the racecar, including Ohlins suspension components and Alcon brakes designed specifically for the Vantage GTE, the video allows a behind the scenes look into the development abd testing of the road-going Vantage’s body building cousin.
