Everything You Need to Know About Raw Pet Food (and What to Ignore)

Raw food diets have been around for a long time, and the benefits they can offer cats and dogs speak for themselves. If you’re unfamiliar with what a raw food diet is, it’s basically a diet consisting of raw meat, uncooked fruits, and uncooked vegetables. You can feed your pet a raw food diet several ways, some of which are safer than others. Some people go the DIY route and make raw meals themselves, but a pre-made, complete and balanced diet from a trusted brand is best and safest.

Many veterinarians have noted the benefits of raw feeding. And some vets, including vet nutritionist Susan G. Wynn, DVM, DACVIM (Nutrition) endorse them because of what they’ve seen in the animals they’ve treated. “In my practice, the changes I saw in patients with skin allergies, arthritis, and GI disorders were dramatic and life-changing,” Wynn says.

As you can imagine, a number of rumors and myths surround raw pet food. But the majority of these claims are unsubstantiated — there’s not much concrete research behind them. So, to set the record straight, here are the most common myths about raw pet food, debunked.

cat sitting next to three flavors of instinct kibble bags

Jennifer Silverberg

Myth #1: Raw food is no better than kibble

Many pets prefer raw pet food to their kibble, and some studies suggest that it’s healthier. That said, you won’t know how your pet feels about raw pet food until you offer it. One way to do that: Add raw food as a topper to your pet’s dry food. Doing so can be a boon for your pet’s health. Research suggests that eating at least 20 percent raw food as a puppy results fewer skin and gastrointestinal problems in adulthood, according to Wynn.

Myth #2: Feeding your pet a raw food diet takes work

If you wanted to make all of your pet’s food from scratch, then yes, feeding a raw food diet would require a considerable amount of work and time. It’s very difficult to make raw pet food that provides complete and balanced nutrition. However, a pre-made raw diet like Instinct is complete and balanced, providing the right nutrients in the optimal amounts to best support your pet’s health. Its most advanced variety, Instinct Raw Longevity is crafted by pet nutrition scientists to give dogs and cats a longer, healthy life and is backed by more than ten years of research. With little to no effort on your end, food is on the table — or rather, in the bowl.

Jennifer Silverberg

Myth #3: There’s a high risk of contamination in raw food

Raw food can, in fact, be very safe to eat. Just like the food people eat, raw dog and cat food is all about quality and sourcing, so it’s important to know that your raw food is being handled properly. All frozen and freeze-dried raw food from Instinct undergoes High Pressure Processing, which ensures that it’s free of pathogenic bacteria, including salmonella, E. coli and listeria. HPP is 100% natural and has minimal to no effects on nutritional value, vitamins, or minerals, with no compromises on taste or color. Instinct also tests every batch before it ships, and provides clear instructions on how to store and serve it properly. The risks are low with a brand like Instinct, while the potential benefits of serving your pet raw food are immense.

Want to Buy a Sonos Speaker for Christmas? It Might Already Be Too Late

If you were thinking about buying a Sonos speaker or soundbar as a gift for somebody (or yourself) for the holidays, well, that ship might have already sailed. That’s because due to high demand and well-publicized production delays (for a lot of things, not just Sonos speakers), many Sonos speakers are backordered on its website. This means that if you order now, some might arrive right before Christmas, while others are already slated to arrive just after it.

The prime example of this is the Arc, Sonos’s flagship Dolby Atmos soundbar, which if you order now — in black — is scheduled to ship on December 31. That’s right, after Christmas. You can order the Arc in white and it’ll ship immediately, but the vast majority of people prefer a speaker or soundbar in black rather than white.

Other speakers that are already backordered on Sonos’s website include the Five, One SL and the Move — all are estimated to ship in the middle of December, which could cut it close if you want it to arrive before the holidays. The only speakers that aren’t backordered are the One, Roam and the company’s new Dolby Atmos soundbar, the Beam (Gen 2).

There are also a few refurbished options, which have the bonus of coming at a discount! The catch is that choice, and supply, are limited and they go very quickly. For the time being, only three things are still in stock:

You might be thinking, ‘I’ll just order one from Amazon or Best Buy,’ but Amazon’s and Best Buy’s stock of Sonos speakers are already dwindling. Plus there’s the fact that, specifically if you order from Amazon, it is going to charge you a king’s ransom. At the time of writing this article, Amazon is currently selling the Sonos Arc for $1,231 (an up-charge of $332), the the One SL for $268 (an up-charge of $68), and the Roam for $228 (an up-charge of $49). Incredible.

The bottom line: if you want to gift somebody a Sonos speaker or soundbar for the holidays, you should seriously think about ordering it now. The truth is, however, depending on the speaker or soundbar that you want to order, it might already be too late.

If you are committed to getting something Sonos-related, say for people who already have a Sonos speaker system, a great option to buy some accessories like covers, stands or mounts — those are all in stock.

The Next Groundbreaking EV Could Come from the Last Brand You’d Expect

Chrysler is a massive name in the American automotive industry. It fronted one of the Big Three until Fiat Chrysler merged with PSA to form Stellantis. But as a standalone car brand, Chrysler has fallen by the wayside. Customers have drifted toward Ram trucks and Jeep SUVs. Chrysler’s brand lineup has dwindled to the 10-year-old 300 sedan and the Pacifica minivan — a recipe for a sad, parent-centric social media presence.

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Many thought the Chrysler brand would not survive the merger. But it appears that Stellantis is poised to breathe new life into Chrysler as an electric car brand. Stellantis showed off a Chrysler Airflow electric vehicle during their Software Day presentation they described as “more than just a concept.” It looks reasonably close to being production-ready, perhaps by 2024. And while it’s not the sexiest EV we’ve seen — it seems kind of like a wonky Ford Mustang Mach E — it could have some game-changing features.

The Chrysler Airflow could pack up to 440 miles of range — enough juice to skip the Acela and get from Washington D.C. to Boston on a single charge — running on the STLA medium platform. That range exceeds any Tesla currently on the market; the Model S Long Range is rated for 405 miles. Only the Lucid Air gets more currently. And this wouldn’t be a six-figure luxury sedan for the super-rich with face-melting performance. It’s expected to be a mass-market crossover with 167 to 241 horsepower.

A production Airflow could also have new Stellantis Level 3 autonomous driving technology. Level 3 autonomy is conditional autonomy where the car can operate by itself conditionally — in a traffic jam on the highway, for instance — with the driver ready to intervene if needed.

Hypothetical promises are a long way from deliveries of a production car for Stellantis. But the next great challenge for EVs will be packaging their benefits into vehicles real people can use. A Chrysler crossover packing a ton of range for a relatively affordable price could be an exciting move in that direction.

Looking for even more great savings? Head over to Today’s Best Deals page to see all our top deals from today.

Oru Kayak made the idea of a folding kayak not only possible but the gold standard for city-bound boat rowers. The brand now offers four different sizes of sturdy-yet-collapsible kayaks, easily stored in small apartments and spaces. Unbox the backpack and use your best origami skills to put the boat together (according to our tester, it takes just one or two times to figure out how to put it together without the guidebook). Once you’ve opened it up and put it back together a few times, you’re a pro. And the kayak glides smoothly over lakes, rivers and oceans, so you can enjoy whatever body of water is closest to you.

The 10 Best New Food & Drink Products of the Year

This story is part of the GP100, our list of the 100 best new products of the year. Read the introduction to the series here, and stay tuned for more lists like it throughout the month.

The best new food and drink drops of the year stand out because they change how we think. Have you ever considered a frozen puck of coffee might be better than anything you could brew at home? Probably not, but it is. In the same vein: can canned wine be… not terrible? The answer is yes, apparently. And just when you think you’ve memorized all the pasta shapes at the grocery store, a James Beard Award-winning podcaster goes and makes a new one that beautifully delivers carbs and sauce to one’s face. Point is, it’s healthy to acknowledge your old opinion is no longer a good one, and this year’s best new food and drink releases epitomized that.

(from Detroit) hits the nail on the head in his 15-word review: I love how simple the text-to-order system is: here’s the coffee, how many bags? Boom.”

gp100 food and drink

Launched in the summer, Fellow Drops is not overly innovative: It’s an SMS service that pings you once or twice a week with a different coffee bean offer from a different roaster. The texts usually come on Tuesdays, and include an image of the coffee, a brief roaster bio and all the nerdy bean details one could need (growth elevation, preferred brew method, processing style, etc.). To order, you reply with the number of bags you want. A few days later the freshly roasted coffee (it’s roasted to order) is in your mailbox.

Perhaps just as importantly, Fellow’s text service reminds you that you need coffee before you run out, and is much harder to ignore — open rates for SMS-based marketing are near 100 percent, because who is really going to leave a “1” hovering over their text message app? At the end of the day, it’s a lot easier to leave the hunt for new and interesting coffee to professionals than it is to do the dirty work yourself. Making good coffee easier to come by is a feat, even if the solution was a consistent (but not too frequent) text from a company that makes rad coffee gear already.

The general consensus among professional chefs is that the Thermapen Mk4 from ThermoWorks is the best instant-read thermometer you can buy. But wait, this isn’t the Thermapen Mk4 — it’s its new-and-improved version, the Thermapen One. The Thermapen One puts the “instant” in “instant thermometer” by giving temperature readouts in one second, whereas its predecessor took between two to three seconds. Besides the speedier readings, the One retains everything that made the Mk4 popular — its auto-rotating display, motion-sensing sleep and wake mode and an IP67 waterproof rating. There’s also a smaller margin of error and a brighter backlight.

The world of instant coffee is changing. It’s not about freeze-dried coffee granules anymore (though some of them are pretty good nowadays). No, these days, we’re referring to anything that makes coffee in an instant as “instant coffee.” And one of the best instant coffees you can buy now is called Cometeer.

cometeer

Cometeer

The idea of Cometeer is simple enough. The company brews coffee, then immediately freezes it with liquid nitrogen. The frozen coffee, shaped like ice hockey pucks, are housed in Keurig-style aluminum pods (they’re fully recyclable!) that you can turn into hot coffee by either using a pod coffee brewer (please don’t) or popping the puck into a mug and melting and diluting it with hot water. In layman’s terms, it sounds simple, but the science behind it is way more complicated than an uncaffeinated mind might struggle to grasp — think terms like “water chemistry” and “extraction yield.”

Besides the science, Cometeer partners with an impressive roster of coffee roasters, which it continues to grow since its inception. From third-wave coffee pioneers — like George Howell and Counter Culture — to newer speciality roasters — like Go Get ‘Em Tiger and Bird Rock — Cometeer is making sure the coffee beans are just as high quality as the coffee science. We’ve found it a struggle to describe just how delicious these coffees are. “Wait, frozen coffee is good?,” is a typical response we get when we rave about Cometeer. But yes, it is really good, and you need to stock your freezer right now.

Don’t balk at canned wine. Especially when new producers, like Maker, which just rolled out nationwide distribution this year, are making wines that even master sommeliers would serve. The brand partners with small-production winemakers — particularly those that are minority and woman-led — to create 250 milliliter cans, the perfect size for a double serving (or generous single serving). The wines have zero added sugars and have as little added sulfur as possible. So the next time you host a dinner party, don’t be afraid to crack a couple of cold ones — wine, that is.

You know your standard pasta shapes: spaghetti, penne, rigatoni. In all the years that pasta has been, well, a thing, one would assume all the pasta shapes have already been invented. But in 2021, we were given a new pasta shape, courtesy of a famous food podcaster. Dan Pashman, of the James Beard Award-winning podcast Sporkful, spent three years in R&D to develop it. (The journey itself was documented the process in a five-episode Sporkful series called “Mission:ImPASTAble.”) That new shape is called cascatelli.

gp100 food and drink

Courtesy

Meaning “waterfalls” in Italian, cascatelli was developed to nail what Pashman called the three qualities of the perfect pasta: “forkability,” or the ease in which a fork can lift up a pasta, “sauceability,” or how well a pasta retains sauce and “toothsinkability,” or how satisfying its texture is. According to Pashman (and now us), it does nail each of those qualities.

Cascatelli is sort of like a combination of bucatini (because of its tunnel-like center) and mafalde (because of its ridged edges), Pashman’s two favorite pasta shapes. That longer cut? It makes it easier to stab. The ridges? This pasta is basically a vehicle for sauce. Now all you have to decide is what you’re going to eat with it.

Anyone who has eaten Cup Noodles before should thank Momofuku Ando. The man’s impact on the food industry expands beyond instant noodles — he’s the namesake behind David Chang’s massive food empire Momofuku. In expanding Momfuku’s pantry staples, Chang has added a line of instant noodles, and they’re better tasting (and better for you) than Cup Noodles (though no shade to the legend). Made in partnership with A-Sha, a Taiwanese noodle brand, Momofuku’s instant noodles are air-dried, while most other instant noodles are fried or frozen. And with flavors like Soy and Scallion and Spicy Soy, they taste like something you’d get from a Momofuku restaurant — but at around $2 a serving.

But those are the words of one of the world’s most visible chefs: David Chang. Back in the early pandemic days of yore, things got weird. We ran out of office chairs and toilet paper and our favorite whiskey brands started making hand sanitizer. While not the weirdest or most important of the bunch, David Chang’s profession of love to perhaps the most unloved appliance in kitchendom — the microwave — is worth memorializing. Then, less than a year later, Chang was attached to the launch of a microwave-specific cookware brand.

Anyday

Anyday sells a handful of frosted glass dishes with nice glass tops and fancy metal rims. They make microwaving feel more elegant than it’s known to be, and do so at the perfect moment, given most of the world is cooking and eating at home more than ever (still). Anyday is almost more of a PSA than a product; the company’s recipe collection is immense and — if you’re not accustomed to using the microwave for anything more than reheating leftovers and popcorn — eye-opening (the Chawanmushi is absurdly good). You will save time, you will learn the way of the microwave and you will impress visitors and onlookers alike. And while there are companies making more affordable versions of Anyday’s microwave cookware, none make cooking in the microwave feel like something worth considering.

Jack Daniel’s 10-Year Tennessee Whiskey

It’s time to take Jack Daniel’s seriously. Jack Daniel’s 10-Year Tennessee Whiskey is not the first premium, quality-focused whiskey the brand has released — its high-end single barrel line is especially good, if underappreciated — but it is its best.

From a business perspective, Jack Daniel’s (the brand) is in excellent shape — depending on what data you look at, it’s one of the three or four most popular whiskey labels in the world. But that reputation works against it with the premium whiskey shopper, many of whom view JD as a brand that makes cheap mixing whiskey first and foremost. The new and limited 10-year is unequivocal proof that the makers of Old No. 7 can do both, and it feels like the people behind it know it.

gp100 food and drink

Courtesy

For starters, the 10-year age statement is stamped on the center of the label, in gold, and takes up more real estate than everything but the “Jack Daniel’s” name above it. That focus is intentional — this whiskey is the first JD product to carry an age statement in more than 100 years. The 97-proof bottling point excellent as well — just high enough for a full-flavored sip but not so high as to burn out taste buds. If anything is evidence of Jack Daniel’s doing good whiskey right, it’s the delta between this bottle’s suggested retail price and the price it’s commanding in secondary markets — the bottle’s MSRP is a high-ish $70, but bottle hunters are paying three-times that online.

Coravin Sparkling

Wine Lifespan Enhancement: 4 weeks

Nearly ten years since Greg Lambrecht invented the tool to try wine without popping the cork, there is finally a solution to do the same with sparkling wine. The original Coravin, which works on all non-sparkling wines, works by inserting a tiny needle through the cork, allowing you to get a pour of wine without uncorking it. The device flushes argon gas into the bottle while wine comes out, which effectively creates a blanket that protects the wine in the bottle from oxygen that would come in otherwise (the need is small enough that the cork reseals naturally after removal).

The sparkling wine solution is similar, though does require some extra doing. You won’t be able to preserve the wine with the original cork — instead, Coravin’s solution is to use a temporary stopper that, in concert with the larger Corvain Sparkling tool, replaces the oxygen that slipped into the bottle at opening with carbon dioxide. The TL;DR: it keeps sparkling wine sparkling for four weeks after opening, which is massive for anyone who’s ever opened (but not finished) a good bottle of bubbly.

An oat milk IPA might sound a little odd at first. But when you realize that many New England-style IPAs use lactose, then the oat milk makes more sense. It can help fight climate change — oat milk is one of the least water-intensive milks there is. It can make beer’s most popular style enjoyable by all. And it can infuse energy into a style that had been feeling vapid and overdone in the last few years by combining it with another major trend outside the beer world.

Hazy-O! from Sam Calagione and Dogfish Head does all that and more. Arguably one of the biggest innovators of IPAs (continuous hopping and imperial IPAs were his doing), Calagione is trailblazing what could be the next path for America’s favorite hoppy brews. These hazy concoctions have brought more beer drinkers to craft breweries than anything else, so it was crucial that a next step for the style came along.

“Hazy-O! is unique in that the oat milk gives it a distinct silky-smooth mouthfeel that makes this beer drink like a 5.0 percent session IPA instead of the 7.1 percent bad boy that it actually is,” Calagione says.

While Calagione is not the first brewer to put oat milk in a beer (some smaller breweries have put the plant-based milk into stouts), Hazy-O! is the first nationally available oat milk NEIPA. This game-changer brewed with Elmhurst Oat Milk offers notes of mango, pineapple and citrus for a creamy mouthfeel akin to a creamsicle drink.

And if the success Dogfish Head has already seen this year with Hazy-O! (it’s been the number-two seller on-premise for the brewery) is a look into the future, we could be seeing oat milk replace lactose and other milk byproducts in craft beers moving forward.

Check Out This Million-Dollar Beast of an Off-Road Camper

Let’s face it: there are many cool camping vehicles out there. Some offer refined luxury; others deliver serious off-road capability. But few will match up on either front with the truly extravagant Rise 4×4 from German builder Stone Offroad Design, first spotted by New Atlas.

rise 4x4 offroad camper interior

SOD

rise 4x4 camper interior sleeping compartment

SOD

All-wheel drive camper vans are great, but the Rise 4×4 takes it a few steps further — using a Mercedes-built Unimog as the base vehicle in either 230-horsepower four-cylinder or 395 hp six-cylinder diesel form. SOD doesn’t mess with the stock Unimog components, which include a 4×4 system with dedicated off-road gears, locking front and rear differentials and raised intakes that permit almost four feet of water-fording. Need more proof how badass this thing is? The Rise 4×4 doesn’t just have a rear spare tire carrier; it has a rear spare tire carrier that can also carry an ATV.

You’d expect such an off-road beast to go utilitarian on the interior. But the Rise 4×4 has about as nice of an interior as you will find in a camping vehicle. The kitchen features a full-size refrigerator and freezer and a four-burner induction cooktop. The Rise 4×4 does have a wet bath…but it’s about the nicest wet bath one could imagine, with a rainfall shower and a floating vanity. The cabin sleeps four with a sleeper compartment above the cab and another bed that floats down above the dinette/lounge area. SOD provides heating, air conditioning and heated floors.

The Rise 4×4 offers a combination of capability and luxury that would make even an EarthRomer feel low rent. And the price tag — for the Europeans eligible to buy the Rise 4×4 — reflects that. SOD only lists the price for the six-cylinder model on its website. It comes out to €899,900 with VAT included. That converts to more than $1 million at the current exchange rate, which — even factoring in recent inflation — remains a staggering sum for an off-road camper.

Apple Watch Series 8: What We Know So Far

Apple only announced one new smartwatch this fall, the Apple Watch Series 7, which was a bit of a surprise as most expected to also get an updated Apple Watch SE. While that might’ve bit a little bit of a letdown at the time, the good news is that 2022 looks set to be the biggest year yet for the Apple Watch. According to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, the Cupertino giant is working on not two but three new Apple Watch models.

The three rumored Apple Watch models include

  • a new flagship (the Series 8)
  • an updated version of the SE
  • all-new rugged Apple Watch that’s designed for serious athletes

There isn’t a lot of details out there about each of these potential new Apple Watch models quite yet, but it’s expected that the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8 and next-gen SE will adopt the larger display and more-curved design of the Series 7. To keep the price down on the new SE, Apple will again likely omit some fancy features like the always-on display and some higher-end (like the electrical heart and a blood oxygen) sensors.

As for the all-new ruggedized Apple Watch, Gurman suggests that it could have the flat-edged design that was heavily rumored to be given to the Series 7 before it was announced. This same flat-edged design was given to the latest iPhone 13 models to make them more durable, and Apple could be set to do the same thing with a sport-focused Apple Watch. It’s also likely that this new Apple Watch will have a thicker case to make it more resistant to dings, scratches and other potential mishaps.

As for when these new Apple Watch models could be announced, it’s likely we’ll have to wait until next September (when Apple traditionally announced its new Apple Watch models).

How Much Smartphone Storage Do You Really Need?

When shopping for a smartphone — be it an iPhone or Android — one of the most important decisions you’ll make is how much storage capacity to configure it with. It’s a big deal because, along with the model of smartphone you actually buy, storage capacity can drastically impact price.

Let’s use the iPhone 13 as an example. Apple is currently selling the base model, which comes with 128GB of storage, for $799. You can get double that storage (to 256GB) for an extra $100, or quadruple the base storage (to 512GB) for an extra $400. This means that you can almost double the price of the iPhone 13 if you max out the storage.

Of course, the decision of how much storage to get is complicated by the fact that we’re in the golden age of cloud-based storage. By paying a few bucks a month, people can free up (or just back up) a lot of things (such as photos, videos and music) that normally take up a huge chuck of their smartphone’s internal storage. This means that, if you’re ok with storing things on the cloud, the amount of storage you have on your smartphone isn’t as important.

So it begs the question: how much internal storage does your smartphone actually need? Well, the answer really depends on you and how you plan on using your smartphone.

How often do you upgrade your smartphone?

Fact: new smartphones come with more base storage than old smartphones. For example, when Apple released the iPhone 8 in 2017, it increased the minimum base storage from 32GB to 64GB. And that was the base storage through 2020 and the iPhone 12. Then this year (2021), Apple increased the minimum base storage of the iPhone 13 to 128GB. If the trend continues, this means that the base storage of future iPhones will be 128GB at least for the next few years.

So if you’re somebody who gets a new smartphone every year (or every other year), the amount of storage capacity isn’t as important because the smartphone you currently have likely already has a lot of base storage (or you’re about to get a new smartphone with a lot of base storage).

However, if you don’t upgrade your smartphones for several years (which a lot of people do) it’s more problematic because older smartphones tend to have less base storage capacity. Throw in the fact that older smartphones have to deal with more software updates (which take up a lot of valuable storage space) and that smaller storage capacity tends to fill up real quick.

Basically, if you tend to to hold on a smartphone for several years, it’s more likely that you’re going to what more than the base storage option.

Do you download photos, videos, movies and music?

The three things that tend to take up a huge chuck of your smartphone’s internal storage are photos, videos, movies and music.

If you’re somebody who takes a lot of photos and videos — specifically high-resolution photos and videos, which take up a lot more space — and you don’t offload them to a cloud-based storage solution like Dropbox, Google Photos or IDrive, you’re going to want a smartphone with a higher storage capacity.

Streaming content — like music, movies and shows — is a little more complicated because it doesn’t affect your smartphone storage capacity unless you download them for offline streaming or watching. If you’re somebody who owns a lot music or movies, say you’ve ripped a lot of CDs and vinyl or bought a lot of movies or shows, those things are definitely going to take up a lot of storage space.

How much of your current smartphone’s internal storage are you using?

The real barometer of how smartphone storage you actually need is to go to your current smartphone and check how much internal storage you’re actually using. Here’s how to find out:

If you have an iPhone:

Open the Settings app > select “General” > select “[Device] Storage.”

If you have an Android:

• Open the Settings app > select “System” > select “Storage” > select “Device Storage.”

From this screen, you’ll see how much of your current smartphone’s storage you’re using as well as how much available storage you have left. If you’re maxed out (or close to maxing out), then your next smartphone should have more storage. If you’re not close to maxing it out, then getting the base storage option for your next smartphone is likely fine.

The Jeep Gladiator We Really Want May Not Arrive Until 2023

Last summer, Jeep launched the plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe — which we quickly discovered is the best version of SUV currently on sale. The multiple price hikes since suggest it’s been quite popular with everyone else, too. That success begs the question as to when Jeep will offer the 4xe powertrain — which provides an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque — on its Wrangler-based pickup, the Gladiator.

Well, if you were hoping to score a Gladiator 4xe next year, you might have to keep waiting.
Citing an FCA Stellantis source, Mopar Insiders claims the Gladiator will indeed receive the Wrangler’s 4xe powertrain —but Jeep will wait until the Gladiator undergoes a mid-cycle refresh, which will come in 2023 for the 2024 model year.

The report does not list any technical hurdles for including the 4xe powertrain in the Gladiator, so the delay may just come down to where Jeep needs to prioritize resources. Jeep sells more than twice as many Wranglers as Gladiators, so naturally, the Wrangler got the 4xe first. And the Grand Cherokee is Jeep’s best-selling car, so it makes sense for Jeep to roll out the 4xe trim for it (coming for 2022 on the all-new model). Jeep also has an important mid-cycle refresh to perform on the Wrangler — now facing formidable competition — for the 2023 model year.

That Mopar Insiders timeline would have a hybrid Gladiator arriving around the same time its prime competitors get one. The global Ford Ranger launched without a hybrid option. But the platform is planned for hybrids. And it’s conceivable the American Ranger could start with one in 2023 as a 2024 model year vehicle. Toyota will also debut the new Tacoma — which should almost definitely have a hybrid powertrain option — around the same time.

The James Brand Redstone Is Designed For All Adventure

The James Brand Redstone is more than just a beautiful piece of EDC in a compact and minimalist design. Its features make it adventure-ready especially with its sharp blade and ambidextrous grip.

This folder comes in two colorways: in a candy-like aesthetic for a more lively appeal and in a ruggedly dark silhouette. Yet both share the same high-quality structure that The James Brand is known for. They come in a one-piece chassis to minimize parts and keep dirt and grime out.

The James Brand Redstone is also easy to operate even with just one hand both opened and closed. An ambidextrous slide lock mechanism deploys the blade and also keeps it securely in place during usage. Meanwhile, a textured grip made with durable polypropylene scales makes a great pair for the partially serrated drop point blade so the knife can work for just about anything, from cutting, slicing, prepping, hiking, climbing, improvising, and more.

For portability, this pocketknife comes with the brand’s very first formed-wire pocket clip for a deep carry. An added lightweight paracord adds another transport option if you want to hang it to your bag, your pocket, or anywhere you want it within easy reach.

The James Brand Redstone is meant for easy and lightweight carry. Thus, the minimalist design and single chassis. It weighs just 50 grams with an overall length of 6.2 inches. It fits comfortably in the palm of your hands so you can work with ease. The blade is also just the right size for a simple task at just 2.5 inches. Meanwhile, a Sandvick 12C27 steel blade paired with the compact size makes it ready for all sorts of adventure.
