Pivot’s new, carbon-framed e-bike is so progressive it’s hard to encapsulate, but a couple of features really stand out. The 12 Best Camping Chairs of 2021

This buying guide provides information on the 12 best camping chairs available based on features like comfort, size, weight, ease of assembly, durability and price. It also offers suggestions on which chair to buy for different types of outings and environments.

More Great Camping Chairs

There are many styles of camping. Some people go off the grid in South America. Others park their van and camp wherever they can find a parking spot with a view. But no matter what, at the end of a long day of backpacking, fishing, hunting or even just swimming in the lake nearby, every camper likes to take a load off and the cold, hard ground won’t cut it. There’s a camp chair for everyone; collapsible seating ranges from heavy, relatively luxurious chairs you’ll need a car to tote around to ultralight chairs that can slot snugly into a backpack.

    Helinox Chair One

    Helinox Chair One

    Helinox backcountry.com

    $100.00

    Best Overall

If Helinox’s Chair One had been in the Three Bears’s cabin, Goldilocks’s choice would’ve been a cinch. It’s the camp chair that sets the standard for all four-legged adventure seats, with its lightweight fabric and aluminum construction. It weighs in at just over two pounds and offers a seating height of 11 inches, which is plenty of space between your rear and the cold, hard ground. Not only does it collapse to a size small enough to carry in a backpack, but the Chair One is also extremely easy to set up: its frame is made from one tent-style, shock-cord pole apparatus and the seat itself is one piece of ripstop polyester.

    Weight: 2 pounds 2 ounces
Materials: ripstop polyester, anodized DAC aluminum
    Seat Height: 11 inches
    Packed Dimensions: 3.5 x 4.5 x 13.5 inches
    Weight Capacity: 320 pounds

    Most Comfortable Camp Chair

Here it is, the Cadillac of camping chairs: the Stargaze Recliner Luxury. NEMO built its entire Stargaze line with comfort in mind — each one is a free-swinging seat suspended between a set of lightweight aluminum poles. The Luxury takes comfort to the max though, with a supportive headrest that’ll let you gaze into the depths of the Milky Way for hours without developing a crick in your neck. All that comfort comes at a price — the Stargaze Luxury is probably too heavy for longer treks and will take up plenty of space in your backpack, but it’s great for car and boat camping where you don’t have to worry about weight. It’s like a portable La-Z-Boy; don’t be surprised if you find yourself waking up in it in the morning.

    Weight: 6 pounds 5 ounces
    Materials: Water-resistant nylon mesh, aluminum

Even at its most affordable, the classic camp chair doesn’t have to be uncomfortable or feature-free. And while it isn’t lightweight enough to bring on a backpacking trip, REI’s wallet-friendly Camp X Chair packs plenty to like, from an integrated cup holder and pouch to a supportive fabric seat made of webbing and mesh. This chair also comes with a stuff sack for convenient packing and storage.

    Weight: 7 pounds 3 ounces

    Best Ultralight Camp Chair

Most self-affirmed ultralight backpackers wouldn’t even consider bringing along something so luxurious and unnecessary as a chair, but Therm-a-Rest’s Trekker Chair isn’t really a chair at all. It’s more of a sling that turns the sleeping pad that’s already in your pack into a chair. The Trekker Chair is made with 100 percent polyester ripstop fabric that protects your pad from abrasions while keeping it folded up on itself in an L shape that’s perfect for sitting at the end of a long day. It packs down small and only weighs 10 ounces — surely even a pure minimalist could find room in an outside pocket to tote this chair along on the trail.

The chair secures to the seat with a rotating L clamp and folds up for transportation much like a typical beach chair.

    Helinox Beach Chair

    $149.95

    Best Chair for the Beach

You can get away with bringing any of the camp chairs on this list to the beach, but if that’s where you plan to park your seat most of the time, it’s best to get a dedicated piece of packable furniture for that role. Beaches are different from campsites in one primary way: sand. Helinox’s Beach Chair has wider feet so that it won’t sink into it. It also has a higher back for lounging because, unlike camping, going to the beach isn’t about roughing it.

    Weight: 3 pounds 4 ounces
Materials: ripstop polyester, anodized DAC aluminum
    Seat Height: 6.5 inches
    Packed Dimensions: 5.5 x 18.5 x 4.5 inches

At the end of a long day of hiking, pull this loveseat out. $300.00

    Best Rugged Camp Chair

The Trailhead isn’t taking home any prizes for being lightweight or affordable; that’s never been Yeti’s focus. The brand’s second chair follows many of the cues of its first, the Hondo Base Camp Chair. It’s ultra-durable and uses the same high-tension fabric (which can support up to 500 pounds). It’s also sturdy with a frame that locks into place and extra-wide feet that won’t sink into soft ground. Unlike the folding Hondo, the Trailhead accordions into a tight bundle that fits into an included carry bag.

Minimalism and comfort combine in Hillsound’s BTR, a camping stool that packs down to a water bottle’s size. The stool comes in two sizes, both of which can support up to 240 pounds.

Land Rover Might Whip Up a Bronco Raptor-Fighting V8 Defender

It was only last month that Land Rover announced the incipient arrival of a new V8-powered Defender. That new ride packs a supercharged 518-horsepower V8 and some fancy performance upgrades — but notably, it doesn’t carry the “SV” badge that signifies a vehicle whipped up by Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations performance division. Now, a report suggests that might be for good reason: there may be an even more badass version of the V8 Defender coming.

Australian website CarSales recently asked Land Rover SVO head Michael van der Sande about faster versions of the Defender and other models. Van der Sane did not confirm any new product in the pipeline — but he did say that the company’s “purchase of Bowler last year was very intentional.”

Bowler, should you be unfamiliar, was a British carmaker specializing in producing off-road racing modified versions of Land Rovers, including the old-style Defender. It’s not hard to connect the dots there and figure that one reason JLR would buy them would be for the expertise to build something like a Ford Raptor-style off-road racing version of the new Defender.

And a V8 Defender SV would probably be a relatively low lift for cost-conscious Jaguar Land Rover. The vehicle already uses a version of the D7 platform that underpins a substantial portion of the lineup; Land Rover already has a tuned-up 557 hp version of the supercharged 5.0-liter V8; and there’s ample room to jack up the price and still undercut the Mercedes-AMG G63, which starts just above $156,000.

The appetite for outrageous off-roaders appears to be insatiable right now. Ram and Ford will soon have dueling 700-horsepower super trucks with prices nearing $100,000. The Wrangler is getting a Hemi V8. Ford has already teased what looks like a Baja-ready Bronco Raptor last fall. By the standards of our time, it would be weirder if Land Rover didn’t have something along those lines planned for the Defender.

iPhone 12 Not Charging Over MagSafe? Here’s the Fix

If you have an iPhone 12 and it suddenly stopped charging over MagSafe, you’re not alone. In fact, it happened to me this past weekend with my iPhone 12 Pro. I thought it might have been an issue with the MagSafe charger I was using, but no — it still worked with my iPhone 12 review unit and was able to wireless charge my AirPods Pro.

There are two potential reasons for this MagSafe charging issue. The first is that it could be an issue with the case, so try taking it off and try charging your Phone 12 over MagSafe directly. If that doesn’t work, the issue is likely related to your iPhone 12 itself.

But don’t panic. Fortunately, there appears to be bug with iOS 14 that disables wireless charging and can be easily fixed. All you have to do hard restart your iPhone 12.

How to hard restart your iPhone 12.

  1. Press and release the volume up button.
  2. Press and release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
    1. When your iPhone 12 boots back up, try charging it again — it worked for me. You should see the MagSafe animation as well as the charging icon in the upper-right corner of the display.

If that does not work, contact Apple Support.

Kia’s New Car Could Outgun Porsche, and It Could Debut March 15th

With its upcoming plans for a wide range of electric cars, Kia is swinging for the fences. The Korean carmaker has already announced plans to have 11 EVs for sale by 2026, and the first Kia vehicle on Hyundai Motor Group’s new E-GMP electric vehicle platform — also used with the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 — will be an crossover codenamed “CV.” And according to a new report, Kia could unveil the new car as soon as next week — and the drool-worthy specs of the high-end model might rival the Porsche Taycan.

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

According to ZDNet Korea, Kia will drop a teaser for the new vehicle on March 9th, with a reveal on March 15th. The codename “CV” won’t carry over to the model; instead, it will have a moniker that lands somewhere in the middle of an “EV[1-9]” alphanumeric naming system.

That date, if true, suggests the brand may be trying to get its flashy new EV into the public eye quickly. A Kia investor presentation from last December had the CV arriving in America at the LA Auto Show in May 2021; however, with that show postponed once again to November, it seems likely Kia may show it at a private event

The CV will reportedly offer a top-spec GT model, which should deliver impressive performance. The investor presentation suggested the carmaker is targeting a 0-62 mph time of 3.0 seconds, which would place it between the Porsche Taycan Turbo and the Taycan Turbo S. It will reportedly achieve a top speed of around 162 mph.

Kia’s new car should be equally beastly on the charging front. as we;; An 800-volt system should deliver up to 350kW of charging, allegedly allowing the vehicle to add 62 miles of range in just four minutes. Charging to 80 percent would take about 18 minutes. A total range of 500 km should translate to around 275 miles, give or take, in EPA testing.

Admittedly, Kia going up againt Porsche in terms of performance isn’t quite as crazy it sounds at first. Let’s not forget the Stinger GT is more powerful, faster and quicker than the base Panamera — and it starts for about half the price.

How Kia prices this vehicle will be an interesting question. The Taycan Turbo starts at $150,000. Even if the Kia CV GT cuts the cost significantly and comes in at $100,000. That would still be a $100,000 Kia. Kia’s brand reputation has markedly improved with recent successes like the Telluride. But that would be a stretch.

Prepare for Post-Pandemic Travel with Discounted Packing Organizers

Looking for even more great savings? Head over to Today’s Best Deals page to see all our top deals from today.

I had a friend growing up who, when we went to summer camp, would show up with all of his clothing for the week carefully folded and contained in separate, labeled Ziploc bags. We were at that merciless age of adolescence during which something like this was worthy of ridicule — caring too much about anything was decidedly uncool — and he was routinely gibed every morning as we prepped for each day. But year over year he stuck to his system, and I know why: packing organizers make life out of a suitcase so much easier.

In multi-day backpacking trips and full-on expeditions, separating different items into individual containers is essential not only for knowing where particular things are in a pinch but also for keeping clothing dry; organizers aren’t a matter of debate, they’re necessary. The consequences during casual trips are less dire but the benefits are the same: everything is easy to find, space inside luggage is maximized and clean clothing can be kept separate from the dirty.

One of our favorite collections of packing organizers, Eagle Creek’s Pack-It Specter Cube Set, comes in a variety of sizes for varying needs and is ultralight so as not to take up any additional space inside a bag. Currently, some colors of the three-piece set are on sale at Amazon for 48-percent off. Prep for that first post-pandemic trip now.

This Chronograph Watch Is Striking, but It’s What’s Inside That Makes It Special

One somewhat unexpected result of today’s vintage watch reissue trend: homages that aim to recreate even the movement that’s typically hidden behind the dial. The latest example is a fascinating new chronograph from Montblanc featuring a movement based on one that was originally developed for pocket watches in 1909.

The new Montblanc 1858 Monopusher Chronograph Origins Limited Edition 100 (say that five times fast) is based on a military chronograph from the 1930s that Montblanc keeps on display in its museum in Villeret, Switzerland. Villeret is the site of their movement manufacturing facilities acquired from the legendary watch-maker Minerva, who made the vintage chronograph in question; Minerva watches inform many of Montblanc’s modern collections, and these facilities offer high-end, in-house watchmaking capabilities for Montblanc.

At 46mm wide, the Minerva chronograph was giant for its time. The new Montblanc watch has the same diameter, but it’s not meant as an exact reissue, as it uses bronze — a metal that’s only recently come into vogue — as its case material. An “officer” (also called “hunter”) case back offers a hinged lid, which opens to reveal the MB M16.29 movement. It’s manually wound, so no automatic rotor obstructs the view of its 252 components.

    watch

    Courtesy

Montblanc describes its modern MB M16.29 as a handmade “authentic reconstruction” of the 1909 Minerva movement. It’s a “monopusher” chronograph. and it even runs at a rate of 2.5Hz, which is faithful to its inspiration, but uncommonly low for modern watches — most have a 4Hz frequency. Although once again produced as a horological curiosity today, monopusher chronographs are another throwback, offering a single button for the chronograph features (start, stop and reset) instead of today’s familiar two-button system.

Recreating an entire movement is a significant technical challenge, and this is why it’s interesting for brands like Montblanc to undertake it. A notable recent example of this approach was Omega’s reverse-engineering and reconstruction of its famous 321 movement used in astronauts’ Speedmaster watches. Watches like this will remain rare and expensive, but they represent the fascination enthusiasts have with both the technical and historical aspects of watches.

Only 100 examples of the Montblanc 1858 Monopusher Chronograph Origins Limited Edition 100 will be produced, and each will have a price of around $35,600.

Some of the Best Workout Shoes Are Nearly 50 Percent Off Right Now

Looking for even more great savings? Head over to Today’s Best Deals page to see all our top deals from today.

Ever since I got to test the Reebok Nano 9s in 2019, I’ve been obsessed. Its combo of features — including a breathable Flexweave upper, a bifurcated sole for easier running and a beefy midsole wrap for stability during big lifts — make it perfect for high-intensity routines, and I’ve been loving it for kettlebell-heavy home workouts lately. No wonder we named it one of the 10 best fitness products of 2019.

Since then, Reebok has followed up with the Nano X, featuring an even more breathable upper and run-friendly construction. And now, to make room for the upcoming Nano X1, the Nano X is nearly 50 percent off at JackRabbit.

The deal is on the vector navy/white/chartreuse colorway of the Nano X, which isn’t all that bad. They’re marked down to $70 from $130. The size run is still ok, but we’d imagine that will continue to get more limited. If you’re looking for a new gym shoe, you could do worse than snapping these up.

Help Save Nature by Entering to Win Your Perfect Camper Van

If you’re anything like us — and hey, you’re reading Gear Patrol right now, so odds are good we’ve got something in common — you’re likely itching to hit the road and blast off into the great outdoors. Part of this is probably feeling cooped up after a year of coronavirus-related isolation; part of that is likely just good old-fashioned spring fever. Regardless of the reasons, the end result is the same: a gas flare of wanderlust burning hot in your chest.

So if you can’t go exploring and sojourning the way you’d like just yet, why not express that side of you in a roundabout way: by helping support an organization that protects and maintains America’s wild lands and natural wonders?

In case you’ve never heard of them, Access Fund is a group that guards and attends to public lands and other wild places where climbers go to appreciate the world beneath their feet (and hands). And in order to help them keep climbing areas and the like, they’ve teamed up with Omaze and Vansmith on a sweepstakes that raises money by raffling off a damn sweet camper van.

In fact, if you win, you’ll have the chance to work with Vansmith to create the perfect camper van you’ve always wanted. The sweepstakes winner will score a four-wheel-drive Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cargo van, plus $80,000 worth of modifications from the Boulder, Colorado-based camper van maker. (Omaze covers the taxes, too, as well as the cost of either shipping the van to you or the cost of flying you to Boulder to grab your new ride.)

Vansmith’s own FAQ suggest that kind of money can get you a damn nice buildout, and as a quick glance through their previous builds will tell you, they can build you a gorgeous van set up for whatever your particular camping tastes may be — be it for weekend sojourns or long-term living.

Don’t wait to enter, though: this contest ends on May 28th.

5 Ways to Get The Most Out of the Dock on macOS

If you use a Mac computer then you’re well acquainted with the Dock. It’s the big menu bar located on the bottom of your screen where all your most-used apps live, such as Finder, Safari, Mail and Messages. It’s an incredibly useful tool, but it’s very important that you make sure it works best for you. That means customizing it.

You likely already know you can customize your Mac’s Dock. You can do things like add/remove applications or even move the position of the Dock on your screen. If so, consider this guide a refresher. But there are a few other tips and tricks you do so that the Dock works even better for you – so stick around.

    Add/Remove apps on the Dock

It’s really quite easy to add and remove apps from the Dock — and you’re going to want to do just that. There’s no point in having apps that you don’t take up space you Dock. It adds clutter and chaos, and won’t help you stay productive. Likewise, it’s important to add your most used apps so you can quickly access them.

To add an app that’s not there:

    1. Open the Finder app.
    2. Select Applications in the sidebar.
    3. Select the app that you want to add.
    4. Drag and drop on the Dock.
      1. To remove an app that you don’t use:

        1. Find the app on the Dock.
        2. Right-click on the app.
        3. Select Remove from Dock.
          1. mac dock

            Courtesy

            Add Folders to the Dock

You can also pin folders to the Dock so that they live right next to your apps. This will give you quick access to folders like your Download and Documents.

To add a folder to your Dock:

            1. Open the Finder app.
            2. Find the folder you want to add to the Dock.
            3. Drag and drop on the right side of the Dock, but left of the Trash.
              1. Make the icons larger or smaller

You might not like the size of the icons on your Dock. If you want them smaller or larger — no problem — and there are actually two ways to adjust this. The easiest way is to take your cursor and hover it over either of the horizontal dividing lines located in the Dock. When the cursor changes its shape to a double-sided arrow — click, hold and drag. If you drag it up, the icons will grow larger. If you drag down, the icons will shrink.

You can also do this through System Preferences.

                1. Open the System Preferences app (or find it by clicking the apple icon in the Menu Bar).
                2. Select the Dock & Menu Bar icon.
                3. Adjust using the Dock size slider.
                  1. mac dock settings

                    Courtesy

Move the Dock’s position on your screen

If you don’t want the Dock to be located on the bottom of your screen, you can change it so it rests vertically on either the left of right side of the screen.

                    1. Open the System Preferences app.
                    2. Select the Dock & Menu Bar icon.
                    3. Find the “Position on screen” and select the left, bottom or right option.
                      1. Make the Dock disappear

By default, the Dock sits at the bottom of your screen and the only way you can make it disappear (or hide it) is when you maximize a video or window. However, you can make it disappear every time you’re not hovering your cursor over it by just checking off a box in System Preferences.

                        1. Open the System Preferences app.
                        2. Select the Dock & Menu Bar icon.
                        3. Check the box that says “Automatically hide and show the Dock.”

                Campfire Coffee Mug Candle

Ford’s Cool New Compact Pickup Could Be Its Most Affordable Vehicle

It’s all but guaranteed that Ford will debut its all-new Maverick later this year, growing its vehicle lineup with the small pickup truck that should slot below the Ranger. And it seems the Maverick may end up being Ford’s most affordable vehicle, period.

Ford Authority is reporting that the starting MSRP for the Maverick will limbo under $20,000; Ford’s current cheapest vehicle, the EcoSport crossover, begins at $19,995.

Admittedly, we’re talking about a seriously-stripped-down truck at that price point. Ford Authority believes it would have two-wheel drive (likely front-wheel-drive, in fact) and could feature cost-saving measures like a naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine and a torsion beam rear suspension setup. Previous reporting has suggested Ford could also cut costs by offering a manual transmission on that base spec version.

On top of that, destination charges and fees would likely take the Maverick’s true base price north of $20,000. But that’s still cheap. And Ford would be running a vehicle that looks like a good-looking, four-door Ford truck against other manufacturers’ econoboxes — which would seemingly be a huge competitive advantage in today’s truck-obsessed market.

Of course, you’ll likely be able to spend way more than $20K if you want. Based on truck buying trends, we’re guessing most buyers will end up with a leveled-up all-wheel-drive version that should share features with the Ford Escape and Bronco Sport. We’ve also had reports Ford plans to offer the Maverick with a more rugged Timberline trim, akin to the offerings in the Explorer and Expedition SUVs. That would give the Maverick an upgraded suspension, Pirelli Scorpion all-terrain tires, blacked-out detailing and an upgraded front fascia to improve its off-road capabilities.

There’s No Better Time to Buy a Pair of Everlane Jeans

Looking for even more great savings? Head over to Today’s Best Deals page to see all our top deals from today.

Everlane’s lineup of blue jeans is one of the greenest out there. They’re made of an organic cotton blend that boasts four-way stretch and are made using 55 percent less water in the indigo-dyeing process compared to traditional denim. It’s not just the fabric that’s Earth-conscious, either.

The jeans are made in the LEED-certified Saitex factory in Vietnam which recycles 98 percent of its water, drastically reducing water consumption even further. The icing on the cake is that the jeans are literally air-dried to cut power usage. The cherry on top of said cake is that the power they use comes from solar panels.

Now that Everlane’s got a well-stocked spring sale going, its jeans have dropped from $68 down to $20 in some instances. The deal spans a full range of silhouettes from skinny to relaxed and even includes Everlane’s Summer Jean, a lightweight denim that’s loosely woven for full breathability. But don’t sit around for long because the denim deal won’t be around for long.
