Carry Your Work Docs In Style With The Hide & Drink Leather Envelope

We rarely carry paper documents these days what with the existence of USB drives. But in the instance that we do, we don’t have to resort to the traditional plastic or paper holders. Why not go stylish and use the Hide & Drink Leather Envelope.

Guaranteed durable and made with the finest quality leather, this leather portfolio holds most of your important work documents. It is large enough to fit a short-sized bond paper (8×11). The inside is smooth to make paper retrieval easy while the outside features a rustic appeal.

The Hide & Drink Leather Envelope is handmade in Guatemala using full-grain leather that develops its own patina over time. It comes from the top layer of the hide and features all the natural full grain characteristics of the hide. Thus its name.

Natural drab is first stained on the flesh side of the leather before finished off with the brand’s proprietary beeswax conditioner. This combination ensures the leather remains durable and retains its shape sans the need for synthetic stabilizers.

The company prides itself in creating fine-quality and durable leather products that they backed with a 101-year warranty.  The addition of neat and fine hand stitches from local artisans of Pastores, Guatemala further ensures durability. Any loose threads they pass over an open flame to prevent unraveling over time.

The Hide & Drink Leather Envelope does not just hold paper documents. It also doubles as a great pouch for your mobile tech gadgets like an iPad or iPad Pro or something smaller.

Normal Knob Creek Bourbon Is Good. This Knob Creek Bourbon Is Great

Welcome to Shelf Sleepers, our semi-regular guide to the best booze nobody is buying. This time: Knob Creek Single Barrel Select, a bourbon that demands attention (and a little patience).

Jim Beam’s whiskey roster is deep. Between Devil’s Cut, Black Extra-Aged, Double Barrel and the rest, there’s at least 10 different Jim Beam variants (excluding flavored whiskeys). If you take Jim Beam to mean Beam-Suntory, the parent company with whiskey holdings across the globe, you can add the Maker’s Mark catalog to the list and relative newcomer Legent, a bourbon with Japanese tendencies. Then there’s Beam’s Small Batch Collection, which includes the likes of Booker’s, Baker’s and Basil Hayden’s; each brand has a number of sub-expressions of its own. Then we arrive at Knob Creek, perhaps the Beam bourbon with the deepest bench of bottles. There’s the 9-year-0ld Small Batch and 12-year-old Small Batch, both of which are excellent, with the former earning our Best Overall Bourbon stamp. Then there’s the Small Batch Rye, Single Barrel Rye, Twice Barreled Rye, bourbon finished in smoked maple barrels, bourbon aged for 15 years and more limited edition bottles. Knob Creek Single Barrel Select is better than all of them.

For about $50, you get everything. It’s Knob Creek juice cut (barely) to a meaty 120 proof. It’s non-chill filtered, too, when makes it richer and fattier on the tongue. It carries the classic Beam peanut funk notes on the nose, taste and finish as well. But because it’s a single barrel product, there’s a chance your local store’s barrel has something special going on. All Single Barrel Select picks are aged a minimum of 9 years as well, which has become one of Beam’s calling cards since the company reinstated the 9-year age statement on its standard Small Batch offering.

Dive into any hobby headfirst and you’ll often find the path to understanding is circular. What you’re fond of initially is quickly dismissed once you’ve started researching, and you’re on to bigger and better (or just more expensive) things. In the bourbon world, this means trading out big-time brands and bottles that we can all find for limited releases or highly allocated bottles that make for better Instagram posts. A note from your future self: scoff at the Knob Creeks of the world all you want for now — you’ll be back.

The Ford F-150 Limited PowerBoost Hybrid Is, Remarkably, Worth Its $80,000 Price

2021 ford f 150 limited silver

Will Sabel Courtney

Eighty thousand dollars is a lot of money to spend on a car. Even here in 2021, with the average new vehicle transaction price hovering around $40,000, that’s a significant chunk of change — enough to buy a BMW M3 or Mercedes-AMG C63, a loaded Lexus GX 460 or Lincoln Aviator, even a Tesla Model S or a Porsche Taycan (well, almost). Hell, you can buy a pre-owned, well-maintained Ferrari 360 Spider for that kind of cash.

Or, alternatively, you can buy a half-ton pickup truck.

Yes, we’ve now reached the point where the iconic all-American pickup, the Ford F-Series, can ring up the register at (or even a tad above) $80,000. That is, at least, in top-trim F-150 Limited form, which sits atop the lineup for the folks who don’t find Platinum or King Ranch fancy enough.

Insane? At first blush, yeah. In an era where automotive loans commonly approach Rip Van Winkle nap timeframes, it’s easier for buyers to justify spending big bucks by spreading it out over many monthly payments — but even so, dropping eighty stacks is tough. As of this writing, the Ford website finance offer on the F-150 Limited currently consists of a down payment of $7,252, followed by $1,038 payments every month for 84 months.

But here’s the thing: while the idea of dropping luxury car money on a pickup seems crazy in theory…once you spend a little time in one of these regal rigs, it starts to feel almost logical. In fact, this new Ford is packed with all sorts of ingenious features that, combined with its immense inherent capability, arguably make it the vehicle most worthy of dropping $80K on here in 2021.

The F-150 Limited PowerBoost: Big truck, big name, big power

Opt for the F-150 Limited, and it’s guaranteed to come with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 under the hood; V8s and diesels and smaller-displacement six-pots are relegated to lesser models. You do, however, have the choice of having it in regular or electrically-assisted hybrid flavors. Choose the latter, and you’ll see your pony count rise from 400 to 430, and your torques go from 510 lb-ft to 570.

Even in spite of the F-150’s mass — it tips the scales at north of three tons on its best day — that power makes the truck feel spritely both off the line and even when accelerating at highway speeds, thanks to the fast-acting capability of the small electric motor smushed between V6 and 10-speed automatic. It feels very much like it’s capable of running a 0-60-mph dash in the low five-second range. Again, this is a pickup truck — and not a performance-oriented one like a Raptor or Ram 1500 TRX, but one meant for regular everyday use.

Plus, the electric motor is juicy enough to enable seamless stop-start and even bursts of electric-only driving when inching through. If Ford weren’t planning on using the Lightning name for its new F-150 EV, dropping this powerplant into a short-bed single-cab street truck would seem like a recipe for instant fun.

Oh, and don’t forget: while highway fuel economy may only be one mile-per-gallon better than the non-hybrid 3.5-liter EcoBoost F-150, city fuel economy is six mpg better — so if you drive in town a lot, you’ll see significant savings at the pump.

The F-150 Powerboost might be the most versatile hybrid on the market

The extra $1,900 for the Powerboost doesn’t just boost power under the hood, however. It also nets you the most powerful version of one of the 2021 F-150’s marquee features: the Pro Power Onboard integrated generator, which uses the truck’s powertrain to run any and all electrical devices up to its capacity and offers outlets integrated into the bed.

With the hybrid, that power limit sits at 7.2 kilowatts. That’s enough to put it on par with any number of high-end portable generators, most of which cost more than $1,000 on their own — enough power, in fact, to run a decent number of home appliances in a pinch. (Like, say, when a cold snap takes out the power grid.) Plus, since it uses a vehicular powertrain that you’re constantly running and maintaining, you don’t need to worry about your generator crapping out on you due to lack of maintenance when you need it most.

The F-150 Limited’s interior feels worthy of the hefty price tag

When I say “eighty thousand dollar car interior,” your mind probably jumps to something like a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or a BMW 7 Series — an elegant top-shelf sedan’s guts, redolent with wood trim and rich Corinthian leather that smells like the inside of a gentlemen’s club. Well, if that’s the level of your expectations, you may need to recalibrate…and not least because the nicer interiors on those cars only come when you spend closer to $100K these days.

Compared to the actual level of automotive luxury found at this price range, however — especially in the Big Three’s brands — the F-150 Limited’s interior seems quite acceptable. Hope you like Eifel 65, because you’ll be humming their 1998 earworm every time you climb inside; Admiral Blue leather bedecks just about everything inside, with most other trim color-matched to suit. Whether it’s your cup of tea or not, though, there’s no arguing with the fact that it looks nice in a distinctly American way (and, not coincidentally, a bit like the Lincoln Navigator‘s insides).

Fear no road trip when in the Limited’s captain’s chairs

If maximum long-haul comfort is what you look for in an automotive throne, the 2021 F-150 Limited’s front seats are worthy of, at the very least, podium contention. Thanks to 10-way adjustment — plus the fold-out wings for shoulder and neck support — there’s a comfortable position for just about every shape and size of human being.

Of course, even a comfortable seat can use a little help now and again. So the Limited’s seats also offer both heating and ventilation — the latter powerful enough to cool even the warmest butts. Add those to the F-150’s towering height that delivers a commanding view of the road and giant windows, and you have one spectacular way to see America while rolling along at 70 mph.

The cabin doubles as a mobile office…

In planning the F-150’s mid-cycle refresh, Ford discovered that many an owner uses their truck as a mobile workspace, so the Blue Oval added a few touches to help. The Interior Work Surface — a $165 option — is a lifesaver for anyone who’s ever needed a little extra room to spread out food or equipment in the cabin. Press a button to power the shift lever out of the way (obviously, this only works in Park) and flip the top of the center console forward, and boom — there’s enough room to spread out a laptop or paperwork (or, as many of us will probably use it, a smorgasbord from the Arby’s 2 for $6 Everyday Value Menu).

Staying charged and connected isn’t an issue, either. On-board wifi is available through the F-150’s built-in 4G LTE hotspot (though, of course, you have to pay for a subscription). Not only does this truck boast a plethora of USB ports, it also has a 110-volt three-prong outlet. And as a bonus: because of the 1.5-kWh lithium-ion battery that sits below the bed that supplements the gasoline motor, you can leave the truck on while you work without leaving the V6 idling (apart from the occasional brief burst where it turns on for a moment). Bottom line: never have I felt more productive while waiting in the car for a New York parking spot to go from off-limits to acceptable.

…and a business-class-worthy nap spot

Forgive the awkward picture, as I was force to prop my phone at an odd angle to grab the shot, but it gets the point across: the F-150’s $340 Max Recline Seats really do live up to their billing. At six-foot-four, I was able to stretch out my spine to its fullest and still have plenty of space — though, admittedly, that was with my legs dangling at the knee, a position that’s more conducive to power napping than a good night’s sleep. (That said, shorter folks could use the space to pass the night away.)

The Max Recline Seats — which, for the record, are only available on higher-trim trucks — do come with a caveat, though: not only do you have to opt for a crew cab to have them, but the rear seat needs to be empty in order to use them, as the benches have to fold upwards against the seat backs to make room. That means that anything in the rear seats needs to relocate, or else you ain’t reclining — and if it’s not something you feel comfortable leaving in the bed, it needs to squeeze onto the floor somewhere. (Luckily, the rear bench folds in two pieces, so you can leave one down if you only need room for one day bed.)

And this is only the tip of the iceberg. Other features I didn’t even mention: the fact that the F-150 can receive over-the-air updates, will offer Ford’s own Level 2 semi-autonomous self-driving system that lets the owner go hands-free on many highways, can tell you how much weight you’ve loaded into the bed, lets you adjust many features with a smartphone app, a trailer backup assistance system that makes reversing with an Airstream or other awkward attachment as easy as turning a dial, and more.

Oh, and let’s not forget that, on top of all that, this is still a crew-cab pickup truck, with S-Class-like legroom in both rows, more nooks and crannies to hold items than your grandmother’s five-piece sectional, a five-and-a-half-foot-long bed capable of hauling hundreds upon hundreds of pounds of gear, the ability to tow five tons or more, and a four-wheel-drive system with low range.

Yeah. $80,000 doesn’t sound like quite so much now, does it?

Ford’s Most Popular SUV Just Added a More Rugged Off-Road-Ready Version

When it comes to family SUVs, few enjoy the provenance and reputation of the Ford Explorer. It helped bring the idea of choosing a sport-ute for an everyday ride into the mainstream back in the 1990s, and has continued to sell in mighty numbers for the brand ever since.

Of course, the Blue Oval isn’t about to let this icon sit on its laurels. On Tuesday, Ford announced a new addition to the lineup: the Explorer Timberline. The brand is calling the vehicle its most off-road capable Explorer yet; Ford believes the Explorer Timberline will hit a “sweet spot” of “passenger space, moderate off-road capability and great manners around town.”

The Explorer Timberline scores several off-roading features standard. It comes with Ford’s intelligent four-wheel drive and a Torsen limited-slip differential in back, while the Terrain Management System features seven different drive modes. The Explorer Timberline boasts Hill Descent Control, steel skid plates for protection underneath and a front-rebound spring to eliminate off-road jarring. It alsos come with a tow package rated at 5,300 pounds — enough to lug an off-road camping trailer.

Shot_Laptop

ford delivers on promise to offer more rugged, off road capable suvs and trucks by introducing the new explorer timberline the first timberline series ford suv gives customers more capable off road features for memorable weekend adventures with family and friends

Ford

Ford is not giving the Explorer Timberline a lift kit, but the company says it rides 0.8 inches higher due to returned heavy-duty shocks from the Explorer Police Interceptor and Bridgestone Dueler all-terrain tires. The ground clearance stands at 8.7 inches, about a half-inch more than the standard Explorer (and equal to a Subaru Outback, though not the more off-road-focused Outback Wilderness). Unique front and rear fasciae provide 23.5-degree approach and 23.7-degree departure angles.

The Explorer Timberline also feature unique visual elements, including a Deep Cypress interior, blacked-out detailing and red tow hooks. In addition, Ford offers three different Outfitters packages featuring Yakima roof racks.

Overall, it seems like a smart play for the Blue Oval. Off-road and adventure-ready appearance and features are popular with SUV buyers these days; the Timberline trim cobbles together features that meet that need without Ford needing to put in a massive engineering lift. (Ford’s upcoming Maverick small pickup may get a similar Timberline trim too; in a call, the brand’s representatives did say that we should to expect to see additional Timberline vehicles rolling out in the future.)

Starting price for the Explorer Timberline will be $45,765, making it the most expensive trim with the four-cylinder engine. That’s also around $1,500 more than a fully-loaded Kia Telluride. Buyers can order an Explorer Timberline now, with deliveries slated to start later this summer.

One of the Craziest Watches on Earth Just Got Even Freakier

As if a watch that’s more or less inside-out and named “The Freak” weren’t already attention-grabbing enough…how about one covered in an intentionally confusing pattern? The newest watch in Ulysse Nardin’s historic Freak collection, called the Razzle Dazzle, features a mix of avant-guard design and exotic watchmaking that results in nothing if not a striking look — but there’s a lot going on behind all the complexity that first meets the eye.

The Freak is historically significant not only for pioneering the use of silicon in watchmaking back in 2001, but for its influence on unconventional horology. With a movement that rotates to indicate the time, it might be difficult to tell at first exactly what’s happening…or how the time is actually read.

At visual front and center, the escapement (with its oscillating balance wheel) is held in place by a bridge which itself turns and is shaped to indicate the minutes. Simultaneously, a similarly shaped wheel indicates the hours; there’s no traditional dial to speak of. What you are looking at, rather, are all parts of the movement’s construction.

watch

Courtesy

It’s these surfaces (movement plates) which host the black and white striped pattern that characterizes this version of the Freak X. Ulysse Nardin based this aesthetic on a pattern called “razzle dazzle” used on ships during World War I as camouflage; it was believed that interrupting lines and geometric shapes would result in visual trickery that would make the vessels’ speed, direction and distance harder for enemy craft to estimate. It didn’t prove an enduring solution, but sure made for some crazy-looking ships — and now, a watch as well.

All that history, design and engineering is visible at once in the 43mm titanium Freak X for your wearing pleasure. The watch’s case back reveals the rotor that offers automatic winding.

This might seem like exotic watchmaking and a lot to take in, but the Freak X is in fact relatively affordable among the line of Freak watches introduced over the last two decades. We’re not talking pocket change, but the Ulysse Nardin Freak X Razzle Dazzle offers a lot for $27,300 compared to watches in a similar price range.

This Is the Ultimate Trail-Friendly Picnic Kit

Some of the best days of summer are spent off the grid. Escaping the buzz of work and city life and heading to a secluded lake with no cell service — that’s our idea of paradise. Although, the reality of having a picnic by the water, or hiking to the top of a viewpoint, or getting into the backcountry and off the beaten trail, is not always as idyllic as it sounds — the logistics of transporting everything you need to the site and keeping it all cold and fresh can be challenging to say the least. Well, this summer that concept got a whole lot easier. Hydro Flask just launched the ultimate trail-friendly cooler in the 20L Day Escape Soft Cooler Pack, which offers plenty of features to make your vantage point picnic one to remember. And to complement the 20 L Day Escape, we’ve curated the perfect picnic kit with everything else you need. Whether you want to hang at the lake, have lunch with a view or spend the day at the river, we have everything you need to escape to your favorite spot this summer.

It’s made with lightweight and durable materials like a 600D polyester shell and a self-healing TRU® Zip watertight zipper, which simply slides to re-align if for some reason it separates during your excursion. It also offers 36-hour insulation while keeping the weight down, so you can take your picnic that extra mile to the quieter and more secluded lake. Plus, the welded seams and attached gear loops ensure that you won’t be halfway to the lake leaving a trail of your favorite IPA behind you. BigBlue Cellpowa500 Power Station

Power interruptions are common occurrences in our daily lives. Even the richest of cities get blackouts and power outages. In situations like these, either you rely on the traditional candlesticks or go high-tech with power generators. But when you think about sustainability, you don’t want to go with those powered by gasoline. Instead, you want one that ensures environmental protection just like the BigBlue Cellpowa500 power station.

It boasts high energy efficiency with its use of the durable and high-quality LiFePO4 battery that guarantees you a lifetime of use. The battery retains 80% of its original capacity after 2000 full charge cycles to ensure you have more than enough power supply to last you for more than four years.

Plus, a 537.6Wh pure sine wave output is really efficient when it comes to charging your most-used home appliances and gadgets. Let’s get to the basics then of what makes this power station a great choice for homeowners and even small business operators.

Powerfully Versatile

Whether you’re a home buddy or an outdoor enthusiast, you can benefit from the BigBlue Cellpowa500. It features multiple ports for all your charging needs at home or on the go. It has two 120W USB-C adapters, two 500W AC ports, and one 120W cigarette lighter adapter. This power station also has a couple of fast-charging 36W USB-A ports and two 60W DC5.5mm connectors.

These are really more than enough to support most small to medium-sized appliances and portable gadgets. You can use it on a rice cooker three times, a car refrigerator for ten hours, and ran a CPAP machine for 20 hours. Amazingly, it can even power a fan for 20 hours, run your TV set for nearly 8 hours, and your light for roughly two days. You don’t have to skip work as the BigBlue Cellpowa500 can power your laptop and smartphones for a good 7.5 and 36 times, respectively.

Recharging is also a breeze with the availability of two 60W USB-C PD ports and one 96W AC adapter. You can use all ports simultaneously for a fast reload of 2.8 hours but with the wall socket alone you can get to full charge at a max of 7 hours.

The BigBlue Cellpowa500 is likewise great as an outdoor power backup with its accompanying 120W ETFE Solarpowa solar panel. It features a waterproof output port and gets your power station ready after 6.5 hours of sun exposure. Plus, the added convenience of the LCD screen lets you monitor the charging and recharging process.

Safety Guaranteed

Aside from it being non-toxic, the BigBlue Cellpowa500 also ensures safety during operation. Backed with the company’s rigorous safety design philosophy, it runs on an intelligent battery management system (BMS). This protects it from overheating, over surges, overcharges, and more. The battery does not explode even when exposed to the harshest situations. It will remain stable in freezing or hot temperatures between 0°C to 45°C.

Conveniently Portable

Some power stations can be a hassle to lug around because of their heft and size. Not the BigBlue Cellpowa500 with its compact measurement of just 28.7 x 20.8 x 20.8 cm. It is also a lighter load at merely 7.8 kilograms. Best of all, it comes with much-needed carrying handles for portability. You can carry it via the built-in telescopic handle for one-handed transport. Another would be with the side handles for a better grip.

If you’re in the market for a portable, reliable, and efficient power station for both indoor and outdoor use, then the BigBlue Cellpowa500 is up for grabs for an early-bird price of $299.99. The Solarpowa solar panel is also at a crowdfunding fee of just $189, This is cheaper than any of its kind.

Found an AirTag That Isn’t Yours? Here’s What to Do

Welcome to Product Support, a column devoted to helping you get the most out of the stuff you already use.

Apple’s AirTags aren’t meant to track people. In fact, they’re designed to keep that from happening. If an unwanted AirTag is placed on your person or on your bag and you have an iPhone that’s running iOS 14.5 (or later), you’ll receive a push notification saying that an “AirTag Found Moving With You.” You can then make the AirTag play a sound to help you find it. And no matter what kind of phone you have, an AirTag will start ringing if it’s away from its owner for three days or longer.

If you find an unwanted AirTag that’s been “following” you, the first thing you can do is figure out who the AirTag belongs to. You can do this by holding the AirTag close to your smartphone, iPhone or Android and the AirTag’s NFC chip will direct the smartphone to a web page. If the owner of the AirTag has put it in Lost Mode, you’ll see a message from them and a phone number to contact.

If the AirTag has not been placed in Lost Mode, you’ll only be able to see its serial number (which is also on the back of the AirTag itself) — and you can’t really do anything with that. The best thing you can do is wait until the owner of the AirTag puts it into Lost Mode so you can return it to them.

If you don’t want to be “tracked” in the meantime, you can disable the AirTag by removing its battery.

How to disable an AirTag:

  1. Flip the AirTag upside down so that you’re facing the polished metal side.
  2. Remove the battery case by pressing down on the back of the AirTag and twisting clockwise.
  3. Manually remove the battery.
    1. Once the battery is removed, the previous owner of the AirTag will only be able to see the last reported location of the AirTag. If you want to get the disabled AirTag back up and running so that you can check if it’s been placed in Lost Mode, you can do so by putting the battery back inside it.

The Nissan 400Z Is Probably Coming Soon, Because You Can’t Find a New 370Z Anywhere

It’s safe to say that the Nissan 400Z (which may wind up being called the Nissan Z when it arrives, but that remains to be seen) is one of the cars we can’t wait to drive in 2021. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait much longer, as it seems the new Z-car should arrive very soon. The best evidence for that may be that, as CarsDirect noted, the outgoing 370Z appears to be all sold out.

Good luck finding a new 2020 370Z out there

Nissan had said it was extending 2020 sales for the 370Z into 2021, and would not confirm the car is out of production. But, Nissan recorded just 28 sales of the 370Z during the first quarter this year — and not a single new 370Z turned up on searches of Autotrader and Cars.com. So if you were hoping to score a cheap 370Z sitting around on a dealer lot…it appears that won’t be an option.

(There are, however, still several used 370Z options you can pick up, including very lightly touched 2020 models listed on Carvana and eBay.)

Nissan is already marketing the 400Z (in a way)

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Another sign that the Nissan Z is fast approaching? The Z Proto concept that basically reveals the new features prominently in a new Nissan ad campaign with Brie Larson, one that highlights three-pedal driving and — perhaps a bit ironically for the company that sells the Sentra, Rogue and Kicks — laments the advent of boring cars. The only other Nissan with a manual transmission in the lineup is the Versa, so we suspect the commercial is building hype for the new Z.

What do we know about the Nissan 400Z?

Final details for Nissan’s new 400Z (or Z) have not been released. But we’ve seen leaked photos of the final production version. Nissan’s Z Proto concept featured a twin-turbo V6 engine, likely the engine from the Infiniti Q60, and a six-speed manual transmission. Reports have the new sports coupe packing as much as 444 horsepower and starting for as little as $35,000. Such figures could make the new 400Z a relative bargain compared to the Toyota Supra.

After 35 Years, This Cult-Favorite Herman Miller Chair Is Back

Some say imitation is the highest form of flattery. That has to explain why there are so many knockoffs of Herman Miller’s Wilkes Modular Sofas on discount furniture websites (we’re talking about you, Wayfair). After the line was discontinued in 1986, the only way to get the seating was to get it on the secondhand market — or cave to copping an imitation. But now, Herman Miller has brought the cult-favorite seating back into production.

Affectionately dubbed the “Chiclet” because of its resemblance to the rounded chewing gum of the same name, the seating was popular for its fun, playful look. Ray Wilkes, the designer behind Chiclet, was a self-proclaimed minimalist, who eschewed the idea that minimalism was dictated by straight lines — hence all of the curves of Chiclet. It even looks like it’s all made from a single piece with floating seats.

Wilkes’s process for making the seating was revolutionary at the time, utilizing foam injection in which foam was fed into custom-made molds, which reduced waste and simplified construction — “minimalism,” Wilkes might say.

Chiclet comes in single-seat, loveseat and three-seat sofa options, available in a variety of colors and fabrics.

While the initial run of Chiclet was available in a single-seat up to a six-seat sofa, the reissue will come as a single-seater, loveseat and three-seat sofa. The 2021 edition will retain the original’s breadth of available colors, while adding new colorways and fabrics.

Chiclet is available now at Herman Miller and Design Within Reach, with prices starting at $1,695 for the chair and $2,295 for the sofa.

This Gorgeous New Dress Watch Celebrates a Legend in French Horology

If you’ve been reading Gear Patrol for the past few years, you may recall the news about an interesting French watch brand called Semper & Adhuc. The brand utilizes vintage movements in newly fabricated cases, similar to American brand Vortic. This was (and is) a pretty novel concept in wristwatches — and the brand even went so far as to allow the customer to decide on the crown orientation and dial color in its unusually shaped pieces. (Pretty cool, if you ask us.)

Well, the Semper & Adhuc have made it past their early Kickstarter days and are now a fully fledged French watchmaker, and to prove it, they’ve done something pretty special: brand founder Colin de Tonnac sourced movements from legendary French company LIP for integration into a new watch.

The Instantanée, limited to just 20 pieces, features the caliber R100, a simple (and very small) LIP caliber made between 1958 and 1970 that helped power that brand’s watches during their heyday.

    lip l100 movement

    Semper & Adhuc

The Instantanée itself is beautiful: featuring a round, satin-finished steel case measuring 37mm, it’s reminiscent of vintage pieces, though flipping it over reveals a neat “eyecup” that allows one to glimpse the vintage movement beating within. (What’s even cooler is that the buyer can choose either a right- or left-side crown orientation.)

The dial is wildly cool, and double-signed: it bears both Semper & Adhuc and LIP’s signatures. Grey with white and pink accents and thin stick hands, it’s an exercise in minimalism that wouldn’t be out of place on a piece from the 1960s.

The whole shebang, which is paired with a French leather strap from Bordeaux, can be custom engraved on the case back according to the customer’s wishes. At ~$2,403, the Instantanée certainly isn’t an impulse purchase, but rather one that should be appreciated by fans of French watchmaking, as well as folks who appreciate minimalism…and just plain ol’ good design.
