It is easy to remember all of the essentials for a camping trip or summer adventure: a sleeping bag, a cooler, a water bottle. When topping off your pack, though, you need some survival gear, which we hope you will never have to use but is always a must-have no matter where you’re going. This is where VSSL comes in. The brand makes some of the best, most well-made life-saving tools that we’ve found. Right now, you can pick up any VSSL for 20 percent off, plus 40 percent off its silver flask (an essential in its own right).

We love the camp supplies essentials kit for its immense utility, the standard first aid kit for any accidental hiccups or, for those of you who deem coffee essential, its awesome new hand-crank burr coffee grinder. No matter where you’re headed, you won’t be sorry that you have a VSSL on board.

12 Tougher-Than-Hell Military-Inspired Backpacks

Once it’s declassified, advanced military technology tends to drip down into civilian goods. It’s how we got GPS, the internet and the Jeep. But the relationship goes both ways, with innovative outdoor products and materials influencing what the military uses, too.

The tactical backpack exists on a spectrum that covers outdoor-specific and everyday use. Like the war zone-ready backpacks worn by service members around the globe, today’s military-inspired backpacks are tougher than hell, with organizational features that go far beyond the capabilities of ordinary backpacks.

Heavyweight reinforced nylon, weatherproofing capabilities and earth tone colors are common themes in these crossover bags. They also often feature PALS (Pouch Attachment Ladder System) webbing to be MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) compatible. There’s no better catch-all for all the things you carry throughout your day. And the picks in this dirty dozen are the leaders of the pack.

GoRuck

GoRuck GR1

goruck.com

$325.00

Thirteen years ago, ex-Special Forces soldier Jason McCarthy founded GoRuck with the simple conviction that he could build a backpack unlike any that existed at the time. He wanted one that would be ideal for service members fighting overseas and desk workers heading in for a day at the office. His answer was the GR1 Rucksack, a backpack that has become the standard bearer for military-inspired everyday bags. The GR1 blends commuter-friendly features such as a padded laptop compartment and interior organizing pockets with a tough, take-anything construction. The pack has a plastic backing plate and a false bottom for extra protection and its weatherproof exterior seals up with silent zippers. The GR1 is also equipped with MOLLE-compatible webbing on the face and straps, plus a velcro hit for your favorite patch.

Mystery Ranch

Mystery Ranch 3-Day Assault Pack

mysteryranch.com

$385.00

Bozeman, Montana-based Mystery Ranch is another one of our favorite pack makers, and this offering is a great example of why. Made in the USA, the 3-Day Assault Pack features the brand’s distinctive three-zip design that allows easy access to your gear at a moment’s notice. An internal sleeve accepts a hydration reservoir — or a 17-inch laptop — while PALS webbing on the sides and daisy chains on the straps and back enable you to carry additional gear. There are also side water bottle pocks, plus internal drop-in pockets and zip mesh pockets. Compression straps keep the pack compact when it’s not fully loaded, and the waist belt tucks away when it’s not needed either. Last but not least, the Futura Frame system keeps your back feeling great during long days on the trail.

Best Value Tactical Pack

Red Rock Outdoor Gear

Red Rock Outdoor Gear Large Assault Pack

amazon.com

$58.95

The value proposition here is borderline insane. For less than 60 bucks, Red Rock’s big-time 35-liter pack boasts internal dividers, zippered pockets, padded shoulder straps, adjustable waist and sternum straps and a padded mesh back panel that can also store a hydration reservoir. The pack also features compression straps to condense the size when it’s not fully loaded, plus plenty of external MOLLE-compatible webbing on the back and sides for securing add-on packs or extra gear. Our only major knock? Unlike most of the packs here, this one is made of polyester rather than Cordura nylon.

Best Designed Tactical Pack

Prometheus Design Werx

Prometheus Design Werx S.H.A.D.O.

prometheusdesignwerx.com

$198.00

Suspension, haul, access, durability, organized — these are the guiding design standards that Prometheus Design Werx applied to the S.H.A.D.O. (hence the acronym). The pack leans more toward technical outdoor than tactical, but it’s not without fundamental military-inspired features such as strap-mounted MOLLE-compatible webbing and an oversized Velcro panel for patches. The S.H.A.D.O. is filled with small features that make it a great everyday and adventure pack — a laptop sleeve, hydration compatibility, an external bungee for securing gear — but its most useful component might be a massive, top-to-bottom zip opening into its main compartment.

5.11 RUSH72 Tactical Backpack

$175.00

The “72” in this pack’s name refers to “72-hour capacity.” That number is considered the benchmark for optimal bug-out bags as if you can hang in there that long, help is likely on the way. With its two side pockets and front admin pocket, this pack will easily hold hold three or more days of food, water, shelter and assorted survival tools. The front admin pocket neatly organizes smaller goods, and a sleeve tucked away in the main compartment holds a large hydration bladder. This pack is also almost completely covered with MOLLE-compatible webbing, enabling you to attach anything that doesn’t fit inside onto its exterior.

Best Dry Bag Tactical Pack

BRU Active

BRU Active Premium 40L Dry Bag

amazon.com

$110.99

By itself, the main pack here is a top-notch, 100 percent waterproof dry bag that can protect electronics and other delicate gear. It also boasts heavy-duty zippers, buckles and padded strips for a secure and comfortable carry. But Bru’s bag really excels via its handy PALS webbing and the six included MOLLE bags: three large, two medium and one small flashlight holder). Though these mini-packs are not themselves waterproof, they are perfect for stashing clothes, food, tools and other essentials you need out on the road or trail. Hopping in a kayak? Throw the bags in the main compartment, seal it up and you’re good to go.

With tough 500D Double-rip Cordura Fabric, this pack can also carry up to 8 liters of additional cargo in the top and bottom pockets, with the lower one also featuring MOLLE-compatible webbing. Best Urban Tactical Pack

Nike

Nike RPM Backpack

nike.com

$90.00

You won’t find any mention of MOLLE or PALS in Nike’s RPM Backpack description. Still, a full face of one-inch webbing — along with larger Velcro straps for carrying a skateboard — is the defining feature of this everyday backpack. Of all the bags on this list, it exhibits its military inspiration the least, though Nike was the first to bring MOLLE over to an everyday bag with no intention of actual tactical use. Nevertheless, the functionality is here, and the bag’s overall streamlined design can serve as an entry point into the tactical backpack category. (There are also external pockets, a laptop sleeve and a padded back panel.)

Best Weekend Tactical Pack

Condor

Condor 3 Day Assault Pack

amazon.com

$90.95

Take away its MOLLE webbing, and Condor’s 3 Day Assault Pack looks a lot like the backpack strap-equipped adventure travel duffels that began popping up recently. Those bags are ideal for weekend trips and minimalist travel, and so is the 3 Day Assault. It has a 50-liter main compartment that provides more than enough space for such trips, and a clamshell-style opening and internal compression straps make packing it more akin to loading a rollaboard than a backpacking bag. There’s also a smaller front pocket with loads of organizational sleeves and three more exterior pockets that are ideal for items like water bottles or a spare pair of shoes. The bag is compatible with hydration reservoirs too, and its hipbelt is removable.

Maxpedition

Maxpedition Falcon-II Backpack

amazon.com

$162.99

$146.09 (10% off)

It may be on the smaller side, but the Falcon-II makes this list because it uses the space it does have smartly. You can think of this backpack as having three layers — the main compartment, a smaller middle compartment and a front that’s split into two separate pockets. All of them have internal mesh sleeves for small items, and compression straps allow you to cinch them all down depending on how full a load you’re shouldering. The pack also has a hydration pocket and, of course, lots of MOLLE attachment points.

Eberlestock X2 Pack

$249.00

Yes, the X2 can accommodate a compound bow or Eberlestock’s A1SS or A2SS Side Scabbards for toting shotguns and hunting rifles. But this pack is actually loaded with smart features that extend its value beyond intended use. The Ample FlexChassis can not only cradle loads you strap to the back but flip forward for use as a clever and convenient seat. The oversized compression straps can lash down a heavy load, while quick-access side pockets keep whatever you need close at hand. The X2 also features a back-friendly tubular aluminum Intex frame and plenty of PALS webbing for additional packs or equipment.

Perhaps the most unique pack on this list is this streamlined sling pack from Hazard 4, which is great for navigating confined spaces and darting through crowds. The single padded strap is ambidextrous and ergonomic, so you can wear it comfortably over either shoulder. You can also swing it around to the front to access its fully unzippable main pocket and two smaller outer pockets. The main pocket also features a photo bag-style internal divider and accommodates a hydration reservoir. And of course the MOLLE-compatible sides and back can be loaded with additional gear or add-ons.

Upgrade Your Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator With an Excellent Roof Rack

If you own a Jeep Wrangler or Jeep Gladiator, odds are good you at least think about taking it overlanding. After all, that’s half the fun of owning an off-road-capable pickup truck or SUV: dreaming about all the fun adventures you could take it on, even if, 99.9 percent of the time, you’re not doing anything more exciting than picking up soil at Home Depot or driving to your parents’ house.

But even if you don’t actually have plans to take your off-roader out past the pavement, there are some pieces of kit designed for that sort of adventuring that can be very handy in real life, too. A roof rack, for example, can be an invaluable piece of equipment for any SUV or truck, especially those that — like the midsize Wrangler and Gladiator — lack the crazy-abundant interior volume of an F-150 or Yukon.

So whether you’re planning on embarking upon a cross-country overland journey or simply a bit curious about trying out the rooftop tent lifestyle…it might be worth considering adding a roof rack to your Jeep. And if that’s the case, these models from Front Runner Outfitters could make for an ideal solution for your roof rack wants and needs.

Before you ask: yes, of course, both the Gladiator and Wrangler racks still enable you to remove the pop-out panels at the front of the three-piece Freedom Top that should really come standard with every open-top Jeep, thus delivering that sweet sweet open-air bliss that’s half the reason you bought one of these off-roaders to begin with. (If you really want maximum open air fun, though, the half-rack kit for the Wrangler might be a better fit.)

Oh, and in case you were wondering: yes, Front Runner also makes a rooftop tent that works with its roof racks.

Grovemade Sticky Notes and Notepads Are Elegant Additions to Your Work desk

Grovemade is all about finding beauty even in the simplest of things, like a stack of sticky notes. This quintessential work desk must have does not have to stick to traditional norms in its design, aka just a bunch of clean papers piled up. They can also have embellishments take for instance a metal base like the Grovemade Sticky Notes and Notepads.

This pair is the latest in Grovemade’s Stationery Collection. Instead of cardboard or a thin piece of paper, it boasts a base crafted out of solid machined metal in ceramic-coated aluminum or brass. The heft ensures you can write down notes or reminders easily without having to worry about the stack slowly slipping off the table. You also don’t have to use both hands just to tear off a piece of paper from the stack.

Suffice to say, the solid metal base keeps everything steady. Add premium paper and you have a unique, elegant “tool that actually improves your workflow.” Moreover, the Grovemade Sticky Notes and Notepad are designed to take up minimal space on your work desk. It can fit into narrow spaces thanks to its slim design. It stays right there, available for when you need it.

The good thing is the metal base also works as a paperweight so that’s another efficient way to make use of the stack of papers, in a sense. The Grovemade Sticky Notes and Notepad come in three colorways including Black, Silver, and Brass. All look elegant, modern, and eye-catching no matter which one you choose.

Sneakers 101: The Difference Between Running Shoes, Tennis Shoes & Other Styles

There is a wide range of consumers when it comes to sneakers. Some people may only own a single pair and then there has long been a class of diehard “sneakerheads” who boast impressive collections of the latest, greatest and rarest editions.

Most of us fall somewhere in the middle, but this style of footwear once reserved for athletics has only been booming in popularity in recent years

If you’re looking to add more options to your sneaker collection, but you’re not sure where to start, here is a quick breakdown of the differences between tennis shoes, running shoes, classics and other styles.

Tennis Shoes

As the name implies, tennis shoes were designed for tennis. These days, though, it’s more of a generic name for all sneakers. There are some actual tennis shoes that have become common for everyday wear, like the Adidas Stan Smiths. Of all the shoe silhouettes that exist, few are more well known and respected than these classics.

The Classics

The Stan Smiths are far from alone. They join other purpose-built sneakers that have made the transition from sports equipment to daily fashion. These include the Adidas Superstar, Converse Chuck Taylors, Nike Air Jordan, Saucony Shadow Original and Nike Air Max.

Then, of course, there is are the Nike Air Force 1s. These all-time classics have been so popular in streetwear from the very start. Eventually, they became known as “Uptowns” in New York. This was due to just how many people in Harlem wore them every day. Also, it refers to the direction you had to travel to find stores with the latest releases.

Running Shoes

Some people do use the term “running shoe” for any sneaker. However, modern versions represent a different class and usually feature the most cutting-edge shoe technology that exists. There are the classics, like the Nike Cortez, but today we’re more talking about a space race for the most innovation — something Nike pushed so far that its Vaporfly model was initially banned in sanctioned competition

There are crossovers as well. Kanye West helped popularize the now-iconic Adidas Ultraboosts in the mid-2010s. Thus, the trend was born for making comfortable, performance running shoes into lifestyle wear. Many styles, like the Nike Air VaporMax, can now be seen in casual situations as often as they are on the track.

Other Styles

Some sneakers naturally don’t fit into any of these categories. They may not have been designed specifically for a sport, like walking shoes, or they may have been built for any sport, like cross-trainers. Some companies, like New Balance, ostensibly make running shoes, but they are mostly just for day-to-day comfort, like the company’s 574s.

Then there are fashion sneakers. High-end luxury brands, like Gucci, make their own sneakers that really aren’t for athletics, as do mass-market companies, like Steve Madden. At the end of the day, many of these are unclassifiable in any sports-based sense. Moreover, the designs just keep changing year by year with the trends.

Picking the Best Sneakers for You

We all love sneakers and are drawn to different styles. Ultimately, most of it just comes down to personal preference and how they fit on our feet. Whichever you chose, there is really only one rule: wear them with confidence and always enjoy what you put on your feet.

Liverpool FC Just Launched Its New Kit for the 21/22 Season

One of the most exciting moments in preparation for a new Premier League season is the release of the new team kits. Today, Liverpool FC has released its new Nike home and training jerseys for the 2021-2022 season. It’s based on the famous kit from the 1964 season — the first time Liverpool wore all red. The club’s manager in 1964, Bill Shankly, famously chose the red kit as he felt it would provide them with a psychological edge — in his words, “red is for danger and red is for power.” The kit also features a fossil-colored Nike swoosh logo, LFC crest and updated Standard Chartered sponsor mark, which calls to mind jerseys of the 1990s. It will also be Liverpool’s most sustainable kit yet — each jersey (both on-field and replica) is constructed from 100-percent recycled polyester fabric made from recycled plastic bottles. Both the home and training shirts are available for pre-order, and will be available from the Liverpool FC online store and in-store starting on June 3, 2021.

Save Up to 70% on Great Furniture at Wayfair’s Memorial Day Sale

Looking for even more great savings? Subscribe to our daily newsletter Today’s Best Deals and have them sent straight to your inbox.

Looking to update your home but don’t want to spend a fortune on furnishings? Well, you’re in luck. Right now Wayfair, everyone’s favorite online discount furniture warehouse, is running some deals with discounts of up to 70% off. From patio furniture to tables to home office equipment — everything’s discounted. (Wayfair also owns and operates Joss & Main, AllModern and Birch Lane, many of which are also running sales right now.)

Wayfair’s pricing is dynamic, meaning MSRP is rarely the actual list price of an item, and thus “sale” prices are actually more in line with the prices you’d pay at other retailers. (Many retailers, including Amazon, engage in this practice.) However, this doesn’t mean you aren’t getting a great deal on a design that would otherwise cost you much more money from a different retailer.

Some of the highlights include up to 60 percent off living room seating, up to 60 percent off outdoor furniture, up to 60 percent off kitchen and dining and office furniture that starts at just $80.

The Best Bike Racks of 2021 for Any Vehicle

Whether you’re headed on a weekend trip, to the local trail system for a lunch ride or the top of your favorite descent, a good bike rack is crucial. It’s no fun to have to fold down your back seat to wrestle your bike inside, twisting the handlebars and taking off the front wheel in the process. Just returned from a particularly muddy ride? Hope you brought a tarp.

Enter the humble yet handy bike rack, your headache-sparing, space-saving alternative. It’ll free up your car’s interior for the rest of your gear, your dog, or a riding partner, depending on the capacity of your vehicle and your rack.

There are many options out there, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. But relax. The bike racks that follow are the best available right now.

Best Overall Bike Rack

Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack

backcountry.com

$549.00

This handy rack from Kuat tops the list thanks to a potent combination of features. Made of aluminum, it weighs in at a relatively light 32 pounds, yet it can support two bikes up to 40 pounds each (with wheelbases as big as 47 inches and tires as wide as 3 inches), with a generous 14 inches of space between them. A convenient foot-actuated pivot lever lets you lower the rack to make loading up a snap, while no-tool assembly, a folding tire cradle and adjustable ratchet arm add to the ease of use. Last but not least, an external cable with a semi-integrated lock provides peace of mind should you need to step away before or after hitting the roads and trails.

Best Upgrade Bike Rack

Courtesy

Thule T2 Pro XTR 2-Bike Hitch Rack

rei.com

$649.95

Thule’s premium tray-style, hitch-mount bike rack is pricey but offers best-in-class features in a user-friendly build. Front wheel ratcheting arms and rear wheel straps secure bikes up to 60 pounds (with up to 29-inch wheels and 5-inch tires) without any frame contact. No tools are required to install and there’s an integrated cable lock. Even better, a double-jointed mechanism lets you tilt the load away from your car to access the trunk. The big difference between this rack and its predecessor is integrated wheels that make it easier to move the 52-pound unit around. The 1.25-inch version of that model, the XT, is 20 percent off ($495.96) on Backcountry right now.

Best Value Bike Rack

Saris Bones 2-Bike Rack

backcountry.com

$169.99

With an innovative design and unique looks, this wallet-friendly Saris rack is ideal for transporting lighter weight bikes. The arc style form factor fits most cars, including many with spoilers, fitting securely with spring buckle straps, hooks and ratcheting straps. Its rust-proof, 100 percent recycled plastic construction can accommodate two bikes up to 35 pounds each. That capacity is lower than the Kuat and Thule racks, but so is the weight of the unit, by a lot: it comes in at just 9 pounds.

Best Roof Rack

Courtesy

Yakima HighRoad Upright Bike Mount

avantlink.com

$249.00

This affordable rack packs many of the same features as some of the others in a roof rack form. You can install it without tool and secure your bike with integrated locks. The contact-free design goes easy on carbon frames, with the TorqueRight knob adjusting to fit different sized bikes, with wheels up to 29 inches and tire widths up to 3.25 inches. Worth noting: You can only transport one bike per unit, and you do need an existing roof rack to attach it, but on the upside, you’ll always have access to your trunk.

Best Bike Rack for Rear Cargo Access

Courtesy

RockyMounts BackStage Swing Away Platform Rack

rackattack.com

$699.95

Yes, this Rocky Mountain option is pricey — and at 75 pounds, heavy. But the Backstage was the first platform rack featuring an arm that swings completely away from your vehicle to allow total rear access — and it’s still the best. The rack can handle bikes up to 60 pounds each, with wheels up to 29 inches, holding them securely with reliable ratcheting arms. There are a couple limitations, in that it’s currently only available for 2-inch hitches, and the included cable lock is not integrated into the rack. But if easily getting into the back of your rig is a priority, nothing beats the convenience here.

Best Portable Bike Rack

Courtesy

Kupper Mounts Suction Cup Bike Rack System

amazon.com

$199.99

Kupper’s approach has to be the only reliable bike rack you can throw in a carry-on bag. The clever suction cups attach to the roof or rear of your car, van or SUV in minutes, accommodating dropouts, thru-axle adapters, mountain and road bikes up to 45 pounds. While you can only haul one bike per 8.62-pound set, you can employ as many sets as you can find space for on your vehicle. To make traveling even easier, Kupper Mounts come complete with a convenient carrying case.

Best Bike Rack for Pickup Trucks

Courtesy

Inno Velo Gripper Truck Bike Rack

backcountry.com

$99.95

Inno’s system is super affordable, simple and user-friendly. The clamps secure your bike to the side of the truck bed, which not only leaves plenty of room to store other gear but also keeps the bike out of your line of sight. No tools are required to install, you don’t have to remove the front wheel, and the clamps are small enough to detach and stash when not in use. One thing you don’t get with this set-up is any kind of locking mechanism, though you can probably figure out a way to lock the bike directly to the truck.

New Balance’s Commitment to the Color Gray

Nowadays, in the era of off-kilter collaborations and seemingly intentionally gaudy designer goods, the colors on a pair of sneakers appear chosen as to intentionally clash — well, at least to some eyes. In the same way moods can be assigned hues — calm and blue, anger and red, happiness and yellow — the overall aesthetic of a particular shoe elicits a response, too, and companies are carefully tweaking theirs to encourage transactions, or, at the very least, heighten the hype around a release. Collaborations between Nike and Sacai utilize nearly a dozen colors. Others rely on one tone but to a nauseating degree. For New Balance, however, gray — a hue that is historically drab — acts as a baseline and a tool for adding texture and interest.

“Between 70 percent to 90 percent of subconscious judgment on a product is made in a few seconds on color alone,” Jenny Ross, New Balance’s head of concept design and strategy for Lifestyle Sneakers, tells The New York Times. For Ross, the grays on a New Balance running shoe reflect splotchy concrete, the buzz of urban metropolises and yet a semblance of simplicity, too.

“Doing gray right is something we take a lot of pride in. Every gray on our color ring has a character and personality: Castle Rock is warm; Steel is a blue tone. With legacy models, we make sure our tanneries never stray. They replicate with precision,” she tells the NYT‘s Mark O’Flaherty.

While the sneaker industry at large indulges in the chaos of color, New Balance, in many of their collections, remains true to their most beloved hue. In fact, one of their newest shoes, the Un-N-Ding, a 574 without the big “N” logo, features more than five shades of gray suede. It was released in celebration of Grey Day, the company’s nod to “the iconic greys embedded in New Balance’s brand DNA.”

Change the Way You Run with Future Fitness

  • Brand: Future Fitness
  • Price: $49 for the first month, $149/month after that
  • From: future.co

Trying to become a faster, more consistent runner sounds easy — just run faster for longer right? But it’s significantly more complicated than that. We all tend to start strong out of the gate but typically lose steam before we make real, tangible progress. So we tested the Future Fitness app to see what its roster of elite coaches (a majority of whom have competed at the collegiate, professional or Olympic levels or have trained those who have) and sleek app experience could do for our running. Future Fitness coaches create customized workout plans tailored to your goals and lifestyle. We spent the week with Jelani Clyburn, former strength and conditioning coach at Maryland and Delaware State, to get a feel for all of its features and hit the ground running (quite literally) with six days of workouts tailored to exactly what we wanted.

    future

    Gear Patrol Studios

    What We Like

After a thorough questionnaire about what your goals are and where your fitness level is, you will be matched with one of Future’s elite coaches. Our tester, who is focused on becoming a faster runner, matched with Jelani Clyburn, a former strength and conditioning coach at Maryland and Delaware State. Beyond an impressive collegiate resume, Clyburn also has an M.S. in physiology, a B.S. in kinesiology and exercise science and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist — that’s in addition to a background in track and field. Clyburn’s approach to constructing exercise programs is combining scientifically proven principles with input from each of his clients. Needless to say, we were excited to see what he put together for someone with a passion and interest in running, given his focus areas.

After matching, the process is pretty simple. Your coach schedules a Facetime meeting with you, letting you go into more depth on your goals, lifestyle and any injuries you might be working with. On Sunday afternoons, your workouts for the week are loaded onto the app, letting you take a look at what’s to come. For our tester, this consisted of a short run, lower body push, yoga flow, long run, upper body push, speed work and recovery day.

    future

    Gear Patrol Studios

The Future app syncs with an Apple Watch (one is included in your welcome kit), allowing your metrics to be tracked and shared with your coach. The Watch also switches its workout automatically based on what’s next, so you don’t need to start a new workout when you move from stretching, to calisthenics, to your run.

The landing page in the app shows your workout with a video demonstrating proper technique, along with a timer and a preview of what’s next. This feature allows you to focus on form and pushing through your current reps without having to worry about what to do next. You can also choose a playlist curated by Future to play during your sweat session, and the app easily connects to your TV if you prefer a larger picture.

The flexibility of Future sets it apart from its competition, as does the ability to message your coach whenever you need to. Whether you had a long night and are feeling it the next day, or a work deadline was put on your schedule, you can reach out to your coach and they will reconfigure your workouts for the week. Our tester had a morning meeting put on the calendar the day of a long run, but after reaching out to Clyburn, he swapped workouts to accommodate.

Before getting experience with the app, our tester was concerned about being bombarded with messages and notifications from the app. But Future provides a hands-on feel without being overbearing. Your coach sends you daily texts asking how the workout went and gives you feedback on your progress. You feel the guidance and motivation you need without getting frustrated. Plus, who doesn’t need a Monday morning motivation text to wake up to? Your coach pre-records messages on the app that you will hear on certain workouts. Just when our tester was feeling sluggish three miles into a run, Jelani’s voice would chime in with a bit of motivation and a reminder to check form and focus on breathing.

    future

    Gear Patrol Studios

    Who It’s For

With the diverse backgrounds and specialties of the coaches, Future truly offers something for everyone — especially if you’re looking for a hands-on, tailored, workout plan without having to pay personal gym prices. Whether you are constantly traveling or fitting in workouts around your kid’s schedules, this app lets you stick to your fitness routine no matter where you are and no matter how much time you have.

Future is also perfect for those who have specific fitness goals they want to meet, but maybe don’t know where to start. Whether you want to become a better runner, build up your strength or lean out, Future has you covered.

    Verdict

To describe Future in one word would be difficult, but seamless comes to mind. From navigating the app, to the custom workouts and constant coach communication, Future makes everything easy — well, everything except the actual workout.

With an extremely friendly user interface and daily workouts customized to your schedule, it’s easy to see why Future is garnering so much attention.

TiTan Talon Tool Co. Clavis Plex Is More Than Just A Key Clip

You can never run out of reasons for wanting to pile up on your collection of keychain multi-tools. After all, you just never know when you might need to use them on both small home and outdoor fixes. The TiTan Talon Tool Co. Clavis Plex Key Clip, for instance, is one of those that you don’t want to miss out on simply because of its useful features.

This is more than just a key clip as it holds other useful tools for outdoor adventures, backyard BBQ, and more. It has a built-in bottle opener that also doubles as a cap lifter. Then there’s the 1/4″ hex bit driver storage for prying screws loose. It can also hold most standard 1″ hex shank bits. The bits stay secure regardless of your movements so you don’t have to worry about them skittering across the floor.

When it comes to your keys, the TiTan Talon Tool Co. Clavis Plex is an efficient key organizer as it comes with three metal loops and O-rings to hold your keys. The links keep keys deep into the pocket like a large carabiner and prevent them from being dislodged. Yet they allow keys to pivot, move easily with your body, and quickly detach when needed.

Best of all, the TiTan Talon Tool Co. Clavis Plex features an ergonomic design and build. It is lightweight at just 16 grams because it is made with Grade 5 6Al-4V titanium complemented with a stonewashed finish. Titanium is stronger than steel and not to mention it is rust-proof, non-magnetic, and hypoallergenic.

Nobody Knows Anything About This Mystery Bourbon, Except That It’s Less than $15 and Absolutely Rules

Welcome to Shelf Sleepers, our semi-regular guide to the best booze nobody is buying. This time: Heaven Hill 6-Year-Old Green Label, a bottle whiskey conspiracy theorists believe is only made for in-the-know Kentuckians.

A little over an hour into Fred Minnick’s sub-$15 bourbon taste-off, Minnick, prolific bourbon reviewer, personality, host and author, had narrowed a field of dozen bottom-shelf bourbons to just one.

“Let me make sure I didn’t fuck this up on the blind tasting. You never know,” Minnick said, checking the sticker on the bottom of a Glencairn glass. He pulled the sticker off and flashed it in front of the camera. “Green.”

Out of a field that included Buffalo Trace Distillery’s Benchmark and Ancient Age bourbons, Very Old Barton, Old Charter and Heaven Hill’s own Evan William’s Black Label, Minnick landed on Heaven Hill 6-Year-Old Green Label. What the hell is that?

Green Label is from Heaven Hill Distillery, makers of Evan William’s, Elijah Craig, Old Fitzgerald, Larceny, Henry McKenna and other brand whiskeys. It’s a 6-year-old, 90 proof, roughly $12 product, making it perhaps the best value — from an age-price perspective, at least — you can buy. As far as I (and Minnick) can tell, the bottle receives zero marketing dollars and, if you check Heaven Hill’s own website, may as well not exist (they’ve even reserved a place for another venerable bottom-shelf hero, Mellow Corn, but not Green Label).

According to Minnick, it’s only available in Kentucky, Heaven Hill’s homestate. He says the owners of the distillery, the Shapira family, always keep a bottle of it in their homes.

“I’ve always wondered why is it that they always have a 6-year age statement on a Kentucky-only product at 90 proof, and I think I know why — that’s what they buy,” he said.

Heaven Hill Distillery aren’t strangers to absurd value whiskey. Before its 2019 refresh, Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond — called White Label at the time — was another shelf sleeper. The Bottled-in-Bond whiskey was another sub-$15 juggernaut, available only in Kentucky (it earned the nickname “Gift to Kentucky” because of the absurdly low price).

Elsewhere on the internet, Green Label is heaped praise on.

“The next time I find my self in Kentucky I will be buying a case if they don’t discontinue this one too,” writes a review on Bourbon for the Masses. “At just $12.99 a bottle, a case of Heaven Hill Green Label will be joining me on the ride home to Alabama. It is better tasting and more enjoyable that other bourbons I have had a several times the cost,” Reddit user LesterMaddox wrote in a review earlier this year. Someone by the name of Bill (just Bill) on the website Modern Thirst wrote that there is no bourbon better at the price point.

As mentioned, finding a bottle (or case) will likely entail a trip to bourbon’s home turf. There are reports of bottles appearing in other markets (online booze retailer Casker’s lists nearly two dozen states), but as far as we know the only legal distribution occurs in Kentucky (Minnick says bottles of it occasionally creep outside the state through less-than-legal means). Hunt it down before it meets the same fate as its Bottled-in-Bond predecessor.
